Just a warning out there if you plan on getting a new phone don't go with the ATT or Verizon Samsung galaxy S4. The bootloaders are locked and you will not be able to flash any CM or AOSP roms anytime soon, only touch wiz based ones which are normally over a 1 gig download.

This should help
First of all, there is no official Jelly Bean for the Galaxy S III.
Second of all, the only working (as in functioning but not for daily use) port of Jelly Bean is for the i9300 (international model) only.
Thirdly, buying a carrier-specific model was the worst mistake you could make. You have a locked bootloader on your Verizon version, and on top of that, you'll be one of the last people to get the update, if Verizon even feels like pushing it out.
Short answer: Don't waste your breath.

I could use some help with this too. Specifically, is it possible for me to unroot it if required (clearing any traces of having rooted) ?
I was wondering if the hardware was exactly the same for a sprint and verizon and u.s. cellular galaxy s3? Can you flash a rom designed for a sprint galaxy s3 onto a Verizon galaxy s3 and vice versa?

Don't flash anything on a Verizon gs3 except for a Verizon gs3 rom.

Sprint.
You select ROMs based on the hardware not based on the service provider.
Wondering if I should upgrade from my VZW Galaxy Nexus to this phone so I can have a working phone overseas.
I think you can not select "Global" or "GSM" in Mobile Network when using AOSP roms. I'm pretty sure this only works using TW.
