Hi, I was just wondering if there were any roms currently released for the N5 with asian system language available (particularly chinese)? I know there are several for older phones like the S3 but I'm not too sure about this relatively new phone and I wanted to ask if anyone knew before I made the purchase thanks!!

Does this answer your question? I'm not sure if those are Chinese specific characters/letters. Hopefully I've answered your question.

Sorry, I just realized that your question was about custom ROM's and not stock. I'm more than sure that most custom ROM's will support the Chinese language and if not they will most likely have a flashable zip that will enable the Chinese language.

Oh, it's fine - I was thinking that flashing a custom rom was the only way to enable other languages (for example the only asian language that samsung stock firmware supports is korean). If other languages are supported on stock that's even better! Did you get your phone from the google play store?

Technically I got it from the Play store. I traded my Note 3, plus the person I traded with gave me cash. He bought the Nexus 5 from the Play Store and never used it/activated it. He showed me the receipt.
I'm assuming the Nexus 5 supports the "Chinese" specific language natively right?

I thought the screen shot I showed you shows some Asian languages? If any of those are Chinese then it definitely supports the Chinese language. I just don't know what "Chinese" specific language look like.

I'm Chinese and yes the N5 does support Chinese. You need to get the google pinyin IME from the play store to type in Chinese though.
Or you can just use stock ROM with Xposed Framework + GravityBox in case your favorite ROM doesn't support Chinese language But I'm pretty sure most of them have Chinese Language.

You’ll need to flash a Chinese ROM from Singapore or Hong Kong to accomplish what you want. Singapore Rom would have both Simplified Chinese and English. Hong Kong ROM would have Complex Chinese and English.
I would suggest you to check the Forums in SG and HK and ask for help.

Here's one I found from a chinese forum: http://bbs.gfan.com/android-3326445-1-1.html or http://blog.iquens.com/rom/2760.html
NOTE: I have not flashed it personally and cannot say whether it works or not! Flash at your own risk, I'm not responsible for any damages costed.
I'm in the same situation. I got the S2 (I777) from ATT thinking it'd have the Chinese option in settings > Language (like HTC phones) but it doesn't... now I'm reading the Singapore version has simplified Chinese (the one I need). But the main problem is that I DON'T know Chinese. The phone isn't for me, it's for my in-law who doesn't know English at all.
I guess, I've got no choice but to root, don't I? However, coming to think of it. Is that the only choice? I can't believe that the only choice to add a language is to flash a new ROM, it's just UNBELIEVABLE. I think I read someone saying that extracting the apk with the language from another ROM would work. I got a hold of a ROM, HK version. But I've got no idea how I could extract it, and IF, install it in the stock ROM (Btw, no need to root for that, right?)
Thank you,
The ICS Leak has Chinese under Language and Settings.

It does? Really? The HK ROM I got is already ICS. But honestly I'd prefer with the American version if it does have the option already. Having said that, I've learned that the leaked version isn't that stable. I don't know how true that might be.
Thanks,

Is there no other way besides loading an Asian ROM?

Not sure myself, back on my Desire HD, I could add and remove locales and lanuages by changing the xml files on a CWM zip, Samsung doesn't seem to have those files, maybe in a different location?

Now that the S4 has Kit Kat and Emoji, you've probably noticed that the emoji are different from the Google and IOS ones.
This is because these new kit kat emoji found in recent firmware from Samsung and not from Google. So now Samsung created their own emoji and will put them in their kit kat firmwares for the next devices and updates.

If you want to have the original emojis from Google or IOS and not the ones from Samsung, there's a way to do it if you have root.
- First of all, do a Nandroid backup (it is always useful to have a recent one)
- Now copy the font in the respective attachment to /system/fonts/ and replace the one inside. (root explorer is recommended for this)
- Change the permissions of the font file to rw-r--r--
- Reboot the device
Voilá!
If at anytime you want the to change back, just make the above process again, now with the file from the other rar files attached here.
Working on many other devices and roms, including S4 Google Edition, HTC M8, Note 3, LG G2, Galaxy S 5, AOSP SlimBean 4.4.2, AT&T Goldeneye v26, Omega..

Does it work with any other device with the same resolution? what about different resolution?
Is it only working on Samsung based ROM? or it can be installed on Google based ROM?

I have tested in a 4.4.2 GE ROM and it worked.
version 1.1 is up, leaving 1.0 up as well until i have a few people confirm 1.1 works for them (if 1.0 worked for you, 1.1 should work as well...i've been running it on my phone for a few days now without any issues). this new version will allow you to choose (via a preference in the module) whether you want the 4G icon or the LTE icon...
note: my phone is a vzw dev edition, running 4.4.2...although based on initial reports in the thread, it seems (and from my own remembering how the old version was) that this should also work on 4.4.0.
usual disclaimer, i'm not responsible if you break something. i've been running it on my phone and it has been working great...if there's a problem with it, please let me know (this is my first time attempting something like this).

confirmed working on:
Verizon Moto X (both retail and Developer Edition)
European Moto X (XT1052)
GSM Developer Edition Moto X (XT1053)
Moto G (confirmed in Germany, stock ROM)
changelog:
v1.1 (3/11/2014)
- added option to select either 4G icon or LTE icon (in preferences, requires a reboot after changing)
- removed android-support library, greatly reduced file size
v1.0 (3/9/2014)
- initial release

not sure what's going on (and i have no way of testing it since i don't have a G2) ...maybe they use a different method of including the carrier 4G icon? that's a complete guess though on my part, and i'm not sure why it would throw that error on installation rather than just not working...

Im sure you 've all heard of the LG G3 Keyboard you can FLASH through Custom Recovery...
Here is a simpler way to install the G3 Keyboard through a simple APK (NOOB FRIENDLY)
Download the APK HERE
This will replace your LG keyboard so i would suggest to do these things.
1. Back up your current lg keyboard. (you can do this directly from this app)
2. Select a different keyboard as your default keyboard to be safe.
How to install:
1. Install APK (make sure you have "unknown source" checked in security settings)
2. Open LG G3 Keyboard and Click Install button and wait for install
3. Reboot Device
4. In "Language & Input" select LG Keyboard as default
5. Set up lg keyboard (height theme color and what not)
6.ENJOY

Hi, English support is very hard to find for this phone. Here's how i got the beta updates. I know that ColorOS sucks, but with the latest ColorOS 5.0 beta update it gets a little better.
Its very simple and it works only with the Chinese model.
1. Download the apk file that i uploaded here and install it.
2. Open de installed app ColorOS and push the green button with Chinese text four times.
3. Now go to Settings --> Software Updates and it will download and install the latest beta update
4. You can find the latest beta changelog here (must use Google Translate)
5. Remember, there is no going back to a lower version
@WhySoSeriousJoKer, seems the download link is not working.. can you upload it anywhere else? Dropbox?

I think so, it works with the R11, R11s/R11 Plus/R11s Plus. It worked great on my R11s Plus frm China. It only doesn't work with the t versions. No idea what the difference is.

Unsure about bands, but it does come with multiple languages, GApps pre-installed along with a firmware number that can't be found on the Chinese site. Would try flashing the Chinese ROM but I don't want to mess anything up honestly, will make its way over here eventually.

Ok interesting and does the Australian model have Dutch (Netherlands) language? Yeah stay on the Australian ROM the Chinese model does have its problems.
Like with Whatsapp notifications, i don't get them. I did erveryting like in this video and also added a Whatsapp widget but still no luck. You also have this with the Australian model?
I will try this method to unistall some oppo apps that block notifications.

It does have Dutch yes. Can't help you with the WhatsApp notifications though as I don't use it, the Australian model still has the Oppo apps installed, such as Phone Manager. Telegram/Instagram/Twitter are recommended apps on the startup manager and so I get notifications from it without doing anything, but for the rest I followed the same video you did and that fixed the notification issue on my phone. Might be a WhatsApp specific issue.

Guess there's no downgrading to an older firmware? Model is CPH1719.
good for r11 users. no beta program for f3 plus users yet :/
I found a box picture from the Singapore R11s Plus model and i think the Australian model is the same. The bands are different then the Chinese model and there are many languages on the box (also NL). It looks like this is the international version. Going to see if i can find this international version online.
I hope Oreo will be soon be here

I got the R11s Plus Singapore model in black color today and damn this model is much better than the Chinese model i fist had.
Singapore model:
- Has Dutch language and more
- Supports LTE/4G Band 20 (800 mhz)
- Google apps are preinstalled
- Chinese apps are gone.
- All notification are working, also Whatsapp
Only downside is that it is still on Android 7.1.1. The Chinese model was on 8.1 beta. What Android is on the Australian version?
Thanks for the info SamLovesJam!
