[Q] Rooting+Rom a not so common tablet. - General Questions and Answers

I picked up a Ematic EGM003 tablet for someone and I really with I wouldnt of. Its a bit sluggish and unresponsive at times. Here is the link to the one Im talking about.
amazon.com /Ematic-Android-Capacitive-Multi-Touch-Tablet/dp/B00GQI7IP0
I told him I would see what I could do about making it run a bit better. Im not the best at rooting but I did manage to root and install a rom on my old Samsung Captivate. I did search around using the EGM003 terms but I didnt see anything (maybe looking for the wrong thing?)
So is there anyway I can get this Ematic table rooted and have a lightweight rom installed to make it run a bit better. Maybe a generic rom or something that ran on a similar Ematic tablet?

You most likely won't be able to get a ROM on it, probably only root. If you tried flashing a different tablets ROM it would brick your tablet.

[Q] *NEW* LG Vortex Verizon....ROOTED!

I come to you guys because you all are the BEST. I have been a long time fan of Android since I got my first phone which happened to be the HTC Sprint Hero. I Just got a new phone that reminds me of that only MUCH better and being that it was just released, I cannot find anything pertaining to it.
I just rooted the LG Vortex (Froyo) today, and it was surprisingly easy using an app I found in the Market called z4root. Now I need to find a recovery and some ROMS for it and I could think of no other place I'd rather find one than XDA.
HELP!

I bought one friday online...supposed to get it on Monday...can't wait...
When you say you have rooted it...what has that done for you...does it give you some means to control the hardware and have access to the control of it...I am very interested to know if it actually runs the full 600 mhz...as I have often found that they report the speed higher than what it actually runs...
I too will be anxious to see some roms and I am also trying to learn how to build them myself as well...I will have to look up the z4root and learn about it and possibly download it when I get mine as well...
My Wife purchased the Motorola Droid 2...but I doubt she is going to let me tinker with it...unless I can convince her it will make it better...hahahahaha...
Blue
I too would like to know more info on the root as I am getting one on friday.
i would like to see some too
i have the lg vortex and have rooted it with the z4root and it has been working great no problems with i tried another rooting app and it made the phone act stupid so far z4root is the best choice, im still a newbie with the android os i just left windows mobile,
i have been using the vortex for a few days now and it runs pretty smooth as is but i am going to be trying the z4root has anyone found any roms for it yet?
i havent been able to find one for it found one for its sister phone
hey guys,
I could not find z4root in the market so I downloaded the file on my computer to send it to the phone. My question is, in which directory on the phone should I put it?
Doesn't really matter, just put it where you can find it so you can install it with Astro.
z4root=garbage

How would I go about flashing a ROM on a "generic" tablet

Hey guys
First let me say that I did try to look around the forums, but did not find anything relevant .. the search tool really isn't that great.
My parents, in all their wisdom, decided to go ahead and buy two "generic" android tablets whilst I was away at uni without asking for my advice.
Now had I known, I would have told them to stay the hell away from them, unfortunately I am now left with two annoying adults wanting me to make their tablets faster and better.
I am a pretty good programmer and am doing computer science at Uni, so I though i might try to root/flash a custom ROM onto those tablets myself (i know nobody else will ever do it). However I have never touched anything 'android dev' related (apart from obviously rooting and flashing my own HTC Desire) so I really have no idea about where to start.
This is where you lovely people come in: I would be oh so grateful if someone could put me in the right direction as to whatI should be looking into in order to root, and eventually flash a rom onto a new device that no other dev has ever touched before. I'm guessing that if people are doing it for mainstream devices, its entirely possible to do on the tablets I have, I just need to know where to start looking.
Thanks a bunch in advance guys, please don't be to harsh on me <3
I do not know if this will help you or not, but I also am trying to flash a ROM for a "generic" android device. Given that mine is a phone and not a tablet, I do not know if this would work for you or not therefore I'd recommend doing prior research; however, I was able to root my device using the z4root app.
As far as I know, the next step would be installing a recovery (such as clockwork recovery in ROM Manager) in case something goes wrong. I'm not certain about how one would go about porting that software, but their are instructions posted on the developer's website. I don't know enough about the process so I can't really give anymore input; however, if you find any other information, be sure to let me know as well
definitely will thanks!
I've got one problem with one of the tablets already .. it never came with a usb cable, and does not have a micro usb, min usb or anything that I may know as a port, it only has some kind of proprietary port that strangely looks like an iPod/iPhone/iPad port but I can't be sure as I do not own an ipodcable to try it out .. is it in any way possible that a generic tablet could have an apple connector on it?

I can just tell you from my experience using a Ciphone Pro (IP4 knock-off running android). It came with a cable that looks very similar to an iphone cable (my girlfriend and I cannot tell the difference between them). I can plug my phone into either my cable or her Iphone 3GS cable to charge; however, when she once plugged her phone into my cable, her Iphone said the charge was not compatible. Because the android phone didn't display any prompts when connected to the iphone adapter, I assume that these generic devices are compatible with it. I hope this helps, but you could also check all of the iphone cables you have lying around because maybe one of them actually came with the device

One thing that I've noticed is that there are quite a few "generics" out there that are actually rebadged versions of each other. If your tablets are one, then if you can find the line of tablets that they belong to, then you might be able to find a development community behind that line of tablets. If that's the case, then there might already be recoveries/roms available for you to flash onto these tablets. I'm not sure of a great resource but androidforums.net might help.

I would like to marry you Sir. Thanks to your advice I looked around, using the generic pads specifications, and ended up finding out that they were just "rebranded" flytouch epad. From there, I was able to find compatible ROMs for both tablets on http://www.slatedroid.com/ and http://techknow.freeforums.org.
I know have root, google apps and a nice speed increase on both of'em
Thank you very much for the help

Might I ask how you came to this conclusion? I'm trying to see if I can install custom ROMs on my phone and I believe that it is more than likely that there is a compatible version floating around somewhere. I'm not exactly sure what I should be searching for, so if you have any pointers it would be greatly appreciated

All I did was look at the specs of my device (ram, processor, screen size and internal memory being the big ones) and just tried to look for any other device with the same specs. It took a lot of googleing though, so be ready to search through useless search results for a while.

Awesome! I'm glad you were able to find what you were looking for. I must, however, decline the offer as I am already married and polygamy is illegal here.

[Q] A Few Questions About the TF101 (Thinking of Buying)

Hi Folks,
I just bought an Acer A500 and I'm really disappointed in it. The screen isn't very good, and wifi seems a bit wonky on it. Not that I'm against hacking, because I'm not at all. I don't like the fact that it doesn't work with ad-hoc wifi connections out of the box. The thing I loved about it was that I had it rooted, recovery and a custom ICS rom installed within an hour.
I know the TF101 has a better screen so I'm not going to ask that. I've tried to search for most of this info, but you know how good search is, so I'll ask here.
I see the tab has root, is there a one click method that I missed? I thought I saw one for it at one point but haven't seen it since.
As far as wifi goes, will this thing hook up to our android phones using the tether apps (not pdanet)?
How easy is it to brick one of these? Stupid question I know, but I've been using Samsung phones which are pretty much impossible to brick unless you really screw up on a kernel, so I would just like to hear what you think.
Reason I ask is because I debated between this and the A500. I went with the A500 based on price. I've been theming over on the the Nexus S for AOKP and CM9 so I'm looking for a tab that I will be able to work with the same roms so I can expand into tablets. I've also started trying to do some source builds so I can make some of my own visual modifications to some of the jar files within the framework.
Thanks in advanced for any input you can give!
1. Easy to root, especially the earlier models.
2. Wifi tether & Bluetooth tether (I recommend bluetooth highly!)
3. Almost impossible to brick if you have one of the earlier Transformers with NVflash.

I use my inspire 4g to connect to all the time. I just place my phone into hotspot mode and use Wep Security and then just log on with the tab.

On a new model, all you get is CWM. So make a back up and hold it dear. Because if something gets hosed while flashing and you don't have anything to go back to. Its dead.
On an older model they have nvflash and can recover from anything.
So what I'm hearing is buy a refurb and hope?

Mine is a new model. SBK2. I have flashed it 30 times and never had an issue. Granted I have my original backup and origianl kernel on a 2 gig card I had lie'n around and then I placed that in my safe.
As long as you know what you are doing yer all good. Maybe. Lol
try to find a used one preferably SBK1 which is B-70(some) and below they are much easier to work with when it comes to modding and hacking (NV flash) which is like ODIN for Samsung phones. They are great tablets dont get me wrong but the new wave of devices are unfortunetly going to make these tabs obsolete much better than the Acer devices you spoke of

please help. wanting to root tf300t

ok guys so i have been reading every tip out there to speed up my tf300t
factory reset, asus sync, different launchers ect. tried them all and they fail for me. i remember this tablet being way faster and being able to do more than one thing at a time... so as much as i didn't want to (my tab is out of warrantee and dont know if i trust myself) i need to root my device and put a custom rom on it.
first question is can someone link some guide/tutorial? ive rooted phones and jailbroke iphones before so im not completely stupid...
second question is what is the fastest most reliable rom- ive heard good things from CleanRom ?
any and all advice is going to help as im ready to throw this across the room and buy a cheap 200$ netbook from walmart because i know it will be faster haha
otherwise if its not too hard. how would i go about putting ubuntu linux on here? i know windows is not doable or so im told..
This is a good guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2041627
But you need to know what bootloader you are on BEFORE flashing any Recoveries and Custom ROMS.
Sent from my TF300T using xda app-developers app
this is the one i used to root my tablet 1 month ago I think its really simple

[Q] Tweaking Mach Speed Xtreme tablet 7c

Hi,
My kids both received Mach Speed Xtreme Tablet 7c as gifts. I found they have problems that I am hoping I can fix with help. Firstly, they do not have Google Play Store on them. We have been using Aptoide and Amazon, but neither app runs very well. I would prefer to have Play Store on it since I am familiar with it from my own devices. Also, they are very slow and they crash often. I get a lot of force closes and a lot of Not Responding. Bad enough that they are hardly touched. Is this just a bad product or can something be done to help? They are apparently already rooted out of the box. I installed a Root Check app that says it is rooted and has Busy Box (I don't know what that is yet, but I'm definitely willing to learn.)
I am slowly learning the terminology involved in rooting and ROM'S but I would really like a nice step by step situation. Does the fact that it is already rooted mean the bootloader is also already unlocked? Or not necessarily? Also I was looking for a recovery, but I couldn't find one for this specific tablet. Which one should I use?
Any information is greatly appreciated. I really don't want these tablets to go to waste if they can be tweaked.
