They were referring to restoring with an app like Titanium Backup, not restoring the whole system ala nandroid.

Backup app

Hi all,
What is a good backup app to use that will back up and restore all apps and their data. I haven't had luck with Titanium, it would restore the apps but not the data.
Thanks,
Ho'okani

I use Titanium Backup Pro all the time, never had a problem with it not restoring any apps/data. You can give MyBackup Pro a go...
MyBackup Pro works better for me. With titanium after flashing a rom it doesn't seem to be able to find previous back ups.
I have had to run fix permissions after restoring with mybackup pro, but at least it does find backup's done on previous rom installations so I am able to restore everything.

they are two different things. nandroid backup saves the nand, titanium backups app data.
ok guys, thanks for clearing it up
nandroid does not back up the kernel iirc

[Q] Question About Titanium backup On Non-Rooted Devices And ART...

Can titanium backup restore app+data on a non rooted phone? Or maybe just the APK? And can you restore apps from Titanium backup with ART enabled? Are the backups made by ART not restorable?

[Completed] can i restore my apps only from cwm backup?

i have a cwm backup and want to restore apps from it . ant way to do it?
Hi,
If your cwm version has an option to restore data partition only... That can work. But, I've read many issues from people trying to do this. Using Titanium backup to backup your apps and data is by far the better way.
You could restore your full backup. Get titanium backup and backup your apps and data. Then flash a new rom and get titanium backup again and restore your user apps.
That's the best and most popular way. ?
Good luck!

Apps/Appdata recovery from TWRP backup

Any way to do this? There were a lot of Nand apps in the past but they've all mysteriously vanished. Titanium backup still has a restore from nand/twrp backup option, but it's pro only.
What do you exactly need to backup?

It wasn't necessarily backup, but just recovery. I'm recovering some apps and their data from a bootlooping TWRP backup. I know it is possible to an extent because I was manually able to move my Google Authenticator data to a fresh install, just wanted to do it with the rest of my apps.
