Anyone else have this issue? I switched from Galaxy S III and I was on HSPA+ there so I know it is not the area I am in, switched the SIM and now I am only getting HSPA. I see HSPA in Settings > About Phone > Status
It shows that when its idle when your streaming or downloading it will show hspa+

No problems here on Tmobile (in UK) usually it displays H then when using data it flicks to H+ then back to H when idle. Apparently it's normal with Tmobile to not get H+ unless actual data is transmitted.
However I've recently had some Tmob issues where they must be doing some cell site work because the phone drops to G sometimes but it's never done this in the past and signals haven't changed.

On the notification bar you know how it says what service you are on edge or 3G well I'm having an issue on CM7 when I'm on 3G it says H at the top and sometimes it glitches up and says 3G at the top for a slight second. Anyone else have this issue? Is it normal thanks. It also occurs sometimes on the MIUI rom also

H for HSPA. It is suppose to be faster than 3G, however just because it says H doesn't mean it is on HSPA. For example, att/moto has programmed the Atrix to only display H even when its on 3G. So I get an E for Edge or an H for HSPA or 3G, but no 3G icon ever. Different ROMs might display different symbols on different networks as well.
Is there an order to the way Skyrocket works:
If LTE is available it would connect to LTE
If LTE is not available it would try to find 4G and connect to it
If 4G is not available it would search for 3G and connect to it
If 3G is not available, it would connect to "normal GSM"
Skyrocket is a LTE/4G phone, so does it mean that whenever I make phone calls I should be connected to LTE or 4G?
I had 4G showing in the top bar for 3 days but I haven't seen 4G all day today.
And I do not see LTE or 3G there either (I am not sure if there is LTE in New York).
There is just WiFi and those signal strength bars.
If it says 4g and LTE under your are in a LTE area. If it says 4g you are in a hspa+ area. If it says E you are on edge.

Oh and when you make a call it will say 4g you can't make calls with lte only 4g.

The indicators in the info bar can be misleading. If you want to know which network you are connected to, go to "settings", "about phone", "status", and look under "mobile network type".
And for people that have data connection issues from time to time, I am willing to bet that if you look under "mobile network type" while you are having the data connection problems you will see the network type changing every few seconds or so. The phone is generally in an area where there are weak data connections in all areas and it can't decide which network to grab hold of, therefore, none of them work. I think this isn't a problem with the phone, but a problem with how AT&T's towers handle connections in weak areas.

That's because you're connected to wifi. When using wifi, the network icon goes away. If you turn wifi off, you will see it again.

Scott1479,
So I still don't see 4G. However under "Mobile Network Type" it alternates between HSPA and UMTS - I understand these are 3G networks. Very interesting
There isn't voice over LTE on AT&T (or anywhere else as far as I know).
I'm on NET10 via AT&T. I got my APN setup and I'm getting data and MMS. However, I wanted to know what the icons looked like for different networks. I haven't seen anything but "H" show up. On the N4 it would show H and H+ letting me know the difference. I was also in a supposed AT&T LTE coverage area, but it still showed "H". I think my APN is setup right. Other users have reported the same setting and getting LTE. IS the H to LTE switch take a while?

Hi I also enabled my Nexus 5, Though I am getting data, but I dont see any symbol at all, on top of my notification panel. I do see wifi symbol, when I connect to wi-fi but no cell phone mobile data symbol. Though mobile data is working for me.
Can you help?
Just got an LTE icon using T Mobile in Boston. Just the H for other areas. Haven't seen an H+ yet

I'm on AT&T via NET10. Have yet to see LTE yet. Even in areas that are supposedly covered. Probably will have to call NET10.

You won't see an icon while on wifi. Turn wifi off and see what happens. You should definitely see something indicating what type of network you are on.
Data Signal Indicator

Well, I know that, I have disabled the wifi, then only I tested the mobile data, but I didnt see any 3G/H+ symbol. Though network signal widget shows me the right data speed for the mobile data.
Recently I noticed that my phone is dropping internet connection quite frequently. I started to observe it more closely and saw that whenever I am connected (displays LTE on top bar) it disappears after 2-3 seconds. Reappear and then disappear.
I started browsing internet and noticed this connectivity. I thought my data roaming was off ... I enabled it and still the same issue .
Then I checked my preferred connectivity. Like earlier where phones used yo have 2G/3G option. Nexus has only either 2G or 3G , there is no both or 3G/LTE. Anyways, so I selected 3G and since then the internet I'd working fine but I mostly connected to 3G/HSPA+ now rather LTE.
Is this an issue ?
P.S: I am on Fido network and my area is in LTE coverage map.

I have a LG Nexus 5 and i have a strong LTE signal in my area along side HSPA+ if i make a Phone call LTE drops and HSPA is activated while the phone call is over it goes back to LTE in 20 seconds or so.
However if i use data while on HSPA+ mode it seems it wont handoff to LTE seamlessly
Like if you're on Verizon using 3g streaming consistently (not pandora something consistent downloading/upload like tunein radio) it would secretly bump you back to 4G LTE without any problems and stream would continue without even you noticing
T-Mobile however on the other hand doesn't until you stop the data usage and then it bumps back up to LTE
test it out download Tunein radio and stream a station make sure you're on HSPA+/HSPA then while streaming go to a location with like full or best LTE signal. (I went to the mall and drove right under the tower and phone still insists HSPA+)
not sure whats going on here? the Network not telling the phone to handoff? or some internal network issue or an issue with my nexus 5
by the way i am stock android 4.4.2 no root or recovery or whatever
So my question is is there a way to fix this? or is this something i need to email John Legere about?
I have similar issues but for Verizon losing eVDO and going to LTE is probably because EHRPD is making the switch more seamless. However, when my phone switches from HSPA to LTE I drop down to GPRS for a few seconds.
