I apologize in advance if this is in the wrong section, feel free to move it if so. I have a Samsung Galaxy Prevail 2 that I would like to swap memory with (internal to external) so that there is more room on my phone for apps. I have tried a few programs from the play store, and so far I'm having no success. My phone is rooted, and has SU access. It's running android 4.1.2 (ICS?) and the model number is SPH-M840. ANY help on this matter would be GREATLY appreciated. This has been driving me crazy, and there has to be a way to do this with my phone...right? Thank you!
Use Link2SD
It works fine on all devices.

you do not need to use their kernal which is given in thread... just install init.d support use this thread

or for init.d support for your stock rom, run attached .zip file from recovery...

Like2SD was the first program I tried. When I go to move an app to the SD card, it tells me:
"app2sd is not supported by your device. Because your device has a primary external storage which is emulated from the internal storage."
I can link the files if I want, but doing that doesn't do much on saving space. Thanks!

Sorry, it did not work. I followed the instructions carefully, and I keep getting the same error that I cannot move apps to the sd card because my device doesn't support apps2sd because my external storage is emulated from internal storage. Thanks anyway, though

Hi,
just give one more shot...
repartition your sd card....
first check your kernal support swapping or not with swapper script....
if doesn't support, search for a kernal for your device which support swapping & follow the procedure... it must work...
-rkk
Assuming you have root, search the store for "FolderMount [ROOT]".

Don't worry, I'm not giving up so easily...there HAS to be a way to do this with my phone. Maybe I should try using a different partition, like ext4 or ext3? I know ext2 is the one that is said to work the most, but it's obviously not working. Do you the partitions have to be set as "active" for this to work? Where can I find the kernal script? Thanks for the help!

Actually, that was the very first one I tried. I followed the instructions exactly and still no luck. That program doesn't really give clear directions on how you're supposed to use it. I tried a few other methods from this message board and still nothing...

What's strange about using that method, is when I swap, my memory card changes to 1.96 GB (which is what the internal normally is) but the internal stays at 1.96 GB. So than I have both of my memory, internal and external at 1.96 GB and I have to to uninstall the program and reset my phone for the external to go back to 7.96 GB which is the size of the card I have. It's a scandisk card...do you think that makes a difference?

2. define ext2, ext3, ext4, fat32, swap size, (there might be a bit more i jsut cant think of any right now)
3. do u reccomend doing this with cwm? iv come across a few posts where people have been saying thing could brick your phone
4. apperntly cwm has some built in partition? i dont really know..
5. how would I do this this with cwm?

Make sure you backup your sdcard before you partition or you'll lose your important files.

EXT4 is the file system (like FAT or NTFS but for Linux based). Swap is the partition used sort of like ram (just slower) in the way that temporary files are stored there for quick access.

I think people mentioned to do it through clockword mod? I think I've seen an option down there.
I have no idea why you'd want to, though. I can't really see any benefit and it would only complicate things.
Only reason to partition sdcard to have an ext partition is for people like me that have way too many apps to install that normally wouldn't fit on the g2x's internal storage. Even putting apps to SD wouldn't allow my setup of over 600 apps to my phone without an app called link2sd, currently rocking a 12gb ext3 partition on my 32gb class 10 Lexar sdcard. Call me crazy but I love having all my apps available any time I need, my phone is a beast I tell ya, with all the stress I put in it its still blazingly quick!

yupp lol iv filled my sd card up so thats how i stumbles across this
First off let me thank everyone who is going to help me through my issue.
Everything started yesterday when I got a16 gigabytes new SD Micro card. I originally got the card so I can move my applications from the internal 16 gigabytes storage to that SD Micro card . After searching through the web I have realized that I cannot move my applications to the external memory until I root my device and so I did it using a guide from this website. after rooting my device I downloaded every application in play store that is used to move applications from the internal memory to the external one.And for some reason all of them failed'Someof them said that there is no enough memory. and some others said I have no External memory inserted "already checked in settings and it says external memory 14.98 Gb free. After that i read another guide which Said I should get Rom manager to partition my memory card.and I did download the Rom manager . I tried to partition but it said I don't have CWM , and it asked ifit should install it so I accepted. mydevice wasn't listed. I chose a random one and now I'm afraid I have broken my 3 days old note 10.1 . Could anyone help me please with
1. The Sd micro card issue(apps From internal memory't external memory.)
2. The random CWM device that I have downloaded and maybe installed.
3. Partitioning my card (if that's going to help.)
4. I'm new to android and have no idea what rooting is "although I did it anyways" and how I Can use rooting
Rooted note 10.1
Thank you again <3
Edit 1- 8 views no help? Id really appreciate it if anyone could help me.
I think some sort of reply will help you get started...
Note 10.1 only supports FAT 32. not NTFS. So you have to format your SDcard properly to begin with. I believe its true, you need to root your device to get AppOnSD support.
NEVER flash anything that is not intended SPECIFIC for your device. Always do a backup so you can restore it from an image if you happen to soft brick it.
Rooting pretty much allows you to get "super user" functionality. Most notably the ability to access system files.

I'll try to help with fixing your Note.
Can you get into download mode? Start with power off and press volume down and power at the same time.
If so download Check Fus (GGI version) from fus.nanzen.se and make you have Odin and the Samsung drivers as described in the how to root thread.
Check the back of your Note for version number; N8000, N8010 or N8013. Use Check Fus to download the correct rom for your country. If not the nearest one.
Follow the how to root guide (sticky in development) that explains how to install the rom. This should put you back where you started. Now, read a lot. Don't use Rom Manager.
http://rootgalaxynote.com/galaxy-note-10-1-root/how-to-root-galaxy-note-10-1/ How to root instructions. Your replacing the rom from the instructions with the one you downloaded from Check Fus.

I said I think I broke my note because I downloaded and installed a random cmw from Rom manager when I tried partition my sd card .
And I have a problem moving apps to the sd card. In app2sd it says it's emulated andin droids it says memory is full.
Then I'll back out. I've no experience of apps2sd on the Note. Have had no cause to use it. I strongly suggest you read a lot more before you attempt anything else involving door, partitions or CWM.

Hello there, I'm getting a problem linking my apps to sd-ext. I partitioned my sd-card. Mounted script (in link2sd I choosed sd-ext4 not sure if doing right). It told me to reboot. I did. Then when I tried to link my random picked pre-installed app
it showed and error i guess like 'read only file system' or something. No.idea how to fix it. Help needed.
Correct me if I'm doing wrong. Any reason why I'm facing this error. Or tell me your own steps.
Extra Info: using CM10 beta #3. But tried it on CM9 #11 and faced the same problem.
Thank you!
I promise I'll hit the 'Thanks' button.

I've got a question to devs here. Can someone edit TZ4.1 kernel, to mount external sd-card (i've got 32gig class 10/uhs-1) as internal? I've tried to edit init.sony.rc, but that edited kernel by me didn't work. I see no point in using that internal memory. If someone could help me with that, PM me (I just want this for my personal usage, and won't republish this anywhere).
Please help me, only this one thing is stopping me from using KK on my phone. I've tried a lot of tutorials, kitchens, scripts on Win/Linux machine, it never worked. Sometimes I could see TZ logo and boot into TWRP, but couldn't boot into system, or it just rebooted itself after 5secs of black screen.

Using external as internal is risky. Could damage your card so very badly.
I will make you ramdisk when I get home (6-8 hours),but you will need to pack it yourself, because I don't want to reshare varun's work.

I know, but I'm a bit tired of FolderMount, because SwiftKey is showing me an error every boot, and I need to download dictionaries again, and when I've got no Internet coverage except 2G, then it's painful to do. And I bet it's faster than internal storage (I may be wrong)

Hi all,
This is my first post in XDA but I've been a regular reader as a guest. I've developed an app(Apps2SD) to move/link apps from internal storage to external SD card with lots of other cool features.
Apps2SD has evolved from being an app which moves app data to sd card to an all in one app with many cool features.

Prerequisites:
Device needs to be rooted
Root permission should be granted to Apps2SD
2 partitions on external SD card (use Apps2SD partition tool to create 2nd partition). 1st partition should be FAT/exFat partition, this is your standard SD card storage. The second partition is used as the internal storage for linked application files and can be ext2, ext3, ext4 or f2fs.

let me first congratulate you on making such a useful app which has so many features .Does this app has any device limitations .
thanks , Rahul
Thank you Rahul,
There is no device restriction apart from Android version. The app is supported on android 2.3+.
The app won't partition my 32gb card on a Galaxy Tab 4. It keeps instructing me to reboot. Once I do, the app auto-starts, attempts to partition, then fails. Again, it instructs me to reboot. I never make it past this point. I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have. Thanks for the app and your time.

Hi Cablespider,
Do you have busybox installed? can you check if fdisk is available in your busybox version.

The partition tool should work now. I've updated the apk in google play. It should be available after 3-4 hours.
Thanks,
Vicky

Thanks for the information.I tried it on my Samsung S5 and it works .The interface and visualizations provided to showcase the space used by different files are really impressive and easy to handle.
good app.
link2sd and apps2sd when used together have conflicts.
App needs stability. every reboot asks for another soft reboot to mount partition.

Please let me know your device name and android version. Ideally Link2SD and Apps2SD should not be used together. Any app linked by Link2SD will be detected by Apps2SD. If you still want to use them together make sure to deselect auto linking in Link2SD or Apps2SD settings.
As for the post reboot issue. Can you recreate the mount script from Apps2SD, reboot and try again. If the problem still persist send me the content of /system/etc/install-recovery.sh file.
running moto e 5.1.1
using only apps2sd solved the issue. and mount scripts were done from apps2sd itself

Great. Please rate and review on google play if you like the app.
but every restart forced a soft reboot to make it work.
jus fix that, it'll be great.

Can you update to latest version, recreate mount script from the app, reboot and try again.

I can not get it to work with my samsung tab 4 7.0in. I have link every option in setting, but applications still install in tablet internal storage. Tablet still showing Low on storage memory notification.....
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can you send me the Android version. Also are you able to Link/Move apps manually? Also do you mean after selecting all the options in auto link option, newly installed apps are not being moved to SD card?
Please note that Auto link Settings is for newly installed applications. To link existing apps select the app and link individually or use Multi select to link in batch.

It still running it original android version of 4.0.2. Yes, the newly installed apps are not being moved to the SD card. Everytimes I install new apps my internal storage decreases. I will try further more to see....
Thanks
