Hello,
I have an Evo Shift stuck in the boot loop. As soon as I put the battery in all it does is reset itself to the screen with the white background and green "HTC" logo, and will keep restarting until the battery dies.
If I hold volume down and turn it on, it does go into the bootloader, but picking ANYTHING, such as recovery or factory reset, does nothing but sending it back to the HTC screen.
I have tried flashing the RUU.exe (2.27.651.2) through Fastboot USB and it completed successfully, but it just restarts right back to the HTC screen. I have also put PG06img that I found on here on the root of my card, and it will never load it up.
Are there any other solutions anyone can think of? They would be much appreciated. I see a lot of these threads for regular Evos, but not for Shifts.
The only other thing I really know about the phone is that it is:
S-On
Hboot- 0.98.0001
Radio- 1.08.00.0506
Thank you so much for all of your help!
Seems to me you aren't rooted and that's more than likely your problem, boot into fastboot and use the ruu application for gingerbread.

While I am pretty sure I am not rooted, if you are talking about the early RUU release; 1.17.651.1, the application starts and then ends up failing in the beginning of the process. Is this what you are talking about? The drivers should be all good, the application starts to flash and then dies though. Thanks!

Use the new RUU. But make sure your SD card is formatted to a FAT32 partition. (Stock 2gig sd card and some other store boughts are not)
You can format on your computer and then place the RUU on the root of sd card again
(Bootloader won't recognize the ruu zip if not partitioned)

Ok, I just did this, everything updated fine and all completeted on the bootloader. It then said "press power to reboot." I did so, and went right back into the same boot loop. Any other ideas. I figured running this, and the RUU.exe on the computer were the sure fire ways to get this thing working again???

So just a little information.
you said your not rooted?
So that means you have no ability to flash anything because you have no custom recovery and the bootloader isnt unlocked (S-on)
So what DID you do before it bootlooped? there had to have been something you were trying to do.
Not trying to blame anything on you at all just want to make sure we are helping the most accurate way possible

No I hear ya. I was sold the phone fairly cheap and was told "all you need to do is to reinstall the RUU, that is all that is wrong." Obviously I was skeptical, but when I checked everything out, everything looked good, and again, for the price, I knew it was a gamble. That being said, I'm sure something was tried in order to modify the phone and this is how it got like this.
I have soft bricked my old Evo 4g a handful of times and an RUU or Rom flash would always solve the problem.
Anyway, there is no custom recovery, and I'm pretty sure theres no root because it is still "S-ON," I am just trying to see if anyone here has any more info before it goes in for repair.
The only last thing I would guess you MIGHT be able to do is to install a custom recovery, but is there ANY way to do this by just being in the bootloader and using FASTBOOT USB? Any more help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It shouldn't have a custom recovery if it shows s-on.
I don't see why the RUU wouldn't work.
Honestly it doesn't sound like a softbrick- sounds like its just bricked (Which ive only heard of 1 Shift getting bricked completley)

I'm trying to resolve a very similar problem as him, but I know of the history of my phone (since I'm the only owner), so hopefully an answer for me can assist him also.
The Story: One day, I'm playing Uno HD (downloaded from Android Market). I toss out a Draw 4, and then I see: "Google Infrastructure Failure" and a Triangle with an exclamation mark. I reset the phone, and it starts up fine. Then a few hours later, my phone randomly restarts itself into the bootloader screen after trying to reload the home screen (because the memory manager is overly aggressive).
I see no HTC Screen. It goes straight to the bootloader without any input. If I plug it to the charger from an off state, the amber light comes on, and 10 seconds later, bootloader screen. With a battery, it appears automatically after 45 seconds.
Fastboot can read my memory card just fine. It's already been re-formatted as FAT32 in my pitiful attempt to try to repair it. It's checked and read a PG06IMG file I placed on the SD Card's root, went through the entire process of reading it, but it doesn't ask me if I want to upgrade. It takes me back to the original screen. (Maybe I'm loading the wrong file).
Recovery and Factory Reset immediately restarts the bootloader after showing me the skateboarding android splash screen.
I've also tried to flash the newest stock RUU for it. (2.76.651.4), but after the RUU sends the command to start up in bootloader mode, the phone shuts off. Thus giving me the connection error.
(Maybe if someone could rewrite the .exe file to not send out the command to begin loading as if it was in the bootloader screen, it could work. I'd pay for that.)
Other Stuff:
ROM: Stock Sprint Gingerbread OTA ROM. I've been living the vanilla life. No root access. No funny stuff. Just a stock phone with apps (Third Blade, Uno HD, ASTRO File Manager, ect...)

Is there a way we can flash a file from the SD Card which will turn off the security and/or temp/perm root it? (forgive my noobness for such a question)
EDIT: I'm referring to a way that's outside of the adb push method. My device can't be found, and the device won't get past the bootloader screen, so that method doesn't help me too much. However, I do have the ADK Installed and the ADB Command Line works fine.
Ok .. HERE'S THE SOLUTION:
First off all if your S- ON it means you are NOT rooted
If you get stuck in a bootloop .. don't worry it can be fixed.
What you need to do is download PG06IMG.ZIP and place it on your sd card, you can access your sd card by going into recovery then mount section, then usb. This will allow you to move the file from your computer to the root of your sd card.
Once you do this be sure you back up any info you don't want to lose. Once you have the file in place, go back to fastboot ( hold vol down and power) it will read file and when it asks you to update press vol up. It will take a few minutes to update this will revert your phone back to stock but if you have an old recovery it will not do a full restore, it will only update the rom.
Once you get your phone back to working, I recommend updating your recovery by downloading Rom Manager and flashing the latest clockwork recovery. This problem happens usually due to an old recovery.
One other thing you can try if you do NOT want to reset your phone, you can try flashing a new kernal.

RUU won't work if your stuck in bootloop ..

If you want to root your phone use visionary to temp root then use shift rr .. you can then flash a custom recovery which is essential to avoid this from happening again

For the thread starter, the person that sold you the phone probably tried writing to the system partition with s-on. Since you can get to the bootloader, see if you can get into recovery. If you can, recovery can be seen in adb, even the stock recovery. From there, gingerbread root, plenty of guides out there, make sure you flash the misc.img, download the froyo downgrade zip (that pgimg09.zip or something like that, just search for it, but not with the numbers I just gave, those are made up.)
From there either flash the gingerbread zip or ruu, and goon with a unrooted life. Or follow one of the many guides to froyo root, and live the life of the rooted. Your choice.
For the second person with a similar issue, the same method will work for you (assuming you can get to recovery), gingerroot, froyo downgrade, and since you like being unrooted, just ruu or zip back to gingerbread.
Solution found enjoy, and just think, if root hadn't been discovered for gingerbread, you would be screwed right now, make sure to thank otaking.
I have the same boot loop problem. I tried using the PG06IMG.zip file and fastboot/bootloader screen says I have the wrong image. It's most likely because it's for 2.2 and I have 2.3. I also don't have any recovery. Is there a PG06IMG.zip for 2.3 or the like?

since i have s-on, will i be able to install it though?
i can get the file on the root of the sdcard with an adapter since i can't push from adb. and i can't temp root the phone because if i try a normal reboot i get this stupid boot loop. is there a way to get s-off through hboot on the phone?
i don't know why i didn't notice that first file was messed up, it was only 6MB.

I have an Inspire 4G and i was trying to put ENG-OFF following this steps: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=855403 to run "Desire HD s easy-off.exe" gave me "Bootloader is Corrupt. DO NOT REBOOT!" (He went out alone) and I could not take him with anything, you connect to the charger and nothing, the PC and nothing, as 20 minutes after i had pressed the power button turned on the cel with the white screen and vibrating continuously approx 8min, the problem is that in the beginning it takes too ... Now every time I reboot so, and if I discharge the battery will be useless because I do not grab power when connected to the charger or the pc .....
- I can not enter the bootloader, I managed to do with the "Super Tool V3" and the recovery reinstall the ROM, I thought it would end the problem but stayed the same, takes too long to start and does not grasp the power of the charger ... .
What can i do? What is it?
If I noticed that the bootloader says "ENG-OFF" and if you step back to ENG-ON?
I greatly appreciate (and have no idea how) that can help me please .....
(sorry about my english)
You have a newer version Inspire that came preloaded with Gingerbread. I believe trying to achieve Eng-off has flashed a previous bootloader that is incompatible with your phone. Since you say you can't get to your bootloader then you will need to install the stock ATT gingerbread ROM using your PC. Get it here: http://dl4.htc.com/RUU_Ace_Gingerbr...60.25_26.10.04.03_M_release_200368_signed.exe You will then have to re-root using the Hack Kit.

Maybe u missed the part where it said that it was not compatible with GB shipped devices. You have definetely messed your bootloader. You need to fix that first. Hit the Hack Kit IRC channel and we will lend you a hand.

Hi,
I have my HTC Desire S for about 6 month and it worked fine. About three weeks ago I installed the official ICS upgrade for this phone. The phone was rooted (by me) so I re-locked it in order to apply the update (sorry if I'm not using the right terms, I a bit new for this..).
A week ago, while in visiting in Rome, I tried to open my phone after the flight and it started a reboot loop. After a while it somehow recovered, and from the HTC recovery log I saw there was some "radio failure".
During the last week it would reboot from time to time, and I thought I would check it out when coming back home.
Now, trying to open it after the flight home - it won't even get beyond the HTC logo, just stuck in endless reboot loop.
I read some posts on this problem, but because my phone is re-locked I don't know what I can do: any thread about this problem requires the phone to be rooted. And I'm not sure how to root it because any thread about performing a root requires to open the phone and set up some settings, like 'enable debugging' for the USB connection (which I cannot do because phone keeps rebooting..).
Here is what I see at the HBOOT screen, hope it helps:

PLZ HELP!!
Thanks
Update: I've unlocked my phone again using the HTC site, so now the HBOOT screen shows *** UNLOCKED *** as the first line, other lines are the same (if this helps...)
UPDATE: I've used some very good guide (unfortunately I cannot post the link because I'm a new user..) for rooting and flashing a new ROM to my phone (downgraded to Gingerbread ROM), BUT the phone keeps rebooting..
Help plz....
As it did work until you opened the phone, either you made a physical problem, and now need a new board because it is defective, torn, cracked or something...
Or you made a mistake by removing the battery while the phone was still (partially) powered. This may cause some partition damage like on a pc. As there is no chkdsk available, the easiest solution is to repartition and reformat.
I read you already have reformatted the data partition by factory reset, and tried to repartition by installing that old update.
That would not work, as a normal flashing of a (custom or original) rom will / can not repartition the emmc chip. The only way to do that is to execute the RUU again what made phone get the ICS Update.
If that doesn't solve your problem, your phone seems to be defective.
The last option that remains then is to replace the emmc chip.
Verstuurd van mijn Nexus 7 met Tapatalk
Thanks for the reply.
Can you explain how should I reformat and repartition? I have now the ClockworkMod Recovery (V5.8.1.5)
I cannot run RUU because the exe file tries to connect to the phone and gets an connection error. It only worked when the phone completed its upload and now (because of the reboot-loop) I can't get to this state.
Ok, It took me some time to understand that when in fastboot the PC has communication with the phone and I can install RUU..
So I re-install the HTC official ICS RUU for my device and it seems PROBLEM SOLVED!
Phone has started, I could play with it a bit... and no reboots yet.
Let's see if it keeps like that for several hours / days... I hope it is not an hardware problem and only software...
Thanks!
Hello. i am new here , it has been 2 days while i'am searching forums and the net so i decided to ask u guys who have experience in this field.
i have acquired a htc sensation XL (h boot 1.28.0006 - S on ) i have on it the ICS 4.0.3 i have unlocked the boot loader by using HTCDEV .
My first objective was to ROOT the phone , i downloaded all the programes ( htc sync SDK , drivers , ) and tried allot of programs like the DOOM ROOT v2 , v4 but didnt work for me so after a bit of research i found another programe for my version with 3 step of rebooting anyway it didnt work
after all that i found a program : HTC quick root 1.13 that can root the device even if it is s on so i tried to root with the prog he took me into a green screen with the logo of the phone is it the recovery ? after that i see my phone in a logo with a red triangle /\! with an exclamation marque. so i waited after that i took of the battery and turn on again it boots gr8 but trying a second time with the programe it says the frimware has been already patched and cant continue to root .
So i was thinking how can i fix my Recovery and turn off the S ( Soff ) like that i use the second option of the prograne to root any idea guys ?
thank you for helping me

Hello,
You should know that what you're doing is risky and I can't take any responsibility if anything you try goes wrong.
The easiest way to root a phone is by installing a Custom ROM. If you don't
Since you have already unlocked the boot loader, it is now time to install a new recovery.
I use CWM (Can't post URL, but google Clockworkmod recovery. It was the second hit when I tried). Download the recovery image for the phone and flash it by:
Turn phone off
Turn phone on whilst holding the 'vol down' button
You are now in fastboot. When plugging in a USB cable to your computer, the phone should say 'fastboot USB'
On your PC, open a terminal and execute adb flash recovery <recoveryimgfilename>. You indicated that you already have installed the SDK, so adb should be on your system, but you might have to change to the right directory
Choose 'recovery' on the phone. Selecting this can be done using the vol up/vol down and power buttons
If you can see the clockworkmod recovery, you're now one step closer to rooting.
Turn phone off, take out SD card.
Copy a Cyanogenmod ROM (or any other rooted ROM that you wish) to the SD card
Boot the phone back into recovery
flash the cyanogenmod image
done
thank you i will try this out ... and i found on xda a post how to do it on the same phone and same version of hboot and son and radio chek this out and tell me what do u think about it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1693896

okay thank you mate for cheking for me i will keep u updated
What exactly are you trying to do?
I know you want root, but why is that precisely? It won't do you much good unless you know what to do with it.
On the contrary: It is a bit of a security risk, as is unlocking the bootloader, as is S-OFF, if you don't really need it.
The reason I'm asking is because if there is no custom ROM for your phone and you're not a command line guru looking to tinker with the software then I don't really see the point

Hi everyone, i got an issue with my cel phone, i update it with the RUU_EVITA_UL_JB_45_S_Cingular_US_3.18.502.6_Radio_0.24p.32.09.06_10.130.32.34 and after that my phone starts in a boot loop , the AT&T logo appears but then restarts again ,and again ,etc.-
I tried to conect it to the Pc so i can put another RUU Rom ,but computer cant install the drivers so is not recognize .-
The phone is not unlock
Please i dont know what to do , i tried a lot of thing like fastboot rebot, recovery, etc but nothing seems to work , if anyone can help me i will be gratefull
thanks
try a factory reset from recovery hold the power button and volume down till the lights at the bottom start blinking when the phone shuts off keep holding the volume button and let go of the power button this should get you into bootloader then select recovery from there
So the phone is stock (not rooted, never bootloader unlocked)?
If the drivers aren't correctly installed, the RUU is never going to run. I think that is the main problem. Find the latest drivers (HTC Sync), reboot the computer, make sure you have admin rights, etc. Also try a different USB port, or try another computer, if possible.

RUU doesn't care about recovery, it re-installs stock recovery automatically.
Well i made what you told me , first i tried to put the same RUU and it flashed it but issue remains , so i tried to put an older RUU ( downgrade it ) process starts but suddenly stopt with 140 error : bootloader version error .-
I don´t know wich version i can istall if process show me that error .-Or which RUU version can put on it
my cel phone
EVITA PVT SHIP´S-ON RL
HBOOT-2.14.0000
RADIO-0.24p.32.09.06
oPEN dsp-V34.1.0.45.1219
Emmc-boot
You can't use a previous RUU if the hboot is older. So that error is normal and expected.
You will need to run the 3.18 RUU. Try to download it again. Might just be a bad download.

Well i finally solve the problem ,after updating with the same RUU many times ,what i do ( don´t know how it works) i flash recovery, when the screen show the red triangle with the exclamation sign , i push power button for about 10 sec ,and the cel phone restarts ok.-
Now i want to know what can ido with this RUU,im afraid if i restar the cel againg the same thing is going to happend .-
I tried to rooted but no succes
I got a doubt what should i do first ?? unlock bootloder or root the phone first ??
thanks
First thing you need to do is read the stickies in this q&a section. Then read stickies in android development section. Then if you have questions, ask. If you just ran the 3.18 ruu though, you're sol, no root/bootloader unlocking possible.

Its not clear from your posts whether the phone was actually updated to 3.18 firmware or not. But the hboot has at least been updated to 2.14.
If the phone is on 3.18 firmware, you can't unlock the bootloader and you can't root.
Well thanks for all the answers , but sorry to say, i continue with the loops anda suddenly the phone starst fine, but when in rebbot it for some reason keep on with the loop issue.-
Instead of that i notice a strange thing happend , as i told , got wifi problems on this model , but as shown in the picture above , i pull out the micro sim,so no mobile data, data conection or network operator set and im connect to my wifi network , thats is strange ,if i put the sim ,the cel phone automatically set the network operator ,and if i set the APN , wifi signal desapears and beggin the known issue for this model on wifi signal and connections .-
Any idea of wath can be ??
Thanks
if you can get your phone to boot and stay booted for atleast 30 minutes. could you install and run this app. eMMC Brickbug Check it will check if the phones memory is good. i havent heard of any bad emmc on evita but maybe you have one, since you seem to be having a similar problem to what i had on an htc ace. also you could reboot into stock recovery and do a factory reset or clear cache, see if you get any errors i got emmc errors on my ace before the partitions finally decided to crap out. you could go through the unbrick thread to repair partitions before the die completely, my theory was doing a similar thing to this ace to repair it.
big problem
I just unlocked my bootloader and rooted my phone, everything went fine. i then tried to flash a custom ROM. Thats where it went really bad. It went into a bootloop. I was able to get it back to bootloader mode and then recovery, so i tried to flash the ROM again, same result. I now have no way to transfer a new ROM over to my SD card and attempts to flash this ROM i downloaded through fastboot have all failed. I dont know what to do at this point, please help.
You haven't given enough information. What are your bootloader details? What recovery and version are you using? Which ROM did you flash? Did you do a factory reset from bootloader?

If s-on, do you realize that you need to flash boot.img seperately using fastboot (for any hboot 1.14 or higher)? This is the most common reason for bootloops when flashing a ROM on this device.
