Hi all...my gf and I both have SIIIs, mine running CM10 and hers stock. Is there anyway to get this working between the two? When I try to send to her I get an error saying large files aren't allowed to her device.
Thanks

No one uses samsungs s-beam propitiatory code while one uses standard android code. One uses s-beam which is a combination of wifi-drect and nfc. Android does them separately I believe. She'd need to be running Jellybean for it to work.
You can send small things like contacts, but not large things like pictures or videos.

Can someone please advise how to make my pics I receive via text to not run as a 5 second video? I'm not sure what I did but I'm certain it didn't do this initially.

Are you using stock messaging app or something else? Which ROM?
my mms have been doing this since android 1.1
yeah.
This is how the GSM network sends Android MMS'. If you find a friend with a Sprint or Verizon CDMA Android device, you'll see it just sends as a photo. Crazy, huh?
Actually I believe this is how Samsung devices handle it. Although I can speak for cdma devices, I know my atrix and nexus one didn't do this. Its just houw the stock app works. If you use a different app like go SMS the problem is gone.
I like the landscape view in the stock app which is why I didn't make the switch myself.

Yes I'm using the stock ROM and the original mms app. I guess perhaps it did this since day one but I'm realizing it now lol. Appreciate your responses and I may try a different mms app.

i see its a common problem with AOSP that group texting dosen't work.
will this work on the s3?

This would be an epic milestone If this was baked into CM. I am so tired of using the Verizon version of SMS due to the fact it is so fugly!!! I've tried all of the third party SMS apps available and Verizon's works almost perfectly but it really is ugly.
I am surprised Google hasn't addressed this short coming with its own SMS app.
Please keep this alive!!!

I am a big fan of Groupme. You can use the app, have messages text to you, or use the web client. The only bad thing is you kind of have to get everyone you want to message on board.

Best Group Pose
Thank You for this!
I'm using the November 20 Jelly Bean leak and by removing the Samsung.APK and the ODEX associated with it from /system/app and installing these files you've provided in the original OP, as well as installing the "Group Pose" APK that member tkruijer listed in another thread I can say the group pose finally works for me!
The trick to best group pose is to install this APK as well before opening the new camera...
Well...seems I can't post outside links because I don't have enough posts yet, but the GroupPose.APK is here:
hxxp://www14.zippyshare.com/v/43629474/file.html
Pretty sure you need a TouchWiz JB ROM for those to work.
Just a heads up, I did a DiffMerge on the two zips listed in this thread. Even though they have different post dates in Dropbox, everything else seems the same.
Also, one bug I've found is you can't set wallpaper with the Note 2 gallery.
Thanks!

For best group pose you need to install the best group pose apk then it works. Here's the link.

Now that best group pose works, is there an apk for share shot maybe? Or is it more in depth than that? If that was working, the only other glitch would be setting wallpaper in the gallery.

I downloaded the zip file from the link and wiped cache then flashed this... I see no change what so ever. I am running Eclipse 1.2 rom which is using 4.1.1. Do the galleries and camera app from the note 2 look just like the ones from the S3?
Installed the camera.apk....but not seeing any of the listed extra options...
I have a GS3 and my wife has a HOX. Every time I try to share a picture via the beam, it fails and my phone says that the receiving device does not support transfer of large files. I am able to share chrome bookmarks, though. I'm running 4.1.2 and she's running stock ICS. Thoughts on how to fix this?

I've never got NFC to work on this thing stock or rooted
It has the feature. And I know it can transfer SOME data.

Ive heard about s3 and one NFC not liking each to well
Large file transfer isn't supported on ICS. I tried to transfer a pic from my Nexus 4 to my friend's One X (ICS) and later to my other friend's GSII. You can only do links on ICS (unless they have Touchwiz Nature UX) and other small files. That will be updated come JB. It does work from my Nexus 4 to another Nexus 4 however. Company has nothing to do with it.

An official release? For AT&T.. nobody knows, and quite frankly I am done with AT&T.
/endrant
Telstra will be releasing theirs around 24th of December http://crowdsupport.telstra.com.au/t5/Device-Updates/Handset-updates-14-December/td-p/107834
So you could root and SuperCID her phone and flash the Telstra RUU, or wait for a dev to release a JB Sense version, or wait for AT&T (who knows when that will happen)
The reason Sammy devices can beam anything bigger than an URL is because of their own in-house app, S Beam. Basically uses NFC to create a BT connection between the two devices. This allows two Sammy devices to send larger files. We can achieve this as well, I've used "Send!" from the Play Store with great success. Use it with my gf's HOX as well to beam over pictures, videos and music files. This app basically does what S Beam does, so you'll need the app on both phones.
I'm not an Android expert so I may not understand this, but I'm not running the stock Rom for my GS3. I'm on cm10. Does the S-beam really matter?

S-beam/Android beam creates a WiFi direct connection for larger files, and Bluetooth for smaller files I would assume.
I've never gotten it to work on our device, so I would assume its a ROM/kernel issue. Wifi direct is not that popular so it hasn't been worked on

I stand corrected, thank you. S Beam does use WiDi as well. S Beam, though, is based on Android Beam, just goes the one step further in creating a WiDi/BT connection for larger files. From what I've read, Android Beam is only useful for sending very small (i'm talking kilobytes) files/URLs.

S Beam is a Samsung exclusive app. I haven't seen it be ported to any other ROM that's not based on a TouchWiz ROM.

Not sure what's changed in the tree or defconf.
"You should be getting an OTA update soon — if you’re lucky — that will bring your Galaxy S3 to Android 4.1.2. The VRBMB1 build is about 150MB in file size, and for those who are wondering, here’s the full change log:
Keyboard Predictive Text has been improved
Users can take picture while on a call
Manual refresh button has been added to lock screen ticker
E-mail syncing has been improved
Enhanced Bluetooth performance
VZ Navigator and Amazon added to stub applications"
-Android Authority
Seems that is all that was added for now. I was hoping that premium suite would be rolled out sooner. Oh well, the joy of being rooted, and being able to install things like pop up browser anyway.

I have a buddy that uses this option all the time now that he has it. He makes vinyl signs and oftentimes while out working, speaking to a customer on the phone, it's helpful to be able to take a picture without having to hang up. Sure, not everyone will utilize this feature, but like a dozen other features on your phone, it's great to have them regardless of whether you'll actually use them or not.
