[ROOT/CWM/KitKat MOD] Allwinner A31 Series - Dyno 7.22 / Bmorn M2 (1024) - Miscellaneous Android Development

This is a small thread regarding the Allwinner A31 based Dyno 7.22 / Bmorn M2
This tablet is based upon the Allwinner A31 Series SoC used in the Onda V971 Quad-Core, with a 7'' HD IPS screen @ 1024x600 resolution and running Android 4.2.2
To Root and install CWM on this device go to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2143581 (Credits to XDA Member hariprasadiit for making the thread)
After the device is rooted and CWM installed, follow these instructions:
1 - Download the file "KitKat Mod Recovery File.zip" from this link --> =http://www.4shared.com/zip/jyHpnYNBba/KitKat_Mod_Recovery_File.html
2 - Reboot into CWM and make a backup to your external SD Card
3 - Boot into the Rom normally and perform a Factory Reset from within settings --> backup and restore and select "erase sdcard" to make sure you avoid any conflicts.
4 - Unzip the file you downloaded and put the folder "2014-02-14.16.45.38" into clockworkmod/backup on your external SD Card
5 - Reboot into CWM again, go to backup and restore, and select "restore from external sdcard", select the "2014-02-14.16.45.38" backup
6 - Reboot the device.
I have not managed to make a proper Rom zip file because of the missing META-INF file, so i made it a CWM recovery.
This is NOT a Custom ROM, it's a modified STOCK Rom.
The Android 4.4 MOD includes:
-->Almost all Android 4.4 system apps, including the Google Experience Launcher
-->Android 4.4 Font Pack
-->Modified Dalvik-Cache values for better RAM availability and modified Wi-Fi Scan Interval for better battery performance
Some Android 4.4 Apps were excluded on purpose due to some incompatibility and fc's. These apps are:
--> Google Keyboard
--> Google Photosphere Camera
--> Google Gallery
--> Google DeskClock
IMPORTANT
If for some reason your device enters in a bootloop, just connect it to your USB port on the pc while bootlooping, start the Phoenix Suit program (wait for it to recognize the device), and reboot it to recovery from the program's menu. Your device will boot into CWM and there you can restore your previous backup
This backup is in Portuguese, so to change the language, go to Settings ("Definições"), then to Language and Input ("Idioma e Entrada") and in the first option, change to your desired language.
Enjoy, and Cheers to all!

What version of CWM recovery?

Just to be sure, does the CWM recovery version matter for installing kitkat? I have v6.0.2.7. Is there any updated version of CWM recovery that is A31s specific? Thanks.

So far that's the only version available for this platform, and the only recovery as far as i know.
The CWM Recovery File i provide, as stated in the OP, is not Android 4.4, it's a modded Stock Rom with the 4.4 app and font pack and some tweaks.
Just follow instructions and you'll be fine
Sent from my LG-E440 using xda app-developers app

Installed Successfully
I installed the mod successfully. Thank you.

The old link is down, new link for the file updated in the OP

Hello, anyone have "KitKat Mod Recovery File.zip" and can reupload it?

[AOSP] 4.1.1 JellyBean for Herotab C8

DISCLAIMER I (or any contributor) cannot be held responible in any way for any sort of damage caused for using this ROM or its derivatives.
This is the AOSP-based Android 4.1.1 Jellybean ROM using custom kernel 3.0 for Herotab C8/Dropad A8/Haipad M7/iBall Slide and compatible tablets.
The Herotab C8 and its siblings are one hackable device; It supports Android 2.2, 2.3, 3.0, 3.2, 4.0, and 4.1. It runs on a single-core Samsung S5PV210 1Ghz Processor and 512mb RAM. Pretty low spec, however with the right tinkering it can be one powerful device.
What works:
Display
Hardware acceleration
Touchscreen (thanks violet's ft506 driver and przemo27 for figuring the alternate data format)
Audio\Microphone (thanks to Asure's CM7 build for audio HAL; and mg3100's details on kernel)
Wi-Fi (thanks to violet's ar6000 driver and jolocotroco for locating source for a wpa_supplicant8 dependency)
Bluetooth
Accelerometer (thanks to Asure's port of mango210 kernel)
Battery Indicator
USB Host
USB OTG
Camera
Market, GoogleApps
Root
What does not work:
HDMI
3G dongle
(NOTE This list is not exhaustive; this build is still a Beta and not intended to be a daily driver)
Steps for flashing (using script; this will make 512MB system, 256MB cache and 1GB data partition and erase your existing settings and apps):
Extract the archive. You will get two files, one will be a GZipped tar (.tgz) and other the kernel (zImage). Copy these to the root of an external SD.
Download the attachment posted here and extract them to the root of the external SD. You should now see 6 files in the root of the external SD. (utscript, utscript_sd, utscript.sh, zImage.debug, zImage, rootfs.tgz).
Insert the SD card and boot your tablet using Menu+Power. This will flash your tablet.
Steps for flashing (using custom recovery):
Extract the archive. You will get two files, one will be a GZipped tar (.tgz) and other the kernel (zImage). Copy these into a folder (path muwst have no spaces) in your external SD card.
Boot into custom recovery.
Go to "Advanced", then "Partition SD card". Select partition sizes (make sure system partition > 320MB) and wait for it to format the partitions. Existing settings and apps will be lost.
[You can skip this step if your tab's system partition is > 320 MB]
Now return to the main menu, and select "Flash ROM". Give it the path where you stored the ROM in step 1. Wait for it to flash the ROM.
Return to main menu and select "Shutdown".
Turn on your tablet normally, and enjoy!

Custom recovery for herotab c8
DISCLAIMER. Use this at your own risk. I will not be responsible for any damage\brick caused by using this recovery.
Currently this is a Beta and all functionality has not been thoroughly tested.
This is a custom recovery modeled on CWM recovery (built on the custom kernel based on Urbetter's source) for Herotab C8/Dropad A8/Haipad M7/iBall Slide i7011/Coby 7024 and equivalent tablets. It should also work on Coby 8024/1024 tablets.
The recovery is built to be compatible (as much as possible) with existing firmwares (stock as well as custom) and patches (again stock as well as those found in custom ROMs). The reason you might want to use this recovery to flash is that:
Its safer (bootloader, etc. are not touched so greatly reduced probability of bricking)
It does not erase your data partition (so Apps and Settings are carried over)
It maintains your existing partition layout (you can change if wanted)
In order to try this recovery,
Download BootExtRecovery.zip attached to this post.
Download the recovery zip from the GitHub link below
Extract both zip files to the root of an external SD card.
Boot your tablet using Menu+Power
This will boot the recovery externally (i.e. unless you actually do something using the recovery, your tablet will be completely unmodified). After the recovery boots and menus work, you may flash the recovery into your tablet (using "Partitions and Storage" menu). Flashed this way, the recovery can be booted into whenever both your SD cards don't have a "utscript" file (otherwise the script is executed instead of starting recovery).
Download: https://github.com/namko/midRecovery/downloads
Source: https://github.com/namko/midRecovery
Key assignments:
Herotab C8/Dropad A8/Haipad M7/iBall Slide -- HOME to select, MENU/BACK to scroll
Coby 7024 -- HOME to select, POWER to scroll
Function list:
Flash ROM - Flashes the ROM on SD card (external or internal) located in a specific folder.
This does not erase 'data' partition. If you downgrade Android, make sure to erase the 'data' partition (or at least erase dalvik-cache from advanced menu) for maximum compatibility.
This does not repartition the internal SD, so if you want a different layout, make sure to change before flashing.
This flashes only the kernel (no other partition e.g. logo, recovery, boot arguments, boot loader)
Apply patch/update - Prompts you to select a patch/update to apply.
Wipe data/factory reset - Erases the 'data' partition. This is equivalent to doing a factory reset.
Wipe cache - Erases the 'cache' partition.
Backup/Restore - Create a new backup (system = firmware, data = your settings/apps) or restore a previously created backup. Essentially this is a NANDROID backup.
Partitions/Storage - To backup or flash individual partitions (e.g. logo, kernel, recovery, boot arguments, bootloader, etc.)
Advanced - To repartition the internal SD card, erase Dalvik-cache, view log, etc.
You can flash ROM (or apply updates) from .ZIP files as well; but it doesn't support the "standard" format because they sometimes contain executables that must be executed to properly apply the patch.
Fixes and patches
Kernel fix (just update it via recovery -> apply patch/update -> update kernel):
http://www.4shared.com/zip/M_ZcGiSF/zImage.html
Wifi Patch:
http://www.4shared.com/zip/3T9hUxnt/wifipatch.html
Here's a patch implementing changes suggested by jolocotroco. To apply this patch:
Extract the zip into your external SD card (anywhere)
Boot into recovery
Select "Apply patch/update"
Select the extracted file ("wifi.patch.tgz")
Reboot after applying patch
It is also possible to apply the patch using adb. Remember to stop WiFi first. This will apply the patch and reboot your device.
adb push wifi.patch.tgz /mnt/sdcard
adb shell
su
mount -o rw,remount /
mount -o rw,remount /system
stop wpa_supplicant
stop hostapd
tar xvf /mnt/sdcard/wifi.patch.tgz -C /
reboot

[Q] Unlock and install CROMi-X

Hi,
After 1 year my warranty is now off and i'm starting to replace the slow stock rom by CROMi-X rom.
My tab is a 4.2.1 / 10.6.1.14.8 stock rom and so far here is what i have done :
- backup all my apps with Titanium Backup and copy them on my PC
- unlock with Asus unlock tool
- install goomanager
- install OpenRecoveryScript from within goomanager
Now i'm downloading the deodex cromi-x 4.7.0 before doing next steps.
I have few questions :
- TWRP was it installed when i installed goomanager and OpenRecoveryScript or did I miss a step ?
in thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2223492 it's indicated :
If you are already rooted then use goomanager to install the latest TWRP via the menu
So I believe I have to do something inside goomanager but i don't find literaly in its menu the option "install latest TWRP".
Coud you please indicate me what option of the menu I have to use to do that step ?
- i've chosen deodex in case i'd like to add theme. is it your own choice or do you prefer odex ?
- is it interesting to install nvflash (i'm sure anyway that my tab is compatible with that) ?
- nandroid backup : is it done from inside TWRP (after boot recovery) ?
- navigate backup to install : is it done from inside TWRP (after boot recovery) ?
That's all for the moment, thanks in advance for your assistance

I see in some other threads that this is the goomanager option "install recoveryscript" that install TWRP and now i see in my tab inside folder goomanager that there is a file openrecovery-twrp-2.6.0.0-tf700t.blob. It seems to me that this is the rwrp tool. Am I right ? Then it means that I could now boot on recovery (option Rebbot Recovery inside goo manager + Power and Volume Down and hit Volume up on the RCK icon in the 10.6.1.x bootloader screen) to do next actions (backup my current rom and then install the cromi-x rom).
Question : Do I need to do a factory reset ?

Thanks maxal, i will do a first comi-x installation without hard reset and i'll see how it's going on.

- I did not use goo to install the twrp, so I don't know how it works...
- I believe that you use goo to find the latest twrp and install it yourself using goo. There must be a menu or button that you can use to install twrp or other custom recovery.
- You can not use NVFlash to backup your blob if your tab has a rom version later than ICS .26.
- Yes, you can nandroid backup from TWRP when you have it installed.
- I use both of them to test out the theory of performance. I don't know if one is better than the other. However, I have noticed that Sbdags has more tweaks in the build.prop of Odex version comparing with Deodex. Only Sbdags can answer that question for. You could try both and test them yourself. Hope that I answer all yourquestions..
- Yes, you can restore your backup from TWRP.
The post above me has a good question for you. Goo needs root permission to install any custom recovery. You can use motochopper to get root if you have not had it. Good luck.
To install twrp recovery using Goo you must be rooted first tha'ts why I asked have you used motochopper to root.

To install twrp using Goo is easy, open Goo, look in the top right hand corner for the three dot click on it then click on install open recovery.
Wait for twrp to download and your tablet should boot into update mode and you should see a blue bar build from the left when it's finished it should reboot ans you should then have twrp installed.
You can download quick boot from the play store and when you open it you will see an option to enter recovery, the easy way,

You don't imagine how many times I've read the CROMI-X instruction (link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2223492) in order to be sure not to brick my tab !
I don't see any missing task or any wrong thing that i've done. But this is the first time I ever install an alternate rom on an android device and even if i'm working in computing, this is quite new for me and I might be wrong. So if you have a few minutes to check my resume below, I would be very grateful to have your remarks or questions
My current configuration :
- stock rom 4.2.1
- bootloader 10.6.1.14.8
- root (via motochooper)
What I have done :
- download "CROMi-Xenogenesis 4.7.0 DEODEX" from CROMI-X thread link
and copy the zip file (CROMi-Xenogenesis DEODEX 4.7.0_Signed.zip) to the internal SD card
- backup all my apps and data (with Titanium Backup) and copy it on my computer
- unlocked the tab (via asus unlock tool) : at bootup it displays "the device is unlocked"
- twrp installed (via goo manager / install OpenRecoveryScript)
- quick boot installed (as i was not sure of how to use twrp)
- boot on recovery (via quick boot) : i'm now in TWRP v2.6.0.0
- done backup of 3 partitions (system, data, boot)
If I read the CROMI-X thread, it says that now I have to :
- Navigate back up to install (inside TWRP)
- Choose the CROMi-Xenogensis zip file and follow the instructions
- Enjoy

Yes what you have done sounds right, one thing I normally do is back up all the partitions, and I copy the back up to the micro sdcard that I have mounted in the tablet.

I don't have any micro-sdcard and my largest sdcard (to connect to the dock) is not large enough (1 Gb). So i've quit TWRP and connect the tab to my PC to copy the TWRP/Backup folder to my computer.
The copy from my tab to my PC is not working for the large files (i don't know why).
I'm doing again the backup : this time i do backup of all partitions (not only the 3 selected by default).
As i don't do factory reset, I should not loose this backup, should I ?

ROM
Stock ROM : The ROM which came with your device without any modifications
Custom ROM : Custom ROM is the ROM developed by developers on the basis of stock ROM or unofficial ROM developed from source like Cyanogen mod, miui,..etc.
Ported ROM : Ported ROM is the ROM ported from devices of other brands to get the interface of other brands. Ported ROM is also a Custom ROM Example : Xperia UI in samsung and XOLO
RECOVERY
It is a Bootable partition where we can boot other custom ROMs and kernels and erase the system data in our phone(same like Boot manager in PC)
"RECOVERY MODE" : It is the recovery which comes with every phone officially without modification. It has only options to erase user data AND HARD RESET to OEM (original equipment manufacturer) SETTINGS and install official firmware updates from XOLO.
"CUSTOM RECOVERY" : Most commonly used custom recoveries are CWM and TWRP. They both have lot of options than stock recovery. It has options to install custom ROMs, kernels, format system data, create partitions and install different mods
Difference between CWM and TWRP : Both are good in their aspects TWRP is more easy to use and advanced than CWM. Lets discuss the features
In TWRP we can backup any specific partition you want but CWM not you have to take backup as whole in CWM
We can rename the backup in TWRP but in CWM not
File manager option is there in TWRP but in CWM it does not have it
TWRP allows us to use programs like goo manager, ROM toolbox,etc... but in CWM only allowed is ROM manager
ROOT
ROOT in android means it gives superuser permissions to you to install mods, to install custom ROMs and edit system files. ROOT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH PERFORMANCE
COMMON INSTRUCTIONS TO INSTALL CUSTOM ROM
Use volume keys to navigate up and down and power key to select
First backup your stock ROM using recovery or online nandroid backup from playstore if you havent done yet
If you want all your apps back backup using titanium backup (Its in the file section of our group

Copy the zip file to external sd
Boot into recovery mode either CWM or TWRP by pressing vol up+power+home buttons before your phone turns on
select wipe data and factory reset
select clear cache (If necessary format system also from mounts and storage menu)
select install update from sd card
Then navigate to the zip file where you have copied the file and select it
Wait until it completes installing it will show update installed successfully when its completed
Now select reboot option
When your device boots you have successfully installed custom ROM in your device
GENERAL SOLUTION FOR ALL PROBLEMS FOLLOW THEM ONE BY ONE UNTIL THE PROBLEM SOLVES
Reboot your phone
Force stop the particular app which creates that problem
wipe data and factory reset

[Q] Are there any clean, basic roms for the S-6310?

Hi!
I'm looking for a clean, basic rom for my S-6310, without any pre installed apps, just pure android, like on my Nexus 7. I searched for it all over the net, but couldn't find one. If it's pre rooted, it's okay, but I don't need any pre installed apps (like samsung apps, touchwizz) etc.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thank in advance!

Just flash OTA KK and the error will dissapear
Here is the original system.ui if you don't want to install ota kk, but the buttons will be in spanish. Only option if you want buttons in english is to flash the OTA KK, but the rom is faster without it.

You have to be on stock rom before flashing emotion V11, preferably ver. XXAMK1, since this rom is based on it. You can try V10L, it's much more stable, same rule applying.

@ razvangrig thanks, your guide was very helpful for me! just worked flawlessly!

Roms for GT-I8160P version guide

Hi people, here is a short instruction if you have a P or L version of the I8160 and want to update this (great) old phone. credits to xdas-e
for a while i thought that roms didnt work on the P version, because when installing roms i got the error that the rom was only for I8160, not I8160P. so yeah it is possible, maybe this is common knowledge, but i couldnt find out how before i found this information.
I have not tested this exhaustively but i believe they all should work, because i believe the only difference from the P version is that it has an NFC module.
]------- modify the rom for P version:
1.- Get the custom ROM.
2.- Get the /system/lib/tee folder contents from your GT-I8160P JB installation (from stock rom). You may need root access, although in my case I could simply move trough the hidden directories and copy the folder to my sd card.
3.- Swap the /system/lib/tee folder, and put what you got from step 2, into the zip file of step 1, same place, same everything. You may very well dispose the original /system/lib/tee folder in the zip file.
4.- Change /system/build.prop and introduce a P in every GT-I8160 entry (from GT-I8160 to GT-I8160P).
5.- (tricky one) look for the updater script file within the custom ROM zip file, and delete (or add a P) the first complete entry of the assert command (you shall see some GT-I8160 there). in my case it was located under META-INF\com\google\android\.
------- from here you have successfully modified the rom for the P version, these steps just show the installation:
6.- If you dont already have CWM, get yourself one (I used this one [JB] CWM Recovery 6).
7.- Put both zip files into your sd card; get a copy also of gapps (google apps, play store etc) for the android version of the rom.
8.- Back up all your data.
9.- Swicht off your phone and restart in recovery mode (up volume, home and power buttons pressed simultaneously).
10.- Load from the external sd card the CWM zip file.
11.- Make a full ROM backup to restore if things go wrong. Wipe data/factory reset; wipe cache partition; wipe dalvik cache (under advance options), format /system if needed (see rom instructions).
12.- Install from external sd card: a) custom CM rom; and b) gapps if you're for it.
13.- Restart.
14.- You shall be done!!! (first boot takes a long time)
good luck! my phone was crap with stock and now it works great, so basically it saved me from buying a new phone.. a big thanks to all the rom developers for this device .
