cannot install custom recovery on xt912 - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been trying to install a custom recovery on this xt912 for 3 days and nothing seems to work. when I use the installers from apk, it says that it installs but it will not boot into recovery. i have tried every key combination I can think of but nothing seems to work. The device is rooted and running 4.1.2.
also everytime I boot/reboot the device it starts in the fastboot flasher setup and I have to use the 3 key combo to get into the boot loader to get the phone to boot.
I would sure like some help on this, Thanks

this is a xt925/926 forum, perhaps you should try posting in the forum for your model.

You could install the Goo Manager app from the Play Store and install a recovery from the app.

Download goo manager and install twrp from there. Its easy and should take only a minute or two. If u are confused on how to do it, go to the TWRP thread in development.

Twrp hands down over cwm. Plus many of the hox custom ROMs require Twrp.
TWRP is the only officially supported recovery for the HOX right now. CWM is unofficial and contains some bugs last time I checked.

[Q] Uninstall TWRP on Razr HD

Flashed TWRP to make a backup of my stock rom, but now I can't get rid of it to get back into a stock recovery to apply a ota.zip - is there any way to remove the twrp recovery?
you need to flash the correct recovery.img with fastboot. One can be found in the Droid RAZR HD utility HERE. However, I don't know what version device you got or if there are any differences between recoveries from one version to another. so, be careful.
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

Stuck on the Moto Logo

I decided to flash cyanogen mod. I downloaded a stable release from rom manager onto my sd card, booted into recovery and now I am stuck on the M. And of course you can't get to cwm to restore a backup unless the devise boots, I tried pulling the battery to see if it would boot into cwm like it was supposed to but it doesnt. So looks like I need to flash and I have no idea how to do that on this phone. So if someone could link me the files and give me some basic instructions to follow that would be awsome.
Thanks

Finally back up and running it took me some time since wifi didnt work on .608, so I followed this procedure. http://rootzwiki.com/topic/23207-how-to-sbf-unbricking-root-d2g-629/
It works good for unbricking, a little complicated if you dont have a data connection like me and wifi doesnt work on the flash, so I skipped ota and lost root but oh well. I can root again tomorrow. So does anyone know what could have possibly happened when I flashed cyanogen mod through cwm because thats what caused my brick.
which cm7? official is still flashed on froyo 2.2

unless you know the build history, roms from rom manager, should not be used on D2G

lastest looks like Pooka-CM4D2G-GB-20120519
I did follow the droid bootstrap instructions I just figured I could flash anything for the droid 2 honestly I didn't know that the global and regular droid 2 were that different guess I learned that the hard way but at least I know now and I learned how to root and sbf all in one night.

I used the link you provided me with and the one you said was the latest
so you didn't flash gapps?
I don't see a gapps link, in this thread
which is fine, but if you flash wrong one, you may bootloop
cm roms do not come with google apps like play, gmail....
how long did you let it run, sometimes it can take a couple of mins, to boot first time
you may need to also wipe dalvik cache in advanced, that was recommended many time for D2G roms, but will add time to first boot

If there is some kind of chat or something or exact steps i could have to flash this and get it to boot that would be great. I know on my samsung continuum we use the irc to chat.
could be bad download, download again and compare md5 checksums

Honestly is Cm even good on the droid 2? Because at this pint with all these failed flashes and the phone not being able to get into cwm like a regular phone it makes it harder to get back because you can't just restore a nandroid back up. So in your opinion is it honestly worth it, or are there better roms out there for this phone?
whether or not it's worth it, is up to you
not a lot of choices for D2G, I liked CM9 and miui

Out of all the flashes I have tried it boot loops and its annoying to have to go and flash in RSD because I cant boot into recovery like I can on a normal phone where the recovery is overwritten. So with all these bad flashes I have kind of given up on this droid 2 and its just on stock rooted. Usually when I boot loop on my continuum i just jump into recovery and re flash with this phone I cant.
why are you using rsd lite? how are you rooting?
just use D2G_4.5.629_SBF-and-RootCD.iso

[ROOT] Straight Talk: Samsung Galaxy Centura

It's been successfully rooted with POOT.
It has also been rooted via CWM by Area51 Here for CWM and then Here for Root! I did find some ROM development going on at Area51 as well here. Area51's CWM does not appear to play nice with any phone rooted with Poot however so it's best to install CWM from Area51 first and then use their root method.

The root method used at A51 is out-of-date, and can't be updated. Therefore, you'll continuously receive an update notification and won't be able to stop it.

Not True! All you have to do is just not install the update when it boots you into CWM. This will be fixed when they complete the ROM they're working on. I don't get update reminders after accepting the first one and just not installing it once in recovery mode at the install screen!

You might want to wait for Area51 to complete their first ROM for the phone. Currently it has an annoying update that keeps trying to install over the rooted stock OS that will break root if you install it. Of course you can just keep clicking on accept and then selecting NO when you get to the install update screen in CWM like I do, but it's an annoyance.

Does anyone know what has become of Androidarea51 ??

[Q] Trouble after flashing ARHD 8.1

Hey, I have been flashing stock kernel ROMs on my new HTC One M8 without any trouble, except for when I want to run ARHD 8.1
I am on 4.4.2, fully rooted and S-Off, and the flash and AROMA installation breezes through no problem.. the phone goes black for a while then comes back on in TWRP .... from there i reboot, and when it brings me to the Android setup screen i cannot continue due to persistent error messages stating that "Unfortunately com.systemui has stopped" .. another process or two also stop and persist via error dialog (SmartcardService i believe is one, i can double check if i really need to).
I am forced to 'adb reboot recovery' through command prompt and restore my nandroid backup.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, thank you.. :cyclops::good:

I am having the same exact problems. Errors keep popping up after the install. Tried wiping in recovery instead of aroma still didn't work. I'm on firmware 1.55.605.2. Very perplexed. Could be that the firmware needs to be downgraded to match the firmware of the rom. For Verizon, their last firmware update was what i said above. This particular rom is based off firmware 1.54.401.10. Not sure if this has something to do with it, but would love to find a solution as I really want to try out this rom.

I am having one problem with the rom though. The gps is not locking in. I looked around in the forum but couldn't find a fix.
