[Q] Does reinstalling the kernel reset the dalvik/bionic caches? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Does reinstalling a rom reset the dalvik/bionic caches and adreno drivers?
Because I change my rom a lot, and I don't want to reflash the other zips everytime I change my kernel.
Cheers,
Sir Zeph

Hi,
Yes, you need to reflash them (Adreno drivers, Dalvik and Bionic patches) each time you flash a rom, they are overwritten even with a dirty flash. Unless your future rom include them.
When you flash a kernel no it's not necessary, they are not on the kernel side.

I just flashed this on top of my stock rooted JRO03S ROM and wiped caches. I made a nandroid, just to be on the safe side, but it booted right up without issue.
I'd say flash it after making some sort of backup, and if you have problems, full wipe.

Thats what Im doing right now. If all fails, I'll just reflash stock and flash the update on top.
Flashed it worked fine for me installing all my apps as we speak

I flashed this, worked fine, but now I have lost root and can't boot into recovery.
I have tried re-rooting again with the toolkit but it doesn't seem to work as it always boots back to system without doing anything.
The state seems to be still unlocked though.
Please advise
All working fine over here Flashed on top of rooted/unlocked stock 4.1.1 with wiping Cache after flashing.
Flashed the new bootloader (which fixed the recovery issue for me), then wiped cache and flashed the new ROM dirty over rooted 4.1.1. Worked fine. Thanks!
PS. Aroma installer is pretty cool. First time I've used it.

[Q] Jelly Bean Based ROMs

I have successfully flashed Touch Wiz based ROMs but every time I try to flash anything else the GAPPs file does't flash right or the ROM in general soft boots. Any idea what I am doing wrong? I am currently running CleanRom 5.0....runs perfectly. But I can't get any CyanogenMod or AOKP roms to flash properly. I use clockworkmod recovery 6.1 (something like that).I am on the lastest radio and modem. I have never flashed a kernel.
What is gapps are you trying to flash?
Sent from my SCH-I535
Gapps are only got the Aokp and Aosp roms. No need to flash then with TW roms. That may be your problem.

That's right....TW stuff works fine, Wonder if I need to change kernels or when using EZRecovery should I take different steps from the TWiz stuff???? Yes I wipe everything...yes I format system. I did use TWRP one time and it was a disaster but I'm sure I just did it wrong.

You should just use the ex recovery to install the recovery, I use cwm, then boot into recovery wipe everything, flash ROM, flash gapps reboot and enjoy. Make sure you used ez unlock version 1.2 from rootzwiki and you should be good. Like I said what is the file name of your gapps seen people use old ones that caused problem.

The GAPPS I flashed was the one that the instructions for installing the ROM told me to flash. Hard to remember the number because different ROMs had different GAPPs. EZ Unlocker 1.4? You may be on to something. Not sure which one I used because I hadn't loaded it back on after the last flash. But it is possible I used the current version instead of 1.4. Should I install the correct version....do a lock and then an unlock? And try again?

Hi sir hopefully you have an intention or plan to add call recorder feature to your upcoming kernel version in futures
Thanks in advanced
Perhaps. But remember this thread is only for stock kernel with modify ramdisk. For feature check out my thread in original development section.
sorry for the may silly question, but do I need a unlocked bootloader for this kernel?
Yeah. You need a unlocked bootloader to flash via fastboot. Or a unlocked bootloader with custom recovery.

Seriously, "having wifi issues" and you expect a response?
You're not even helping us help yourself. Perhaps if you actually described what is going on, what configuration you are using and so on... maybe then, someone would bother to reply.
It's simple. I was having WiFi issues as in WiFi wouldn't turn on it stayed turning on indefinitely. But with the other issues already described in this thread and others about custom kernels, I guess we just have to wait for the sources to be released.
Sent from my M7 using Tapatalk 2
No WiFi issue here. Check if you have right modules in /system/lib/modules
Use modinfo to get the info and then compare it with your kernel version.

Hi there, just flashed your kernel via CWM. Do I need to do wipe and/or flash boot img? Btw,after installing this kernel can install/use paid apps again...
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
No, you need wipe nothing. Ask your rom developer for a fix pls.
Edit:
I can pay with ceditcard and Vodafone-de
Vodafone only works if you edit your build.prop to match with your provider.

[HTC One SV][Kernel][Linaro][4.2.2] Linaro kernel for K2_UL v0.1 ALPHA

Hello and happy new year everybody!
I compiled stock k2_ul kernel with linaro toolchain, just for fun. And I'm sharing it
I tested it personally and on my phone it seems to work fine. Anyway, let me now if something doesn't work.
if you're S-OFF, just flash the attached zip
if you're S-ON, flash the zip, then reboot in fastboot and do
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
from computer.
Features:
- Compiled with Linaro Toolchain
- Unsecure system
- Debuggable
I'm not responsible for any damage you make to your phone.
have fun!

No, it doesn't.

Given the similarities between both K2 variants it may very well work. If you wish to test it then I advise booting it vice flashing it. This way if it doesn't go so well, you can reboot the device and your original one will still be in place without being overwritten. Below is the command to boot vice flash:
fastboot boot boot.img
Edit: if you do it, please report back here with updates.

Yea, I get that, but the above command will boot the boot.img instead of flashing the boot.img. Flashing will overwrite the specified partition with the other img, where as booting it will keep the original, and in a sense, virtually boot the other img and will run it until you restart your device in which your device will go back to using the original img already stored on your device previously.
