error when updating rom cant check disable verification - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

Phone is tmobile 4gs, T959V with stock rom, rooted. Ok, so I was running a Team Whiskey rom, because it was the only one i could get to work but I was having mem issues, as in none. So I went back to stock rom from tmobile, through this forum. I rooted again, ✓, downloaded file for CyanogenMod 9, ✓, google apps, ✓, copyed to sd card, ✓, restarted phone in recovery mode, ✓, load from sd card, chose file, and get error
"E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted."
I looked for "toggle signature verification" and dont see it.
So...
I did not upload a new kernal. Should I do that first? Thanks for the help
Also, I do have RomManager installed. Should I? I think I read that it doesnt work to well on this phone.
Thx
Ps. running gingerbread 2.3.6
Fixed my own Problem.
Seems having the original kernal does not give you the option to unclick verify. Updated Kernal to Blastoff by Team Acid and then went into recovery mode and there it was. Update sucessful.
Not sure how to edit the title of this post, but might help other people if "Fixed" was added.

When you boot into recovery mode, what color is all the text? It should be either blue, red or orange.

Put this on your internal SD card along with your ROM of choice. Reboot in to recovery and install packages 2 times. The second time it will be in clockwork recovery and you can flash your ROM.
I just had the same problem after doing countless ROM flashes in the past. Perhaps its something in their server preventing the download of CWM? Anyways, thanks for the .zip. Worked like a charm!
yes thank you very much for that zip u saved my life well appreciated
Keep that .zip on your HDD and you can bypass Rom Manager (and all the associated problems) altogether.
I have my phone rooted and unlocked. It's the AT&T Captivate but I'm using it on T-Mobile. I've had no problems so far with it.
I downloaded Clockwork's Rom Manager (v3.0.0.7) and tried to Flash ClockworkMod Recovery to begin experimenting with ROMs.
When I click on that it tells me "An error occurred while downloading your recovery."
I have over 4 gigs of memory left and I have 3 bars on 3g and WiFi going. No internet connection problems (i checked the net using market and using the browser, it works fine.)
What else could be causing the problems.
I'm just wanting to get a good stable rom going which ditches all the junk AT&T put on the phone.

I Can't get the update.zip file to work. After I reinstall packages is says E:Can't open /sdcard/update.zip (No such file or derectory) Installation aborted. I've tried it probably 20 times today with no luck.
Thank You
Nothing like flashing to find out it wasn't working. Thanks for making my day go better.
Noobie Mistakes
Just like everyone in this forum I'm having the same problem, I followed your instructions posted, but every time I reinstall packages in recovery mode a whole list of new problems comes up..... see below.
---Install from sdcard---
Finding update package...

Verifying update package...
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.

if the update.zip is already on your /sdcard/ then there is no reason to try and download/flash clockwork recovery.....thats what the update.zip IS
thats what i thuoght but not true. even goin in normal recovery and selecting to install packages gets a error some about no such directory or something even though updat.zip is there even fix permissions gives a error
I'm having the exact same problem. After reading the development section I have decided to flash a custom rom from my stock rom. Installed "Rom manger" from market, then tried to run the "recovery" got the same error msg. Also uploaded the update.zip to my /sdcard the I got the below errors:
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted

Did you flash back to stock JF6 first not JI6?
try this cuz this is what i did and the update.zip worked just fine for me
1. one click back to stock jf6
2. master clear
3. root with galaxy s one click root
(after the root there should be an update.zip in your sdcard)
4. replace the update.zip in the root of your sd card with the one here posted which is the clockwork recovery one and if you want while u do that you can throw in the rom that you want to flash in there as well to kill 2 birds with one stone
(i will re post the update.zip for cwm just in case)
5. power off the phone and boot into stock recovery and hit reinstall packages two times
6. you should now be in clockwork mod recovery and can now flash the rom of your choice
this is what i did and everything went smoothly but this is just me if this helps someone else plz let me know if this works for you
p.s. i will make a video if needed just ask
Try This
After flashing back to stock do a master clear from Odin3
Put update.zip onto internal sd
Boot into recovery
Reinstall packages
After boot enable USB debugging and mock locations
Get Rom Manager from market
Start Rom Manager
Flash ClockworkMod Recovery
Flash away

You guys are making it harder then necessary, the update zip I posted is the clockwork recovery MOD, just flash stock, reboot into recovery and reinstall packages 2 times and you will be in the green clockwork recovery then you can install zip from sd and choose your ROM you placed on your internal sd card. No need to root every again as long as you keep this update zip handy.
I too am having problems with Rom Manager. I just wanted to change modems. No go. So I used the power button to go into Recovery mode, picked the modem file, flashed it then told the menu to reboot system.

2.3.4 Google Nexus One Rom Only 6.7MB, something wrong??? can't install???

I am trying to remove cyanogen ROMs from my Google Nexus One phone and I am following How To: Update Nexus One to Android 2.3.4 gadgetfeel.com/how-to-update-nexus-one-to-android-2-3-4/ to install the 2.3.4 update.
When I do a trackball/power start and select bootloader and then recovery I am put in the ClockworkMod Recovery v3.0.0.5 app, from there when I do an "apply update from sdcard" or install zip from sdcard" it gives me the cyanogen logo with a hat on it and does nothing.
I downloaded the renamed to update.zip 2.3.4 ROM to my sdcard and moved it to the top directory in the sdcard.
What am I doing wrong. The 2.3.4 ROM is only 6.7MB that seems very small. Perhaps that is the problem
you have to flash nexus one 2.3.3 rom first then flash v2.3.4 over it
here is a guide for 2.3.3
http://www.redmondpie.com/install-android-2.3.3-gingerbread-on-nexus-one-how-to-guide/
after doing that follow your 2.3.4 guide
This is what I am getting when I try to install the new update.zip I copied to the root of the microSD card.
ClockworkMod Recovery v3.0.0.5
-- Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
opening update package...
installing update...
assert failed: blah blah blab
E:error in /sdcard/update.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
Should I try to reformat the sdcard and recopy and try again?
EDIT:
I deleted the file and retried it again. Same thing.
So I dl the 7.0.3.0-NI and it installed just fine.
So must be a problem with the file?
bob.
ok have you tried from this guide?
http://www.gottabemobile.com/2011/05/03/nexus-one-android-2-3-4-update-can-be-manually-installed/
and you have to have 2.3.3 thats manatory
UPDATE
it should be only a update file, so you first flash the android 2.3.3 first and then go back into your app for flashing or clockmmod and flash the update, then you should be able to get it done
The 2.3.3 from this file will not load it gives the above posted errors.
http://www.redmondpie.com/install-android-2.3.3-gingerbread-on-nexus-one-how-to-guide/
So its not me and its not the phone as far as I can tell, I just updated to 7.0.3-N1 cyanogen mod7. works fine. So where do I get the 2.3.3 from if this one doesn't work?
I think I need an original recovery image. These ones I am downloading don't want to go over top of Cyanogen Mod7?
I still can't get the original ROMs back on this phone. every file I download is corrupt except for the cyanogen files which I can dl and install no problem. Can some one give me a link to a file that is good and that they have downloaded and it is not corrupt. and yes I rebooted my winXP box.
Actually, it IS possible to flash from an older Android version to 2.3.4. I did exactly that on my Nexus One, going straight from 2.2 to MIUI 2.3.4. I needed to unlock my bootloader and flash Amon Ra's recovery, I experienced no problems whatsoever.

[Q] I can't load any ROM's on Roger Infuse 4g

So I rooted my phone -> Thanks XDA
and I've installed CWM but I can't boot into/install CWM recovery Console.
Everytime I try I get
E:Failed Verify Whole-File Signature
E:Signature verification failed
Installation Aborted.
Then I'm spit into the Android system recover(3e).
Where regardless of what I do I get the same error.
OR
it simply says
E: signature verification failed.
I've been reading for the last 4 days trying to figure a way around this. I've bricked and unbricked my phone 4 times.
If I've missed a thread that would help I apologize, I'm a noob around here but I'm a well versed hacker of hardware.
Thanks for your help
What do you mean you "installed CWM"
The same method for rooting your device (flashing a kernel that injects root to your device) already has CWM built in.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1197248
Whatever you did to "install" CWM probably broke the existing CWM installation of the kernel you flashed to get root.
... well I'm ran through the infused update again..... and my phone started talk.
Scared the BA JESUS out of me LOL.
And now it works.
I figured it was something easy like that.
Thanks for your help.

Galaxy SII Issues with CWM Ultra toxic rom 8.0

Gday. I'm having this issues trying to update to the latest 8.01 version of the ultra toxic rom. I cant post as im below 10 post so this was the only place i could find for some help.
I have rom manager installed. and i also flash clockworkmod recovery then reboot into recovery. For what ever reason it will not work and im at a loss, tried uninstall it and go from there but no go.
Once it reboots it says at the top Android system recovery <3e>.
Down a little it says this.
E:failed to verify whole-file signature.
E:signature verification failed.
Installation aborted.
Basically i have searched the net and cant work it out myself. I've used it before for a backup when going from lightning rom to toxic rom. but I've never used it since.

[Q] error message with clockworkmod and 3e recovery install

so i poked around on the infuse 4g forums, and didn't find much relating to clockworkmod, sooo i apologize if this is repeating another thread
i have a few questions about a rooted samsung infuse 4g on at&t. i am very new to this. my phone had been having random shutdown issues, and was reverting app settings to the initial settings. i'm hoping a root can help with this.
i installed clockworkmod recovery on the device (which requires 3e recovery as well).
after placing the files in the directed spots, and while booting into recovery and selecting "reinstall packages", i got the error message "E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted." for both recovery installs.
both were in the proper place and all, i'd triple checked everything. i attempted to "backup current rom" using rom manager and got the same message. the backup file was never created.
2nd question:
if i can't fix this, would it be a bad idea to forget it and flash a rom via odin instead? i assume (optimistically) that the problem is with the install and not the phone itself.
3rd question:
i've backed up all apps and info with titanium backup, do i need to backup my current rom? (firmware version 2.2.1 kernel version 2.6.32.9 no custom rom or anything, just rooted)
Did you install 3e or clockwork recovery first? I he the same happen to me because I flashed clockwork from rom manager before I got 3e recovery taken care of. If so, uninstall rom manager, install it again and flash clockwork recovery. It worked for me.

I installed clockwork first, assumed it didn't matter >,< do i need to remove 3e as well and start totally over? thanks so much! i figured it was something simple like that. I'll try it out
I just did that and attempted a backup, same error message as before ):

1. You might not want to back up anything with cwm. At least, I don't. Bad things happen when you try to restore them.
Rooting won't make a difference.
Back up your contacts and your apps only.
2. you can flash with odin or heimdall. if you go odin, use h8rift's.
3. just back up the apps. no need for froyo 2.2.1. gtg's and h8rift already created the orignal image
Great, then that's taken care of. Let me see if I'm understanding correctly; if I ever need to unroot, the stock rom will be available with h8rift? Therefore, no need to backup the current rom.
2. I will try that. Do you have a preference between odin and heimdall?
Before flashing and whatnot, would it be a good idea to uninstall 3e recovery, cwm recovery, or rom manager? or all 3? If I should uninstall rom manager, would a replacement app be useful and which one?
Read my post ...top to bottom.
got it. thanks
just rebooted into recovery using rom manager. i am still getting the same error message. how can i fix this? i did not see a solution in your article, nor did i see one in the forums for the infuse 4g.

Download sgs kernel flasher and flash entropys daily driver with it. There are multiple other threads with this problem resolved. Most of the old methods dont work if you just got your infuse and it came with 2.3.6 on it, but from what I've read(yes, even though I don't have the problem I found how to resolve it) the sgs kernel flasher is the way to go.
I would help more, but if you can't read enough to figure out the process, then maybe you shouldn't. Sorry, I'm just a bit bugged by this being reposted in more than 5 new threads very recently. I'm not trying to be a ****, but everybody just needs to take it slow and read. Most problems have been solved for the most part.

turned out to be an easy fix, no extra downloads necessary. uninstalled 3e and cwm and reinstalled. everything is up and running well. thanks for the help
