Hi,
I've got Nexus 5 with stock ROM. I can't stream from Google Play Music to Chromecast. I immediately get 'Could not play' message once I switch output to Chromecast. Plays fine on the phone itself. I also can stream to Chromecast just fine from computers at home/Chrome browser and I can also stream from my HTC Desire HD using that very Google Play Music. Something's wrong with Nexus 5 setup or Google Play Music itself. Any clues? Thanks!

Not sure....works just fine on my N5 to Chromecast.
Hmm... What's strange is that I can stream YouTube from my N5 to Chromecast fine as well, it's just GPM. The only thing that I did to the phone is rooted and flashed Dalvik and Bionic patches. Trying to troubleshoot, I flashed stock Dalvik back, but it did not help. OK, perhaps the next step would be to go clean and flash the whole stock ROM and wipe everything.
brianfields33, are you on stock ROM? Thanks.
This may seem obvious but have you updated everything on Google Play? The Play Services (I think that's it) needs to be latest version. Probably Google Music, too.
I have an LG G2 and have no issue casting GM.
Also, are these local files you are trying to stream? You cannot stream local files from GPM, only ones you actually have in your GPM library. You'll have to use other apps if you want to play local music files.
kimtyson - yes, everything was updated to the latest versions.
korockinout13 - I mentioned that I can play music without streaming. So, this is not type of a file issue. And I actually was streaming from the GPM library.
I figured the issue. I did a factory reset and got GPM streaming working. Then I started adding my apps. It appeared that Kaspersky Antivirus blocks streaming from GPM. That's strange since the same config works fine from HTC Desire HD. Anyway, it works now and I know where to dig further. Thanks all for replies!

I use MyNet to stream audio files from my QNAP NAS.
I can see all tracks without a problem. I can play my tracks too, but only just one.
MyNET plays only the track I select but does not automatically continue to the next one and so forth.
Any ideas why it will not play a complete album/folder/playlist?
I also have the same problem. If this program can't play multiple songs, playlists etc to my TV then is there am alternative.
I've just bought the Infinity and it has exactly the same problem. I was initially stunned that I could use it to stream music from my QNAP onto my TV, however only allowing one track at a time is pointless. It works fine if you play to the tablet, but fails multiplay when sending to another device.
This would be my most used app if this worked. Any ideas?
I have installed BTmono on my Galaxy S Blaze phone and it works for the most part, but for some reason Google Play Music app will not let me play any music when BTmono is On. I push the play button and nothing happens. The moment I turn off BTmono, Play Music starts playing like normal.
Is it just me? Is it just this model of phone? Or is it Google Play?
Edit: Here are some details on my issue.
HARDWARE:
Phone: SGH-T769
Bluetooth Headset: PS3 BT headset
SOFTWARE:
Android build: 4.0.4 T769UVLH5
Google Play Music: v4.3.615.481147
BTmono: 1.3.2
I don't know for sure (since I haven't used BTmono for years) but check if turned up your media sound all the way up on the BTApp. Turn it on and Try a different media player to see of that works..

Sorry I forgot to mention that Other players do work ( I have VPlayer for my network media). The issue is not that there is no sound, the issue is that when you push play nothing happens until I turn off BTmono.

I too have the same issue while trying to stream music via BT with Google Play Music. Everything else works flawlessly eg. YouTube, Video Player, even Pandora. However trying to hit the play button on Google Play Music, the app doesn't respond. Any help for me and the OP is gladly aprreciated.
Stock unhacked 32gb black.
For AVIs and MKVs, I've always used BSplayer without problems. I've put my first videos on the Nexus 5 today, and AVI and an MKV, and they play perfectly fine, except without video.
I got the impression this is a problem with my Nexus 5, but so I naturally cleared the BSplayer's app data and cache and uninstalled, rebooted the device, and reinstalled just to rule out a bad install as the problem. Sure enough, no video again.
So I go through the ritual of clearing, uninstalling, and rebooting, and tried to grab a different media player from the store to rule out media players as the problem, but this time I don't have the Play Store! WTF? I just reset my device and I'll keep you guys posted, but is anyone else having or hearing about these problems? Particularly the lack of video playback, because I can just side load the Play Store if I don't feel like resetting the device.
After resetting device, still no video playback in BSplayer, even after switching decoding modes. MXplayer is able to play the MKV file perfectly, but crashes with the AVI...
I am having same issue. BS Player is my go to. I don't have video when streaming along w local files.

Hi just got my new Nexus 5!!eek! It's amazing and when I tried to put all my music on to it, I opened Google play music, all the music was there but when I click on any song, it says music playback error cannot play track. This is really annoying. I have tried a reboot as I did some research (others are having this issue) and also I've tried settings, apps, media storage, clear data, which also has fixed most people's. I use mp3s from my own laptop and don't download them from Google play by the way. Help much appreciated!! Thanks!

Hi!
I have a S8+ that is not rooted.
I am trying to cast to my Chromecast using LocalCast and Kodi, but I cannot get it to work, and it is driving me mad!
I have redone all the steps 5 or 6 times trying to set it up, following different tutorials.
All the videos I've tried to cast from Kodi won't play.
I select a video, and nothing happens. I've tried selecting "Play using..." in Kodi, but with the same result, nothing happens.
I've tried VLC Player and MX Player also, but same thing there.
What am I doing wrong?
Please, xda, you're my only hope!
No one? I can't be the only one with this problem?
I guess there is nothing I can do. Thanks anyway, seriously.
same issue here mate, i think maybe the custom file is not configured correctly for either the s8 or the version of android on it.
if you long press and choose the local video player you will find the video plays fine ..its the play with an external player that is broken. and thats set as default as local cast
I'm having the same problem on multiple android devices, from looking at the kodi log it looks like kodi is not finding any installed external players, I don't know how to get kodi to find the external players so I am stuck too.
