Run-time selection not switching - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
Not sure if this is an issue that has been brought up before but when I switch my runtime from Dalvik to ART, it reboots my N5 and goes straight to my home screen. I know it is supposed to take much longer because of the conversion. Also, when I go back to Developer Options, the runtime is is still Dalvik.
Any suggestions to fix?

Do you use Xposed Framework? If so, its not compatible and will not allow the conversion to ART.

what rom are you using? and are you using any xposed modules? if you are using xposed, its not compatible with art and wont let you use it.

Well thank you both for the quick answer to that question and yes, its Xposed stopping it.

Ran into this issue while back and deleted it completely since didn't really need it. Good luck.

Yeah, between the ROM, kernel, and what I needed, the modules I used for Xposed were not enough to keep me with it. I didn't use that many so getting rid of it was easier than someone who uses Xposed almost exclusively for many Mods. ART seemed to run smoother for me (even if placebo) and felt like it wasn't necessary to keep Xposed if I don't use it.

Switch to cablevision.¦¦¦:cyclops:¦¦¦ lol
Are you using ART?
EDIT: I installed 2 MY TWC and TWC TV, both work. I'm on purity Rom with ART enabled.
You need to further explain your issues and which TWC app ? Rom? doesn't app open at all?

Well, the app seems to work for me on ART. It should work for you as well, I would suggest back up the TWC app with an app like Rom toolbox lite, (it should do back-ups without root), uninstall twc and restore the back up. It sometimes resolves crashes issues with some apps for me.
You are welcome to root your device and will find more solutions. so far, very safe to root nexus 5.

I tried everything and still no luck. I will leave it alone for now. I don't want to root the phone. I feel that every time I root a phone it goes down to ****. Reliability, GPS, pictures everything sucks. I will change my cable company but not root any more.

Your hesitation is not unwarranted, but it is incredibly easy to root a Nexus 5. I'd check with others in the community for the app and see if anyone else is experiencing issues.

If you do want to root it, that's how you would do it. I never endorsed rooting though, since I think that in this case, if you just provided a bit more info, we could work it out without the potential of wiping all the data.
Have you tried completely uninstalling the app and any others that may conflict with it?

(REQ) Flashable power menu

Was going to give this a whirl myself, but I've had zero time lately. Wife has been drilling me left and right with house and yard work. Anyway, enough of the whining.
Was hoping someone could come up with a flashable extended power menu, that has REBOOT, REBOOT TO RECOVERY, AND REBOOT TO BOOTLOADER added. I know there's an Xposed module, but I hate using Xposed as I've always had issues and lag. I appear to be the only one it seems. Regardless, a flashable with these options has proven very handy on past devices running stock ROM.

That one and the reboot menu specific one. Most people don't notice any xposed issues it at all. I for one do. Very high attention to detail....hasn't always been a good thing. Regardless, having an APK or "module" that goes through a hack process will never work as well as it being coded in the actual system apk. Are Xposed processes easy and for the masses......yes. Are they the right way to do things.....no.

At least you learn something by modding. I looked over your thread and don't feel comfortable flashing it on my American Sprint phone. I seen it has data issues with Sprint, and I don't have the time to debug problems at the moment. Also, in the past I've had BIG issues after flashing a T-Mobile ROM and firmware on my Sprint device. Caused way too many problems and I am very hesitant to do it again. Thanks for your work though!:good:
I figure I'll get around to it anyway. Probably after the next Android update.....
This is one of the easiest things to do as far as smali hacking goes, and there are countless guides for other devices that I've seen on how to do it. Maybe none specifically for 4.4.2, but the back-end code is still going to be the same thing that goes in, as it has been for several versions of Android. I'd say it's going to take you longer to get the proper tools to do the changes, than actually making them.

I notice lag/stuttering whenever I use xposed framework, not modifying an apk. Have tried the reboot menu module, gravity box module, and the hot spot module. Have tried them alone, and together. As soon as I remove xposed or reflash the firmware, my issues stop. Have tried a few different versions of xposed as well. Same thing every time. There are others I've briefly talked to who notice the same issues, on different devices.
Xposed is a great option to have, but it's not for me.
@ramon20 hey man, if you could make me a flashable zip for the basic advanced reboot on stock ROM I would be eternally grateful. I hate the xposed version I feel they look cheap. Here's a link to frameworkres.apk and androidpolicy.jar for unlocked gsm xt1053. This version of frameworkres has safe headset volume removed if you need the original please let me know.

Or The method I use is power toggles which i think also has all those reboot features as options

Update: was wrong power toggles only has reboot and shutdown menu as options

Trouble enabling ART

Hey guys. I got my G3 this Wednesday and I'm loving it so far. I came from an iPhone most recently. But I've had plenty of android devices. I tried enabling art but it won't stick.
I go into developer options select ART, the warning message pops up. I select yes. The phone restarts but the apps don't go through the process of upgrading. When I check developer options it's still on Dalvik. I'm not sure why it's not sticking and I haven't seen anyone else mention it.
I am rooted using towelroot. I haven't had any problems with the phone. What do you guys think it can be? Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
No matter what, I can never stay away from android for long.

You sir are awesome. I forgot to mention that I was. Yes I installed xposed due to Isis not loading because of root. I have $30 on there I didn't want to lose. Once I use up the free $30 I'll uninstall it. I am not currently using xposed for anything else besides the root bypass.
Thank you so much for the quick response! ????

It can found under developer options which have to be hidden first. Settings, General tab, about, and scroll to build number. Tap on builder until the message comes up that you are now a developer. Once you see that you can hit the back button and you'll developer options. Under select runtime you can choose between Dalvik and ART. You can read more about the differences between ART and Dalvik here in the forums.

Remember to uninstall exposed from inside the frame work. The first time I uninstalled it using a 3rd party app and my phone would not change to ART. So I had to reinstall the frame work and uninstall from inside exposed. Then I switched to ART with no problems.

No bugs and no battery drain. This thing just flies. Battery is going good for almost two and a half days with moderate use. I do not play games with my phone so I can't comment on battery life for gamer's.

Yes, but installing exposed will switch the run-time back to Dalvik since exposed is not currently compatible with ART.

trouble enabling art
I too cannot run art. When I select it the device reboots but will only stay on salvia and will not change to art. I have performed latest ota vzw update to vs98511c. I am rooted with towelroot, stock recovery image and still have all vzw bloatware intact just disabled. I did install xposed framework and g3 tweaksbox a long time ago yet i have tweaksbox uninstalled and may need a refresher on uninstalling xposed framework for verification. I have performed two fdr thinking sw was just buggy yet issue persists. Any help would be appreciated and i also had another quesyion for another topic board/off topic opinion.
Thanks,
Chris
So I installed g3 tweaksbox trying to uninstall framework from within and I get a message telling me exposed framework is missing...

[Q] spotify plays on startup! why?

Spotify plays when I power my phone on. Started a week or so ago. I checked the app and I don't see anything about play at startup. I think a couple weeks ago poweramp was doing this. Something must be triggering it but I can't find it. Any one have experience with this? Or know how I can find the reason. Is there a way to see what the CPU and ROM is loading at startup? Rooted 4.4.4 xposed.

Might be when the sdcard is mounted at startup or whatever. Just want to know what.
Do you mean it actually plays music when you boot the phone?
Must be some other app causing that.

Yup! Been playing spotify for the last week on startup. Think it might of played poweramp or something (maybe but not sure) last week.
Not sure what's causing it but you might try Autostarts (play store)...You can disable startup events for each app.
I would try reinstalling it but I'm assuming it's something to do with your setup. Perhaps an xposed module?

OP6 Android P dev 3

Hey guys I was wondering if anybody is having any issues with the OnePlus 6 running Android P Dev 3 with sending and receiving phone calls SMS and MMS?
No DP3 is very solid for me!
So far it has been very smooth for me as well. The other day I was having issues with sending an MMS and it was because I didn't have all the permissions set.
Side note. Has anyone done a dirty upgrade. Rather not wipe, and I'm hearing it works.

A few people on this thread have commented here and there that they've dirty flashed without any issues. For me, I've been experiencing inconsistent battery drain although it seems like it's settling down somewhat after about a week of use. I've also gotten a couple of crash dumps.

Dirty flash here and running good. This is my second install though, both dirty flash over 5.1.9. this first time I was having some connection issues so I rolled back. Then I got bored and decided to try it again, and no issues so far this time. :good:
Can anyone confirm how safe it is to update will it be safe to use it as a daily driver?

Thanks for feedback. I may take the jump today.
Yeah so far this rom is pretty smooth no major issues. A few app crashes here and there but it's probably because the apps haven't been updated yet to run with Android 9.
I dirty flashed then did a factory reset.
Any body else have a persistent carat symbol on the OnePlus Launcher? Can't get it off no matter what I do.

Should only be there on your home screens to show that you slide up for all apps list. Definitely shouldn't be there on the dock. Did you try clearing cache in recovery? Are you completely stock on the P beta, or are you using other mods/changes to the system?

Completely stock. There are actually 2 carats on the home screen, a bigger one and the small one seen in the screenshots.
Doesn't effect performance, just annoying.
Have cleared cache from recovery and on just about every system app that it will allow me to clear it. Can't downgrade the launcher unfortunately.
My OCD won't allow me to look past it lol
