Model xt912 Razr Maxx "verizon"
I used "razr_blade_zip" to root phone. Followed instructions and worked fine. Then installed "safestrap" 3.65. Then went to recovery mode and created a back-up. Then installed cm11-20131126 unofficial-spyder and google app package. I installed cm 11 on slot 1. Rebooted and everything worked well. I did notice cell signal was low. After I installed a few basic rooted apps to increase network speed like "example Faster Gps". Still so far so good. Here is when things went wrong. After reading about SuperSu I decided to install it and missed a step. I ended up unrooting my in phone. I can't use Safestrap to install back-up. I'm not sure what a hard reset will do. I have googled issue but no real answer on fixing this. Thanks for any help!!!!!

Background: My GS3 was rooted and running ICS 4.0.1 and TWRP recovery nearly since the day I got it--stock Tochwiz ROM for the main reason of being able to tether and run Google Wallet. Everything was working great, but I completely restored the phone to stock (no root, stock recovery, phone wiped) with the intention of installing the latest OTA, Jelly Bean 4.1.1 (and then subsequent 4.1.2 which was pushed down a few days ago) and then re rooting and re installing TWRP recovery.
Issue: After closely following the steps outlined here to root my GS3, unlock bootloader and install TWRP, everything seemed to work fine, until Google Wallet installation gave me an error that NFC was disabled. When going to my settings to correct this (Settings>Wireless and network>More settings) I noticed I had absolutely NO NFC SETTINGS. I already tried re-flashing a fresh download, searching XDA and Google, with no luck. Any suggestions? I really miss NFC already.

Hey Everybody
I'm new to the whole rooting process, which I did fine on Saturday the 4th of October 2014. Today (October 8th 2014) I tried to install Cyanogen using the installer, it said it worked, but when my phone rebooted it was in the original version of touchwhiz that came with my Galaxy S3 SGH-I747 Rogers version. I wanted to get my files back, so I went into CWM and tried to recover, which didn't work. I tried again and again and it finally loaded my apps, but I had no service and I was spammed with "failure to load .gapps.google" or something like that. I went into CWM and wiped cache, tried again, same issue. I then wiped everything, went back into it and it still was NOT working. What do I do? I have no service at all! I've tried pulling the SIM and putting it back, but no success. Please HELP!
EDIT: I flashed stock ROM using ODIN, which worked. I would still like to know why CWM didn't work though, and if it is still possible to try to get it to work

Anybody?
I'm a beginner myself, and i do not know much about installing custom roms on samsung phones, but maybe you did not flash a compatible custom kernel to support the custom rom? it seems like you did not flash gapps either, but that should not stop you from getting network service. my last guess would be that you need to also install a baseband perhaps. all this information should be there in the galaxy s3 section of the forums.

Hey there, first off, thank you for replying.
I didn't manually use odin or other flashing software to flash the ROM. Unlike the rooting method (which went smoothly) I used the cyanogen mod installer. The installer itself said that cyanogen was installed successfully, but it was not. After it said this, my screen (on the phone) turned off, and I was brought to a fresh install of touchwhiz. I've actually fixed the networking issue by flashing touchwhiz stock, but that still doesn't explain why my CWM backup wasn't working.
I see...I haven't used the cyanogen mod installer myself so cannot say...
What I suggest is that, if you're up for trying again, to manually flash a rom - either Cyanogenmod or any other. There seem to be a lot of good roms available for your phone, and whichever rom you choose will come with instructions for how to install. The usual method will involve the following steps as far as I know:
- Root
- Unlock Bootloader
- Flash Custom Kernel with recovery
- Flash ROM
- Flash GAPPS
These steps are not difficult at all as long as you follow the instructions for your specific phone. I have a Sony Xperia SL and thats how I installed a custom rom on it many times. Sorry I could not help much not knowing Samsung procedures but good luck!

OK,
Download stock ROM for your device from Samsung-updates.com according to device model and region.
Then flash it with Odin.
Good luck
OK first off this is my gfs phone, I had rooted it using Kingroot with no problem. I flashed a custom ROM I used cynogen 12.1 and also flashed a synthetic v3 kernel. Her phone was working just fine until she let some know it all at her work mess with it! I was wondering why the hell I couldn't get into recovery thru my twrp. I have to manually do it now. Even then everything I try to do it says it fails. So I can't back it up at all. Nor flash the old stock KitKat THST it originally came with. Her screen has been blacking out to every since that dumbass friend of hers downloaded pimp my rom. He had no clue wtf he was doing. Now thru that app it allows me to delete all added **** he did to it. But somehow her phone lost her permanent root!!?? Beats me, but it explains why I can't use device control anymore. And why I can't wipe the cache to the dalvik machine. I can't flash any roms, I can't do ****. I tried using kingroot but no work! It worked on my 4th try last time but I was using her stock Android 4.44 KitKat rom. I recall reading somewhere that kingroot doesn't support lollipop 5.2 which is what I put on her phone using Cynogen 12.1!!! So basically if I can't gain access to permanently root her phone I won't be able to fix it at all! Which is bs! Van anyone help me? I manually go into recovery mode it won't even let me do a factory reset. No matter what I do it keeps saying Fail!!! I'm growing very impatient, I need to fix her phone asap. I'd appreciate it if any of you guys can help me out please. Thank you for your time...hope someone helps me.

Hi and thank you for using XDA Assist
Try to ask over here:
ZTE Zmax [Z970] ROOT GUIDE, FAQ, DISCUSSION, if permrooted with Kingroot.
Good luck!
Need some answers/help...
I was stock, rooted on 8.0....saw a pop-up box yesterday about OTA, didn't think much about since I thought being rooted wouldn't allow the OTA. Have seen the occasional pop-up over maybe the last couple weeks, but I don't normally restart my phone unless it starts to lag or freeze up/run slow. A restart usually fixed that. Was perfectly happy staying on 8.0. I did a shutdown on my phone this evening, and when I restarted it, bam, I'm unrooted on 10 now, specifically, QP1A.190711.020
The phone was bought from Google, unlocked in Oct 2017. I immediately unlocked bootloader and rooted at that time and have been running stock 8.0 since. TWRP and Magisk were used following instructions from the thread here on the forum.
No data was lost after the restart today and 10 seems to be running ok. I did download some data and pictures through my USB-c onto a flashdrive and it did seem to drain my battery FAST while doing it.
What I'd like to know now is how to get root back. I wouldn't mind staying on 10, but if I re-root, will another OTA break my root again? I haven't tried to do a shutdown and a restart again to see what would happen because I'm afraid my phone will brick.
I'm kind of a noob at this, and I don't always understand when you all get technical, but I can follow step-by-step instructions.
First off, how did an OTA actually get through, update and unroot my phone?
And second, can someone point me to step-by-step instructions to re-root my phone on 10, and how do I keep it from happening again?
Thanks for looking and I'd be very appreciative if someone could help me out.
Thank you.
Jim

Same here.
I've got a retail (NON-Verizon) rooted, stock OG Pixel with 8.1 and I've been ignoring the nag to update to 10.
My wife has a retail (NON-Verizon) Pixel 2 that was also stock, rooted 8.1 except she just took the update and asked me about it later.
Both were done with TWRP and Magisk, albeit differing versions.
She's now unrooted at QP1A.191005.007.A1
TWRP v3.2.1-0-walleye is installed.
EDIT: TWRP seems to have been nuked by the OTA upgrade.
I just tried to reboot into TWRP recovery and it's gone.
Magisk Manager app version 5.4.0 (57) + "Latest Magisk Version: v16.0" (I'm pretty sure I rooted via v14.5(1456) though) are present.
"Update Magisk Manager" is nagging about updating /installing MagiskManager-v5.8.2
Root Checker Basic v6.4.6 is also installed.
I'm scared to death to update Magisk or attempt root without some guidance from you fine folks here.
Until then, I'll start having her backup everything she wants to keep in case things go sideways.
I didn't think I was the only one this happened to.
Ok...noticed another issue.
I had Titanium Backup Pro installed. I had several apps frozen before the forced upgrade to 10. Guess what? Those apps are listed as disabled in the app list with no button for re-enabling them. Titanium Backup Pro no longer works because I lost root with the forced update to 10, so I can't unfreeze with Titanium Backup.
Is there any way to unfreeze those apps without re-rooting? Not too sure I even want to attempt to root again.
Also, I haven't shutdown or restarted since the forced update. S3NTYN3L, so you're saying you didn't have any issues restarting/rebooting? Other than TWRP being gone, no other issues?

Correct.
As for "other issues", none that I, or she, have noticed.
Still breathlessly waiting to hear about how I go about re-rooting without data loss.
