Hi, I'm running CM10.0 (4.1.2) on my t989. I have an old galaxy discover that is running 4.0.4, so I was happy to find that things like messaging and contacts are the same as the discover. The version of 4.0.4 that came stock on the t989 , even though is the same ICS version of android as the discover had a different messaging app, different contact app, and a few other differences (clock, gallery, etc) while I like the messaging app and people app from the discover 4.0.4 better, I liked the clock and gallery from the t989 version of 4.0.4 better. I have the flashable zip for the t989 4.0.4. My question is, can I extract the app's from that zip file for things like clock and gallery, on a pc, or using an app like apk extractor without having that ROM running? I know I can extract system apps from a running ROM e.g. I can extract messaging apk off of cm10.0 (currently running) etc, but I'd like to extract the clock and gallery app from the t989 stock 4.0.4 zip file and install them on cm10.0. Even if I manage to find/extract these apk's and install them will they even run? The clock app on the stock t989 allows you to set your alarm from any mp3 on your phone, while the one from stock discover (same as cm10) forces you to set whatever mp3 you want as alarm, as a phone ringtone first. Does any one of you fine developers know a way of accomplishing the extraction of apks from flashable ROM zips

Hi,
I just installed Vortex's Custom Rom but there are a couple of other apps that were on the stock version that I'd like to have, including swype. I got a copy of all the stock apps for .602 and swype is in there along with some other apps like DLNA, it has both and APK and the ODYK files. I've tried to install swype through the phone but it constantly crashes.
Can someone tell me how to install these apps back onto the custom rom?
Thanks.
You can get swype using the swype beta install... Google it

Hi guys, i just have recently downgraded my ics to gb rom rooted. I missed some of the cool built-in apps that it has on ics compare to gb. Such as Gallery, Music, sms, dialer and browser. Is it possible to extract it from ics rom and replace it with my current ones? if not, could you recommend me some apps that i could get it over with? i mean i want to save some space(ram) thats all and make it look cool.

You could always put ICS back on the device and extract the APK using ADB (install QtADB, it's easier to use). The thing is : it probably won't work. Most apps "built for ICS" depends on libraries that are simply not there in previous version of the os. I know the Music app can be installed (google it) but I'm pretty sure the dialer and sms cannot.
thank you! thats all i needed to hear
I still have my Galaxy Nexus for a little while so I figured I'll upload the system/app folder from it.
I'm running AOKP rom on it so I'm not sure if that causes any issue or if it affects the system apps

EDIT: I'm posting this because I see lots of people asking for stock ICS apps...
??
I think he's posting it in case some people want to try swapping out some sense apps for aosp ics ones.
I miss AOKP

Hi thanks man i have installed some off the apps from this but not all off them work..
Like >.
1. Contacts
2. Calculator
i copied and pasted them in to /system/app/
and know i copied and pasted them in to /system/app/app and see what it dose ill update this post in few
i pushed Calendar.apk (renamed it to Calendar1.apk so it wouldn't overwrite the stock version), GoogleCalendar.apk, GoogleDeskClock.apk, Email.apk and Exchange.apk to /system/app. i also made sure the permissions were set as rw-r--r--. all were accessible after reboot. unfortunately, i couldn't edit/modify all of my calendar events with the ASOP calendar versions. email and Desk Clock worked on my device without issue.
How can we install the stock ics phone app?
Is it possible to have ICS folder instead of this HTC customized one?
The folders are built in to the sense framework. The only way to change them is using a different launcher.
Yes,I suppose So.
Has anyone tried the email and exchange apps from this?

Hello everyone, I hope I have posted in the right section, I have to ask you a question that despite several hours of trial and research remains to me: I was going to download the firmware official google nexus 7 and take the apk that interest me, and install them on the samsung tablet 7plus.
I downloaded the version both deodexed and odexed of the google nexus 7 and I extracted, for example, the contacts.apk DEODEXED from it.Installing the apk android ics stock tells me: error with the analysis of the packet. I also tested with version odexed putting the apk file and the odex file into the folder system / apps but also restarting did not work ...
1) it's possible what I want and for example it's possible to install another launcher (ex. launcher.apk stolen from google nexus 7 stock deodexed) like a normal apk and use it just pressing home button and selecting it instead of touchwiz launcher?
2) if yes can you explain me the procedure?
3) do you know where I can find the backgrounds stock once downloaded any ROM (which gives me the compacted system folder plus other img etc etc?
Thank you in advance .... sorry for my english, i hope you have understood my intention : I'm going to have both (one of the touchwiz and one of the stock nexus 7) or replace the contacts application and launcher with those of the google nexus 7
See you soon, Andrea
What version is your tablet running? The apks might not be working because they are 4.1 apks and your system isn't compatible

Ok, i'm running 4.04 android ICS and the nexus 7 is 4.1 jelly bean... i'll try with an ICS version, but are you sure that the only problem is the difference of versions of firmware?
I think that's what causing the problem, I get the same problem when I take a 4.0 apk and try to use it on my 2.3 phone. It just isn't compatible with the system

Also you have to make sure your running the proper version of the OS. An AOSP ROM apk will not work on a non AOSP rom

Have you tried to install the apks? If so what happens?

You can try pushing them to system/apps but I dont think they will run. If you want the stock apps stick with a stock ROM.
As i understand it...Stock apps are usually Odexed. Custom ROMs are De-odexed. Difference? Odex is the part loaded to the dalvik cache to help make the phone boot quicker. So the phone maker separates the APK into two files. The apk and odex. You cannot just run the file with the APK alone...you NEED the odex. A custom ROM would de-odex the files and they are combined into one. It WILL NOT run odex files. I have tried on a few ROMs on the bionic to get it to run stock apps in a custom rom if i included the odex. Still wouldn't work. If you can find someone to compile the APK and ODEX for you it may work.

Edit: plus many apps on this device like the weather clock are tied to touch wiz. You cannot use them outside of it. Even on another launcher with the stock ROM (nova [my fave], apex, go, etc)
If you want stock bloated apps use a touchwiz rom.
Good luck
