your input is appreciated on calendar widgets for Google Calendar - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, I have searched around, but I have not found any conclusive answers, so I would appreciate your suggestions.
I am simply looking for a calendar widget that would essentially rest on Google Calendar BUT display things better or "more properly" that Google Calendar's own homescreen widgets...
So far I have found "Simple Calendar Widget" as an option but do people have any other recommendations? And just to re-iterate, I want something that is light does not take ram/use a lot of battery, is stable...and clean/not overly complicated to display my events from google calendar,
thank you and cheers.

I use Pure grid calendar. It can be complicated to set up but simple and theme able once set up.
Though I think its paid.,
Please dont ask questions in general

The one I use is simply called Calendar Widget. It's nice because it combines both a monthly view and an agenda view, and I really like the way it looks on my home screen.

+1 for Pure Grid Calendar, I have been using this widget for years and never had a problem! There's also many skins to choose from so you can get the look you want

My vote is for Jorte

+1 for Pure Grid
It costs a few bucks, but is well worth it. Updated regularly and very customizable once you learn the ropes.

I use this agenda widget for all my jobs booked in - very useful for me

Looks like this (it is themeable to a degree too)

You dont have problems with jorte? I bought pure grid because jorte kept disappearing and I had to keep setting it up.
Long time ago. I suppose they fixed that

I'm using Simple Calendar Widget a few years now. It's a nice (scrollable) calendar widget with a lot of customization possibilities.

Personally never had a problem with Jorte, maybe I'm just lucky.
Synced FB birthdays, F1 race calendar and Arsenal fixtures all to my Google calendar, everything displays just fine. massive range or widgets (I prefer an entire homescreen to display a month calendar)
On the rare occasion I setup a manual calendar appointment, sync and reminders work ok too.
(For anybody who may have followed the play store link, just noticed the childish screenshots they use. Hope that doesn't put people off! The built in theme engine is extremely versatile, perfectly capable of looking professional as well...)

Try UpNext, used it for some days now and I like it very much.

One of the nicest looking I've seen so far....
Event Flow Calendar Widget

Thank you everyone, I will try these and let you guys know which one I personally like best. Again I am looking for something that is not so much a full fledged calendar, like Jorte is, but a widget like app that links to giggle calendar itself. And I also did read about Jorte having problems.
I really wish that PureGrid had a free trial as well. And from reviews it seems that simple calendar widget had some bugs, at least in nexus 5, but I will try all these and post results. Thanks everyone.

Thank you everyone for their input, I just wanted to say that I chose "Event Flow Widget", because it is the most beauitful I think in general and goes well the most with the Nexus 5/Kitkat theme. Of course there is a catch to their app: If you want to customize it more you have to pay $.99.
As for PureGrid Calendar - I never got to try it because it is not free, nor is there a free demo one, so it must be great given the positive feedback it has, but I can't say anything about as I was unable to try it.
Calender Widget: Month+Agenda, was very good, and the good thing is that it displays your agenda and calendar in one widget, something I do not necessarily need, but for those who do it is an excellent choice. However, I Believe that this app is also not free and I am not sure how much it costs after its 7-day trial.
Jorte: I tried Jorte and have no major complaints other than that they can update it a bit to match with the times, it should have resizable widgets. In any case I did not need a full-fledged calendar, I just needed a calendar widget, so Jorte was not really for my needs.
Calendar Widget by Milan Sillik was also impressive and nice, again, I chose Event Flow because it just looks more slick, but I believe Calendar Widget may have more options packed in both for calendar purposes and widget customization, so its a must-try. However, again, if you want to unlock all its options such as transparency settings you have to buy the Pro.
Simple Calendar Widget was ok...but I did not like it as much as the Event Flow Widget or the Calendar Widget by Milan Sillik.
UpNext Alpha: I did not try it due to a malware comment on the reviews....so...got nothing to say on this.
So yes overall winner for me is Event Flow Widget, and I also really liked Calendar Widget by Milan Sillik.
Thank you everyone

persianrisk: thanks for compliment of my app
My favorite calendar widget is of course mine - Calendar Agenda Widget - it's free, simple, beautiful and has plenty of customization options (some of them are paid). On of it's most useful features is custom reminder functionality - you can set alarm on any event, and it will ring like phone call or alarm clock at morning I think it's pretty unique on whole market.
Another good widget is my competitor Event flow CW I must admit that it looks good - maybe it's because it looks quite similar to mine widget, (looks like author was inspired by mine app - however this is my personal opinion which can be far away from true).

What's a good news widget

Hey do anyone know of a good news widget to use other than the HTC news widget and the genie widget?
Sent from my Sprint Evo
Try BuzzBox
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Looking for the same..I tried Buzzbox and it sucked..Couldn't find the feeds I searched for and wouldn't show news items but from one feed.
I use gReader. It takes all the feeds you have set up through Google Newsreader and syncs it on your device. The adding a new subscription directly from the application is a bit weird, but it works.
Pretty fast too although I don't think it caches graphics until you open the item.

Well I can just use the HTC News app for that, it works great. I got used to the widget though using Sense the first week or two after I got the phone. So looking for an alternative widget.
I personally think the HTC News widget is too bloated. I prefer the Genie Widget -- not only does it give accurate weather notices, it's also got a great news aggravator.

Where do I find it, I know I found it somewhere before but didn't see it in the market.
I'm also trying to find Genie in the market, but can't seem to locate it...has it been removed?
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=HFKIPATA
any other scrollable news widgets? or any way to trick the sense news widget to work with launcher?
No scrollable news reader widgets I know of and I can assure you I have looked everywhere and likely tried out nearly everything out there. I would like nothing more than to dump Sense but personally, I think they really hit the mark on some of their widgets and their seems to be no equivalent in the market. The guy behind LauncherPro has been doing a great job rolling out similarly functional widgets but no ETA yet on the NewsReader.
Lot's of folks seem to really like the Genie widget which comes on the Nexus One but with no way to choose the specific feeds you want, it doesn't work for me.
Buzzbox has potential and is the only non-Sense news reader with a full screen widget. That said, it still leaves a lot to be desired and was deleted without prejudice. It's buggy, articles were OLD (16+ hours), and it was missing a lot of feeds. I sent an email to the developer and in his response implied that the servers at Buzzbox pre-scan the sources to only send you the "best stuff." WTF? Isn't that the job of the editors at the respective sources...?
gReader syncs feeds from your GoogleReader account and is definitely one you should try if pulling from Google Reader is what you are looking for. However, if you are looking for a bit more customization I would recommend trying out Feedr, NewsRoom, and Greed2. They all have "widgets" but that is using the term loosely in comparison to the Sense one. Personally, when I am running a non-Sense ROM I use NewsRoom. Again, it has widgets but they are really just shortcuts. However, in my opinion (and of course, this entire post has been all my opinion) I think you'll find it has the nicest layout of what is available now plus customizable feeds.

Any Calendar APP with Hi-res support?

I used to use "Jorte" on my Samsung i9000 phone which work pretty good.
But when I use it on transformer. I found it didn't use the advantage of the
Hi-res. Still the same layout but streched to full screen.
Unlike the tablet version of evernote and catch, which is re-layout properly.
Is there any calendar APP with tablet version support? You can refer to iPad's
calendar and you will know what I mean.

I'm not sure about the OP, but the calendar app widget built-in to HC only shows a week out. Jorte gives a few weeks, potentially a month, in a handy little widget. But on tablets it is too small to use.
I use touch calendar. The resolution doesn't get stretched as Jorte
the calendar from Samsung tab seems nice. Any chance to extract it?

Not a fan how the agenda and calendar widgets are charged for separately.
Try Business Calendar. It's fantastic and offers great widgets too!
I've tried both pocket informant and jorte.. must say Business Calendar is much better, even than both combined

What keyboard are you using? If using an aftermarket keyboard, sometimes mine (Tablet Keyboard on TF and Swiftkey on phone) will weird out a bit, so I have to restart.
I'm pretty content with Tablet Keyboard or whatever it's called.
It has the prediction of Swiftkey that I love so dearly, but I won't buy SK out of spite. No need to charge a second time simply for a port, but I digress. Tablet Keyboard is free =P

HTC Photo Album Widget

Are there any similar widgets available on the Android Market similar to the HTC Photo Album Widget(s)? (Specifically the photo grid one and/or the swipe up/down one.)
The constant HTC "loading" after pressing home from any other app is ridiculously frustrating and these widgets are the only thing preventing me from switching to another launcher. I haven't been able to find a suitable replacement widget, but perhaps my search skills aren't up to par.
Anyone know of any widgets with similar functionality? (Basically any widget that isn't fixed to just one photo at a time, with some sort of interactivity allowing you to flip through photos right from the widget.)
Anyone?
Have you tried multiple slideshow?

Aye. I use it all the time. I love it! It looks great and very slick.
Plus, it's great for theft deterrent. I misplaced my phone in a store and one of the employees was able to easily return it to me since my pictures were all over the home screen.
I tried the Multipic Slideshow Widget, but wow, it just does not compare.
I wonder why slideshow widgets are so few and far between? Seems like an easy place to clean up since there are no worthwhile competitors.
I understand completely

I feel you on the theft. That is why my lockscreen is the one where you can use a photo album as the source. ALL my family and friends come in and out of focus when the phone needs to be unlocked. You can steal my phone, but you can't steal my family (though i wish some members could be "borrowed" for an extended period of time. lol).
As for the widget, I am not sure if it is a htc proprietary thing. I just know I would use it in launcher pro. Again, this is the ONLY widget I like from Sense but I am not going to use Sense just for this app. I will keep looking for alternatives and post back if I find something.

[APP][3.0+] Notes for ICS 3.0

Notes / Task app for Honeycomb and above (support for Froyo will come) styled with the HoloTheme. Created the app because there were so few Holo-themed apps out there. Especially ones that also offered tablet support. The idea is that the app should blend in and look like it could have been made by Google.
Features
Phone and Tablet UI
Ice Cream Sandwich style
Synchronization with Google Tasks
Search among your entire notes, not just titles
Change font type and size
User configurable theme
User configurable sort order
English, German and Swedish language support
Will implement resizeable widget soon. Support has been added for AndroidAgendaWidget meanwhile; just waiting on them to release their supported version as well.

Can add that as a future feature. What it does now is that is always auto-selects the list that was modified the latest. So if you edited a note, the list that note lives in will be the one that is selected on next restart. So your most commonly used list will be the most commonly opened
its works good for me
Thanks for sharing!
There's an issue on some devices which causes a null pointer exception and crash.
By chance, I tried to install my app on a Galaxy Tab in a store today and the app crashed right on start with that exact error.
I can't replicate the problem in the emulator running 3.2, so it's not a problem with Honeycomb. But it could be a problem with Samsung's modified stuff. No one here has a galaxy tab running samsung stock by any chance?

Feature request: Gnotes has a very nice feature where it "converts" (it's just a display thing really, interpreting a certain char as trigger) lists into checklists. Very nice for shopping lists and the like. (Not that important though as I'll have to keep Gnotes for some of its features anyway).
Did I mention reminders yet? That's a major missing feature imho.

You could make a shopping list by making one note for every item you wish to buy, and then you could check them off in the notes/tasks list. Does Gnotes do it any different?
Notifications are in the pipeline now that I've got the syncing working properly
1 task per item is a kinda ugly workaround. Gnotes converts a whole note into a checklist. It's a free app so easy to check it out. BUt as said, not thar important as I'll be keeping Gnotes anyway.

Chameleon Launcher

Anyone using chameleon launcher on their infinity?
Looks like another great launcher for tablets...
http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/18/chameleon-launcher-1.0-google-play/
whats so great about it?
Tried it.
Uninstalled it.
I prefer Apex launcher. Chameleon has some nice ideas but it's still buggy and not ready for release imo. It costs $10 too which is a mistake.
Basically, the main feature is that you can set it up so that your default "home" screen automatically changes depending on where you are, what time it is, etc... But really, other than that, I'm not so sure what people (including myself - I'm a "backer") were so excited about. Besides being able to set your default home screen depending on certain conditions, it really doesn't add much to the launcher experience...
I personally can't remember why it was supposed to be so great!
I un-installed it as well, mainly because you can only use widgets provided by the app - you lose access to all standard Android widgets, which makes it unusable in my opinion.
That being said, it would be nice if Nova, Apex, etc added the ability to automatically change your home screen depending on certain conditions - I think that is a cool feature...

I am a backer, too. I am disappointed, too.
Switching things like chameleon does is really nothing special. It is still just one screen. So, i can set my apex launcher screens to reflect what chameleon tries to do very easily. The only thing is that i have to swipe. To be honest, this is not exactly true either, cause almost everything can be done with Tasker.
So yeah. I still hope chameleon starts getting better, but it has to be real quick or all the interest is going to float away and another app will go down the drain like many others.
I backed it too... it costed 10$ . But after few days i uninstalled it. Lack of Widgets , very Slow , lack of user defined wallpapers etc .
They are still in Beta i guss and they are updating the app almost everyday . Hope they come up with more nich Widgets etc soon.
thanks all for the replies!!! was trying to see if it warranted the ten dollar price
like i use a different homescreen when im in my vehicle (media oriented),but right now i just swipe right to get to it
swipe left to go back to my regular homescreen
chameleon key feature is simply to "auto-swipe" ?
At first I was disappointed, 1.0 has changed my opinion its stable and looks amazing. I was the first to complain with the beta releases now with the widget api released things good get interesting. @Apex launcher pro on my tf700t.....too buggy

Kickstarter backer here and I'm a little disappointed now that they have issued Ver. 1.0. There's no calendar widget, you can only place so many apps in the dock, the dock is huge and not adjustable, no pre-built Android widgets so any thing you've already paid for is wasted, and it doesn't do news feed images very well.
But the biggest disapointment is the lack of a calendar widget! That should have been a fundamental basic widget from the start. It's not so it won't be my launcher of choice untill that get's fixed.

That's one key feature, but I would say the bigger draw is the aesthetic polish it brings. That's one of the reasons they won't let normal android widgets be used, as it clashes with the look of Chameleon. Give it time for more widgets to get made (especially with the API now available to developers) before deciding if it's a success or failure. IMO with 3 or 4 more of the widgets I need, I would easily use it as my day to day launcher.
whoah....cant use regular widgets? only widgets you can use are chameleon widgets?

Correct. If you care to learn html5 you can make your own Chameleon widgets, and in the future they will add the ability to use widgets other users create. Until then, you only have the official chameleon ones to choose from. No standard Android widgets are usable in Chameleon though.

Chameleon will definitely get better with further releases and more widgets added.
Like someone before me said, for me too, the polished and beautiful design is an added value of this launcher, nothing else (at least currently).
Calendar, Google+ and Music widgets are coming in near future. Custom widgets from users are coming, too, eventually. (i am hoping for beter gmail, email widgets etc...which can easily be done by others, not necessarily by teknision).
But, as i said before, they will have to act quickly - hype is on, but as with anything else it can get cold very quickly, too.

Another kickstarter backer here. I also uninstalled it. It supports my gmail and news. I don't use Twitter or Facebook so it's fairly useless to me. Maybe widgets that appeal more to me are yet to come but not using it now.
