[Q] Is it fine(OTG USB Question)? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry for my Strange English
I bought a otg usb for my nexus 5
I am using 32GB Model. However I am really hard user so I bought 32gb otg usb.
I formatted it(ExFat, 32KB)
I disappointed with the speed.
So I installed ElementalX 0.29-cm
and formatted my usb again(NTFS, 2048B)
Is it fine?(Please see the screenshot file attachment)

ExFat has given some problems to some people. If you like moving big files, stay on NTFS. 48.7MB/s is not bad.
FAT32 also works.

[Q] USB Flash drive not recognized under Jellybean 4.1.1

Hello all,
My Galaxy note Android version has been updated with the official ROM Jellybean 4.1.1.
OTG USB Flash drive is not recognized whatever the format I try (FAT, FAT32, EXT2 ...) as it works perfectly with the previous ROM using FAT32.
I've tryed 2 OTG cable. When I connect the drive, the led switches on, but nothing else. The device doesn't appair in the storage list in the set-up.
Is there any one with the same problem? Any clue?
Thanks.
Joël
I think it has to do with the size of the drive. ICS used to be able to open up my 64g USB drive, now it won't.
It WILL however, read my 4g just fine.
Not sure the exact reason.

Thank you for information. What ICS version are you running ? I have Android 4.1.1 Kernel 3.0.31-541027 Version JR003C.N8010XXBLK9. I've tried with a 1 GB drive to be sure of the size effect. No result with FAT, FAT32, EXT2, NTFS ...

Whatever was stock on it. (Sorry, memory not too good anymore)
I'm on Jelly Bean now and my 4g works.
Also...forgot to mention, I'm using the Samsung USB adapter that came with the "Student Edition" Tab 2 7.0 when I bought it.

I had to reboot the tablet then my 64gb usb pen worked?....
same problem - no otg mount after jellybean upgrade
I tried the same drive and otg cable on a note 10.1 immediately before and after the upgrade and it doesn't mount post upgrade. I've tried 8gb and 256mb flash drives. The tablet shows the connection, but does not proceed to mount the drive.
Is this really working for some people? I'm using an ebay cheap cable. Are others seeing this problem with official samsung cables?
Same issues here.
2 OTG cables as well as another that I hand made.
16gb Lacie Cookey- No mount
16gb Sandisk Cruzer- No mount
8gb PNY Flash drive - Mounts

No they were all FAT32 except for the 64 which was NTFS.
I reformatted the 64gb to exfat and it seems to work fine now.
Will try the others as soon as I offload data.
Using USB OTG Helper for the mounting.
My UK GT-N8000 is on OTA 4.1.1 stock and is not rooted or modified in any way. I have just used an after-market OTG cable from Amazon to mount a 16GB USB stick with no problems at all. It saw the contents and opened up a file browser to show them.
This is the one I used.

The issue occurs in 4.1.2, for me. Mine is unrooted stock, so I don't think I can run that USB OTG Helper.

[Q] OTG doesn't recognise my USB memory card

Hi, when I plug in my usb memory nothing happens, I installed USB OTG Helper and I get code 5, I already tried another memory card and it doesn't work either, however, I tried a mouse and it works perfectly, what can I do?
Maybe only FAT32 file system is accepted.
The usb disk is formatted in NTFS or FAT32?

I just checked and it is FAT32, I have never used OTG so I don't know what to do...
EDIT: I just checked OTG Troubleshooter and it even says the model of my usb memory stic so I'm guessing the issue is I can't/don't know exactly how to acces the data on it

It might be worth the $4 for Nexus Media Importer available on the Play Store. I tested it on the Moto G and it's working flawlessly. Keep in mind there's always the off chance your OTG cable is incompatible.
I have the same problem after updating to kit kat (only works wireless keyboard), in 4.3 all worked perfectly. All usb has mounted with FAT32 system.
Sorry for my english.

Are you sure that you used a third party tool to mount the USB? KitKat doesnt support OTG anymore/at the moment.

[Q] USB 3.0 -OTG failing with moto G

Hi,
This is my first post so bear with me ...
I have recently purchased Moto G and was trying out OTG functionality. I have brought a USB 3.0 16gb pen drive and formatted it in FAT32 File system and trying to connect to Moto G using a OTG cable (USB 2.0) but it is giving an error "USB storage is blank or has unsupported filesystem"
I recently tried out with 8gb USB 2.0 pen drive an it was working fine.
Can you please advice what could be the issue here and how to fix this?
Thanks,
Mukund

I believe the 16gb USB3.0 pen drive you have is backwards compatible I.e, it also supports USB2.0
Then the problem is with the file system of the pendrive ... Stock moto g ROMs doesn't detect NTFS USB devices... You should change it to fat32 and try

Thanks, But I already have FAT32 as the file system for my pen drive. Is there is a posibility that Moto g / OTG cable doesn't have capability to transfer date as 3.0 speeds or backward compatibility should take care of it ?
Will it help if I have a OTG-USB 3.0 cable, or it will also have the same issue may be due to Moto G limitation?
Thanks,
Mukund

As your phone supports USB 2.0, I think that's why you are facing problem with USB 3. pen drive.
As far I know, USB port is related to hardware. So, probably you won't be able to upgrade your USB 2.0 to USB 3.0, but I am not sure.

hmm..It is possible, But I am not sure what is the phone capability. I thought moto G may have support for connecting to USB 3.0 using OTG-USB 3.0 cable, which is recently introduced in market. I did some google research on the same but could not find out if there is some intrinsic limitation of Moto G with USB 3.0..

[Q] USB 3.0 OTG cable (WD 1TB)

Hi all, I wanna drop a query here.
Did any body tried to connect Western Digital Hard drive to Note Pro 12.2? I did everything, but really, I was disappointed because I wasn't able to connect it using OTG Cqble.
What format is it? I haven't been able to get ntfs to work yet, each of my drives show up as blank drives. I'm not about to change them to another format just for this tablet... migrating files off and then back on after formatting wouldn't be worth my time.

I was able to connect both an NTF and. EXFAT drive to my unrooted NotPro. Had to use special software of the ntf and then it was read only. With the exfat it is r/w and connects with native software.

You mean that if I will root my NotPro, then I will be able to connect my 1TB to it, and transfer files, or only reading?

If you are willing to root you can connect an NTFS drive and read or write to it. Not sure it matters what size
If you are not willing to root you can only read ntfs but can read/write an exfat drive. Mine is 1Tb. I believe exfat does have a size limit but not sure what it is.

Ironically is not as clear cut as that. I'm rooted and had issues with NTFS. Not sure why, but my 64 gb usb flash drive formatted NTFS would not work, neither would a 1tb Western digital passport. I tried stickmount, paragon and usb otg helper. Eventually dumping all three apps and formatting the flash drive to exfat was the only solution that would work. I'm only monkeying around so I'm not about to try to backup the hard drive to another one just to reformat it to exfat. I guess I'll buy a hard drive someday for this tablet. .. I'm starting to think that exfat is the most reliable way to ensure compatibility.

Well - yes and no.
I've just ordered this tablet and am very exited.
Regarding ntfs:
I tried this on my Note3. Yes i could read/write ntfs drives.
However I could only read 1 logical drive.
I had a 64 Gig stick partitioned in 2 logical ntfs drives. I could only access/detect one of them.
I read that this somehow relates to SE-linux in "enforcing" mode.
Couldn't figure out how to set to "permissive". A simple shell command didn't work. Yes I tried SU'ing the command as well.
Will try to find that post again.
If it is a se-linux related issue it stands to reason that it'll translate to Note Pro as well - doesn't it?
Regards
Elo

OTG? And external storage...

I currently have this setup.. The problem that I'm running into is connection.
When I connect it to the phone it will recognize the USB Storage device and then disconnect almost immediately.
Could it be that the stock rom does not support it?
I think that's the cable.
Happened to me too at my Note 8.0. I must hold the OTG cable if gonna use that
If the kernel in the rom not support it, it won't read the external storage at all

Haven't tried another cable... Maybe time to buy another one? Could it be the usb stick? doubt the usb stick has problem since it's so new
I have the same setup since the Note 2 and tried it on the Note 4 and it works just fine. I would try another cable or try another drive. I just tried with my external hdd and it works fine too.

I think it's the FAT32, I can't use my external HDD which has NTFS format. But thats in my galaxy note 8, haven't got my note 4 yet as I'm waiting for the bronze gold one.

Maybe you should try it with other device man, if it doesn't work, then it's time the change the cable. I'm about to reply it earlier, but posting something on xda trough samsung web browser take me to vBulletin page, I don't know why.
It is FAT32 that is needed. I originally had my 126GB PNY drive (just like yours) formatted NTFS and it did not work.
Interestingly, it appears to also work with exFAT.
For larger files than 4 gb you need to format you media in exfat format. Just plug into your pc and format in exfat. Ntfs is possible with root and programs like paragon or nexus .
