[Q] native email widget - not magazine ux - Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Got the 12.2 yesterday and quickly decide Touchwiz had to go. I decide to use an alternate launcher and setup email and calendar widgets. Lo and behold...there is no native email widget anymore! What the heck is Samsung thinking? It doesn't exist in Touchwiz or any other launcher I've tried.
I really like the email client tweaks but not tw nor magazine ux. I can't believe Sammy removed the native widget and force you to use mag-ux to see email list on home screen. Root might help because emailwidget supposedly works with root but i haven't tried it yet. I'm trying to hold off rooting until we have some more root/rom options.
Any ideas or alternatives?

Personally I like keeping my email clients separate.
My ISP uses POP, for which I currently use Aqua.
I use stock Gmail app for Gmail.
For my exchange email at work I use Touchdown HD.

What other solutions and/or recommendations are there for native email and calendar widgets?? I am using Nova Launcher, so no Mag UX for me, and therefore no widgets for email and calendar.

I use EventFlow for my agenda and calendar.
Not sure about widgets for stock email application but perhaps Android Pro Widget ?

I'm using K-9, and really pleased with it. In fact, went back and installed it on my Note 2 and Xoom (which doesn't see much use anymore.)

This is indeed the worst surprise on this tablet. I had the habit to use the great email widget on my other Sansung tablets and phones and now I discover it is not available on the Note Pro.

I've switched to Aqua mail on the advice of someone in another thread and its widgets are perfect for me. Check it out.

Just got my 12.2 today and try to configure it like my Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1... couldn't find the eMail (multi-account) widget...
I'm very disappointed that they remove this. I like to have it in my Homepage with my Google Calendar and Tasks manager (GTask).
Come on Sammy, put it back !

Calendar widget/app that combines Google and Corporate Calendars?

As much as I dislike the Sense UI, there are several features of the Desire's ROM that I absolutely love. One of them being that the Calendar widget is full screen and displays combined events from both the Coporate (work) and Google (personal) calendars. This is extremely helpful for me. Is there any app on the market, or that one of you developers might be able to develop? Also, I love the pinch-zoom home screen switching. This would be amazing. Any thoughts? Thanks.

The option to select corporate calendar is there - along with all the Google calendars. Under settings, /select calendars to show/...

Find a Droid dump, download, and install MotoCAL.apk. Search for it. this will allow you to use your corporate calendar. Pure Calendar Widget aggregates them both on the home screen. Another good one is Pure Agenda Widget.
I'd go crazy with out them.

Thanks. Did that, but MotoCal just opens to a white screen and just sits there hanging. Any other suggestions?

You need to do some research for yourself.
Pull corpcal.apk from enomther's official rom. push it to /system/app. use the pure grid widget.
this is your solution. it's been confirmed to be working by other members.

[REQUEST] Samsung Galaxy S Widget for Nexus One

I was wondering if it would be possible to port the widgets from the Samsung Galaxy S over to the Nexus One?
If there is anyone that would be able to do this please let me know (wltnkyl at gmail), I would be very interested in using these widgets on my Nexus One.
**as .apk please since my Nexus is not rooted and would prefer not to root at this time**
Thank you.
same wishes here
most likely it's a no. 99% of the time nothing can be ported from a custom UI.
or not
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=709763
mm..i don't know..for me this is possible..
The launcher is ported fine..
certain, the social's widget no...because social hub is integrated in the rom, but watch and weather yes..
Was hoping to be able to use the news and weather one as it is the best I've seen. Would also like to use the contacts one, not sure about that one though as it might be tied into the custom contacts app.
If someone can get the news and weather to the Nexus One, as well as any others I would be very appreciative.
-also, downloaded and trying the Touchwiz launcher linked above, thanks for that. Just need widgets now!
edit: Installed the Touchwiz launcher ported by 'rolle3k' (great job), and it is working perfectly, no bugs that I have found yet. I recommend this to everyone out there that likes the look of the Touchwiz Android Launcher...

Alternative to Pure messenger widget??

is there a widget like pure messenger that can bring txt, emails, facebook, and twitter messages to a widget? or is there something that comes close?
Get launcher pro plus, it comes with widgets and has what you're looking for.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Launcher pro doesn't have a widget Like that. It's friends widget only handed twitter and fb. And it wont notify you of fb comments either. I use LP and pure messenger. If LP friends widget would display comments I would use it. But until then pure messenger is all we have.
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
Handcent comes to mind and is very nice. It is also free!
i really just want a widget that brings txt, email, and gmail together...would be nice to have face book and twitter messages (not updates) in there too
Looking for a pure messenger alternative too, every time I add it (scrollable), it's blank
Executive Assistant is an alternative but does not support exchange yet

And did you enable the scrollable mode ???
Scrollable mode works fine. I use it everyday since Pure messenger support it.
I use pure and have zero probs. Did you download K9 for pure? That allows you to use pop and gmail for emails. Is it that ur tired of pure and want something else?

Turns out it's a problem with LP+ & Zeam, had the same problem with the new Touiteur widget, ADW works fine...
I look for an other Messenger Widget, too, that can show me SMS, Emails and Calls in one widget. I Used Pure Messenger for a while. But since an update of K9 for pure they didn't work together. It always comes a Message that i need the Version 3.390-109 of K9. But i have the new one installed.

Any Calendar APP with Hi-res support?

I used to use "Jorte" on my Samsung i9000 phone which work pretty good.
But when I use it on transformer. I found it didn't use the advantage of the
Hi-res. Still the same layout but streched to full screen.
Unlike the tablet version of evernote and catch, which is re-layout properly.
Is there any calendar APP with tablet version support? You can refer to iPad's
calendar and you will know what I mean.

+1 here, this is something I'm looking for also
Just out of curiosity, what does the built-in calendar app not do that you want it to?

I'm not sure about the OP, but the calendar app widget built-in to HC only shows a week out. Jorte gives a few weeks, potentially a month, in a handy little widget. But on tablets it is too small to use.
I use touch calendar. The resolution doesn't get stretched as Jorte
the calendar from Samsung tab seems nice. Any chance to extract it?
Check the screenshot.

Try out Pocket Informant:

+1 wizz widgets and the stock calendar work quite well for me.
Wizz seems like it will be my choice too, at least for now. I wish Jorte would update or Cozi would support google calendars.

I use pure grid calendar. no stretch cause it has tablet support
I might check it out, looks good. I wish there were a ad-supported version, if only just to check it out.
Not a fan how the agenda and calendar widgets are charged for separately.
Try Business Calendar. It's fantastic and offers great widgets too!
I've tried both pocket informant and jorte.. must say Business Calendar is much better, even than both combined
/offtopic : What i dislike is the fact that my backspace-key seems to delete 2 characters in stead of one. (dn't notice earlier, so I guess it's only on this forum?? That, plus I keep touching the touchpad when I type on the keyboard
+1 pure grid calendar widget. I use it in week mode and month view mode in two diferents widgets. It works great for me.

What keyboard are you using? If using an aftermarket keyboard, sometimes mine (Tablet Keyboard on TF and Swiftkey on phone) will weird out a bit, so I have to restart.
I'm pretty content with Tablet Keyboard or whatever it's called.
It has the prediction of Swiftkey that I love so dearly, but I won't buy SK out of spite. No need to charge a second time simply for a port, but I digress. Tablet Keyboard is free =P

your input is appreciated on calendar widgets for Google Calendar

Hi guys, I have searched around, but I have not found any conclusive answers, so I would appreciate your suggestions.
I am simply looking for a calendar widget that would essentially rest on Google Calendar BUT display things better or "more properly" that Google Calendar's own homescreen widgets...
So far I have found "Simple Calendar Widget" as an option but do people have any other recommendations? And just to re-iterate, I want something that is light does not take ram/use a lot of battery, is stable...and clean/not overly complicated to display my events from google calendar,
thank you and cheers.
I use Pure grid calendar. It can be complicated to set up but simple and theme able once set up.
Though I think its paid.,
Please dont ask questions in general
The one I use is simply called Calendar Widget. It's nice because it combines both a monthly view and an agenda view, and I really like the way it looks on my home screen.

+1 for Pure Grid Calendar, I have been using this widget for years and never had a problem! There's also many skins to choose from so you can get the look you want
My vote is for Jorte

+1 for Pure Grid
It costs a few bucks, but is well worth it. Updated regularly and very customizable once you learn the ropes.
I use this agenda widget for all my jobs booked in - very useful for me

You dont have problems with jorte? I bought pure grid because jorte kept disappearing and I had to keep setting it up.
Long time ago. I suppose they fixed that

I'm using Simple Calendar Widget a few years now. It's a nice (scrollable) calendar widget with a lot of customization possibilities.

Personally never had a problem with Jorte, maybe I'm just lucky.
Synced FB birthdays, F1 race calendar and Arsenal fixtures all to my Google calendar, everything displays just fine. massive range or widgets (I prefer an entire homescreen to display a month calendar)
On the rare occasion I setup a manual calendar appointment, sync and reminders work ok too.
(For anybody who may have followed the play store link, just noticed the childish screenshots they use. Hope that doesn't put people off! The built in theme engine is extremely versatile, perfectly capable of looking professional as well...)
Try UpNext, used it for some days now and I like it very much.

One of the nicest looking I've seen so far....
Event Flow Calendar Widget
Thank you everyone, I will try these and let you guys know which one I personally like best. Again I am looking for something that is not so much a full fledged calendar, like Jorte is, but a widget like app that links to giggle calendar itself. And I also did read about Jorte having problems.
I really wish that PureGrid had a free trial as well. And from reviews it seems that simple calendar widget had some bugs, at least in nexus 5, but I will try all these and post results. Thanks everyone.

Thank you everyone for their input, I just wanted to say that I chose "Event Flow Widget", because it is the most beauitful I think in general and goes well the most with the Nexus 5/Kitkat theme. Of course there is a catch to their app: If you want to customize it more you have to pay $.99.
As for PureGrid Calendar - I never got to try it because it is not free, nor is there a free demo one, so it must be great given the positive feedback it has, but I can't say anything about as I was unable to try it.
Calender Widget: Month+Agenda, was very good, and the good thing is that it displays your agenda and calendar in one widget, something I do not necessarily need, but for those who do it is an excellent choice. However, I Believe that this app is also not free and I am not sure how much it costs after its 7-day trial.
Jorte: I tried Jorte and have no major complaints other than that they can update it a bit to match with the times, it should have resizable widgets. In any case I did not need a full-fledged calendar, I just needed a calendar widget, so Jorte was not really for my needs.
Calendar Widget by Milan Sillik was also impressive and nice, again, I chose Event Flow because it just looks more slick, but I believe Calendar Widget may have more options packed in both for calendar purposes and widget customization, so its a must-try. However, again, if you want to unlock all its options such as transparency settings you have to buy the Pro.
Simple Calendar Widget was ok...but I did not like it as much as the Event Flow Widget or the Calendar Widget by Milan Sillik.
UpNext Alpha: I did not try it due to a malware comment on the reviews....so...got nothing to say on this.
So yes overall winner for me is Event Flow Widget, and I also really liked Calendar Widget by Milan Sillik.
Thank you everyone
persianrisk: thanks for compliment of my app
My favorite calendar widget is of course mine - Calendar Agenda Widget - it's free, simple, beautiful and has plenty of customization options (some of them are paid). On of it's most useful features is custom reminder functionality - you can set alarm on any event, and it will ring like phone call or alarm clock at morning I think it's pretty unique on whole market.
Another good widget is my competitor Event flow CW I must admit that it looks good - maybe it's because it looks quite similar to mine widget, (looks like author was inspired by mine app - however this is my personal opinion which can be far away from true).
