Moto G H+ - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
I grabbed the moto g from play store as a backup device for travel etc. I have a few questions. I thought this device had H+? It only shows 3g and 2g? I'm on att and I know they have h+. Why didn't google include a h+ indicator? Thanks

Its there. Check your network or the network settings. Here you go with the H+ icon present on my Moto G.

AFAIK the US versions of the Moto G show only 3G even if they are using HSDPA+ connection. It is only cosmetic issue, however if you search the themes/apps section there should be some workaround without flashing non-US ROMs.
EDIT: Here you are: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2600654 You will need root to use this, and I am not sure if its compatible with GPE.

Thanks guys! It does show h+ under settings but no icon. You're right cosmetic issue.

The GPE edition wont handle HSPA+ unless you are in a refarmed Tmobile area.

I'm on att and hspa+ is every where. Online it also states it supports att h+ 2100 band and T-Mobile uses the 1900.

T-Mobile speed issues

I've been using a Lumia 520 prior to my Moto G (US version). It appears both have the same AWS bands to take advantage of T Mobiles HSPA+ bands. However I've seen significantly slower rates on the Moto G than the 520. I tested a few times and am getting 4-8 mbps on the Moto G, but 12-15 mbps on the 520 using the same sim card with various tests.
I've also checked the APN settings (using the epc.tmobile.com version) and they are the same.
This is on the prepaid $30 a month scheme.
Is there anything else I'm missing in understanding the speed differences?
it is also showing in About/Phone as HSPA+ mobile network type.
TIA
@emailrob is the Lumia 520 a T-Mobile phone or an unlocked phone. It is possible that the speed problem is because the Moto G doesn't have all of the bands for HSPA+, just a few. Or maybe it was a heavy traffic day when you tested. My tests on T-Mobile have ranged from 2mbps to 19. Data always has been a temperamental child.

man your lucky im stuck at .12 mb for speeds on tmobile and have no idea why it says im on hspa+ but it wont even load my apps at all -_-
Thanks for the replies. The 520 was an ATT device here http://slickdeals.net/f/6273346-at-...repaid-windows-8-smartphone-85-free-shipping?
I just tested at work and the Moto G is getting 1.83 mpbs! This is crazy. I thought the Moto G had all the T Mobile bands to take advantage of HSPA+ (as it says I'm connected to that all the time)?
thats what i thought to -_- i dont understand why other people get 8 to 10 mb for speeds and other get crappy speeds on same network. and i know for a fact i got good covareage in my area.

Yes. I just can't understand how the bands are apparently the same on the 520 and the G, but the speeds are crazy different. So the bands CANNOT be the same. If I have to change phones again (to something like a nexus 5 or a Moto X) I'll have to do diligence again!
Replying to my own post. Suffice to say now the phone has LTE under Tmo I'm pretty happy it was a painless transfer (moto x came with a sim card already), quick call to tmo and they transferred my $30 a month plan over.

You have to specify 3G as your preferred network ion Wireless Networks/Network mode. I went from never getting speeds above 1Mbps to 7Mbps everywhere.

That didn't work. The only way I 'fixed' it was by using the Tmo version of the Moto X. Moto G, for me, never worked at the faster speeds.

Oneplus one on Koodo, no LTE

I've tried everything! Have the 16gb version, edited apns, deleted certain areas, re added. Checked info screen.
I got lte on my nexus 4 with the exact same settings from koodo. Not sure why the oneplus won't pick it up..
Probably have the Chinese version which lacks the LTE bands for koodo. LTE well only work with Rogers or Fido on the Chinese version.

Does the back of your phone have Cyanogen in the back? What is your baseband radio in Settings->Display?

I'm not familiar with the Canadian bands, but you have to look at the Chinese OPO and compare that with the Koodo LTE bands.
It could be possible that your friend has the Chinese version and is able to get LTE on Bell but not on Koodo or he has international which works.
Do the research and see if its compatible to begin with.

Mobile services provided by Koodo use Telus Mobility's CDMA, HSPA+ and LTE networks. CDMA devices, however, have been discontinued by Koodo outside of Northern Ontario and Manitoba.[9] Koodo Mobile's CDMA and HSPA networks use the 800 MHz and 1900 MHz frequencies while their LTE network uses 1700/2100 MHz (AWS).

Here's a list of LTE bands that North American companies use.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks#Americas
It looks like Bell uses LTE bands 4,7,and 17 while Koodo(which is owned by Telus) only has band 4. If the back of your phone doesn't have Cyanogen written at the bottom then you have the chinese model. I'm sure Telus may eventually roll out more LTE bands but for now you might be out of luck.

Anybody using Straight Talk on the Z3?

I just got a D6603, and I use straight talk. I use the AT&T sim card they have. It was a micro SIM, but I had T-Mobile cut it to a NANO sim. It actually used to be a regular SD card, but has been cut down twice. I noticed though that I'm not getting connected to LTE, only HSPA+. When I was using this sim card as a micro sim on my GS4, it connected to LTE fine, but this Z3 isn't connecting to LTE. Anyone know what might be wrong?
I'm currently using it on straight talk's att sim and I get LTE. As for the reason of LTE issues with the t-mobile sim, check the apns and if the issue still persists check the bands that t-mobile requires. I think the D6603 model should support all the bands, but I it doesn't hurt to double check.

In mobile network settings, make sure you have LTE enabled. For some reason mine was on HSPA only from the factory.
Xperia Z3 Works on ST
I am using it and it works correctly for me with no issues. I cant get MMS text messages to go despite setting up my APN settings as recommended but then again I don't use that very often. I purchased the AT&T type SIM and purchased my Xperia Z3C from the Sony website so it came unlocked from factory. I actually filed down and cut the SIM to Nano myself and had no issues in getting LTE speeds. Be sure to select LTE/WCDMA/GSM in your Mobile options. It will drain your battery a little faster but does provide LTE sppeds for data.

My phone doesn't show LTE in the list.
Does that mean that my phone doesn't have LTE on it?
Its a 6603 bought in UK from 3.

Yours probably refers to 4g, as does mine (on EE, in the UK), which is essentially the same as LTE. Do a speed test; if you're getting up to 70 megs then you're good!

Xiaomi Mi 4

Does anyone know if this Mi 4 or any of the other phones work out of box in canada?
If not, is there a way to get it working on LTE ?
THanks,
Only LTE bands it has out of the box are 1,3 and 41. I am on AT&T in US and no LTE. Edited NV values successfully but no additional LTE bands were enabled.

That is unfortunate to hear, what is the fastest connectivity you're getting?
I'm on the AT&T equivalent in Canada known as Rogers.
About 7MB/S which is terrible. I like MIUI and this device is nice quality. Dare I say it has the feel of an iPhone but is loaded with Android so the best of both worlds (I personally detest the closed source IOS). So I'm suffering with no LTE just to use the MI4 but I've got a ZTE Axon for a backup if I need a LTE compatible device. Always near WIFI so it's not often. I will say, no dropped calls or texts with it and I've had it a couple weeks. Call quality is excellent.
Best you can get is 3G or H+. Also in Canada on Fido
dont buy the chinese LTE edition. i hear that does not even do 3g. the wcdma (w) variant does 3g/H+

I have the China Union LTE model and it has 3G on AT&T.
I am not doubting you. But there are 2 LTE variants.

TDD LTE <<< GSM 2G ok but no WCDMA 3G
FDD LTE <<< This is the Western one with WCDMA (3G) support

T-Mobile USA

Anyone who already received their OP6 can me tell if they can connect to all the LTE bands including the new LTE band 71. Also how is the reception on the phone
I'll be getting mine tomorrow. So should be able to post up results then. But, the specs on the phone state band 71 is supported. It's just a matter of if 71 is in your area....
No band 71 in my area or I'd test that for you. Otherwise it is working perfectly on T-Mobile for me
I can't confirm what bands it was using, but I was able to get 120Mb/s via a LTE speedtest. I also confirmed VoLTE and WiFi calling work without issue.

And while doing a 2nd LTE speedtest I received a phone call, so did test while talking on the phone

download app called cellmapper https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cellmapper.net.cellmapper&hl=en_US
I am on TMobile US and have been using WiFi calling and HD VoLTE. I haven't seen band 71 yet, but I don't know if it's in my area. Another app that works to check bands is LTE Discovery - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.simplyadvanced.ltediscovery
I would also like to know if there is anything extra you have to do to turn on Wi-Fi calling.

Since I don't see the OnePlus 6 in the T-Mobile store, I'm assuming there is no T-Mobile-specific hardware/software version (as is typical with Samsung)?
Please confirm that OnePlus 6 could be bought from OnePlus store, and by following the above steps, all T-mobile features would be available? (Wi-Fi Calling, VoLTE, Tethering)

I bought my op6 from OnePlus store. I'm on T-Mobile in North Carolina and I enabled Volte & WiFi Calling via those steps. I see the tethering/mobile hotspot setting as well but I've not tested it.
Yes this phone connects to all of T-Mobiles towers it has even more bands then the T-Mobile s9+ that's why I got ride of that phone and got this one.
Teathering works
