This is my 1st android phone and I'd like to root it to remove alot of the t-mobile apps. I haven't found how to root the GX2 on a Mac - and I dont have access to a PC. Anyone find a way? Also with Gingerbread coming somewhat soon - would I need to restore to stock when that update comes?

It's so easy on the mac. To root follow the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1048309
When the GB update comes, you can apply the OTA update but you will lose root if you go that way. If you don't go that way, you'll just have to wait a few days before someone gets a pre-rooted zip of the GB update you can flash through recovery.
**EDIT**
Be careful what you remove. I recommend using Titanium Backup to freeze the bloatware. That way it doesn't appear in your app drawer and won't be running in the background.
Could someone explain to me how the whole unrooting process works, I am rooted right now but I want to know how/what will happen if I unroot my A2 to give to someone else (who isnt into custom ROMs and everything :laugh I rooted with a windows batch file called root, should i just run the unroot file to unroot? Thanks for the help
You can flash a file to unroot, if I remember correctly, but the easiest way that I've found is to download an app call SuperSU from the market (the free version works fine). There's an option in that to unroot your phone...it deletes itself and the regular superuser.apk, busybox, etc.

If you used the "one click root" method for Windows, there should be in the root folder both "click to root" and "click to un-root" .bat files. Just click to un-root and you'll be all set. The best advice I could give, if you're planning on giving the phone to someone else, would be to FXZ back to stock 2.3.5. then OTA update to 2.3.6. This will wipe everything on your phone, making it totally 'factory stock' like you got it when you unboxed it for the first time. So, when/if you give the phone to someone else, they can set it up with their own Google account, along with any others, and none of your account info will be within the phone!

^I second this. If you plan to unroot and give it to a friend or sending it in for repairs or something, flash the fxz. Otherwise, just delete /system/app/Superuser.apk and /system/bin/su and /system/xbin/su (that's basically what the click-to-unroot.bat does).
Thanks guys
So,.... messing about as we do, trying to get an app to work that wont work on rooted device, I installed voodoo to temporarily hide my root and it seemed to work.
but now I cant regain root access. 1: Not sure if voodoo is the issue
2: tried all fixes that I could find on here and nothing working for me
Not really an issue at the mo and I'm sure theres a work around but this is quick fix / quick question
Can I just Flash a new custom rom without root access?
I was going to try a different rom anyway. and don't mind losing data, apps etc
just need to know that I can flash without root and not going to get stuck somewhere
Cheers

No you cant you will struck at Samsung logo
Any other views on this?
Is there not an option in Voodoo where you can hit "Restore Root" ?
Yes there is a re-root option in voodoo but this clicking this doesn't give me back root.. Titanium backup tells me I don't have root, as does a root checker basic app i have, tells me I do not have proper root access
Is the SuperSU/Superuser app still installed? If not reinstall it and reboot. Try that.
Hello,
I have checked similar topics but did not find correct answers for me.
I would like advice what are my options if I want to save contacts on SIM cards by default. I'm not google fan, so please do not advice me to use that.
I have rooted Gigabyte Gsmart GX 2 with Xposed framework, removed all Google bloatware from my device (including play store and gmail).
Now I have only option to save contacts to phone only. Even when I do that I can't export them to sim cards, tried apps like SIM manager etc. but those apps just don't see my contact in phone.
I would like to save business contacts on sim card I got from my employer and easily return them with the SIM in case i quit.
And my personal contacts on my own SIM card.
Is there any app for that? Most apps are not for dual sim which is problem for me. Best solution would be dual sim dialer with possibility to save contacts directly to SIM cards. I would even pay for such an app
My old phone Prestigio 4055 with Xperia ROM from 4PDA with android 4.1 has no problem with this. Could I somehow remake android 4.1 apps to work on 4.4 ?
Also another thing which 4.4 lacks is security when connecting device to PC, it simply connects but my 4.1 device gives me 4 options how I want to connect it, until I choose one, my pc can't access it.
And I'm also looking for list of 4.4 system apps safe to remove, especially those cloud offering bloatware.
What other options do I have? Is it possible to downgrade to 4.1 android? I contacted support and they informed me, they are not planning to make lolipop for this phone. I know that in lolipop you can save those damn contacts on sim Is it possible to cook my own ROM that would meet these criteria? How difficult it would be?
Thanks in advance for positive answers
Puffy
That, that you described is what I did and result is a faulty rooting access. I dont know what else to do. Anybody? Ideas please??
Rooted but faulty.
Hello again.
In my desperation to get my phone properly rooted Im going to start over with my case. I'll explain it out in detail:
After reading many many threads about rooting my fierce2. I decided to give a chance to the longer method of rooting ( kingroot4.4, antutu, cpu benchmarck, geek benchmark, speedtest). After a few trays I got success!!!!!!!!!! (I tried kingroot and antutu only but after several trays I gave up). I was sooooo happy I got kingroot confirmation of root access!!!!!!!:silly::silly:.
But my happiness whent down the toilet as soon as I check with rootcheker . It said tha the root access wasnt right?????.
I'm very frustrated and annoyed. I cant use supersu or any other root tool to remove apps....
I tried unroot but wont work and everytime I install kingroot to root the phone again I cant because kingroot detects my phone as rooted but is not really....
Help please plase please. Here are the snapshots

try some apps like titanium backup which need root access if are able to uninstall pre installed apps with the help of titanium back up then it is sure that your phone is rooted maybe root checkers are not able to detect or still u face a problem open that super user app go to its setting pannel scrool down you will find a option of full unroot use that to unroot it and then again try to root your phone
hmm
I have found it is not android 4.4.2 as u guys here claim that makes you unable to save contacts to sim card anymore...
Prestigio MultiPhone 5455 DUO is also running android 4.4.2 and there are 4 options when i click save new contact> sim1, sim2, phone, google account
I downloaded 5455 rom and my question is, which file i must transfer to my phone to have these options available in dumb GSmart GX2 ?
huh
nobody knows? what criteria must i meet? I get com.android.phone error when i transfer some files like telephony provider, dialer etc..
why is that? is it even possible to transfer android system files and apps between 2 phones with same android version but different manufacter?

Framaroot doesn't work on every device. Stop posting the method that you used for your device everywhere. Don't make posts for devices that you don't have unless you have links or evidence to backup what you are posting.

Thank you for you work on this,
You guys made this very easy with that .bat file....Having never used Odin, I made a few mistakes but I figured it out and it was easy enough to start the process over and try again no harm done.
One question , You said to get Root to Flash Eng Boot Image, where can I find this and will it wipe the OS again?
Sorry if this is a newb question, but last phone I rooted was my S4 , its been awhile and alot has changed.
Thank You!

UPDATE:It works after adding network access point manually.:silly:
USB tether, does it bypass Verizon 15GB data cap?
I'm about to install this shortly, after making backups. I didn't see any mentions of what is debloated. Is this a debloated ROM?
Wow! That was the simplest ROM to install. I'm still restoring a bit of app data, but so far so good!
I have a half day of use on this ROM and I'm impressed. I rooted it, debloated a couple more things, then unrooted. I did have to use the Odin method to unroot, but that only took a minute. After unroot, it immediately passed Safetynet. I love having the ability to root, modify, then unroot pretty much on the fly. You are top notch @jrkruse
now when i go into gallery i can't view pictures by album only by date
^^^ I have the same issue. Then again, I had that issue on QF2 after a gallery update a couple weeks back. I think it stems from using the S8 gallery. I think I'm going to try pushing the S7 gallery and seeing if that fixes it.

Just unneeded Knox. Some is needed for samsung pay. And some other junk but full integrity of rom should be intact
Awesome script..saved me a lot of legwork for my G930V
when install AP AND BL how to connect in adb for install second process i need help instruction because refused
I'm failing SafetyNet now. I think I know where it stems from. I updated the superuser binary at one point and that is most likely the trigger. Is there anyway to remove the latest binary or should I just reflash the ROM?
Edit: I was right. I went into SuperSU and chose the uninstall for reinstall via Playstore option, then reinstalled SuperSU but did not update the binary. I flashed BL_2 and now I pass SafetyNet.
Is there anyway I can root...make a modification for louder volume and then unroot...I have tried the regular mixer path file mod and it didn't do anything in other roms...anythingood I can flashed or doessays anyone know the correct modifications???
