Internal Storage issue - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all, is there a trick to accessing the full amount of storage after several ROM flashes? My p3113 is low on storage, but the numbers just don't add up. The total space says 4.59GB (assuming system eats up the rest of the 8GB) but when I add up the usage stats its only roughly 2.8GB. And it is telling me only 516MB available? Any help would be much appreciated.

Yes, that does look a little off. I would suggest go into TWRP and do a full backup and make sure it's on your sd card. Pull the sd card just to be safe. Wipe the internal memory. Then restore your backup from the sd card. I'm guessing you have some left over crud on the internal from either dirty flashing or an incomplete wipe prior to flashing. This should fix ya.

If Wolf's suggestion doesn't get you the results you want (it should, but if it doesn't)...and you got some free time...odin back to stock and use the .pit for your device to repartition all memory.
<Note3>

Cool, it worked. I used cwm, pulled my SD card, formatted everything I could. I didn't restore the backup as I had just flashed slimkat official when I noticed the memory issue so just wanted to do a clean install. But I have all the memory available now. Thanks for the help. I appreciate your response!

I'm interested in what exactly you formatted mr_cj? I've had exactly the same issue after rooting my GT2 7" and installing the new builds of Slimkat. I guess you can just format/wipe *everything* as long as you've got the SD card out of the device? Is there anything you shouldn't wipe/format in recovery!? Thanks.

Scammor,
First make a backup of your ROM to your sdcard, backup your data ( I use titanium backup) to your SD card. PULL OUT YOUR SDCARD AFTERWARDS. Then using cwm, I did a wipe data/factory reset, then wipe cache partition, then wipe dalvic in advanced, then in mounts and storage I formatted "cache, system, data", and "data and/data/media". That may have been overboard, but it worked. Sorry for the delayed response. Hope it works for you. Good luck!

One question Scammor
Hello Scammor,
I just install cyanogenmod on my tab 2 7.0 and everything perfect but i got the same issue as you did before. When i go into the storage settings i see that my 8gb where not there, instead it said total space 4.59gb and available 1.26gb. I did what you said, using CMW i did a backup on my sd card and then format everything. Then i put my sd card again inside and restore it. Now i have total space of 4.59gb but the available is the 4.18gb instead of the 1.26gb i have before.
Does this happen to you too? or after you did everything you got the 8gb more or less in the total space? Thank you so much for your help!!!!

[Q] Couple questons

I just got the phone. Att version. I had a cappy before and couldn't resist flashing roms on this as soon as i got it. I'm running quikwiz and sometimes the phone doesn't ten on with the power button after a certain while. I can tell the phone is still on but the screen won't show up when i hit the power button. So I always have to restart the phone. (Vol up/power button)
I noticed when i first flashed a rom it gave me a warning. Do the carriers now know how to detect flashed devices?
Last question. My SD card isn't being detected. I'm flashing roms from the internal SD option.
Thanks in advance!

Carriers can tell its rooted if u try to turn it in rooted/ runing custom rom.
There is a flash counter that trips when you flash a custom kernel.
It depends on where you place the roms you want to flash. You most likley thought you were puting them on the external sd but infact put them on the internal. Click menu settings then storage. It will tell you how much free space is on the internal and external sd cards.

So since I've done all that and return to stock and try to return it to them, any chance of them finding out? I don't have an external SD card. When i had my captivate their was no option for internel. In recovery it just said SD card. Now in this phone it says externel SD won't mount and i tried mounting it from recovery it won't mount. The reason I'm asking is because when i downloaded the driver for chain fire it gave the option for recovery. I did it and it said externel SD won't mount. Am i just supposed to to put everything in my internal and flash it from there?

ATT has never seemed to mind my exchanged devices being rooted. They're refurbished anyhow after the exchange.... hope im not pressing my luck though..
Well yeah it wont mount if you did not physically put an external sd card in your phone. And it does not matter where you put your roms. Internal or if you get an external sd
Ok it was just a little different than the recovery on my previous phone so it confused me a little.
Carriers are getting smarter. :/
P.s. anyone know anything about my other screen not turning on problem?

haptic feedback
is it working in this rom??
Yes it is....
.
So far, so good. The only thing I'd rather not see (I'm sure you've probably done this to your other rom?) is all the stock bloat and TW. Just my humble opinion though.
Yeah im going to remove tw launcher.
And bloat in an upcoming update. No eta's
Ill just say soon. All u have to do is delete the twlauncher and what ever bloat u dont want from the rom zip then flash it. In the meantime
Apex launcher is included i just forgot to axe tw before i uploaded
External SD Wiped
Like an idiot, I forgot to remove my MicroSD I wiped and installed the rom and when i went to my TiBu backup folder, my MicroSD is wiped clean.
Just want to give you guys a heads up just in case
Lol same here.

I wonder the same. What is it that causes the card to be wiped? I've never wiped the ext sd unless intentionally formatting, nor have I ever removed it. It's never been an issue before. Why would it be diff't now

Doesn't seem like much of an error to me. Except the fact it skips one of the sd's.
Well, report the results after updating CWM indeed.
But I think you're fine as long as you dont clean your external sd and internal storage (although it might lose it's connections to the apps installed on external SD). Or perhaps make a back-up of them to your PC.
Regards, Drago
That's normal your backup has been made bro.

I hv updated cwm. It's better than previous one, doesn't free the space. It took all the backup bt at last the same output, no sd-ext found.
I tried using both internal n external sd, result is same but I found backup folder in clockworkmod and size almost 1.05GB.
Is it done perfectly???

Does anyone have a 64gb micro sdxc card running on this phone?

I formatted it to fat32 and it still doesn't work. I tried it on different roms and no luck.

I've got several 64GB SanDisk Ultra and I get full capacity. I don't format them on Windows though.

What do you suggest then? I have a windows computer. I tried to format it through the phone but it doesn't recognize it. I'm running DJ's cm10.2 rom.

Personally, I know partitioning with eollie's oneclick works. It's the first one in the second post of my oneclick thread. Also check out lumin30's oneclick guide.
Reboot to recovery, nandroid backup (using an SD card that works) . Put device in download mode and oneclick. Put the SD card in, partition.
At this point I hope you report back
Flash your rom's zip so it's the same version as you backed up with. Same recovery. Nandroid restore your backup.
Worth a shot.

You can also download Ubuntu and run it off a USB stick, without modifying your Windows install.
I will try both suggestions when I have time and will report back. Much appreciated.

Ok I'm trying out the method of running ubuntu from USB which I did. I inserted the card and of course it gave me an exfat error. I go to format and there are fat, ntfs, ext4 and luks + ext4. I don't see fat32 so which one do I choose?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
Well it doesn't matter what I choose it doesn't seem to format the card at all. Do I have to install the whole ubuntu to get all the capabilities? I chose trying out ubuntu option.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
It should work with the "Try Ubuntu" option. Once you launch gnome-disks you should get a window labeled "Disks" with "Devices" in the left column. Select the microSD from there. From the gear in the top right, select "Format"
In the format dialog, you should select "Compatible with all systems and devices (MBR/DOS)" and "quick format" is fine.
Once the new partition table is written from that step, you need to add a FAT / VFAT / FAT32 partition to the disk. As I recall there is either a "+" symbol beneath the "bar graph" under the Volumes label, or there should be one off the gears beneath the bar graph.
If you're still having problems, I'll try to take some screen shots when I get home.
I would surely like screenshots. Take your time cuz i'm in no hurry.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
Once you have gnome-disks running, select the proper drive. From the top-right gear, select "Format..."

Unless you know why you would want something different, you should select "MBR/DOS" (partition table type)
If confident you have the right disk, go ahead.
and you should end up with a disk with an MBR partition table and no partitions
Next, add the partitions you need. Select the free space and click the "+" beneath the map of the partitions
I am setting this one up for Hefe Hook and external data, with a partition for sd-ext and a spare, so I only allocate 54 GB to the FAT partition. If you only need a FAT partition, you can just let it use the entire disk.
After created, you should see it in the partition map. If you used the whole disk, you won't see the "Free Space" section.
If you're adding more partitions, for sd-ext, or other reasons, select the "Free Space" section, then click the "+" again.
Here I'm adding an ext4 partition for "app-to-SD" scripts and other legacy purposes.
Here is the four-partition disk that I am using today.
If you have problems like it not allowing you to convert from GUID to MBR partitioning, the following will wipe the beginning of the disk and generally let you start with partitioning. Insert the right drive letter in place of the # below
Make sure that you select the right drive, as you can wipe your system or any other disk you have with this!
Code:
sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sd# bs=4k count=1k
Success! Thank you for this extensive walk-through. It surely helped me out. I appreciate the time you took to make this.

[QUESTION] Install apps to external SD (ROOT) app? Galaxy ON5 G550t

I want to install ALL of my apps automatically (from Play Store) on to my EXTERNAL SD card without using any kind of adoptive option. I have root. I have a fast external SD card.
What app can I use. Does such an app exist? Have you tried it? Does it work?
Please note that I am aware that I can do this manually with SOME apps. I do not want this. I want them all to go over, and I want it automatic.
This would be such a great phone for the price if they corrected this small SD card issue.
I have been literally trying this all day today as well with no luck, I am not rooted though mind sharing which method you used?
If I ever get it to work ill let you know!

ROOT is pretty basic. Here's a nice step by step guide. (tmob/metro only)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/root-samsung-galaxy-on5-t3435457
I just tried to do the root essentials "install to sd" technique in conjunction with a Titanium Backup restore, and all the apps still installed on the main sd.
I've gotten it to work, after a bit of trial and error. First, make sure you are using this recovery:
Recovery tar :http://www.mediafire.com/?ysugtwzzusxgvw7
Recovery image:http://www.mediafire.com/?tln7q406dmejeq5
Boot into recovery and partition SD Card to 4GB or 6GB as ext4.
The rest of the sd card will be formatted with fat32.
The ext4 will become your "2nd partition".
Download and install Apps2SD Pro.
Go into Partition Tool within the app and you should see fat32 size and ext4 file system according to the size you allocated in recovery.
Select Format from the drop down and re-check the fat32 and ext4 file systems.
It should then prompt you to reboot.
Go back into and select Link apps to SD card, then select Recreate mount script from the left menu...
There are a few other options possibly, but those are the basics... You should now be able to link you apps to the 2nd Partition. Hope this helps!
I'm using 5.25GB out of 8GB internal storage and have several games installed that easily consume over 3GB alone!
