[Q] Hardbrick/bootloader vzw suamsung galaxy s3 sch-i535?! - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hey guys.....sorry if im posting to the wrong area, im brand new to the site. I rooted my phone successfully..... but then i tried to mess with the bootloader. thats where my mistake begins and ends. I spent alot of time researching stuff. however, missed that the 4.3 android firmware was pretty much locked up tighter than fort knox. now i am hard bricked.....pretty sure from the bootloader. i have read everything from jig to jtag to a class 10 16 gb micro sd card..... im just wondering which of these things are verified to work.... obviously jtagging from what i have read says its the best or only....
anyways, phone i believe is hardbricked. (and yes i saw other hardbricked threads, but as a noob to the site would like my own thread specific to my own situation) phone will not power on in any mode. red light only while plugged into computer with battery out. i have not tried jigs. i have not tried jtag. i have only tried a debrick image with class 10 16 gb micro sd. plus odin and plus win32 diskimager..... i may not have a 4.3 debrick image but cannot find a definitive 4.3 image.....
any help is appreciated and as always, i have read nothing but amazing articles on this site......i have read alot, but never needed to post my own thread because everything has always helped me before.
hope you guys can give me a clear view on my problem and help me with my situation,
thank you to all with feedback, good or bad.....atleast ill know the path to take.
CJ.

Sd card trick works for a lot of people. So if that doesn't work JTAG will most certainly work.

After you flash the sd with the debrick image you should be able to pop it in and boot right up. I never had to do it so I'm the wrong person to ask.

Has anyone made a new images for 4.3 (with the new boot loader)? I'm assuming the old one would fail, else you could just use it to get around the new locks.
I didn't update, so I can't help.

+1 this is the link you need. Sorry I didn't post it in one of my first comments. For some reason after I read the op I thought you already seen it.

my phone wont boot no matter what? i cant get to recovery download. will this still work.....am i missing something here???
sorry if there is something simple that im missing, ive been doing nothing but research on this......my brain is gooping out of my ears at this point......

Some people say you need to flash the Derrick bin multiple times before it works properly.
---------- Post added at 11:27 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:24 PM ----------
You need to take the SD card out of your phone and connect it to a computer with a adapter.

ok, i will try charging it overnight.....even if the battery isnt in it and the red light comes on you think that might work? let me just make sure i have said this correctly before.....the ONLY time i see a red light is when the battery is NOT in the phone and the phone is connected to the COMPUTER.
(new users have to wait 5 minutes between posts.....good idea, but man that slows things down......)

Darn you saw that before I deleted it. A full charge on top of the flashed SD card is a good idea. Just in case you are confused with how to flash look at my last post. Good night and good luck.

i have a class 10 16 gb micro sd ..... idk if i need to keep trying.
Im using a debrick image and win32diskimager. i have written the image to the sd six or so times.......

g'nite to you too and thank you

Make sure you're using the 4.3 debrick image, and keep trying to burn it into the SD card. It may help to format it before you try, then you're starting on a clean slate.
It should work eventually.

No, the debrick.bin file contains an alternate bootloader. It tricks your phone into booting from that by making it think it's the internal card.
The thread I linked to you has links for both debrick images. Just make sure you re-download the correct one, the one after you already had 4.3

Yeah, RSD system img is still having problems. There are a couple of threads here with nearly stock system recoveries for TWRP.

You can get un-stuck from this spot .. it took me longer than I would have liked, but with the patience of other folks here and my unwillingness to quit, i got it back and working. The stock images are here. The key is that you need them on the external SD card to flash them back on using TWRP, which was the problem I was having. I eventually used a whole different laptop altogether with a micro-sd to SD adapter to move them over.
If Id have waited one more day, a few generous fellows found a way to unlock the bootloader without having to contact Sprint, then if it really bricks then wouldnt have it on record. Still quite a feat.

[Q] internal sd card wll not mount in CWM

I thought I would change the title of my thread as the issue seems to have changed. I hope that isn't a problem. I am able to get into loader mode just fine and have loaded CWM twice through ODIN but am unable to get the internal SD Card to mount or USB mode to work. HAs anyone seen this before? I searched carefully and could not find any reference to my problem. I was careful to uncheck re-partition but there is a chance I may have not, I suppose. Would that cause my problem? Any input would be most appreciated....I'm stuck.
Well, the good news is as long as you have Odin mode nothing is broken that cant be fixed the bad news is, I've been following your progress, and I'm stumped and out of ideas :-/ the way I understand it, you have a working Clockwork Mod recovery, you can boot to recovery. Correct? When you try to mount USB mode in Mounts and Storage, it gives you an error? Do you have an external microSD that you could copy a ROM over to and try to flash from there?
Which version of CMW did you flash,I found issues with ver 6.XXX and went back to ver 5.XXX non touch. In the newer versions including touch USB and mounting the drives didn't work for me. I thought it was my phone because of everything I've done since rooting

Sounds interesting, but wouldn't this explode needing to access the internal SD? i don't know if my PC has a SD Slot, but that is easy enough to fix. I'll try the solution below then this one.. One step at a time. Glad I've got a stumper even if it is a pain in my @ss.
Thanks again to all for the thoughts.

I'm using CWM 5.5.0.4 Still stumped. IF I did something stupid I sure wish I knew what it is. Phone is one week old and of course store claims it is my fault..........rrrrgh. I bought a Galaxy Express to hold me over until I get this fixed. The store offered me a job if I could fix it and as I'm not working, I'm calling in all the troops to help me here if possible........Thanks a million. or a thousand. They don't pay much.I Just checked and the sd card ext will not mount either in CWM and gives errors. I'd like to mod the express I bought to replace this one but am a bit gun shy now. It seems this problem is buried pretty deep.
Stil grateful but in need of help..
Ready to send it off to a JTAG repair shop but as I can still boot into both download and recovery modes there must be something I can do myself to fix this. Anybody out there??????

All you've gotta do is Odin the ORIGINAL GB or ICS from Sammobile. Your soft bricked (no biggie). Your more than likely missing a few important files that GB or ICS could fix. I'd go with GB, IMO
Close but no cigar.

I went to Sammobile and downloaded the firmware but it comes in Zip format and Odin does not recognize that rrgh. I can't get it onto a sd card because it won't mount in CWM. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll hold off for another response before I ship it out. Seems like I should be able to find something to flash on here somewhere, but i'm stumped.......
You need to unzip the file and extract the files there's a tar file inside. Use the instructions in konanes thread with the file you have. I can walk you through it better tommorow when I get off work, its very easy.

Well I found it before you replied and low and behold I am able to boot my phone. Now it won't recognize the sim card. I made sure the SIM works in another phone. BTW this is a T-Mobile phone originally but I run on simple mobile. I tried the unlocking process but I did not pay for an unlock code because it won't boot to the unlock code screen. It just goes all the way through and then reports "no sim card Emergency calls only" Thanks for getting me this far. The phone worked fine before I started playing with it. Now I'm really stumped...rrgh.
Thanks

Also of note only flashing T769UMB1 from Sammobile will allow the phone to boot at all. Whet I try to flash the root kernel the phone locks up as always at the blue bar when it completes and when reflashing T769UMB1 I go into CWM and am still unable to mount the SD Cards or USB Storage. Appears my little bit of progress was in vain. When it does boot as mentioned above, I still have "no sim card" Any advice would be appreciated. Being a NOOB, I am unsure if I started out with GB or ICS in the first place it that offers any assistance.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
You need to buy an unlock code, than you can enter it through your dialer.
---------- Post added at 11:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:59 PM ----------
You skipped the next step. You can't flash from GB to the latest. You have to do it in steps first GB than ICS uvlh5 than uvlmb1, uvlh5 was a prerequisette to the latest mb1. Start over...
Still grateful and lost.....

I have done as you suggested and really appreciate all the time you have taken to help me out. When I loaded UVLH5 the phone said it was updating 62 apps as it booted and I was in the same predicament. The phone boots and recognizes the internal memory card but will not recoginze my SIM card. I thought it was supposed to ask for an unlock code when it saw the foreign sim as I have seen that on other sites. The phone just boots and says "No SIM card" whether or not one is installed. Would sending it off for a JTAG repair solve my problem? I think I may have screwed the pooch so to speak when I loaded uvimb1. I am determined to fix this phone. It shouldn't be so difficult, famous last words. I think there may be a way to force the dialer to allow me to enter an unlock code, but before I spend more money on the phone I want to make sure that is what I need to do. I also cannot seem to get back into CWM for some reason. Maybe the button sequence has changed with the update. Confirming that procedure would be quite helpful.

You need an account with samfirmware and you should be downloading a .tar.md5 file. Shouldn't be a zip. Just curious, what's inside the zip?

Will pay for rooting.....

I have rooted two phones in the past but do not feel comfortable rooting my Verizon Galaxy S III. I'm looking to pay someone $15-$25 for their time to root my phone remotely. I'll pay through paypal, then provide my logmein user name and password so whoever can remotely complete the root while I watch. PLEASE, no first timers. I'll make a selection from those that respond. Thanks!!
follow a guide, take notes if you have to. print it out, highlight and read up. theres also videos that you can watch which you can pause and do each step alongside the video. thats how i started as I was cautious at first also.
it can be overwhelming at first, but its really not that difficult.
you can do what you want though. good luck.

One thing I couldn't find in the thread. Is an SD card mandatory? I don't have currently have one but will get one if necessary.
sd card isnt mandatory. the larger TW roms can be close to 1gb in size though.
theyre cheap on amazon if you wanted to grab one.
use that 15-25$ you were gonna pay someone to root with and buy a case and sdcard!
Yep, like others have said, read up and follow the guide. If you have any questions, just ask.

SD cards are not mandatory as mentioned before, but they are highly recommended as the only way you can lose data on them is if you explicitly tell your phone to format the card, a ROM flash will not format the card, and a ROM will never need the card to be formatted.

The great part is even if you mess up and brick your phone you can always Odin back.
Trust me having the ability to Odin back saved me a few times.
Back up your imei and make a nandroid after you root just in case.
clean Rom/xda powerd by zero-lemon & tweaked out Guided by the power of Zeus kernel!!
Like everyone has said before follow the guides and it really is simple. make sure you read them several times and watch the videos. it is better to understand what you are doing upfront. I made the mistake of rooting a friend's phone one time and rooting my fiance's phone. It became a nightmare because he didn't take the time to read through the forums here on xda like I had asked him and it was constantly a pain trying to help him. I figured my fiance's incredible needed all the help it could get and she loved it rooted but with rooting there is always the occasional issue and it was easier for me to get her a note 2 then keep having her upset about her phone.
rooting sch-i535
very easy to root. Just did mine this weekend, took an hour or two of reading and trying several things. don't buy the gs3 toolkit v7.4.5 as it didnt work for me.. I think it was driver related but the recovery loads never worked.
What did work is, download odin 3.07, the vralec bootchain, cwm, and superuser w/ bootloader. you have to know what version you are on. go to settings, about phone. if it is 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046439
follow the instructions step by step. In fact I'd highly recommend watching the video first and following it STEP BY STEP exactly how he does it.
Notes:
step3: get the Both Root and Unlocked Bootloader SuperUser. this needs to be on your External SDcard in your phone to follow the instructions per se. You are going to use 'load zip file from external SDcard' on the Recovery step.
The other files should be on your computer in your odin folder (or elsewhere that you can find them). All you need is VRALEC and CWM which will be loaded via the PDA button in Odin ONLY.
step5: I didn't restore the factory bootchain. just left it as is.. working fine for me
if you dont boot into custom recovery directly after flashing the VRALEC bootchain the phone will detect that you are screwing with it and reload the factory bootchain! it happened to me the first time. Had to flash a couple times and do things in the correct order to finally get CWM on there. You can see the difference between the factory recovery and CWM recovery (it has a little hat in the middle of the screen and text is different, etc) As long as you flash it with the PDA button ONLY you will be fine. DO NOT USE BOOTLOADER BUTTON IN ODIN AT ALL! Be very careful with Odin and triple-check that you are using the correct settings. It's very easy, but you can potentially brick your phone if you are not carefully looking at every setting. Take your time! :fingers-crossed:

[Solved - How to Unbrick] Hardbricked my GS3

My GS3 has been hard-bricked by my failed attempt at flashing a rom. I admit, I made a very amateur mistake that someone who has been flashing for 4 years really shouldn't have made but the problem still remains...
My phone will not boot up at all. Not recovery, not Odin, nothing, nada, zip.
Is there anything I can do? At the moment I plan on picking up some resisters at the store tomorrow and creating a home-made jig. But is there anything I can do right now to solve this issue?
Nope. From what everyone told me nothing can fix unless you and away. Time for new phone. Just happened to me 4 days ago.

The red LED lights up for a few seconds when I plug it in but other than that, nothing else is functional. Not the splash screen, nothing.

Looks like its time to move on dude.
Try that USB Jig though
Try the jig, or try pulling the battery, plug up to a pc, hold button combo for download mode and pop the battery in. Hopefully itll give you an active com port in odin (obviously have odin up on pc when trying this). If that doesn't work www.mobiletechvideos.com can do a JTAG repair for $50. I highly recommend their service.
I'm waiting for Android Milky Way
It can be fixed, without jtag or jig (although a jig is great to have on hand for emergencies). You will need a class 10 micro sd card that is the same size as your phone's internal memory. It has to be class 10. Follow the instructions in this video EXACTLY and it can be done..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dU5H8NJ7vTM&feature=youtube_gdata_player
That has links to all the files you need as well as the original xda thread. Just be patient and do exactly what it says. Also, if you find that 80g debrick file throttled for download, I have it saved on my Google drive, I can link you to it.

Correction, that huge file I have is the VZW-I535VRBMF1......zip. the stock image. The debrick file is not that big.

I followed instructions on that video as well. My sd card was not class 10 though, still worked for me!!

So I tried the SD card method with my SD card (class 4) and failed so I decided that before I went into Verizon and got a replacement under warranty I'd run down to Walmart and see what they had. I came across the Sandisk Class 10 16GB SD card that the guy in the video used and went ahead and bought it. I then flashed the debrick image onto it and popped it into my Galaxy S3. Voila. It booted into Odin and I am now flashing it back to stock.
Gotta love the Android community.
That's awesome, glad it worked for you.

No problem, man. That's the reason I posted again to confirm it working because I found myself having trouble finding a set-in-stone cheap, easy way to fix my hard-bricked S3. I really hope others come across this post.
Oh and note: Class 10 is not always required but it is the only SD card that will work 100% of the time to my knowledge.
Nice.. I was going to try that but was to lazy to go get one from Walmart ha

Yeah, I feel ya there. I really didn't want to but I have one 5 minutes away so I figured why not. Damn thing cost me 22 bucks including tax.
Needless to say, now that my phone is fixed I'll be returning the SD card and getting my money back.

Bricked, No Download Recovery or charging animation

I've got a serious problem. I stupidly decided to update my S3 to 4.3. I then tried to root with old Casual method, no harm to the phone but not rooted.. Used saferoot, still no harm. I got root successfully, and updated the SU binary and disabled Samsung KNOX. Then I tried to use the "flash insecure aboot" option from Casual, and after restart now I've got a full brick. Can't boot system, recovery, or download. In fact, when I plug it in the charging animation doesn't even pop up. What should I do?
EDIT: Well I think I ought to explain what happened a bit more. Skip this section if you want, likely TL;DR.
I admit I did a lot of incredibly stupid things to my phone. First I updated directly on the phone, through Settings>About phone>Software update. Everything worked fine, and I was happy with 4.3. (I did factory resets before and after the update)
Then I rebooted and discovered many things including a new boot animation and sound which I was displeased with. Also, even though the new icons are nice, most of what I noticed was eye candy. I tried to root using casual. After a reboot, the phone still worked, but Root Checker said that root wasn't setup properly. Next I tried using saferoot, which is a method designed for 4.3, but not the Verizon S3. That worked and rooted successfully.
Then I opened the SuperSU app. It asked me to update the SU binary and disable Samsung KNOX (which I had no prior knowledge of)
It still worked fine after that. Then I tried "Flash insecure aboot" in Casual. And that's when everything stopped working.
EDIT 12/19/2013: I fixed it permanently! All credit goes to SpyroDazee for his wonderful guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2581166
I restored stock bootloader, and can now boot without an SD card!
Well I've done a lot of searching, and it doesn't look like there is too much I can do. I've found some repair services that claim to fix it, but I really don't know at this point. I've also heard that you could get a debrick image and write it to a 16GB class 10 microSD card which may fix it. Any thoughts?
Think your hard bricked

You are Hard Bricked. Follow this guide very carefully. It may just save your phone. Make sure you use a Class 10 SDcard that matches the size of your phone.

I love when they come for help, but then never reply...
Sorry for the long delay. Sadly, I don't have a microSD card to test this on right now. However, I've ordered one and it should be coming soon. I'll post back once I've got it and tried following the guide.
Well I'm not having any luck so far. I got my class 10 16GB microSD card today. I tried following both the guide that Sandman-007 linked and a guide from this forum thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2581166
Nothing is working. I tried each guide a few times each, rewriting the debrick image each time I tried.
I read that u have to try multiple times trial and error but if still don't work then JTAG is ur solution.
Flashing an insecure aboot or ANY recovery will brick the phone with 4.3

I got it to boot. I just had to charge it! Not fully fixed yet, but getting there!
