[Q] IMEI=0 Mobile Network not working after flashing, missing EFS directory - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just flashed to stock firmware, because my cell phone wasn't updating to KitKat because of root.
But after flashing, my IMEI is now set to 0.
I just searched on the internet and many websites says that the EFS directory is where your IMEI number is stored.
But is missing, I tried to reflash and nothing hapenned. I didn't make backup.
I unlocked the bootloader, so I think I lost the warranty, and Motorola won't repair my cell phone.
Bought my cell phone from Brazil dual chip version.
Is there any solution? Anybody help me?

There is not efs directory on motorola.

Efs is a Samsung thing.

Thanks for letting me know, do you know one method to try to restore my original IMEI?
I tried many methods and got no results.

All I've read about this is people flashing the wrong radios. That's all I can say about it.

Yes, I think I did something I shoudn't when flashing.
I think I just lost my Moto G.
But first, I will send to Motorola and I hope they accept to fix it.
Otherwise I'll have to buy a new one.

I guess you'll have to flash your Moto G all over from the bootloader ... check this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2623587

Didn't work,
Doesn't update when I try to manually install the Riffbox driver.

Good news.
I sent my Moto G to Motorola and according to their website, the service order, seems that they will repair it.
Bootloader was unlocked, and according to the website, it voids warranty.
Repair situation: Being repaired
Estimated repair date: 08 March 2014
I'm from Brazil, I don't know if other countries would repair it too.

Common u can just rewrite ur IMEI to the phone if u know it or assign a random 15 digits number. Its easy. I've done it three times today on 2 diff devices.

With all due respect, your request makes no sense. Devices have either GSM radios (which include IMEI numbers) or CDMA radios (which include MEID numbers). What does your device have?
There is no way to wipe this number by flashing the device, period. What is it that you want to accomplish/get?

Which software you used to flash your phone?
If you used LGNPST, search for any .nv files
else
you'll have to approach any LG Service Center.
Please Note that It is not possible to edit/change from Others NVs.
I may be talking out my a$$ but it sounds like you need to reprogram/activate the phone. Have you tried dialing that?

Galaxy S4 i9500 Origin

In July I went to New York and bought an Galaxy S4 i9500 and messing around with the device I corrupt the EFS folder losing my IMEI.
Since it wasn't bought on my country (Brazil) I don't have any support nor warranty so I send it to a friend who owns a service box ( octopus probably) and flashing the ROM he asked me what is the country of origin of my device, since I bought in the US and this model in particular isn't supposed to be selled there I don't know wich country it came from and can't fix my device. The back label says it was made in china but i guess every other phone in the world was made there too .
(I bought it from the Samsung stand in the 5th ave Best Buy so it is original)
No problem
In phone setting option there is baseband version and build number from there you can find out where the device is from originally manufactured.
But now I think you have flashed other firmware and that original information is gone.Corruption of efs folder can be from many ways either flashing roms or wiping full internal memory by not following appropriate methods corectly.
You could have make efs backup in first place before experimenting with the phone.
But now you can try the following methods.
Try to flash latest modem to see if it help through odin.
One other method is that you can find your country of origin by your imei no which is on the box. Just call or email Samsung customer service in your country, I did in my case and they can tell you from the imei number the country of origin.

Ok Try to flash stock firmware and see if it helps and do tell me if you succeed.
You should be able to flash a stock firmware through ODIN and have the phone working again.
Then as mentioned above, before doing any work on the phone you should do a EFS backup, nandroid backup.
I remember with my previous phone (Galaxy Infuse) i was learning also how to root, tweak, modify the android and also "killed it". I was able to resurrect (in a manner of speak) the phone by loading the stock firmware the phone had when i first got it.
Good luck!
My friend said he repaired the device through the octopuss box and are sending me back. He couldnt upgrade to 4.3 because he didnt know the country of origin (like I said before). I call samsung to ask if they could say to me but here in Brazil the only company that really helps trough phone is Blizzard so I ended where I started. I found a website that using your serial number or IMEI can say where your device are from and I for my surprise it is indeed a chinese Galaxy S4. In Sammobile I found the CHN firmware that matched the time of fabrication (July) and probably its the stock firmware that I was looking for and one of the ones that I didnt tried to flash at the time.
The thing is now I'm too scared to try flashing this one to my mobile and ending ruining the device again and once more being forced to use my old ****ty iPhone. Any sugestions for me guys? (The device didnt arrive yet... i knew the serial and IMEI 'cause i noted down)
You don't have to flash firmware for country of origin. I'm in New Zealand and flash firmware from all over the world, the latest was UK firmware, with a modem extracted from Austrian firmware.
Just go to sammobile and make sure it's for i9500 and you'll be fine mate

What is the serial number of your phone? You can find it by beneath the battery or in settings, about device, status.

It's below the battery, next to the IMEI. It is a combination of letters and numbers and looks like this "S/N: XXXXXXXXXXX" (X= Letter/number)

I've never heard of this before and it seems extreme that you could lose IMEI number just by flashing a custom ROM. What method did you use?
I would have assumed fastboot flashing stock firmware should solve this.

Hi Sorry for late reply but I lost internet connection on Saturday morning.
When I have been doing some stuff in CWM recovery, had system and data partition mounted.
Then done rm -R * in root dir.
At this point I thought that my current dir is tmp.
After this I lost wifi and IMEI.
I manage to sort out wifi but not IMEI code.
Do you know how to fix this?
Since that I have been re-flashing stock rom and CWM rom but none of them help.
Chris
anyone can help to recover IMEI ?
Thanks
Changing/manually setting the IMEI is illegal afaik. And afaik assisting someone with that is also forbidden here on xda. We used to have a similar problem on the phone I came from, and there was a app which let you backup/restore your IMEI. You need to have a backup in order to restore it so this won't really help you...
This is what I'm talking about: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1591997
Edit.: There actually seems to be a way to manually set it but I'm not sure if it is device-specific.

You can find your Imei on the back of the phone.
If you google android 4.4 set imei you should find something from technostall which might help you
Good luck

I solved the problem, place to charge the phone, let him take some of the load and flash the original ROM, after that flash CM11, and run perfectmente, I think at first it was because I had done without the SIM, the second time you make with the SIM sunset ...

Yes It Does for most of the devices given you should know the proper method.
Mtk is different. It's not the same thing.
Any news?
Also I think the problem is that the imei is on the phone just not on the OS? (obviously, but...)
Maybe when we all reflashed to the original stock (and countless other stocks) they just didn't have the proper folder to access in order to identify what imei they're assigned?
Because every single time I've tried to manually rewrite the imei to it all the methods I've used are futile. Even the ones specially tailored to the Moto G's hardware SnapDragon - Qualcomm...
restore IMEI by Motorola service?
Same problem for me. I am really interested in some experience about restoring IMEI.
Motorola support phorum owner replied that Motorola service can recover IMEI (not covered by any kind of warranty of course).
I have tried to reflash factory ROM with and without inserted SIM card, but unfortunately no difference.
I have seen looking for solution, that for some people Android system sees IMEI=0, but the IME is still untouched using fastboot mode and "fastboot getvar" CLI command
For me it's empty using the "getvar" command as well.
The official service center in Germany told me that they mustn't repair selfmade imei problems :S
Lost IMEI
You could all try this new method claimed to be working but as I have not lost my IMEI I can't say, please report back if it works for you?

[Q] IMEI corrrupted

Bought a new S6 from Ebay that had been opened up to all networks. Discovered it was rooted which I didn't want so I flashed it with a stock Vodafone ROM. The phone worked fine for about 10 days then all of a sudden I got the message 'not registered on network' when I try to make call. It turns out that the IMEI number has changed. Does anyone know whether this type of problem can be sorted out?

I'm going to use a Vodafone ROM as this phone was originally on Vodafone before the seller had it opened up to all networks. THE ROM is G920FXXU1AOCZ_G920FVFG1AOC4_G920FXXU1AOCW_HOME.tar.md5. Does this sound like the right one? Sorry for all the questions - I'm new to this. The other thing worth mentioning is the IMEI at the moment is 350000000000006. Where could this have come from? Any ideas? It's weird because the original IMEI was in tact for about 10 days before it changed to the one above. Any help at all would be appreciated

Corrupt imei is known issue when flashing and rooted. That's why firdt thing you do when rooting, is you backup your stock rom together with efs folder. Idk which is your stock rom, you have to do some research, download that rom and use odin to go back to stock. You will lose everything you got on the phone btw so save any pictures or music.

Bring S6 back to Samsung for repair
My guess is the phone you bought was stolen and after 10 days it got blacklisted.
Or the seller claimed he lost his phone to insurance company, sold it you, got a new one on insurance, and then after the 10 days the "lost" phone (your phone) got blacklisted.

The same story, any help?
How I can fix this? Please help
Get Chimera tool and you should be able to fix it no problem
Did you manage to fix?
My baseband shows as attached after installing vador rom so I'm confused
If you didn't formatted/wipe the efs/nvbackup, there's a chance you can retrieve your imei.
But if it doesn't, the only way is to bring it up to Samsung or a good phone technicians to repair or get you a new branded IMEI for your phone. Mine was fixed by a technician using Octopus box tool.
You may try my method, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63693480&postcount=28
