Hello, I had a tab2 7" more than a year ago. I remember using mouse and other usb otg devices on it.
Then I sold it. I can't remember what rom was on it.
I remember usb otg notifications worked, telling something like "mouse is connected" etc
Now I got another one, it has custom rom installed but usb otg isn't working and was trying to figure out the new ROMs.
I tried lots of latest roms with no luck.
Kitkat ones are great, run smooth, but when I try to connect a mouse it doesn't work.
Then I read that on CM based roms native usb otg isn't working. One can browse usb pens with apps, but no luck with other devices.
I don't care about storage, I need mouse/keyb and other input devices working.
Do someone use USB mouse or keyboard? What rom/kernel?
I'm starting to think it could be ICS since it was soo much time ago?
Thanks,
Robert

Thank you. With that combo I was able to diagnose a fault in the otg cable.
Repaired it and it works, now I'll try the other roms.
Both usb wired mouse and storage works perfectly with Sungsonic ROM v7 and Next Kernel 2.1.6
:good:
everything works fine on 4.4.x too. The fault was the damn usb otg cable.

same for me , i can hot swap usb mouse / xbox360 controller many times , 1'st time I connect a usb flash drive I can see contents it in astro , disconnect & re-connect no contents untill I restart ???
does tiamat 1.4.2 support hotswapping of usb drives ??
Lots of these topics floating around. All looks the same after u connect a file/drive u have to reboot. Kinda sucks. Mice/controllers/keyboard not effected. I wish a dev would pop in and just say yes u have to reboot all the time or there can be a solution or something.

Are you sure you got an host cable? Do any other devices work with it? Like a mouse or controller.

Drives over OTG are indeed hotswapable. I do it all the time.

first let me say thankyou brd , every mod I have done has come from your posts.
I am quite diligent and read everything I can before I flash or mod and even post in the forum , but , is there something I could have missed that causes me problems hotswapping usb drives , I am at a loss . .
thanks
Just an update on the need to reboot to access usbOTG. I got my official USB adapter today from Motorola. I have hot swapped 5 different drivers and sticks and it reads every time. Even my 250gb WD portable hard drive.

@ hoola
so did you have a grey otg cable and got the same results as others and I have got , and now you have the official host cable as is well ? am I correct ?
also exactly what are you running , and the route you took to get there , i.e. my route was
uk 3.01 , one click, tiamat as they came out untill 1.4.0 > BRD's cwm flashed 3.1 update > tiamat 1.6ghz with usbmass storage (thats not working too well for me)
thanks
I had a grey/clear generic cAble. I rooted using another method on another site then *redid* it using brd method . I just tried using the generic cAble and it does not read after first swap until reboot. With moto cable it sees all devices . I switched out like 20 times in a row with 5 or so devices (USB , external, USB card reader, few sticks) and it reads every time.

I have a bluetooth OBD2 reader for my car and while using the stock rom on my infuse, the phone never sees the device so I cannot pair it. I was using the serendipity rom and it sees the reader and pairs perfectly. Are the two roms using different bluetooth protocols? Is there an update of some kind to get it to work?
forgot to mention the bluetooth adapter i am using is an ELM327. I used it with no problems on my Evo and on the infuse using the s7 rom. The stock rom will not see it at all.

That's weird... I know that Samsung-derived ROMs have issues in their Bluetooth stack - it's why you can't use Wiimotes or the Sixaxiscontroller app for PS3 controllers.
However - stock ROM and S7 should be identical in this regard other than maybe Gingerbread vs. Froyo.
CM7 is where you should see significant differences in terms of support for "unusual" devices like Wiimotes and such.
Can anyone else confirm that their S7 rom (NOT CM7) can see a wiimote or ps3 controller?

I haven't even tried - I assume it won't. Will try tonight but I'm assuming failure.
A pseudo-serial device like that OBDII unit may be an oddball corner case.
I can't seem to anyone else who has this problem. My TF700 is working great. However, today I decided to bite the bullet and install CleanRom. After unlocking, I realized that my computer can no longer see the tablet via USB. It is not an unrecognized device, just nothing happens when I plug it in.
I have tried two different cables on 3 computers, so I believe the problem is with the tablet itself. It charges just fine and when I plug the cable into the computer or unplug, the screen comes on (just like when you plug in the charger), so something is getting recognized.
I don't see any physical damage to the port, it looks fine.
Anyone else ever seen this?
Thanks,
Chris

It was, not sure how long ago though. I know it was when I first got it. I'm guessing it is a hardware problem, but not sure what to do about it. I honesly don't care all that much about it, but I would love to get TWRP on it so I can flash roms. I haven't seen a way to get TWRP on it without the USB or GooManager, but I can't run GooManager because I don't have root yet.
Still trying to search to see if there is a way to get root without USB, but I haven't found anything....

Chris,
See if downloading and installing PC Suite from Asus helps.
That might get the drivers working again.
Are your PCs win7?
Just a thought. I am not running clean rom but when u connect to ur pc try going to settings, storage, and and hit the 3 little dots on the top right. It should show some usb connection tab.

Thanks, I'll try the software install, but since the computer doesn't even tell me I have an urecognized device (nothing in device manager), I'm not sure that it is. I also already rolled back to stock ICS and also tried the storage settings to no avail.
I unfortunately think I have a hardware problem. I guess I'm stuck at trying to get it repaired, or just live without the USB connection....which I guess ultimately means no customizations. I can still flash back to the stock Jelly Bean using the factory bootloader and rom from the Asus site, so I may have to live with that.
Could be the cable. Sadly, replacing it is ridiculously hard.

I wish it were. I have a second charger/cable and already tried both cables on different PCs. Uggh.
Connect the tablet to a PC running Linux and run lsusb to see if the tablet is recognized (the vendor ID is 0B05) - just to sidestep any possible Windows driver issues.
I recently purchased a headphone amp/dac and am trying to use it with my phone. Is there a ROM/kernel that has full USB host capabilities. I am struggling to get the amp/dac to work with my phone. I can see the device in an app called USB host controller but the problem is that there is no audio being output over USB. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this or if I can?
Update: I can get audio with USB audio tester, but I can not seem to get any music to play over USB
Are you on a Jellybean ROM, that has MTP mode for USB? I've read from other users here that MTP breaks USB audio on some car stereo head units, so this might be the same issue.
I have tried CleanROM, the Sense 5 port, and Vanilla Rootbox. None of them have worked thus far. They see the device but for some reason are not sending audio. I am unaware whether the roms have MTP mode.

Vanilla rootbox does not. I can't remember if sense 5 does but it probably does. Cleanrom surely does. So you know the problem is probably not MTP if it doesn't work on Vanilla rootbox.
I plugged it straight into an HTC One and it worked right off the bat. There is obviously something preventing it from working but whether it is kernel or ROM related I have no idea.
Try ruuing to stock and test. Msake sure youre s-off before ruuing

Did anyone found any solution for custom roms?
USB Audio works fine in stock but I'd like to use cyanogen-based rom. Maybe someone knows is there any plans to realize this feature in foreseeable future?

there is a major bug on jellybean with this tablet where the otg will stop working and you have to reboot to fix the problem, can a app like USB OTG Helper get around this problem?
and please don't reply and say your otg works fine, you are not helping me by saying that, i want a solution & help with this problem, not a "works fine for me, not sure what you are talking about herpy derp" its really annoying and doesn't help my cause, just don't reply if you are going to say that.
so anyways, anyone installed this app on jellybean and have no lockups with the otg? please post on this topic, or if you know any other solutions or apps that can help that would be nice, just that i want to update to jellybean to get the feature to turn of notifications for apps, i get spammed to death by it and its really annoying. if nothing comes from this topic then i will just have to stay on ics till 4.3 or 4.2 comes (if that ever happens that is)

Could you tell us what the model number of the tablet is, root status, and software version?
I am having the same problem. However, the issue is not universal, i.e.: not all notes suffer from this problem. Sofar, it is not even clear to me whether the problem is hardware or software related. E.g.: my Note has Android 4.1.2 installed and USB only works once after a reboot (that is with the official Samsung adapters). I did try my adapters with a different Note, where they worked perfectly, but that tablet was running 4.1.1.
I have not tried OTG Helper, as I do not want to root my tablet (too risky with possible curious little fingers around), but I have just received a return ticket from Amazon Germany for a repair and/or replacement. If the replacement works, while running 4.1.2, I am much more inclined to call this a hardware failure, in which case no helper app can save you. I shall keep the forum informed...

if it was a hardware problem then my otg adaptor wouldn't work on ics would it? it's a software problem on jellybean, hence the reason i created this topic.
i've found solution to the problem and will leave this for anyone who needs it, basically sixaxis app and a dual shock 3 controller and root, you only need to connect the usb otg once and it registers the mac code from the controller with your tablet, after that you can play wirelessly without cables so the otg problem is completely bypassed, i'm happy because i can finally leave ice cream sandwich behind and enjoy jellybean on my tablet finally, i just wish someone told me this ages ago and i wouldn't have been stuck on ice cream sandwich for so long, yay! time to celebrate lol
started a bug report with android. Please help get this fixed
I started a bug report for this with android. Please go and star it for importance so that it gets fixed. If you got it working please go and say what you have/did to have usb otg working with 4.1.2.
