No.This says "Cars can't jump on trains"
And LG don't say "smartphones can't shoot auroras"
Actual UHD shooting

Pretty sure the G Pro 2 has the same camera as the G2, with the only difference being software(and the ability to record in 4K, which the G2 may or may not be capable of).

G2 hardware wise is completely capable. We could also do slow motion 120fps with the snap800. But nobody has added that in yet - and its doubtful that we will see it until someone ports g2 pros software features.

4k recording on Lollipop

Hey all, I haven't heard much about camera specs in all the excitement about Lollipop and now PA on the G3, I am on CM12 now and loving it but I miss having 4k recording on the camera... Any way to bring this back? Maybe a camera app port? [emoji1]
That is the only reason I went back to a stock based ROM. Love my camera.
I know this is something we can do... We have some great developers here... WINK WINK!... That is the only only thing it is missing. I'm going to try some build.prop edits to see if it will work, but I doubt it.

Agreed, CloudyG3 is great. It's my go to ROM unless I'm on CM12, I had to flash back today because I'm having WiFi issues on CM.
Aosp ROMs always have bad cameras they use googles **** camera

I have had many phones...Nexus, Touchwiz, Sense, and now the G3...it cannot be done.
But the ability to record 4k is in the hardware, right? If it were strictly a software up conversion then yes it would be an issue, but if it is native to the camera hardware it seems like the camera app would just need to have the support for that feature of the sensor...
I sorta think its silly to record in 4k without even having a 4k TV to play it against. I honestly can't justify it, so I'll stick with the pros of having cm12 instead. Fwiw the Google camera isn't all that bad really. If I need pro photos, that's what my Sony nex is for.

But we do all own a phone that plays 4k... And if you down sample to 1080p it retains a lot of sharpness and clarity not possible from strait 1080p recording.

This is the thing right here. I want to be able to record in 4k so that I can downsample/crop/frame a 1080p edit of that footage with amazing clarity and control.
I desperately want to be able to do this on AOSP on the G3, but the going, thus far, is slow.
Recently YouTube brought back 4k playback. Check out the GoPro channel. Sweet stuff. They need an LG G3 channel...
I don't think the quality in stock vs Google camera can ever be matched sadly.

Stock camera is ages ahead of the CM Camera (Googles), there is just no comparison, once you look at the photos on a big screen you notice the lower quality on the Google camera photos., also with CM you will loose:
Laser Focus, 4K video recording and Slow Motion
If your recording in 4k only to convert to 1080 because it looks better it's because your editing software isn't doing it's job. I've tried it both ways and get the same results. And yes unless you're filming for a professional job that will use cinema standards or own a 4k TV recording in 4k just takes up too much space for no reason. I also recommend waiting quite a few years before attempting to get a useless UHD TV.

I agree, I'd love to see stock quality with an app. It's one of my only complaints with aosp.

BAd camera tried it
I have 3 camera installed...
1) google camera - for photosphere and panorama, everything else about it is subpar in my humble opinion...
2) built in rom camera - use it b/c it does everything (decent)
3) dslr camera pro - playstore ($2.99) awesome options/settings for crisp still (only takes pix, no video)
* Patiently waiting for someone to PLEASE port LG G3 camera to AOSP... Someone PLEASE port that bad boy!!

Ok that Lenovo Super Camera is pretty slick. Has some pretty cool features, just have to learn them. Doesnt have 4k video recording and a couple feature do crash the app but still...
Im using Cyanogen camera (from Oneplus One). Its almost as good as stock LG. I would be ok using Google cam IF IT COULD SAVE TO F**** SD CARD!
Look in the general android apps section on XDA and flash the motorola camera
Never had the Cannot connect to camera since and it is as good as stock except no 4k camera
None of these work arounds support 4k recording either.
Whats the point of having such a great camera/video when it cant do either via a stock rom.
Ill always be using stock based roms till that gets sorted.

By the way, the G3 does not record 4k. 4k is Ultra HD (3840 x 2160). The G3 is Quad HD (2560 x 1440). Just FYI

Just so you know. LG G3's display is 2K . LG G3 can record in 4K resolution. ).
ummm ^^ on aosp we are already using stock LG drivers is the camera app that doesn't work the best with the drivers.. that's because LG drivers are closed sources and can't be modified.. so until devs will port stock G3 camera app... all the camera apps will not work correctly in quality of pictures... but till now the best for me is google camera from playstore https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.GoogleCamera

just to Help him on explain LG G3 is 2K that means 4 times 1280x720p and twice 1920x1080 that means 2560x1440 that is called usually QHD (quad HD = 4 x 720p) so.. yeah twice of a QHD is the 4K UHD (Ultra HD = 3840x2160) so.. in less words we have a 2K screen and a 4K capable camera

[Q] Camera API

Upon, doing a bit of research, the imaging sensor on the Flex2 looks to be an older Sony IMX-135, this camera is in use on the Galaxy S4 and Im seeing varying degrees of certainty on whether or not the Camera2 API will fully work on the GS4. anybody with a flex2 mind running the manual camera compatibility test?
Flex 2 does not support the new camera API stuffs. Thanks to @wolfgart for confirming.

Very bad to hear that LG don't support row mode as you have discovered.
LG : if you are reading here, check your lags on the UI.
I want to say also that is not acceptable to have lags on this UI ( i have F510K variant ) we have DDR4 modules !!!!

I don't think so.
Actually I have built some application with camera2.0 api base on TestingCamera2 to capture SENSOR_RAW data.
what is the manual camera compatibility test? does it mean CTS for camera2.0?

It is an app on the play store.
Contrary to what wolfgart and autoprime say, running the compatibility test checks as 100% compatible with camera2 api. I have not downloaded yet, because my phone is one of the lemons with weird pink squares all over my screen. Swapping in Monday.
I can also confirm the lg g flex 2 is showing as camera2 api compatible...
Ive got the Unlocked Euro version.

G Pro 2 vs G3 camera

I have search alot for an comparison between G Pro 2 and G3's camera, but havent find anything
Wounder if someone here know if there are any test on the web?
I've had both phones and I prefer the GP2 camera. Actually it was one of the reasons why I stayed on the GP2 and sold the G3. Images are more clear on the GP2 camera, especially in low light conditions, while in day light they look the same. Same thing for the videos.

The lollipop update makes video recording terrible especially in low light and interior conditions it,s grainy when with kitkat was wonderful, moreover the mode live effects is missed.

Ok, strange. An idea then is to skip the update and keep the phone running Kitktat?
Maybe using the Camera FV-5 can fix the solution?
Are the Camera FV-5 compatible with G Pro 2?

Is there any official news?
We've been told that the 6 will receive the same camera features. Hardware is the same for 6 and 6T.
OnePlus 6t also features 480fps at 720p for one minute same as the 6.
960 fps if introduced, will be limited to very short duration but it will still be a fun little addition for this device.
