Android 2.2 FroYo - Sync all contacts but only display specific groups?

Anyone know if there is a way to do this?
I have 7500+ contacts both for business and my personal contacts.
I need all of them but only use specific groups on a regular basis. Is there a way to sync all the contacts but only show lets say Family, Friends groups in the contact list.
But when you tap menu > search and search for a specific name itll search through all of them and show the results? In other words hide specific groups but still sync them.
If this is in the wrong section please forgive me.. Its a general question and not device specific which is why i posted here.
Have you tried going to contacts...hit menu...then hit display options? I'm pretty sure it's the same as 2.1
If you have an Android phone from HTC with Sense, then what you request is standard functionality already in 2.1. You can tag your contacts, put them in respective groups (like family, business, vip) or even create your own ones.
The only problem I would see is the size of the contact storage with that amount of contacts. I have only about 450 contacts with minimal contact info, but the contact storage is already 13.7 MB.

[Q] personal information crawl

Hi guys,
I'm trying to build an application that can crawl personal information of the phone user (like gmail address, facebook id, phone's name, owner's name, current phone number, contact list ...)
I believe these information is available on the phone (can be accessed via settings page) and can be retrieved, but I have found no solution so far
Any advice will be greatly appreciated

Android Address Book Bug. Pick from contact is wrong.

Hi. I appear to have a bug in my x10 Mini address book (Eclair). Both apps I have (Contact Owner and Andrive) that allow me to pick a pre-defined contact from my address book get information from a different contact to the one I am picking. I have tried experimenting with different contacts and it would seem that there is a small subset of contacts that this picking method chooses instead of the one I want. I can force it to pick the contact I want by making a new one first but this is a pain because it is then a duplicate of one that exists. Any clues as to what is happening and how I can fix it?

[Q] Where is the Contacts Database Boost HTC ONE SV USA

Need help locating the Contacts database on my phone with all of the contact information.
On my phone it is actually called "People".
I want to use SQLite to globally modify Add, Edit and replace data. I sure hope this is doable. When I imported my contacts from Outlook I discovered how unconventional the android list format is. The table structure is modified for each record it seems like a custom record for each contact.
Not a problem if I can find it.
Anyway Im new to Android any help find the path to the database would be greatly appreciated
Regards
Robert

CalCall Beta Release

CalCall:-
This is my first app. This is new concept can be helpful to many. You can post your review here about the app and improvements I can do to it.
This is a BETA Product and may have some bugs. We are improving on the concept.
This app basically uses the GOOGLE CALENDAR as the Source of Information to display the Name of the caller on call screen during call. So please install Google Calendar from the Store.
Concept :-
In Business we receive lots of calls but we can't store all those numbers in our contact, as most of the times we only receive the calls of clients/others which are temporary. Storing the number in our contact may clutter the contact book making it difficult to maintain.
Also if we have multiple devices storing the contact on one device won't display the Caller ID on the other device. Synchronizing contact can be sometimes difficult. This will create the same problem of cluttered Address Book.
We normally store our appointments in the Calendar along with the number of client. Why not search the same during call. This is our solution to the problem.
This basically uses
1) Calendar as your secondary contact book.
2) Calendars can be synchronized, hence essentially making the synchronized secondary contact book.
3) This app can display additional information stored in the calendar along the contact. (For alpha stage only the location is being displayed. later will come other options)
Just store the information of the client in the Title of Calendar along with his number in the Description. And same will be displayed during the call on screen.
