I love my note 10.1, but I really would love to upgrade to 2014 version, but I would keep the 2014 version for years. That seems like a much better upgrade. I got this in April of last year and very good condition. Kept it in case at all times and have cover and screen protector.Any tips on how to? Trade in, or how much I can sell it for? And where? Thanks.
You sure you want to lose multi-window and gain Phone UI?
Have you tried it out for more than 15 minutes?
Wait

If i were you i would wait. i believe there will be other tablets in the near future with A Active stylus coming to market.I so wish for a 10 inch nexus device with a stylus input . The note 10.1 is much more Productive.
Just my opinion.
The 2014 model is very nice and much faster with excellent resolution. Not to mention feather light.
I returned mine however simply because I missed using my 2012 models dock and there isn't one available for the 2014. :crying:
..and yeah, the Pro models are right around the corner. the 12.2 is already on preorder.
Personally, it would be insane to order any Android tablets when Wacom Intel x86 Full Windows Tablets with the battery life and weight identical to Android Tablets are right around the corner.
For starters, Would be nice to finally have a fully complaint Web browser

So you would recommend I wait? What should I wait for? But, the price of my tablet will go down even further. I would not know what to do with my Note 10.1 tablet. But recommendations?
I really love my note 10.1, I wish for more speed though.
Also, which window tablet do you recommend?
And what do you mean upgrade to phone UI and lose multi-window?
Does the new Note not have that?

There are plenty of Windows Tablets that are already a phenomeno deal like the Venue 8 Pro http://www.engadget.com/products/dell/venue/8-pro/
I am waiting for something just like that but with a 10 inch screen, Atom CPU with 4 GB RAM and Wacom.
In regards to your question on the new Note, if you have the 2012 Note 10.1, just go to your local retail store and compare the interface.
Phone UI, for example, the notification drawer pulls down from the top and covers the entire screen
Multi-Window, ie you can no longer have cascading windows like you can in Windows and in Note 10.1 2012

Hey all
Im looking to venture into the world of tablets but with so many being available its all a little confusing! I like the look of the Nexus 7 for its power and incredibly good price but for me 7 inches is just a bigger phone I want something with the price tag and power (near enough) of a Nexus but with something like a 10 inch screen to make it feel like an actual tablet. Im only 16 with a part time job so i cant go for something like the Asus Infinity even though i would love that
So start shouting out your tablet choices people!
Your choices are quite limited; 10 inchers are usually at least $400.
I would recommend watching slickdeals.net for some reburbished deal if you really need one. In truth, however, the difference between 7 inch and phone is already quite significant and it makes the most sense for your price point (short of a "cheap" brand like archos).
i think go for the ipad if you like a bigger screen than nexus 7 ipad is also have the speed.
I love the size of my nexus7 so far there's not much I don't love about this tablet!I hear they are releasing a 10 inch soon so you could wait for that but I don't know if it will be tegra3 or Qualcomm. Again this tablet rocks! Rooted w/ stock ROM cwm recovery & trinity kernel.

I would recommend the Toshiba Excite 10 inch. It has HDMI out with an SD card slot. That's the tablet I would get if I wanted one.
Another good option is the Asus as you mentioned. You can look up the Samsung Galaxy Note Tablet. It comes with a stylus and I think it has app that directly support it. You can't go wrong with any of these. Just pick the features that you want and get it. I would suggest going to your local electronics store and trying them out to see which one you like as each of them have customized their Android OS with their custom apps and settings. All of the mentioned above have quad cores so you can't go wrong with that.
If you're looking for smaller/cheaper then you can go with the Samsung Galaxy Player 5. Its $200 and its what I use for my "tablet" experience. Its smaller and portable than the above but that may not be what you want. Note that this is a single core so you're sacrificing power and size but you gain portability.

I dont mind saving up for the more pricey tablets because im currently 4 weeks into my summer holidays and the rest of my work has to fit around my A-Levels.
A 10inch Nexus would be great but the realease date could be a while yet!
I wont be taking the tablet out the house much only to go away to my Caravan every weekend

If you are desperate for a larger tablet then you could pick up something like the Galaxy Tab. It's a bit older than the Nexus, but stil pretty decent, especially if you run ICS.
It's on for sale for £279 at carphone warehouse www.carphonewarehouse.com/mobiles/m..._WIFI_16GB/HANDSET?portal=GLSHOP&promo=GLSHOP
Otherwise I'd recommend a Nexus 7.

I think i might wait for the Nexus 10 but the Galaxy note 10.1 is catching my eye although its aimed at artists and creative people ( I cant draw to save my life )
I have the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, and i have been loving it so far! I haven't even needed to root it, i'm still stock and its quick with a beautiful screen! I got the 16GB WiFi version with a 32GB MicroSD b/c i watch TV on it while i'm at work. The battery life is just AMAZING! I don't think i've ever gone lower than 50%! And i watch shows and movies for HOURS! There is some noticeable lag every now and again, but its usually pretty peppy! And it comes stock with ICS, they have even rolled out 2 updates since i bought mine! Thats rare! No word yet on if it will get Jelly Bean, but it doesn't matter to me, i love this tabby! Good luck on your hunt!
A good tablet would be the Toshiba excite 10. It has a nice screen, tegra 3, several ports, and very good speakers. The best part is that it's only $300 at Costco.

Just finished reading the Spec's on this thing and it looks like the perfect tablet I've been waiting for. I wish Samsung would pick up their skirt and get dirty on the galaxy tabs but until they do I'm seriously considering picking up this guy. I've been on an iPad 2 and need to get away from the apple ecosystem.
What are your impressions on this tablet and do you think there will be community support for it. I don't want something I can't root.

I'm glad to see more 4x3 android tablets and am strongly considering the Slate 8 pro. I really don't like 16x10 for a tablet.
looks like you can buy one now. $329 isnt too bad, but it only has 1gb of ram. previews mentioned it would have 2gb i think

Yeah what we're they thinking with 1 gig?
my guess is it was to keep the price down. something tells me they'll probably have a slate 10 pro eventually. maybe they'll put 2gb in that one instead
Anyone buy this bad boy yet? It's available at B&h and now online at Best Buy too.
Does it come with multi-year out of the box?
I picked up the Acer Iconia A1 810 at Staples for $99 and I love the 4x3 ratio. It makes me think I need to buy the Slate 8 pro as a faster, higher resolution replacement.
I'm a bit worried about the 1 gig though, particularly since I want multi-user. What does android do when it's out of ram? Kill apps? Pop up errors?
Been keeping a keen eye on this one too since its announcement - pretty much the same reason as all the above posts.
15% off from the UK's HP website for Cyber Monday (today) was just enough incentive for me to hit the "buy" button... its still £237 after the discount - ouch!! >_<
I'll report back once it arrives if any one is interested?

I picked up a slate 8 pro and it seems they still have some bugs to work out.
1) I setup two users but Android hangs when I try to switch users.
2) I can't seem to type quickly without dropping a significant number of characters. At first I thought it was my mistakes but it happens far more than on my other tablets (Note 8 and Acer Iconia A1). It might be a periodic screen freeze issue? All I know it's that I can't type quickly and accurately at all. Blocks of characters end up missing.
3) It makes weird clicking noises. I believe it's the camera lens. I don't know if it's adjusting to light or what but it's super annoying.
I was hoping the Slate 8 pro would combine the pros of my two tablets: the 4x3 aspect ratio of the Acer and the higher screen quality of the Note 8. But at this point either of the other tablets is more pleasant to use. Hrmph.
I have until Jan 15th to return it to best buy. Maybe they'll have a fix worked out by then.
Another disappointment is that the scrolling in apps like Facebook is still choppy. I was hoping some new hardware and a better GPU would make it liquid smooth. Not even close. I guess it's Android or the app itself that sucks.
The volume rocker is a bad design and is quite inconvenient to use I could live with this though.
But fast typing is impossible. If this isn't fixed it's unusable.
EDIT: it looks like the typing was related to swiftkey. I'm not having the problem with thumb-keyboard.
My first post!
Hello all,
I currently own an asus tf300 tablet, which I bought last year in 2012. Now that I am a supporter of nvidia, I decided to buy a HP Slate 8 Pro for my sister as a xmas present because of the specs and tegra 4 of course.
I highly doubt she'll do a review, but hopefully (after she opens it) I can play around with it and share my impressions on it. I look forward to what you all think of the HP Slate 8 Pro!

I'm curious about the display - not the resolution, but the brightness.
I picked up one of the Gpad 8.3 tablets, and it was a terrible device for me because the screen was too dim to use outdoors. I saw a review in Laptop that pegged the gpad in the 275 or so lux range, where the Nexus 2013 and the Note 8 are both close to 500 lux.
If you dial the HP up to max brightness and hold it alongside the Note 8 at max brightness, how do they compare? I'm pretty interested in the HP, except that I haven't seen any discussion of how bright the screen really is.
Thanks!

how much can you pick these up for now?
I am waing the tablet 2 come out but seems they won't until next yr. so now i start to look for a lte ver shield tablet. But seems like they are out of stock on most of the reliable website (amazon, official website ,newegg). And i also concern will I buy a fire hazard at this moment?
I don't know when there will be retail stock again. Nvidia is dealing with a big recall that's eating up a lot of stock right now. There are a lot of new-in-box tablets available on eBay and on Swappa right now because people are selling their recall replacements tablets. Just make sure it's post-recall and it should have the new battery.
is there any thing i can check it carry new battery
Once you get the tablet you can check it in the settings
http://tabletrecall.expertproductinquiry.com/registration
The only way to check beforehand would be to get the serial number and see if it falls between 0410215901781 and 0425214604018. If you buy one that someone received from the recall, it should have the new battery, though there have been at least a few instances where people got the bad battery again.
To honest, I'm not sure I'd really recommend buying a Shield Tablet with all the issues they've had. I'm personally moving on to another tablet, as I find I don't really use the gaming features as much as I thought. Unless you really really need all the gaming features, you might be better off with something else.

It depends on how you're gonna use it. If you manage to get a Shield Tablet without any issues, it's still far and away the best tablet for Android gaming. It doesn't have a great screen or great battery life, and build quality seems very hit-or-miss, but other tablets can't match the gaming features.
I just picked up the Dell Venue 10 7000, mostly for the bigger, better screen and the keyboard dock. I'm happy with it so far.
The Dell Venue 8 7000 is a better direct comparison to the Shield Tablet in terms of size, screen is about the same size, but much better quality. Build quality and design seems nicer also. I played around with that one at Best Buy before I bought the Venue 10 7000.
There's also the Xperia Z3 tablet and the Nexus 9, which both look good, and Samsung's line-up, but I don't have any personal experience with those.

The tab s is nearly similar to the tab s2 with its specs. I have tha tab s 8.4 and it just rocks. Its light and thin and has good performance
I have an 8013 as well. I am currently using it as my desktop tablet at work. At home I have a tab pro 8.4 and my wife has a tab s 8.4. Both are awesome tablets. You can't go wrong with either one. The S is marginally better than the pro but you should be abnl to get the pro much cheaper. I would get which ever one you can get the best deal on. My newest toy is a Nexus 9. It has awesome front facing speakers like the 8013. It is somewhat unique in that it has a 4:3 screen ratio like the iPad does. It is worth looking at as well. The advantage to a Nexus tablet is guaranteed updates to the latest version of Android. Samsungs are iffy when it comes to updates. I tend to buy used and got each of the above mentioned tablets for about 200 each on craigslist.

This is not a rant thread, this just a discussion. I don't understand why samsung doesn't produce such a high quality tablet like the s7. Glass and aluminium build quality, the new exynos chip, vulkan, big ass battery etc. I would like a tablet to pair with my phone, that would look like it's from the same "collection", but we only have the tab s2 with joke of a battery, mid specs and plastic build quality
I imagine cost would be exorbitant
Typically, manufacturers are gaining a reputation, then the reputation works for them. Also came from Samsung
can but will not. . the market is no to big for it
Because there isn't enough sales volume to justify it. Even Apple can't sustain their iPad line and had to increase the price by $100 with the iPad Pro.

That would be awesome. Straight competitor with the ipad. I would definately buy one. But im sure it would be expensive like others have said.
So what it would cost as much as an ipad, Apple still sells them. Right now the ipad has no competition in terms of a media consumption tablet. I own an air 2 but I would trade it for an android tablet with the same specs of the s7 edge and same build quality.
Tab S2 is pretty good though
I still have my Note 10.1 2014 edition and love it. Battery life is starting to falter as it is over 2 years old now... But other than that it's still kicking ass.

Same! I love mine! Especially since it got Lollipop. The build isn't as great: plastic bezel, faux leather back, but I still really like it. And even if you don't put a case on your phone, you should definitely put one with a flip cover on a tablet anyway.

Whichever way you cut it, Windows 10 isn't a tablet OS. I have a Surface Pro 3, and before that had a Surface 3, 2, and RT.
Whilst they are all very good machines, I can count on one hand the number of times I used them without a keyboard as a tablet - I'd almost invariably pick up an Android tablet instead.
I can't see the TabPro being any different.

For a tablet with the brilliant quality as S7, the tablet price will be expensive than S7. For a small market with a expensive price, that is not a good strategy.

That's just because you are used to using Windows a certain way. Tab Pro S with Windows 10 is infinitely better than Android, because now it can actually run decent applications and you don't have to worry about it not getting updates. The hardware isn't the best though, and would have wished for something larger and faster (surface pro 4 competitor with amoled screen).

Have to disagree. Most of the touch optimised W10 apps aren't a patch on their iOS or Android equivalents, or simply don't exist.
Yes, you can run "real" apps, but that isn't giving you a tablet experience.

I know you can run Android on Windows via apps like Bluestacks, but why bother?
The other thing about using W10 as a tablet OS is generally lousy standby time. I can pick up any of my Android tablets after a few days of non use and there will still be a decent amount of battery left - not iPad levels but good enough.
My Surface Pro 3 (and Surface 3, 2, and RT before) would generally have discharged itself completely long before the Android tablets.
