I am really really sick of this Droid 2 that VZW replaced my Droid with. I'm sick of Moto services invading my phone and slowing it down. There's no true ASOP build. This phone sucks balls.
I was set on buying an Incredible 2 OoC b/c it was cheap at $440 and saving my upgrade till later, but where I'm moving to next week already has LTE towers.
Do I really want to wait 2 months using this laggy trash? And possibly end up getting a TB anyway because the other phones coming out suck.
Or do I want to get a TB and save my upgrade till later in the Q4 2011/Q1 2012 when NFC Ice Cream Sandwich phones come out.
Don't want a Charge, poor build material choices.
Don't want a Revolution. Bing...
Does it really matter? Not really... You just root and you can put whatever you want and however you want.
Motorola tends to lock their bootloaders and make it hard to do what you want.
Samsung stated that they'll never lock it that way(Not in those words, but given the sense that they will leave it open)
HTC has been locking down their devices, but not as tough as Motorola does.
So basically pick a device with the hardware you want, and make sure it's root and you can install custom roms/kernels.
The T-Bolt is a great phone, and it has excellent community support. I have absolutely no complaints about my phone (aside from the battery life).
That being said, the Galaxy S II that's coming out looks sexy as hell. It might be worth the wait to hold out for that. Honestly, it's totally up to you.
There was talk about tiered 4G plans, which is what made me opt for the early upgrade to the T-Bolt (hoping to be grandfathered in to unlimited 4G). I haven't heard much on that front, but it's still a possibility.
wait a few months
from everything i've ever read about samsung phones, their software support is absolutely horrible. slow updates, faulty gps etc. i've heard a ton of people complain about the issue, and it seems to be the case with all their phones... never had one, but that's the impression i get.
the thunderbolt is a decent phone, but all it really has over the droid x is 4g. the t-bolt screen might be a little better, but not much. in day to day use it's not faster, the battery isn't even close and the build quality of the DX is equal or better. if i were you i would pick up a DX on craigslist for $175 and save your upgrade for a few months. The dx has even more dev support than the T-bolt and it's the best phone I ever had.
bottom line is, if you really want 4g speeds right now, really really bad, then get the thunderbolt. if you can do without that for awhile i think you will be really happy with a DX, especially after using the Droid 2, and you'll spend less than half the money.
the above is just my .02.
Show me a HTC or Motorola phone with latest software on it
Not you fat Jesus
I bought mine off contract and am very happy I did it. Yes there are a few issues, but nothing a little root cant fix.
Though waiting a few months for a better phone won't hurt, the TB is a great choice.

I just have to say that this cracks me up every time I see you post it.
Once you get a taste of 4G, you will never want a phone that is 3G only. So if you are moving to 4G area and don't want to pay full retail, I suggest you get a used Tbolt from craigslist and use it until something comes along that you like better, then sell the Tbolt
i love my TB, i have it rooted with das bamf NTE 1.6.3 and its about the coolest thing since MP3s.. as with others, the battery life on this thing is fkin AWFUL!! i have the extended battery and i still dont feel like its enough, however i use my phone probably more than i should or more than others. either way the LTE network is retarded fast and i'd never want 3g.
First off I just want to say I owned a droid 2 and it wasn't that bad. I jumped to the thunderbolt just to lock in the 4g rate. The bigger screen is a nice plus but other than that is the same thing. I wasn't overly impressed as other owners of the droid x and 2 have stated is not that big of a jump.
Before I end let me just say other than software wise android phones are exactly where I want them. I don't need a dual core chip in my phone and 4g is. good enough for anything I would ever want to do with my phone. I'm sure most of you will disagree but that's just how I feel. Flame away!

I picked up a TB on craigslist for $350. The custom roms still seem a bit premature, however they should evolve over time. Nonetheless it's an amazing phone. If you have a desk job or spend a lot of time in your car, the battery life is not much of an issue. Just stay plugged in.
Got my TB off Craigslist for a fascinate trade plus 150$. I love it so far.. 4g is amazing..once you.have it you won't want to go back.
Roms are not bad. I'm waiting for a complete cm7 or sense 3.0 rom but other than that das bamf runs fantastic.
If you have the cash and want a great phone with a growing dev community, go for it.

Thank you for all the input.
It's funny the other 2 forums told me I'm a moron and this one says Buy a TB!!!
I use over 2GB of data a month so the 4G unlimited (Hopefully grandfathered for life) makes it very tempting since my upgrade isn't till mid July which is around the time the rumors of tiered data plans landing. I'm also not to optimistic about an actual new phone coming out then. Maybe the SGSII but I really hate the fact that it doesnt have a search button. It's a damn Google phone and I use the search button all the time, for GOOGLE, not Bing!
I didn't even think about craigslist. That might be a good option.
As for a cheap DX. No way. It basically is a D2 minus the keyboard. I like the keyboard, I can sacrifice it for a 4G newish phone but not for an X. and I hate the Blur invasion, and locked bootloader. My D2 has been running custom roms. They're just too laggy and buggy still. Fab, Kejar, and Rummy are awesome, but they all had DXs and the D2 ports were just not good. Most of it I blame on Blur still having to be in there. I've been running GB stock blur and custom and for the first time since my D1 ADW launcher gets kicked out of memory and has to reload when I hit home.... I hate it.
EBay is your friend. Lots of Tbolts available every day, including NIB models. Prices similar to Craigslist, depending where you are.

The only thing on verizon i would trade for is the droid DNA because of the quad core cpu and 1080p display.
I did exactly that last month. Haven't looked back. But at the same time if I had stuck with the s3 I don't think i would have regretted that either. Razr HD has the great build of aluminum and kevlar, the cool led notification bar under the logo and a nice aosp-ish software build, plus battery life is better. However, run the Razr HD launcher on CM10 on the s3 and thats basically the speed experience you get on the razr. Software stutter included, scrolling left to the quick settings stutters the first time you do it after each unlock, and the camera isn't terrible but is noticeably worse. A little annoying. I'm actually debating going back to the Galaxy nexus for some pure 4.2

GS3 or GN2, anything else is a downgrade!
Maybe you have never owned a Moto. I always have until I bought this GS3 because I vowed to dump them for their locked bootloader BS! I was very sick and tired of the inability to load a custom kernel. Do you want to overclock? Do you want alot of development for your phone? I'm not saying there isn't development for moto, but it's a difficult and time consuming process. You may be looking many many months before you can just overclock. Everything is a pain because you have to work around their kernel which can't be touched. Kexec is still fairly new for Moto and last I checked there was only one custom kernel that could be side loaded for the Razr and devs couldn't figure out how to get the second core to work on the CPU. Obviously this is a hot subject with me lol. My last Moto was the "red headed step child"(BIONIC). Bionic..."The machine of all machines" Motorola's Flagship". Then 2 or 3 weeks later the Razr comes out and claim that the flagship! That was strike one and it continued from there through development struggling. The only thing thats good about Moto is there decent build quality, radios, and when something good finally gets developed for it you just about poop yourself!

i have both in my hands right now....traded my galaxy nexus for the razr HD...i love the build quality of the razr, battery life and the motorola radios..however it lacks the developer support that the s3 has...only a few roms out there....both feel about as fluid and fast as the other...so the main question is are you a crackflasher or not.....thats what it boils down to me....plus the amount of accessories for the s3 compared to the razr
The battery isn't a problem for the GS3 because of the fact you can put in a new battery or extended. The Razr line does have nice build quality but ugly design. To me, I think Samsung does a better job with their software and the camera is a lot better vs Motorola. I haven't notice any worst when it comes to wireless radio going from a Maxx to a GS3. The Wi-Fi is better on my GS3. Even though the newer Motorola phones have that "stock Android" look & feel it doesn't feel optimized yet. It lags from time to time. And the Samsung development is way better. The developers have done awesome work and pretty much negated the locked boot loader. Motorola's development is a joke. There's no reason to get a Motorola phone any time soon in my opinion. They haven't stepped anything up in the last few years except for battery life.
Hey guys, my contract expires in a month and I am looking at a couple of new phones to buy. I currently own a Droid Incredible, and I absolutely love it. The only thing that I don't like about it is that it has poor battery life, and it's kind of slow. Things that I do like about it are that I have a plethora of roms to choose from and it has great development support. Some phones that I am looking to buy are the Droid Razr Maxx HD, Samsung Galaxy S3, and the Google Nexus. Can you tell me about the pros and cons of the Maxx HD? Is the battery life really that good? I appreciate any help!
Droid Razr Maxx HD
Pro-Battery life, decent screen, battery life, S4 cpu, battery life, doesn't have an overly cluttered skin, battery life
Cons-1gb of RAM (not horrible but not that great for a device this new. 2gb is quickly becoming the standard)

Agreed. The development for the Razr HDs, like most of Moto's recent phones, is practically non-existent. Battery life outstrips every other phone on the market though.

I know what you mean. I'm coming from a popular HTC phone where there are like 127 pages of roms to choose from. I think that is the only downside to this phone.
I upgraded to the RAZR MAXX HD from the original Droid Incredible just before Thanksgiving. Was waiting for the next great HTC phone but the DNA with 16g non-expandable storage (11g usable) and the small size battery was a big disappointment. I never gave a second thought to Motorola phones before, frankly because all the early ones were ugly.
But I couldn't be happier with the RM HD. Nice looking phone, battery life is incredible, beautiful screen, great signal strength on both voice and data, sound quality (streaming bluetooth) is excellent. Great build quality. The UI is pretty much stock android and very nice. I though I would miss Sense but not at all. And to me it's the perfect size, although a tad on the heavy side. New phones like the Note 2 and DNA are just too big in my opinion. 2g of ram would have been nice but other than that I can't think of anything this phone is lacking. Many reviews say the camera is inferior but it's fine for my needs. Coming from the Incredible, this camera was an improvement.
I played around with the S3 but it just seemed like the build quality of the MAXX was far better and from what I've read it has signal strength issues with the radios. IMO the Maxx HD is the best android phone on the market right now.

woohoo
Just got my Droid Razr HD yesterday I had the Razr Maxx and decided to sell it and upgrade to the HD thought about the HD Maxx but thought if the battery can last all day on this it would be fine and well further more I stand to make more money in my pocket in the end! So far from turning on I made it down to 47% battery with the normal use of my Maxx I beleive this phone has as good a battery life as the original Maxx the only question is will they make a battery replacement for this one to give it a Maxx battery later on! Also That is From 1:00 P.M. yesterday till 8:30 A.M. this mornning 3hrs screen on time and everything else on!!!
Looking at the above post for his Maxx My battery Is lasting just as long as the Maxx 22 Hours on 3 Hours Screen on 47%!!! WooHoo!!!

I'll start. I came from the note 2. It was fully unlocked running a new ROM each night. Unfortunately it overheated overnight just a few days ago. I do miss root, but let's hope that will come sooner rather than later.

From Note 2, my favorite phone ever. If you look at my signature, those are all the other phones I have owned, including a Note 3 I returned. This M8 looks good so far, supposed to be delivered today. I saw a person at school had it, and it looked nice. He asked if I wanted to hold it and I said no, cause I want to hold mine for for the first time. If I don't like it I will either return it, or sell it and wait for the Note 4 to leaked to hell (yes leaked) or if the Z2 is on VZW I am picking it up.

Sgs3 and... I feel the difference completely. This phone feels like aosp. Just zooming through and beautiful. The camera isn't so bad either. Glad I dropped the cash for it.
Sgs3 was free and it didn't feel anything like aosp.

Came from the HTC ATT One X+ device. It's night and day! Old phone at a 2100mah battery with tegra 3 chip overclocked. Even with root, tweaks, custom rom still only get maybe 6-7hrs of battery life with no gaming, youtube, nothing! I'm a heavy gamer and wow this device is amazing on Dead Trigger 2, like xbox360 graphics and fluid! Doesn't overheat either like my old device.
Some little software flukes like no blocked text messaging option anymore in stock messaging app, soft keys won't go from portrait to landscape when using camera, etc. Hoping though when we get the new software update with the power save modes we will get these fixed and put in?
I asked in the intl forum if they have block text messaging option. We have blocked call option, not texts like before though.

LG G2 to M8
Things that take some getting used to:
-5.2 inch screen no bezels compared to M8's super chin
-G2's neutral color tones to M8's super saturation (the play store looks acid piss green)
-Paranoid Android to Sixth Sense (although nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be)
BUT I caved to the M8 because of headphone audio quality. HeadFi has been hyping HTC devices and the difference really is night and day. And microSD support helps too.
My one concern is battery life. Too early to tell. Hoping for the best.
Came from a Nokia Lumia Icon which I got 4 days prior to getting the M8 yesterday. Got the dot case and a pair of Sol Republic headphones for a discount (which sound amazing with this phone). Perfect phone setup. Very pleased with the M8. No issues since set up. Definitely worth an upgrade from last year's model.

Note 2 here as well. Had loved that phone for as long as I had it, but the issue with "Refreshing SIM data" constantly finally broke my spirits. I had rooted, overclocked and was running CM11, but the M8 blows it's doors off. Kind of miss having a "phablet", but I've still got my Nexus 7 and iPad 4 for the bigger projects.
I came from a Galaxy Nexus. I loved my Galaxy Nexus, but even with fresh wipes on optimized ROMs, it was running painfully slow. So far, I enjoy the M8. I'm a big fan of the overall build quality and the bezel doesn't seem that bad to me. My only gripe is how tightly it is locked down on Verizon. Not being able to play with custom ROMs or even have root is a big issue for me. Unfortunately, there isn't anything else I'm interested in. Unless there's a surprise announcement of the Sony Xperia Z2 coming to Verizon, I'll probably stick with this phone.
GS3...Definitely takes getting used to holding a phone this much bigger. I also keep going to power it on on the right side instead of top right lol...I don't like the swipe to unlock as I unintentionally wake the phone often other than that though the phone screams performance wise

Even with considering the lawsuit, Verizon got away with continuing to charge unlimited customers a monthly fee for using the hotspot feature.

How to use?
Choose a variety of tools (INS) and percussion (PERC) on the right side. Additional options, where FX / Key / Scale and tone can be changed. Just play with it and you will see that it is very easy to use, once you learn how to use it.

Just use FoxFi. I have the paid version, and use it on my current Note 2 and will on the m8 when it eventually comes. Use Usb for the most part, but WiFi works well too.

I am considering purchasing the Gold HTC one M8 today. I still have unlimited, and currently on a Galaxy S4, but with an upgrade on a dumbphone line (and another coming next month) I'm thinking of taking advantage of the $99 promotion. I am a former HTC user with the OG Dinc, and the Rezound (not a big fan of that phone). My biggest complaint about HTC was battery life. I swore I'd never own a phone without a removable battery (always carried a spare battery for the Dinc and Rezound) but now with 2 juice packs, an extra battery is pointless, as I never bought one for the S4.
Is the battery comparable to the S5? Should I hold out for the LG G3? I like the Galaxy Note, but will not buy another Samsung as VZW has locked them down too tightly. Just curious on the opinions of current users before I buy one.
Great battery life on this phone. Better than s4 by far. I wouldn't buy an LG device because I want a phone with development and a few of my friends have the same phone ( no idea which one but all have the same GPS problem which I'm sure is software related but still).
I'd you can kill the m8 battery in one day and it's not watching movies or playing games, then you need a life. I've never been able to get below 50% street a full 15hr day unless it was using a lot of navigation.

My record so far is 3d 9h 11m 38s. I typically get at least 2 days before I need to plug it in.
This phone has phenomenal battery life. I, too, never thought I'd buy a sealed battery phone. But this phone is just so good that I did. The development is incredible, the phone looks and feels great, the performance is other-worldly, and the camera is way better than people give it credit for. I'd highly recommend it over the S5, and this is coming from someone who had the GS3 happily for 2 years.

Thanks guys. I have 4 lines on my plan. To get the gold M8 yesterday I would have had to use the upgrade from my father in laws phone which would be a pia. Going through the vzw website to transfer it to the extra dumb phone line at home is easier so I'll just order the regular silver from Verizon. Sounds promising. I so wanted HTC to succeed but man the rezound left a bad taste in my mouth.
