htc one x at&t boot loop - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hi everyone, i got an issue with my cel phone, i update it with the RUU_EVITA_UL_JB_45_S_Cingular_US_3.18.502.6_Radio_0.24p.32.09.06_10.130.32.34 and after that my phone starts in a boot loop , the AT&T logo appears but then restarts again ,and again ,etc.-
I tried to conect it to the Pc so i can put another RUU Rom ,but computer cant install the drivers so is not recognize .-
The phone is not unlock
Please i dont know what to do , i tried a lot of thing like fastboot rebot, recovery, etc but nothing seems to work , if anyone can help me i will be gratefull
thanks

try a factory reset from recovery hold the power button and volume down till the lights at the bottom start blinking when the phone shuts off keep holding the volume button and let go of the power button this should get you into bootloader then select recovery from there

So the phone is stock (not rooted, never bootloader unlocked)?
If the drivers aren't correctly installed, the RUU is never going to run. I think that is the main problem. Find the latest drivers (HTC Sync), reboot the computer, make sure you have admin rights, etc. Also try a different USB port, or try another computer, if possible.

RUU doesn't care about recovery, it re-installs stock recovery automatically.

Well i made what you told me , first i tried to put the same RUU and it flashed it but issue remains , so i tried to put an older RUU ( downgrade it ) process starts but suddenly stopt with 140 error : bootloader version error .-
I don´t know wich version i can istall if process show me that error .-Or which RUU version can put on it

You can't use a previous RUU if the hboot is older. So that error is normal and expected.
You will need to run the 3.18 RUU. Try to download it again. Might just be a bad download.

i already download from htc site and the same happend

Well i finally solve the problem ,after updating with the same RUU many times ,what i do ( don´t know how it works) i flash recovery, when the screen show the red triangle with the exclamation sign , i push power button for about 10 sec ,and the cel phone restarts ok.-
Now i want to know what can ido with this RUU,im afraid if i restar the cel againg the same thing is going to happend .-
I tried to rooted but no succes
I got a doubt what should i do first ?? unlock bootloder or root the phone first ??
thanks

First thing you need to do is read the stickies in this q&a section. Then read stickies in android development section. Then if you have questions, ask. If you just ran the 3.18 ruu though, you're sol, no root/bootloader unlocking possible.

Its not clear from your posts whether the phone was actually updated to 3.18 firmware or not. But the hboot has at least been updated to 2.14.
If the phone is on 3.18 firmware, you can't unlock the bootloader and you can't root.

Well thanks for all the answers , but sorry to say, i continue with the loops anda suddenly the phone starst fine, but when in rebbot it for some reason keep on with the loop issue.-
Instead of that i notice a strange thing happend , as i told , got wifi problems on this model , but as shown in the picture above , i pull out the micro sim,so no mobile data, data conection or network operator set and im connect to my wifi network , thats is strange ,if i put the sim ,the cel phone automatically set the network operator ,and if i set the APN , wifi signal desapears and beggin the known issue for this model on wifi signal and connections .-
Any idea of wath can be ??
Thanks

if you can get your phone to boot and stay booted for atleast 30 minutes. could you install and run this app. eMMC Brickbug Check it will check if the phones memory is good. i havent heard of any bad emmc on evita but maybe you have one, since you seem to be having a similar problem to what i had on an htc ace. also you could reboot into stock recovery and do a factory reset or clear cache, see if you get any errors i got emmc errors on my ace before the partitions finally decided to crap out. you could go through the unbrick thread to repair partitions before the die completely, my theory was doing a similar thing to this ace to repair it.

big problem
I just unlocked my bootloader and rooted my phone, everything went fine. i then tried to flash a custom ROM. Thats where it went really bad. It went into a bootloop. I was able to get it back to bootloader mode and then recovery, so i tried to flash the ROM again, same result. I now have no way to transfer a new ROM over to my SD card and attempts to flash this ROM i downloaded through fastboot have all failed. I dont know what to do at this point, please help.

You haven't given enough information. What are your bootloader details? What recovery and version are you using? Which ROM did you flash? Did you do a factory reset from bootloader?

If s-on, do you realize that you need to flash boot.img seperately using fastboot (for any hboot 1.14 or higher)? This is the most common reason for bootloops when flashing a ROM on this device.

I would personally run the ruu, to fully wipe and start from scratch. You never know what the previous owner did or did not do. If that doesn't help then I would say the phone does have an issue

If you're getting that message, then you are trying to install an RUU that is older than the version reported by the phone. Try using the RUU just recently released for GB:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1191959
Use the PD98IMG.zip linked at the bottom of the first post and try it exactly as you did above. If it still fails, then the device has likely been rooted in the past and used a DHD ROM with a later version number, then returned to S-ON. You'll need to re-root in this case. Use the Ace Hack Kit. It should still work even if your version is messed up since the first step is to "fake" and older version code:

Gene suggested that maybe the volume button might be stuck and that's what is causing the safemode

and run it with your phone plugged in your pc, it should do a stock recovery on your phone.
I faced the same issue with another ROM.
The only way I found to reboot was to reinstall the firmware while connected via USB with the PC.
And after that, I reinstalled the ROM.
I couldnt even boot.

Okay, first off stop digging up multiple 1 and 2 year old threads to post about your problem.
Second, be MUCH more specific about what the issue is. What happened before it stopped booting? Was it dropped or something or was it working fine?
Is it rooted?
Is it S-Off?

Sorry about that.
Here are the full details:
I have a Sensation XE, it was running ARHD 7.2, rooted, Bootloader Unlocked, S-OFF
I was playing subway surfers when all of a sudden the phone froze, no buttons nothing worked. After a while it itself restarted and got stuck on the white HTC boot screen. When it didnt progress for some minutes, I removed the battery, reinserted it and tried turning it on. But nothing, no signs of life were shown. Even on connecting the wall charger there was no charging LED.
Only thing is that windows can detect it as QHSUSB_DLOAD or something.
I checked out the Unbricking Sensation forum at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1522351
but they say it works only for devices bricked while turning to S-ON, but as I mentioned mine is S-OFF. So, can I still use their method or is there some alternative?
Thanks

Is the battery charging when you connect it to USB like that? If so I'd say to try an ruu to return it to completely stock. You will lose all user data on the internal memory when doing this. And it will return the phone to s-on and stock ROM. You will have to start over.
Do a search for ruu and you should find the thread that walks you through the process. Its really easy. You basically just run an .exe file from windows and it does everything else.

No, the charging LED doesnt glow.
Phone is detected on USB connection after i remove the battery. And moreover windows doesnt detect it as a phone i think.
PS: Losing data, S-OFF, ROM is not a concern. I just want it working, bought it just 6 months ago :crying:

Do you have access to another battery just to make sure your battery isn't fried? If there is physical damage to the battery it will neither charge nor will it power on.
Also, try doing the ruu thing anyway. Worst its going to do is not work.

Hi there!
Even my device is facing similar sort of problems. Although the situation is not as bad as the op,but still the phone is still just a paperweight.
Now what I did- unlocked bootloader via HTC dev site( HBOOT Ver 1.27)
Decided to S-off by J.Bear method.
Everyhting went fine untill the phone restarted. Controlbear no longer recognised the device. It said check your drivers.
That was the time when everything messed up.
Now the phone would no longer boot ahead of the white HTC bootscreen. And sometimes it even powers on directly to recovery(even when i'm not pressing volume down).
And one more strange thing happening.."adb devices" command doesn't show any devices listed although i can check the firmware and cid version(via fastboot command). And the device is showing up in device manager(my HTC). But adb commands are not working.
Am i missing something?
Any help would be much appreciated.

probably your hboot get locked after S-OFF.that's why adb commands don't work(i think)
check your bootloader details
if now you have S-OFF and locked hboot flash 3.33 universal from here

it will give you also patched hboot which is unlocked
follow the instructions to the letter(important)
and before flashing check md5 sums(important)

[Q] Phone won't boot into recovery, please help

Hi. This is the first time I've tried to install custom rom's on my phone so bear with me. I followed a post (since I can't post links yet just google: CyanogenMod 9 (CM9) for HTC One X is Here. It's the first link) detailing how to install CM9 on the OneX. Everything worked up until step 16 where you have to boot into recovery mode. When I select recovery mode from the bootloader, the phone just tries to restart and gets stuck at the HTC loading screen with a message underneath saying that this ROM is not official etc.
Is there an easy way to try and fix this and make it work properly? I've tried erasing the fastboot cache and that didn't make a difference. At this point I don't really care if I have to erase everything and just go back to what I had before. The phone doesn't show up as a drive on the PC when I plug it in.
Any help would be great!
SOLUTION: Ok this is what I did to get it working again. My phone is on Rogers so I had to download this RUU and then follow these steps to flash the RUU onto the phone. Pretty simple actually.
Well, I can tell you that the ROM you were trying to flash was not for the S4 variant of the HTC One X, the ROM you saw was for the international Tegra 3 chip which is VERY different. I would attempt to flash an RUU from the At&T HOX thread if that is possible. Sorry if I can't be of any more help, that's all I've got.
I just had this exact same problem on mine. Well I didn't try to install a full rom, but accidently tried to apply the mod where you remove the menu bar and remap the keys that was for the HTC One X (Internation/Tegra3) to my HTC One X (AT&T) and what happened was it would freeze at the HTC One Beats Audio screen and not do anything. Tried going to Recovery as well and nothing. So I thought. What I had to do was unplug my phone from USB, hold down power for about 7 seconds until screen goes black, immediately after screen goes black, release power button and start to hold down volume down button, this should get you to the Recovery menu. From here what you will need to do is go into FlashBoot, and then from ur PC (or mac... hopefully PC though) you need to relock your BootLoader, and get stock recovery (if you changed it). After this reboot and then go back into Recovery, FastBoot, and connect to PC. Now download the AT&T RUU (i used the newest, 1.85) and run through those steps. After this is finished phone should boot fine and your expensive device is saved.
Oh by the way, I'm an evolving Noob. Just started to do anything ...interesting... with my phone today, crap went down, and using these steps I was able to fix it, so if I am off on some of my steps or unclear, just comment please and I'll try and correct myself or giver farther details on what I did.
-Good Luck
Thanks for the replies but I think my situation is further complicated by the fact that my phone is a Rogers phone. I know the RUU is 1.73.631.1 but I don't know if a stock recovery is available for Rogers yet. It sounds like all I have to do is find the correct RUU and flash it to the phone.
TrueLandon, you said after you held the power button down for 7 seconds you could put the phone into recovery mode. Would that be the same thing as the bootloader menu (where you can select fastboot, factory reset etc)?

Yes, sorry if I were unclear, still trying to learn the lingo and technical terms , and yea, that's what you would need then is the RUU for Rogers, but I think the other steps should work for you.

The facepalm is significant and this makes me wish HTC forced carriers to label the S4 One X as the One XL.
If your bootloader was unlocked, lock the bootloader and run the RUU from fastboot.
Thanks for the replies guys. Truelandon sent me the RUU that I need for my phone but there's no .exe file in it. I was just wondering if I can somehow use these files and flash my phone with this RUU. Most of the files that I ended up downloading are disk image files.
Addition to the issue
I flashed a cm9 rom on my hox (international version). Its working fine but the only issue is that i want to install black and cyan theme to it and when i try to flash it and the moment i hit recovery in boot loader my phone restarts and comes back normal.so i can't enter cwm to flash the theme.

The only thing I would suggest is to reflash your cwm and see if it helps.

[Q] cant get RUU to work

i've been trying for the past two days to get my one s back to stock because after flashing cm10.1 the touch screen stopped working. nandroid backups don't work and for some reason, the ruu wont boot up. there are no errors, it just stops after preparing the install wizard screen. sometimes it'll say install failed, reinstall with recommended settings, but it still never makes it the the actual htc updating part. i've deleted temp folders and cache and whatever else i could get my hands on and no luck. anyone else have this problem? i cant find a solution anywhere.
thanks in advance

still s-on and did change my cid. i've been trying to find a way to change those over fastboot, but no luck. and i know i have to relock it and run the ruu thru fastboot, i did that a few days ago when i first started tinkering. the problem is that the ruu.exe wont run and i cant figure out why. like i said, it'll launch and run the preparing installwizard, but when that parts done it just completely stops. no errors, no next screen, nothing.
/edit - i meant i didn't change my cid. every article i read about modding and flashing new roms, not one said that s-off was all but necessary or you're gonna be super screwed if you slip up a little bit. shoulda checked that a little more thoroughly.
/update - so it's all back to stock rom thanks to a nandroid dump i found. the only issue now is i'm trying to flash an ruu to completely restock the device and i'm coming thru with error after problem after nonsense.
starting with fastboot. when i got to lock the bootloader back up to run the hboot it gets an error - FAILED (status read failed (Too many links)). boot back into fastboot to run the ruu and the program doesnt recognize my phone and doesn't even get past the preparing install screen. so i relock the bootloader and go into a bootloop. backup from cwm and start over, quite possible with a reversed x axis touch screen.
when i connect to the pc, ruu doesn't run when connected in charge only mode. when connected as mass storage i get a disk read error and windows checks for errors (never finds anything, but each time i connect, it asks). just ran ruu and it recognized the phone, went all the way to the sending part of updater and then stopped responding, leaving my phone on the black htc update screen (that was the most successful ive been so far)
many other times i'll get multiple different errors that i haven't been able to recreate now that im trying to type them out, but they're all errors involving my data or sdcard. i belive one was unable to write to ruu_log. i'll try to recreate and be more specific.
Here is how I always got the RUU runnin:
- Flash stock recovery
- Relock bootloader
- Boot into bootloader (NOT fastboot mode, just bootloader)
- Connect device to the PC
- Run the RUU as an admin

Please Help !. HTC One Mini stuck in BOOTLOADER Menu

My HTC One mini swtiched off a couple of days ago and since then only load to bootloader menu no matter what I click or do. It goes also automatically to this screen as soon as I plug it with the charger even if did not press the on/off key.
I tried to unlock the bootloader according to the instructions on HTCDev.com site. Everythings work till the last step, as no menu appear on my phone asking me if I want to unlock the bootloader or not.
I also tried to use RUU to install a new Firmware. The phone showes a black screen for a couple of seconds and then restart again to bootloader screen. I got an error afterwards.
The phone was running on a stock firmware, no root, no custom recovery, or any other thing.
Can anyone help me to solve this problem. It seems my phone has no OS or something like that.
PLEASE HELP

I seem to be in the same situations... although I got to it in a different way. Where did you download the RUU from? is it version-main: 4.14.401.2 or higher?
Try: rootwiki dot net and search for htc one mini bootlocker unlock....this helped me to UNLOCK and put TWRP recovery on it... maybe it gets you a step closer.
