Hey guys not sure if this is the right spot but had a question.
I recently flashed cynogenMod 7.2 on my inspire (att) everything was succesfull and i really love the ROM. However, I have no apps now. I did do a search (including the ones that pop up upon creation of this thread.)
I also dont have the market place/google play. I saw a site that claimed you just download the .apk file and move it to the support/apps folder (at least this is what i found worked for some) If i try to install the apps (by going to the site, weather.com for example) it tells me the app is already installed.
I dont believe i backed them up using titanium or anything like that. I just flashed the new rom. (actually flashed a few to see what i liked) If i can just get the market place and install apps from there ill be square.
Again sorry if this is such a noob question. thanks for such an awesome forum!

You can just unzip a rom on computer and take apk out of it in system-app folder. If you have es file explorer use it to install or root explorer to place in right place.
Also if T's not called market if its updated its called play store so you might have it but looking in wrong place blood under p in app drawer.

so basically i can take the cynogen zip file, open it on my pc, put the .apk for the google play store, put it in the ROMS syste/apps folder, then replace this zip file for the one thats on my sd card? or will i need to reflash from the new zip file with the google play in it?
I guess you are looking for the Google Apps. They are called gapps. Look in the CM post where you downloaded the ROM. There is a link for gapps.
All CM threads have a link for google apps or Gapps usually in the first thread. Look there. Do a search on google for "Google Play Store 3.5.16 download". Not sure if it is the most recent but it should be close. Just install it like a normal app.
Dang-it, kimtyson beat me by 2.83 seconds. lol
found the correct gapp file but how do i install it?
note: i installed one from an apk file but it crashed everytime i ran it.

alright guys, figured out how to install from the recovery page but its still not working, it all installs fine, but when i run it says 'server error.'
one is an older gapp build the other is the newest one, both did the same thing.

Use the file manager or other root explorer, find the file and keep press...when options prompt then press properties. You will get a large number (alphanumerical) just compare it with the one provided...
If not, use the adb commands...open a cmd session and go to where the file is (usually in the root of the sdcard) then type MD5sum "name of the file"

basically all i did was find a few roms to try out, flashed one, if i didnt like it i would flash the other. one hung up and wouldnt boot so i flashed cynogen back from a backed up installation.
from there ive tried just installing gapps of 2 different types from the option "install zip from sd card."

Also make sure that the GAPPS you are flashing is for the CM version you have flashed....don´t flash CM7.2 and GAPPS for ICS cause it won´t work...
got it figured out, somehow i found a link that listed a ton of builds for the gapps, but then i found 2 seperate links that were to individual builds, those were what i needed. thanks for your help guys!
Well, I have a Samsung Galaxy S 4G from T-Mobile. I recently just started to get new apps, themes, and launchers. I saw the Holo Launcher and it seemed pretty good. I liked the whole "ICS" feel of it.
I looked at rooting and flashing ROMs, kernels, and modems. I just needed some help with some questions I had. So if you could help me, that would be great, because I'm a kind of paranoid person and I don't want to screw up my phone.
What is CWM? And do you have to install this onto the phone or is it already there?
How do you enter CWM on this particular phone?
Does it matter which way you root? Will the way you root impact other decisions you will have to make in the future for the phone? Or does it not matter? And what is the best and easiest way to root?
Is it possible to unbrick a phone?
When you have a flashed ROM on, what if you want to flash another ROM? Do you have to flash back to stock or can you just flash the new ROM?
In the Unofficial CM9 ROM, one of the steps say: "(Optional) Flash gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip if you want the Market plus other Google apps." Do you have to do this with every ROM? And do you just flash it on the same way as a ROM? What is the process in this context?
How do you know what version your CWM is?
Finally, does anyone have a video tutorial that they could give me that is specific to the Unofficial CM9 ROM?
If you could answer any of these, thank you. I'm just a paranoid person when it comes to things like this.
Start here - this is our Wiki: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_4G
Read it once, then read it again. That will answer most of your questions.
gapps isn't covered in the Wiki, but basically, as I understand it, for some legal reason the Google applications and some of their required libraries can't be distributed with CyanogenMod / AOKP and similar ROMs. As a result, they are packaged separately. There are different versions for GB and for ICS.
You don't need to install them, but you won't be able to access Play / Maps / GMail / Google Calendar / Google Contacts and the like without installing at least some of the zip. You do need to re-install it after every flash as they get installed in the "system" part of your phone, not the "user" part.
And one more thing. Where do the NANDroid Backups go? Do I need to put it on my computer or will it always be in my phone?

When you make a Nandroid backup, it is saved in a folder called clockworkmod on your SD Card - something like sdcard>clockworkmod>backup. You should definitely also save a copy of that folder to your computer, just in case.
Okay, and also...
Do I always have to delete the data/cache when installing a ROM? And do you always have to do UMMU?

Wipe for flash of new rom.
Or wipe data/system/delvic cache/cache.

i'm on this rom now. i'd like to stay on it - after i get some important issues resolved.
backups using the script does not work. as you'll see, i've tried 7 storage options.
copying to usb otg using the included root explorer and es file explorer does not work.
edit: since you've been successful in deodexing stock kk rom, can you release a S005 version without any tweaks at all?
no pre-root/busybox/init.d/build.prop tweaks etc. this is so everything works as in a newly bought phone. thanks.
@m0han sir,
Sir As i already gave u the results here when i used ur script in this rom.
The error u getting its cause of root permissions only.
the file system is read only so this app doesn't have root permission to write.
Please check root permissions using any root checker app.
I will try to make that stock untouched version - it will take 5 mins to make but much time to upload.
we can use this stock kk as base and delete some files and u can get that version.

Thank you sir for testing this script.
@m0han It clearly shows that this script is someway dependent on CWM based recovery as it worked on philz and CTR3.0.
You've stumbled across here because you're either a noob, or a very confused person, or ran across some errors that made you choose another ROM. (Or some random lurker) I've created this thread to make it as detailed and user friendly as possible. Anyways without further ado:
I will not be responsible for anything that happens to your device. Follow my instructions carefully, and everything should work fine. This thread is here inorder to prevent the constant reporting of misleading bugs due to a dirty or unorganized way of flashing roms.

Instructions for installing Lollipop:
Requirements:
- Bootloader unlocked Xperia L
- USB cable for the phone
- A computer with flashtool installed along with the necessary drivers.
1. Download the latest version of CM12 or any other lollipop rom along with the Gapps package. I recommend that you use this (use 5.0x for CM12). Download Thunderzap 4.1 as well. (Don't ask why, but make sure you have this in your computer.) Place the ROM and gapps zip files in your SD card or internal storage.
2. The best way to install any custom ROM is to flash them coming from a stock rom. (Skip this step if you're already on stock 1.17) So if you're not on stock, go ahead and grab an FTF from my thread. (Latest version 1.17 - recommended) Flash the stock rom. If you don't know how to do that use this guide as a reference. Do NOT exclude anything.
3. Now you need to flash a custom kernel. To do this, locate and extract the thunderzap 4.1.zip you downloaded earlier on your computer. Then pull out (or copy it somewhere else) the bootjbcwm.img file. You'll need to flash this file via fastboot. If you know how to do that, skip the next step and proceed to step 5.
4. Power off your phone. Open flashtool and select the flash icon. Now hold the volume up button and plug in your Xperia L to your computer via USB. Select fastboot mode. Under "By DoomLoRD", select the option, "select kernel to flash". Now right above the open button you should see an arrow where it says *.sin. Select that and choose *.img. Locate the bootjbcwm.img file and select it. In a matter of seconds the kernel should be successfully flashed. Now turn on your phone, and hold the volume up button when the LED lights up. You have now entered CWM recovery.
5. Enter CWM recovery if you haven't. (when turning on your phone, and hold the volume up button when the LED lights up.) Once you're here select factory reset and select yes. Then select wipe cache, and under advanced select wipe dalvik cache. Once you've done all of this go back, and select 'mounts and storage' and select wipe system. Now go back and select Install zip, and locate the CM12 (or any other lollipop ROM) zip file. Flash the CM12 zip file and allow it to be completed. Once completed flash the gapps zip file.
6. Now go back and select reboot system. If it asks you to root select no. And there ya go! this is all that you need to do for a clean installation. This method allows to reduce the existence of bugs encountered due to dirty or a disorganized way of flashing roms. Sit back and relax and allow your phone to boot.
Instructions for installing root: (CM12)
Instructions for enabling root on Lollipop:
1. Go to settings. Scroll down and select(tap) build number, 7 times to enable developer options.
2. Return to settings and select developer options. Scroll down and select Root access. From here you can select either Apps only or Apps and ADB to allow root access. For starters you can select apps, and for those who are well aware of what ADB means you can select Apps and ADB. I won't be telling you what ADB means, you can Google this yourself.
3. Exit settings and open up playstore. Search SuperSu and download it. Once it has been downloaded and installed, open it. It will display a message saying, "SuperSU binary needs to be updated." Select continue, and then it'll display a message with the options, "Normal" and "TWRP/CWM". Select Normal, and any moment a message from privacy guard should appear. Make sure you check the "remember my choice" button and select grant.
4. Once granted permission from privacy gaurd, it will ask you to reboot, so reboot your phone.
5. There you go, you got root access now quit buggin people will ya!

My tutorial on the first post is about installing CyanogenMod nightlies for the first time. It's always best to go from stock. I know he's fixed TWRP but still, when its your first time, that's the best way to go. However after you've flashed CM12, you can either use his recovery for dirty flashing and clean flashing (Wipe data, system and cache).
I'm busy so I'll get back to this later.

You can use Bluetooth and copy data via USB. I don't know about USB charging, maybe someone else here can answer that.
About moving apps to SD card, you can move certain apps to your SD card, by navigating to settings>apps. This doesn't let you move all of them, only some. Using the gapps package provided in this this you shouldn't worry too much about space unless you're gonna be installing 4+ drawers of apps lol.

No I use TWRP recovery but when I install cm12 zip via twrp recovery it automatically install cwm recovery.
with little to no activity lately for the LGV20, specifically the H918 T-Mobile variant I decided to look into creating a TWRP flashable package for the recent H91810k release. these zips flash every partition included in the latest KDZ package with the exception of recovery to keep TWRP. standard disclaimer applies, you do all of this at YOUR OWN risk! I've tested this on my device after backing up and so far so good on the latest 10k release. please report back in this thread on whether it was successful or not.
NOTE: you can find the partitions that will be flashed in the updater-script. to be extra cautious you can back up all of the partitions that will be overwritten with the following: dd if=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/{partition} of=/external_sd/backup/{partition}.img.
Instructions:
download H91810k.zip file listed below and put on microSD card
backup any data from internal "SD card"
boot into TWRP (requires TWRP recovery to already be installed)
create a TWRP backup of the device
flash zip from microSD card by using "Install"
flash your choice of root, either Magisk or SuperSU *Note: v12.0 of Magisk does not work with the LGV20 device in general and v11.6 is recommended.
reboot
profit!
Download:
H91810k
md5sum: ab181ec82315b656a7af48f0017f4e8c - version 1 with misc partition included (SORRY)
md5sum: 8ad07ae70c4299b3ea6e2bf747dbec1c - version 2 with misc partition removed
Flashing Process:
flash necessary partition images with the exception of recovery (to keep TWRP) from the KDZ
rename /system/recovery-from-boot.p to /system/recovery-from-boot.bak to prevent stock recovery from being installed on boot
wipes dalvik-cache and cache
BIG thanks to @McNutnut on guidance, as well as his script to put all of this together!
also thanks to @bullghost for the KDZ extractor (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2600575)
@Tilde88 for the original updater-script template w/root (https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/development/us996-nrd90m-modded-notsostock-rom-v5-1-t3526542)
First! This is sweet!
I just tried this and it works great. I prefer to use the stock rom and to get a rooted 10k that doesn't have any known security vulnerabilities is awesome. Some notes for others:
Copy SuperSU to the external SD card and flash it after this zip in TWRP.
Make sure to select all the partitions for back up in TWRP.
On the first boot after flashing, the phone will reboot by itself. This is probably normal. You will get an "Android is upgrading..." white screen. This is expected since the cache was wiped by the script. This will take a while to complete. Even when you get back into the system, an "Android is upgrading..." message will appear in the notification bar.
Clarification: The data on /sdcard doesn't get wiped, but it's a good idea to back it up just in case. The TWRP backup of the data partition does NOT include this stuff in the backup.
I had Busybox installed before, but I didn't have to reinstall it after the flash. I'm not sure why. I assumed that wiping out system would have required me to re-install Busybox. I guess Busybox doesn't get installed on the system partition?
Adblocking using apps like AdAway need to be rerun since the hosts.txt file will be reset.
Ignore the stuff under "Process" in the OP. It's explaining what the script does. You don't have to do any of that.
The script disables the updater software. You never have to worry about the next stock release causing you trouble!
I am having problems downloading this? I tried twice and it downloads but I cant find it?

pretty sure if that's the case then YOU did something wrong... the recovery image is NOT in this package at all so TWRP is left untouched.

what are you using to download?
I HAD TWRP and and after a while it went back to stock recovery
You did something other than flash the rom in this thread. Maybe you're confusing this thread with this one? https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/t-mobile-lgv20-h91810k-kdz-t3618021
If that's what you flashed, you will definitely end up with stock recovery and no root.
I've tried to install this ROM but it skips through each of partition rather quickly and it never installs. I'm on H91810j with root and TWRP installed. Any ideas? Thanks.

Did you have an external MicroSD card installed in your phone? Are you using that external MicroSD card to store the files to be flashed? What version of TWRP are you using?
Yep, on microsd. TWRP 3.0.2-1
OP says 10k, but you're on 10j?
Correct, currently on 10j

I would verify the md5sum of the downloaded file you have to what it should be, which is ab181ec82315b656a7af48f0017f4e8c

Hmm...the zip I downloaded has a checksum of 76bbccc0c9640d7f0005b529abf3873a and it uncompresses without issue!? Was there an earlier release?
Going to download again...

Can you provide more detail on what you did? You made a pretty strong statement that you lost TWRP.
Did you follow and flash what was written by the OP? Did you do flash something else after flashing what was provided by the OP? Or did you really have TWRP the whole time?
Not looking to cause an an argument but your 2 posts in this thread have made me hesitate flashing.
