Anyone have issues with their Nexus 5's camera having different colours in the viewfinder?
My room has a reddish/pink tint from the neighbours roof reflecting into my room.

its whatever camera app that you're using, thats not the stock camera app. try using the default camera app.

Isn't that snapchat? Anyways mine is perfect on snapchat

Happens in stock app/Facebook/Instagram/VSCO cam, I just took this particular photo while I was in Snapchat.

Maybe those apps have poor auto-white balance

Front camera issues

The front camera seems to give really grainy pictures along with some color distortion. Are you guys experiencing the same with your front camera?
Me too
I think I am facing a similar issue. Here are some samples from my phone. can you/others upload some samples from their front camera ?
I think it may depend on the lighting in the room I have had perfect pictures and grainy ones with the front camera

Front camera issues?

My front camera low lighting is terrible. My girlfriend with her iphone and me with my hox did hangouts at the same location. Her video feedback looked great a lot of light. Mine was so dark. Can this be fixed through software increasing the exposure?

ProCapture Camera app takes better Pictures

Reading all the reviews the one thing most of them take issue with is the camera on the Moto X. There is something very common between them, the inconsistency from picture to picture. Most say the Moto X is capable of taking good pictures but you need to put up with several bad ones as well. If you take the info from the reviews it's not a "Camera" issue as much as a "Software" issue. The timing of the auto focus to the shutter seems off as well as possibly the color & sharpness of the pictures.
I own a Nexus 4 currently and it doesn't take the greatest pictures either with the AOSP camera. One thing I have noticed is Cyanogenmod's Focal camera app takes better pictures. I tried taking pictures with AOSP, Focal and ProCapture app and comparing them. While I am not using the paid version of ProCapture the pictures are sharper and the color is spot on vs AOSP and Focal, even though ProCapture is taking 3.2mp shots and AOSP/Focal are taking 8.0mp pictures.
Link to ProCapture(Free) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.neaststudios.procapture.free&hl=en
I know someone using ProCapture with their new Droid Maxx and says it has made a big difference in the image quality. This should obviously translate over to the Moto X as well. The full version is a few bucks and if someone is willing to purchase it and post their results for everyone that could help lots of X owners out.
Here are three pictures I took today and you can see how ProCapture's are sharper and the color is not washed out. First picture is AOSP, second Focal and last one is ProCapture.
I like the ProCapture app. I have the premium version. I will have to take some test shots to compare the two. However, I cannot find anyway of changing which app is launched when you use the twist gesture to open the camera. Every time I do it, it opens the stock camera. I have made the ProCapture app the default when swiping from the lockscreen but that does not apply to the gesture. Any ideas?
X
edit: One thing I wish the ProCapture had was an HDR setting.
HDR setting is in Focus/Scene option menu(second down on the left).
I'm very interested in seeing side by side shots you take. If you can take a variety of shots, in bright sunlight, the sky(good for color comparisons), low light, indoors, close ups, action shots, etc with both camera's and post them here.
As far as the gesture opening the app that's something you can't probably change with the stock software. Once developers start making rom's & mods for the Moto X I'm sure the gesture will be able to be reassigned to another app.

That's a lot of pictures. I will see what I can do.
As for the HDR setting, is it called something other than HDR? Cause it is not listed under the Focus/Scene option. I have the following:
Focus > Auto, Continuous, Infinity
Scene > Auto, Action, Portrait, Landscape, Night, Night portrait, Theatre, Beach, Snow, Sports, Sunset, Steady photo, Fireworks, Party, Candlelight, Backlight
Color effect > None, Mono, Sepia, Negative, Solarize, Posterize, Aqua, Blackboard, Whiteboard
Any comparison pictures you can take will be helpful for everyone. It can show its a software issue that can be fixed.
I'm using the free version of ProCapture, here is the HDR setting.

Xious1 or someone else give ProCapture a try and post pictures taken with it and the stock camera. I don't have a Moto X yet so I just know how much of a difference it has made on my Nexus 4 and my wife's Razr i.

I'm really not so sure I see much of a difference. Here's my samples:
Moto X Stock Camera:
Moto X ProCapture Free:
Moto X Focal:
Olympus E-PL1 with M.Zuiko 17mm F2.8 lens:
iPhone 5:
Nexus 4 Stock Camera:
Nexus 7 (2013) Stock Camera:
This is done with zero tweaking at all, straight out of the cameras. Even the mediocre Nexus 4 camera makes the Moto X look bad.

I understand testing the app without tweaking, but the reason I did a search for moto x & Procapture was simply, the X doesn't give users the ability to access settings like white balance, exposure, etc. I'm currently on an S3, and was set on either an X or a Droid Maxx, but the camera quality was holding me back. To get decent pics on my S3 I have to play with those settings, but with the stock Moto camera software, I wouldn't have that option. Now if it's possible to get rid of the purple tint that some reviewers are seeing, or give it better contrast, I wouldn't be so apprehensive. But I thought the point of getting an app like that was so you could tweak the settings to get it closer to the better cameras out there.
ProCapture allows many more options to tweak your shots. I used backlight mode this weekend to take pics were my daughter was standing in front of a large glass wall of windows with the sun coming through. With out back light mode you could hardly see her, with it on she popped to the front of the image. This is on my Nexus 4.
Now if you haven't heard Moto is pushing out an update to T-Mobile users right now that fixes the camera issues. The pictures side by side show a dramatic change in quality.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/7353/moto-x-update-dramatically-improves-camera-quality
Downside is can't use the cool wrist flick feature thing.
i agree, procapture is a very good camera, expecially to take panorama pics.
but in my opinion the big limit of this app is when you play with options and effect, because, while stock's camera reset values when you launch the app, procapture doesn't do that, but only for exposure (if you check it in settings).
so if you play with values when you launch in another time the app you have to reset all the values by yourself. i sent an email to the dev to make the app reset values when you lanch it.
I used Procapture far a while and was very pleased with it. Had you given FV-5 Camera try? I use it for now and for now i stay with it as it makes for me the best images.

You can do a separate exposure and focus though. I used to enjoy ProCamera but I think I can produce better shots with Camera FV-5.
Wow I just saw this post. I was about to give up on my Moto X camera and call it a loss for indoor photos.
Camera FV-5 changed that. This thing is great. Once you read through the manual to figure out adjustments, this thing takes great photos.

yes i use it since my RAZR. You have to read the manual (pdf) to get knowledge of the full potential of the app. The developer is releasing in some weeks a beta app for taking videos
by the way, there was a big bug when taking photos in portrait with Moto X. The images freezes. This was solved in the last update.

Camera quality

Hi folks
I've spent some time today playing around with Note 3 camera and I got mixed feelings.
It is clear that when there is light, the camera gets quite nice results but, what the hell is going on in interiors/low light?
Is it possible that my note N7000 gets sharper pictures in low light than the N9005?
I really hope this is a software issue, for your good Samsung

Could you please recomend one?
I use to have camera ICS+ in the N7000 because the volume buttons can be used as shooter button, quality was good too
Sure. For instance, Camera ZoomFX. Indoor under fluorescent looks much better.
Ucam is another. Not bad either.
Or Procapture, or FV5.
Stock Camera is horrible. It has no options to set the ISO, meaning that in low-light it automatically picks the highest settings, which has the most noise.

No experience with either. Which do you prefer and why? Thx.
That's odd. I and another owner also found the stock camera way worse than the n7000.
note 2 has more contrast and the photos don't seem washed out.
Also it focused faster.
Gonna try other apps.

As a photographer, I very much like the manual options in ProCapture. I still have not found anything that can match my dslr in terms of manual setting, but that comes closest.
Fv5 also has many of the settings I'm used to. It's quicker at saving the image, Procapture always needs time to process the shot, so for multiple pictures fv5 is better.
Shotcontrol is also a decent one.

That's great info, thanks.
Photography is a passion for me, too. I got rid of my last phone because of the camera. This one is very usable and I will be keeping my N3. I'll try both apps you suggested - already downloaded them - as soon as I can. Thanks, again!
Edit - Missed the third app you mentioned and have downloaded it now.

That's weird. On my stock N9005, when I open the camera and hit the menu button for camera options, I have the ISO settings menu, from which I can choose Auto, 100, 200, 400, or 800.

Oh, hello, they seem to have re-added them in the newest update. Well, that's a relief!
I noticed the same problems with the camera. Even took it back to the store to be sure it wasnt defective. I got way better pics with my Galaxy s 4
Have noticed if shooting in lots light with image stabilization on there is a lot of grading noise in a ring around the edges of the shoot.
The noise is not there with stabilization off.
Anyone else notice this

You should only be using image stabilization if shooting in very low light without using the flash.
Which is what I was doing

What is your firmware?
MJ2, havent got the latest update yet. Dont know if it ll fix anything though.

Is it my phone or is it all Nexus 5 cameras?

My camera looks extremely grainy. The picture itself is a little less grainy but the camera itself is terrible.
I was holding this camera side-by-side with my Galaxy Nexus and the Gnex had a clearer camera and took cleaner pictures.
Is there something wrong with my unit, or are they all like this, or is it just the Google Camera app or Lollipop that's causing this?
Here's a picture I just took on my N5. Might help, might not.
