i bet its somewhere in between being active and shutdown.. press on the power button for 15-20 seconds straight, without letting go. this should reboot it.

Hello fellow XDA members.
I've been with my beloved Nexus S for a little over a year now. We've been through thick and thin. Until now.
My power button is broken (along with a lot of other nexus s users that I found out by research), but I was able to bare with it by maneuvers with my software (volume rocker wake). It would act as if it's being pressed down constantly, so it would automatically power on when a battery is inserted.
However, this situation is different. I've done research on this one too, and it also seems common. While using my phone as normal (around 20% battery), the screen just turned black and the phone crashed. Seemed like a common kernel issue. So I battery pull, and the phone won't power on.The charging animation still appears if I connect it to a charger or USB.
As I woke up for work the next morning, I brought my phone along with me. It turned on at a random time while it was in my hand, as it would always do if I were to insert a battery. The phone worked for about a week until the same problem happened again.
I've tried rebooting it with ADB, but it's not recognized. I've tried inserting the battery while it's connected to the charger. Nope. Simultaneous button presses, pounding the power button, you name it. I've also tried a different battery, so I know it's not a battery issue.
I have suspicion it has to due with Jellybean, as several other users experience a problem similar to mine, but much more severe (no charging animation).
I'm running Pacman Rom v 18 with Marmite 7.0 Kernel.
Please, for the love of the Lord, can someone please aid me in finding a solution or inform me of a known one?
Thanks!
Please anybody? I really need a solution ASAP! Thanks again!
I'm sorry for the excessive bumping, but I'm just extremely desperate at this point. I cannot afford to go another day without my phone as I'm losing too much business. Does anyone know a solution or anything to try?
When its on the charger does the screen show that it is charging? Or is it just a blank screen and you "assume" that it is charging ?
Could be the kernal, have you flashed another rom ?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Yes, it shows the charging animation, so there's life.
I think its the kernel and the rom combo. But the fact is that I can't even access the phone right now. Any solutions? And my power button is broken.
Hmm so there is no way to access recovery?

There was no way. But the phone turned back on by itself last morning again. I instantly changed my ROM to RasbeanJelly and Matr1x 24.5 CFS. Let's see if the problem comes back.
Thanks anyway, and ill post back here for updates!

Well i was in the middle of typing towards my mom on whatsapp and my screen turned off and no response at all from the phone.
Holding power button nor plugging in the device gives any sign of life.
The battery was still well over half full and i have never had issues with batterylife before.
So did my One S really just die on me?! How could this had happened?!
I never did any OC or changed kernels, only used Venom (for Sense 4+) and Trickdroid (for Sense 5) roms..

Tried connecting the phone to PC?
For how long do you hold power button? Try 15/20/30 seconds.

1. Yep did, nothing happens. At least, not in the past ~30min..
2. I have tried holding it down for 5min already, but i really think it died on me.. If only i could pull the damn battery...
Just to be 100% sure it's off hold the power button for around 10 sec even if lights don't flash... Then leave it on charge for 24hr or so u may not get the charging light straight away; once it's charged see if u can access bootloader

Maybe you can try changing USB cables and try charging it for a while with PC. It's worked for some guys.
Otherwise, it's time for a warranty claim.

Yeah doing that now, this worked before when the battery was fully drained on other phones. But since my battery wasn't even half way empty, i doubt it's the same problem.

Yeah already wrote to Elevate, got the phone from them not even 6 months ago..
Really surprises me how this phone has nothing but issues, while my old Sensation is still alive and kicking without a single issue :|
Donno what i did, but i picked up the phone, smashed it a couple of times in the palm of my hand out of anger and it turned on with still 56% battery, so it wasn't that.
I'm just glad it started working again, but **** knows what happened there, surely wasn't fun :|

lol, I believe that is called a "technical tap" Well now you know that it is a hardware problem. (and will most likely happen again)
Well i leave my mail with Elevate and see what they can do for me.
I don't wanna move away from the One S yet tho

Man !!!! This is obvious.
When your Battery is toooooooo low then phone can't boot, so orange light blinks means Battery is collecting some power to boot at least. It will take 2-3 minutes, then orange light will get stable. Means now you can boot your device.
This is NORMAL !!!

I know its normal but i charged it for 2 hours and the mobile wasnt charging at all , thats why I posted on XDA .

THANKS EVERYONE!

You can also boot in recovery and clear your battery stats then make two cycles charging/full discharging, as the charging time is 8h+
Hi,
Been a happy camper since purchase. Am currently on fusionjacks's slimsaber omni marshmallow rom. All was normal today but an hour ago took the phone out of my pocket and it seems dead - won't turn on, doesn't appear to be charging...nothing.
There doesn't appear to be any physical damage and it wasn't knocked or dropped.
I've tried long holding on/off button, trying to boot to recovery and bootloader - nothing
Any ideas??
Maybe the battery is discharged. You should plug it in and let it charge for a while

I had the same issue, after searching in all the forums I found an odd solution.
Just press the power button for like, 30s or until it restarts.
I was scared because I'm a flashaholic, but everything returned to normal.
Hope it helps.

Hi Guys,
I need help here. I can't send the phone back for warranty because I've imported it from else where. Also I didnt root it or install any mods or whatsoever. Running 7.1.2
I was just surfing the net, nothing fancy was loaded. It was in battery saver mode which means it should be in the range of 20ish% when all of a sudden it just shut down. Thinking it was perhaps low on battery and it shut down by itself I put it to charge, but there was no indication that it was charging.
I tried turning it on by holding on to the power button for almost a minute and nothing happens even when I waited for 10 mins and try again.
So i tried going to recovery mode but pressing power and vol. down button, after waiting for almost a minute there was a short vibration and thats it. And if I continue holding on to it, there was 5-6 short vibrations.
Is there anyone who can help me on this?
Thanks.

Thanks for the reply!
Is there anything I can do about it? What about the vibrations I get when I hold the vol down and power button does it mean anything?
Maybe test the charger on a different device to be certain there is power going to the phone. Then leave it plugged in, walk away for 1 hour. Come back and try again... I've had devices seem to be completely dead because there was literally nothing in the battery. Plugged them in for a while, came back, worked like a charm. Of course this might be a long shot. Still worth a try. Good luck!

Tak the battery Out.
Rub the (+ & -) Polaris on your hair or a carpet (so it gets an electric energy) for 30 seconds.
Now place your tongue on tye polarises if you fell an electric shocked your thongue that means battery works fine.
Or else Its A problem in the battery

Couple months back my pixel turned off while using it and called support, they replaced it under warranty. I never found out why it went dead. I know this don't help..

Just a quick update. I found a phone repair company whom were willing and is able to try repair my phone.
Will be back to post their findings if they are indeed able to do it.
Did you ever get this issue sorted?
I have the exact same problem.
