[Q] No video? Slim Saber 4.4.2 - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

I can't seem to get YouTube, Netflix or any other videos to play on Slim Saber 4.4.2. It just stays at a loading screen. I'm not getting any errors. Any ideas?

No. They use Silverlight on the desktop and the netflix app does its own decoding on mobile devices.
You should read the slimsaber thread about video issues, it looks like you're not the only one with problems.

Seems like MX player is needed for video playback at this time.

I whacked off the Sepolicy for mediaserver and mfc_device coz I thought the external/sepolicy has included them but I was wrong so (just my guess) that's why media apps get FC tho but not so sure. Anw, I restored those sepolicy locally and built a build with those file for newest Slimsaber tho. @OP: you can test and tell me if it still exist or not. Not so hopefully about the vid playback from Gallery apps but I hope youtube and camera would act normally again.

These problems still exist .

[DEV] Fixing streaming video problems on DHD ports?

As some probably already know some video streams don't work on Desire HD rom ports (this affects all DHD roms ports ), One of them is m.spike.com. We get only audio no video
Here is the log from trying one of the videos
http://pastebin.com/9hK9cDTd
I have tried the most basic and idiotic approach, replacing all called libs with libs from standard Sense Rom. Of course didn't work.
I am not a developer myself, maybe someone with more skills can figure it out

its not just streaming video, mp4 at the native resolution wont work either, so if you record a video at 800x600 you cant watch it back

I am using robis hd rom and rock player does not work for me.
The rom i am using is excellent, fast and stable for me(v14b with d2sd) and everything is working great for me apart from the 720p recording and the sound but no video on various streams. I can live without the former but a solution for the latter would make a great rom perfect for me.
Please try to keep this thread going so we can hopefully get some developers involved and hopefully reach a solution.
I am just a noob i'm afraid so can't be much help!!

rockplayer (premium) works fine for me, it uses its own codecs tho not the native android ones
I've always had an issue with rockplayer being out of sync.
I have an MP4 i did of the mrs when she appeared briefly on question time. (about 20 seconds).
always worked fine on stock roms players but rockplayer it's always oos.
Would be great if devs could sort this for HD roms internal player.

no you cant use rockplayer to strem from websites, flash works fine though i was watching bbc one on bbc iplayer last night.... i miss coreplayer from windows mobile, you could use that and tcpmp as a streaming video players
I've got rockplayer installed but it doesn't show up as an option to view the file when clicking on a streaming video link - i.e you can only watch a video with rockplayer if you open it using the file browser built into rockplayer...

[Q] Youtube and HD playback questions

Had a couple of questions on the Youtube HD playback issues.
1) There is a lag in playing Youtube HD videos in both the app and the browser using Flash. Flash 10.2 with HC 3.1 claims to fix the browser playback issue. Does the Youtube app also use Flash for playback ? Does HC 3.1 fix the app playback issue also ?
2) The YT app has an option called HQ, but doesn't specify if its 480 or 720p. Any idea what resolution it plays the video under HQ option ?
Any takers on this
I like better the mobile site version of YouTube and it plays videos a lot better than the full desktop site version.
Both have lagged for me (the app and the mobile site). I'm pretty sure the YouTube app works without flash installed, so not sure how a flash update will fix it.
I'm going to download the latest Flash when it's released (10.3) and try it out.

That's interesting to me at least. The CNN app plays videos in full screen without lag or chopping frames, while the native Youtube app does lag and they both don't use flash. This makes me skeptical, if 3.1 would fix the issue with the playback lag in the app.

Not really, performance wise. We need honeycomb 3.1 and flash with hardware acceleration!

That's right, the 10.3 can be installed on 3.0.1, but the hardware acceleration stuff is for 3.1+
The other things this update have are security fixes for 3.0+
The 10.3 update seems to pretty much fix my Youtube lag problems. And a lot of the update might be for 3.1, but the release notes indicate it enables hardware acceleration by default on 3.0+ devices. So it should have helped you guys.
Strangely, the choppy playback in the app seems to be a non-issue on the Xoom, even on 3.0.1. So, makes me think what the issue could be on the Transformer
after updating to 10.3 my web flash seems smoother... even at 720p its definately watchable and seems decent... the app seems to still be a bit choppy... maybe not as bad (hard to say)...
Don't know if this has been mentioned yet as a workaround for the youtube app stuttering but it worked for me.
Install Dolphin HD and set the user agent to iPad.
Then when you touch play on a youtube vid choose Dolphin HD again if you get the app menu. DON'T CHOOSE THE YOUTUBE APP.
Dolphin should then load the default media player app and play the mp4 stream off of youtube instead of using Flash. Most HD vids were a lot smoother for me.

I'm working on a review of the Transformer and I emailed my ASUS PR rep.. speaking of Youtube, I asked him about this and his response was:
As for 720P+ fullscreen playback in Flash, this will be fixed in 3.1 as it will allow Hardware Acceleration for Flash, so for once Adobe is waiting on the OS guys to implement something first.

OK I returned my TF at PC Richards today and got a replacement. The speaker volume out of sync is gone in the new piece. The Youtube app playback is also much better in full screen, although it still lags for some videos. Also updated to the firmware .9 and things seem to be smoother. The audio fidelity also seems to have improved surely in this new piece. I'm more happy now

[Q] No video play in browser window (4.4.4-20140724)

Hi,
Last week I installed OMNI 4.4.4-20140724-TF101-HOMEMADE on my TF101.
In the beginning everything appear to be functioning normally and very good. Thanks!
Yesterday I noticed that video's imbedded in a website not play in a window (Standard, Chrome, Dolphin). Audio is playing.
Video and the audio are playing normally after zooming the window to full-screen.
Is this a known bug with this ROM? Maybe something else wrong?
Today I see the new Rom 4.4.4-20140815 is out there.
Is the mentioned problem solved with this new release?
Kind regards,
installed Flash Player ?

[Bug report] HW and HW+ decoder lags on some videos

1. Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 wifi (SM-T520)
2. Android version: Kitkat 4.4.4
3. Official CyanogenMod 11 nightly 11-20141209
4. When I play some videos and using HW and HW+ decoder, I experience video is out of sync. It looks like there's frame dropping. Problem also exists on my Xperia V with latest CM. I use on both devices custom codecs from this forum. While using SW decoder everything is fine.

Yeah, I was constantly having the same bug on my stock Android 5.01 Nexus 7 2013. HW mode is not even available for most of my high quality mkvs, while in HW+ mode playback is choppy. In the end the solution was painful, but simple: I gave up Mx player pro and returned to bs player pro. Playback is a lot smoother now with HW mode in bs player. After more than a year with mx player I must say it's an extremely overrated piece of software with a non-existant price/performance ratio. While I like a lot it when it works, it has too many annoying bugs to recommend it anymore.

I just checked BS Player (free version) and on my Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 it was just as choppy as MX Player. Maybe there's a bug in CM 11?
Did it previously work on older versions of your ROM? If yes, then it's likely a ROM issue.

Yes, I am using stock Android 5.01 ROM with a Nexus 7 2013 WiFi only, 32 GB, rooted with chainfire's autoroot, stock recovery, waited for OTA to arrive, factory reset with clear cache partition after applying the update. Worth mentioning that on KitKat 4.4.4. playback was much more smoother on the same files, with the same settings in MX Player. I only have a few applications, nothing that could conflict with MX Player. Here you will find an example of a file lagging when played. Basically every high quality mkv stutters like hell. If you need a file, I can upload it somewhere.
Thank you for your help!

Is it happens with HW?
If it's so,
Have you tried the same video on Stock Player?
The same should happen with stock player too as HW basically uses android's standard mediaplayer interface.
So, if it stutters on HW, Possibly there might be some issues with in the rom itself.
Have you tried SW decoder?
It might work well since it's based on ffmpeg
HW mode doesn't work at all (mx player says decoder is not supported or something like this), therefore stock player is unable to play it, too. Battery drain is huge with SW mode, what's the purpose of buying applications like MX player that offer accelerated HW decoding then? But just FYI, software mode plays the file flawlessly. The ROM is the purest Android experience one can get right now, so this should not be a problem either. If HW+ mode doesn't work as it should even on stock Android, with developer previews available since months, I don't want to think what will happen with custom ROMs.
We are far away from highly compressed formats like divx, xvid or wmv, high definition content is the present and it seems Mx player with its HW+ decoder can't keep the pace.
I wrote about these problems ever since Android 5 was officially launched a month ago and still no fix was issued.

HW+ uses the same native codecs to decode. Only difference is that H/W uses android media framework and mx player uses its own media framework which itself depends on another android library. So, if any issues on codec configuration will affect both.
MX Player was working well on L preview (except the last one in which google hasn't released the sources).
Do you think your device doesn't has enough power to decode a 720p video natively?. Then, have ever thinked about why your stock player can't play the video?
Just google. MX Payer is not the only product. You will see the very large list of complaints all around the world. You are supposed to blame on Google for the semi baked ROM rather than MX Player.

Thank you for your answer, Ktsamy.
My device is powerful enough to play a 720p video, as in KitKat there were no problems in doing this. I know about the issues mentioned in the link you posted, but they refer to Android 5.0, and as far as I know, this is one of the reasons Google halted 5.0 OTAs, fixed some of the bugs reported by early adopters and then updated most of the devices directly to 5.01. The video issues found in Nexus 7 2013 were supposed to be fixed in 5.01.
So what has to be done? Should we all patiently wait for Google to eventually fix the native android codecs/libraries problems you say they generated in Lollipop? And while we are waiting, applications like MX Player and other similar products are right now useless for the unlucky ones who have Android L installed?
I mean: ok, we do have a problem, but what about everyone (Google, paid app developers) working on a solution instead of blaming each other?

all lollipop devices aren't affected.
Reportedly Google is aware of this issue.
second thing, Since Google is controlling the ROM, app developers can't fix the issue lies on ROM. But, developers can look for temporary workarounds to resolve the issue. But. No guarantee that all bugs will have some workarounds.
Well, stock 5.0 ROM for Nexus devices is fine, so it might just be a recompile or other issue for 5.0.1. @bleu8888 mind taking a look to see if it's just a simple versioning issue with 5.0.1? The updated OTA was released a few days ago for Nexus devices.

CDB-Man, the problem was present on 5.00 as well. I flashed the factory image, posted info about the stuttering in the Android 5 topic, Ktsamy pointed me and others affected by this problem to the same link he provided yesterday. In the mean time Google halted the OTAs for 5.00, fixed some bugs, including the one with the video lag present on the Nexus 7 2013 and directly released OTA 5.01. Unfortunately the stuttering in playing high quality mkvs is still present in MX Player, no matter if the ROM is stock 5.00 or 5.01.

If it's fixed it supposed to playable in H/W decoder or by Stock Video Player. But, none of these are working.
Can you do the following?
Long Press the video, Play using H/W decoder. if it says H/W decoder is not supported or automatically switches to S/W, close the playback. Collect the logs & upload here.
BTW, According to leaks Google is planning for another major update to 5.1 in Feb 15 to address the major bugs exists in lollipop

As I have said already, the issue doesn't appear on all nexus devices. Most of the reports are from Nexus 7.
Thanks again, ktsamy, for your help. I was not very sure about how to collect the log, hope it is okay. It said decoder not supported, then switched to sw.
Same here on stock 5.0.1. But the same player is smooth on 4.4.4. So I guess it's Google's problem.
Ktsamy, have you found the time to check the log I have posted a few days ago?
I have an nvidia shield tablet LTE and can confirm HW+ makes video stutter on my device. Was working perfectly prior to the lollipop update. Hope Google, MX Devs or whoever can resolve the issue. Noticed that SW mode is a HUGE battery drain!
I guess it seems that Google really rushed the release of Lollipop.

I've tried some high resolution videos on Nexus 7 2013 5.0.1 but can't reproduce this issue.
So it looks not like happening with all videos.
So I've tried download one of files having this issue -- The.Secret.Life.of.Walter.Mitty.2013.BluRay.720p.x264.DTS-HDWinG.mkv -- but it is taking forever.
Would someone send download link or torren file having enough seed?

The best way to play youtube in the background?

Hi, sorry if I created this thread not in the right place.
So, what's the best way to play youtube in the background? Already tried the trick with Lucky Patcher, right now I'm using Xposed module but after some listening youtube just crashes...
Lucky patcher custom patch works pretty good. I can't use Xposed since I have Nougat.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-youtube-music-sound-stream-youtubes-t3399722
OGYoutube (Mod of YouTube with background playback and downloading)
There are also other mods such as YouTube adaway with background playback
YMusic (streams only audio)
FlyTube (or any other floating YouTube player)
Using YouTube site in Firefox browser

Make sure to update both lucky patcher and the custom patches. It works very good for me.

OGYoutube isn't supported anymore.
Youtube AdAway doesn't have background playback or did you mean Youtube Background Playback mod, if yes than I already tried that.
YMusic doesn't support playlists right now.
FlyTube I only need audio, so...
Method with Firefox like for me is slow and uncomfortable.

What's the problem with it then? Are you patching the correct version?

Yes, I'm patching the correct version. The thing is, I just start playing a random music playlist and I listen to it while I do other stuff and like after some time, puff and it crashes. I think it might be something with RAM managment actually, on my OPO I have 3GB and still, like Facebook sometimes randomly crashes too, RR3 sometimes says it isn't enough memory to play it.

Let Facebook alone, it crashes to everyone they screwed up pretty bad. Try having a clean install of the ROM , it may help for randomly crashing apps.
