You don't need to root if you want new ROM, kernel or CWM. But with root you can use for an example Xposed and many other cool things.
I have rooted my every device and I think that you can't do anything without it. But it's your choice.

No, it's not always necessary. For example you can flash this ROM without rooting your phone:

Just root anyways no android is complete without root

You need to use a modified kernel, Stock gingerbread kernel is not rootable doing his modification will screw your video up and you won't have video at all.

Are we waiting on source to drop so kernel can be pulled from it? Or will it still be unrootable then?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium
Sorry but I am too having the above problem. I'm afraid I do not understand about the kernel
Can someone explain? I have been searching for an answer but come up with nothing
Thanks
You would have to flash a rooted kernel with Odin to get root then use the sgs kernel flasher to flash the stock kernel if you want it.

Must be something wrong with the phone Odin said PASS but still does not work
Thanks
im putting all the tools needed together in a single package. soc is a thing of the past... i will need time to test it which means flashing the official firmware and whatever.
once everyone has root, dont ask for cwm... that will seriously put me in a bad mood.

ok, hit my links (on my signature) both will show where to get the tools you need to accomplish your task at hand....there are Odin packages and one click methods to get Rooted ROM stock if that is what you want....or to put CWM on for custom ROMs

Want to upgrade but no computer atm

Hey guys.. I'm currently on 4.4.2 stock rooted with xposed and Franco and would like to upgrade to 4.4.3.
I don't have access to a computer at the moment... So what would be the easiest way or anyway for that matter to upgrade?
Sorry if this a noob question but I am not super android savvy to be honest. Any help would be amazing.
If there was a guide or something to follow for someone in my position....
Thanks for any help

you shouldnt do a single thing, nothing. not until you take some time to educate yourself first. if not, and you start messing around, youre gonna end up with a paperweight. seriously, im not being mean to you, im trying to be helpful. take some time, read about the basics, learn at least just what you need. start here http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...urce-guides-info-threads-linked-read-t2784527

Sorry it auto corrected. Yes you can flash a stick rooted rom. Such as the one from @bigxie that I linked but please try to heed @simms22 words. You always want to know what you are doing before you do it or you risk ending up with a paperweight. If you have this many questions flashing something new can wait until you are comfortable with what you are doing.

[Completed] [Q] Question about Rooting HTC one M8

I am brand new to this forum so sorry if this is in the wrong place. I've had my phone for one year now and was looking to root it to hopefully get further customization out of it. Is it hard to root an android device and is their no true risk involved as long as you follow directions? I found these two videos on these forums and I want them on my phone. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2604245&page=2. http://www.xda-developers.com/true-silent-mode-for-lollipop-xda-xposed-tuesday/. Thanks for the reply, is TowelRoot a "way" to root your deivce? Also what do you mean if you wan to root only? Are their different roots you can do or something?
Edit: Ok I understand what towelroot is as I've used a similar thing on my ipod touch 4g about 6 years ago lol, but is towelroot safe for htc one m8? (i would assume yes) and also do I have to backup my phone before doing this). Thanks again in advance

There are many ways to root.
But best is towel root.
Yes it is safe , make a backup if something goes wrong (that not going to happen)
