Dear All,
I want to make an Android mini App that have a small survery questionnaire having some 25 Questions and runs via Android Phone 4.1.2 ( Q-Mobile A600).
When all the data is collected full day so at the end of the day i get all the data on my Laptop when phone connects to WiFi (probabbly via DropBox) in Excel or Access.
I have tried Cellica Database Anywhere and it is Perfectly fine but so much Expensive as i have 20 Devices. Can you please let me know some cheaper way to make a forum and i get data in office easily.

Compatible P2P applications

Hello.
I've been searching the interweb for file sharing clients that are compatible with the X7510 (in my case the O2 XDA Flint). Below are my brief reviews of each that I've tried.
Pocket G2 Pro: This is one of those fantastic little apps that was created and then abandoned, despite pleas from the PPC community, some years ago. This was basically a gnutella client similar to bearshare, frostwire, limewire etc. It worked well for small files (under 17mb I recall) and had a habbit of closing itself after prolonged periods of use. Unfortunately this app won't even start up on my X7510, and the apps domain (pocketG2.com) is now up for sale, so I guess there isn't a new version coming anytime soon.
WM Torrent: This is a torrent client similar to bit-torrent, u-torrent, vuse etc. It loads ok and the connection seems good but it only handles torrents, so it's not ideal for small files such as mp3s. I have unlimited data on my contract and started downloading a 50mb mpg file which had plenty of seeders (people sharing the file) on a GPRS connection. After several hours it had only downloaded 3% so I gave up. I will try this app again in a 3G area (if I can find one!) and see if it performs any better.
Mopiphant: This is another gnutella client that is popular with PPC users. I have tried several versions but none will open after installing them.
There seems to be room in the market for a gnutella client that is stable on this device. And lets face it, if any device could make use of file sharing on the go it's the X7510 with its huge memory, huge screen and meaty sterio speakers.
Does anyone know of a working P2P app for the X7510?
Phil.
Why?
this would destroy any data allowance you had with your providor. Its blatently against any TOS they have.
Use your desktop ?
O2 TOS state :
Data Charges
* For applicable tariffs with data capability: Unless a data or BlackBerry Bolt On is taken, your tariff will include O2 Web Daily under which data will be charged at £2.94 per MB up to a maximum of £0.98 per day (00:00am to 23:59pm). Once you have reached your maximum daily charge of £0.98, O2 Web Daily allows you unlimited use of Telefónica O2 UK Limited's Edge/GPRS/ 3G networks (as applicable to your handset), for personal internet use via your mobile phone. All usage must be for your private, personal and non-commercial purposes. You may not use your SIM Card:
o in, or connected to, any other device including modems;
o to allow the continuous streaming of any audio / video content, enable Voice over Internet (Voip), P2P or file sharing; or
o in such a way that adversely impacts the service to other O2 customers.
If O2 reasonably suspects you are not acting in accordance with this policy O2 reserves the right to impose further charges, impose network protection controls which may reduce your speed of transmission or disconnect your tariff at any time, having attempted to contact you first.

I quoted the wrong part, on that above link under "Data Bolt On Terms" it says the same.
Thanks for your feedback Embassy.
Lets assume that I'm a fully aware adult and therefore resposible for the mobile data contract I agreed to, and its usage. With this in mind - do you know of any working P2P apps?
BTW, this device is also WiFi equipped, so I could use a hot spot to do my downloading
None that I know of.
How about RDP into your desktop while mobile and download via P2P that way.
Install XAMPP on your desktop and you could host the downloaded file using FTP or HTTP and download from the device.
Could be wrong but pretty sure all those connetions would lag it out really bad, if you have peer gaurdian installed or run a netstat for example see how many connections are active.
I'm pretty certain I didn't understand most of that...
Are you saying I could use remote desktop to download the P2P files on my PC at home, and then use some kind of file-server (XAMPP) to copy the file to my PPC?
Mopiphant is emule network client, your right only bt works on ppc, we need to find some java apps or other code like python....
u got opennap too but i cant add opennap servers http://www.zdziarski.com/projects/zamar/
Thanks wolframio74, I'll take a look at that and see if I can get it working.

[Q] Office Mobile fully functional?

Hi guys,
I've searched this forum and haven't found an answer to my question, so I'm gonna post it here. (Hopefully I did the search right and didn't commit the felony of a double post. )
I'm planning on buying a new phone, mainly because my old HTC Charmer (WM 6.1) doesn't support SDHC cards and the maximum of 4GB of the cards I can use with it is just not enough any more.
So far, I've read quite some disappointing details about Windows Phone 7:
- No more "free" apps (by which I mean apps programmed by someone and offered somewhere, now it's the same sh** as with an iPhone or an Android phone)
- No direct USB-sync, which means you have to send your private information to the cloud in order to sync
- No "real" support for SD-Cards (and getting more storage space is the whole da** point here, otherwise I'm quite happy with my Charmer)
So, basically I thought about getting a second hand HTC Touch Pro II running WM 6.5 AND supporting NORMAL SDHC cards (meaning ALL cards which comply with the standard, not just the ones "certified by Microsoft").
But there might be one killer feature which could make me, well, not really forget, but maybe turn a blind eye to WP7's SHAMEFUL flaws: The new Microsoft Office Mobile. Often, I have some Excel spreadsheets which I need for work at different places. This is the only reason I have to take a laptop computer with me, apart from that my phone would be fine.
Office Mobile in WM 6.1 (or 6.5) couldn't display / make use of all the features the Desktop-Version offered (like extremely complicated formulae or spreadsheets and of course macros), and, moreover, after having worked on and saved an Office document on a phone, the features would even have been removed from the file in the conversion process, so the file was useless on the desktop as well.
Thus, I'm asking the following questions (which surprisingly haven't been answered on the net so far, or am I just too stupid to google it right?):
- Is the Office in WM 7 fully functional, meaning you can work on Excel sheets with the most complicated formulae and macros, or, asked more simple, can you do everything you can do with the Desktop version on your phone as well?
- If it doesn't offer everything the desktop versions offers, does it at least keep everything that was there in the original file after you change and save it on your phone? I mean, even if I can't use macros on the Windows Phone, it might still be helpful to open an .xls file on the phone, make a few changes (which don't require macros), save the file on the phone and after putting it back on a desktop computer having the file "unharmed" (meaning except for the small change I made on the phone everything else is as it was)?
Hopefully, I made my point clear enough, if not, I'm happy to answer questions on what it is exactly that I want to know. I think many users here already having a Windows phone will have tried working on Office documents on their phones and I hope those will share their experiences with me.
Many thanks for reading my post and even more thanks for answering.
Peter
Firstly,in terms of the functionalities of the excel,I don't think WP7 is suitable for you.
Furthermore, personally I prefer USB drag and drop the documents to my device, maybe you can call me old school.I just find the office useless for me since I don't have sharepoint,I don't want create a dropbox account just to upload my file to cloud and download it to my device again and I don't have a data plan. Therefore, until now, I still didn't use the office app once.
In your situation,I think you need an android phone to handle your job this moment, you can just purchase quick office, docs to go,depends on your personal preference. In addition, the only office app available is just microsoft office,no other choices.furthermore,as you said, you want transfer it back to your desktop unharm, therefore it is good to have drag and drop file transfer function rather than rely on dropbox, upload to the cloud and download on your desktop again.
On the other hand, there is no clear information about the mango updates which add more features to the office. So,I'll would suggest you to go with Android or iOS for this moment.
Thank you for the answer.

Free, in cost, there are plenty. Free as in not first checked by MS, kinda but no. You can developer unlock your device and sideload apps. However, that being said, MS are pretty good, they're only blocking apps which don't meet quality control standards (which I think is a good thing) or, somewhat contentiously, are "adult". They're not playing the same game as Apple.
I'm confused by you saying Android though. You can easily download and install programs (apk) on your device from any source (you just have to choose that option in the settings).
Office in Mango is improving - specifically:
1. Better support for formulae
2. Skydrive sync
So, yes, formulae can be created and manipulated in Excel, though I wouldn't say it's a replacement for the real Excel. It certainly can't run macros.
Skydrive is still "in the cloud" however, you're automatically registered to the free account by the virtue of having a live id. I still believe we should have USB file transfer but at least this is better than nothing.

Microsoft Shutting down Marketplace for Mobile & My Phone SVC

Just recieved an email:
Shut-down of Windows Marketplace for Mobile Web Site and My Phone Service Notification
June 8, 2011
Dear Windows Mobile 6.x customer:
Microsoft will be discontinuing the My Phone service for Windows Mobile 6.x. We will also be discontinuing the Windows Marketplace for Mobile web site. Because you may be affected, please review the details below:
Windows Marketplace for Mobile Web Site To Be Discontinued
The Windows Marketplace for Mobile web site at http://marketplace.windowsphone.com will no longer be available starting on July 15, 2011. After July 15, 2011, you will no longer be able to browse, buy or download applications for Windows Mobile 6.x phones via the Windows Marketplace for Mobile web site.
The Windows Marketplace for Mobile service will continue to be available on your phone, however. You will continue to be able to browse, buy and download applications for Windows Mobile 6.x on your phone.
My Phone To Be Discontinued
On August 7, 2011, the My Phone service will stop saving content from phones to the My Phone service. If you rely on the My Phone service to back-up the content on your Windows Mobile 6.x phone, you will be affected.
Starting on August 7, 2011, Microsoft will begin moving your My Phone content to Windows Live SkyDrive. SkyDrive is Microsoft's free online storage service that helps you access and share your files such as photos and Microsoft Office documents. Contacts, calendar entries, text messages and photos will be moved to SkyDrive for you. Once moved, you will be able to access this content by logging into SkyDrive using the Windows Live ID that you used to register for the My Phone service.
Other content types, including videos, music, documents and favorites will not be moved from My Phone to SkyDrive for you. If you want this content, you must save it from the My Phone service to your local PC.
On October 6, 2011, the My Phone web site at http://www.microsoft.com/myphone will no longer be available. On this date, you will no longer be able to log in to the My Phone service to access your content stored to the My Phone service. Microsoft will continue to store your My Phone content for one (1) year. Physical copies of your content can be shipped to you upon request until October 5, 2012.
Take Action
To learn more about the My Phone service shut-down, including information about your content moving to Windows Live SkyDrive and how to save other content to your local PC, please visit this web site:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2557520
Microsoft is committed to making this transition easy. In the meantime, we want to sincerely thank you for your use of Windows Mobile 6.x.

Got the same email a moment ago...
I never really used it that much but its pretty crappy that their shutting it down
they're transferring it to a new system, not shutting it down.
You'll still be able to access marketplace, and you'll still be able to back up your contacts etc.
If I see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2557520 I dont see any hint where similar service will be provided to backup contacts and SMS etc for WinMo 6.x.
I feel all users depended on Microsoft My Phone Service should now migrate to some other free service
Thanks.
My Phone-Locate lost phone
I wonder what happens to the Locate My Phone feature? I have the free service.
Annoyed by this. Will resort to SPB backup.
I won't miss either of them. Marketplace is a joke, anyway, and there are much better solutions for backing up.

I agree for Marketplace .
Can you suggest alternate for My Phone using online/cloud based solutions?
Thanks.
The Marketplace is a joke, but I heavily depend on the My Phone service.
I would be shocked if they created a Windows Mobile 6.x app for synchronizing with the new Windows Live Skydrive system.
TrueG
Same email here, well sad day for WM...
WP does not have a service like this at the time...
Really need to get a new device, I reckon this is the end of the last bit of support for Winmo
I don't really use the marketplace that much, but I do use the MyPhone service for backing up my contacts and SMS messages. It makes retrieving those items nice and quick when I'm updating the ROM or for some other reason. I also use google sync as I occasionally boot android on my HD2, so I can get access to the same contacts and calendar, but it doesn't sync all the texts.
I've had a look at the SkyDrive thing and from what they're saying, it looks like they'll migrate the stuff over to that from myphone, but I can't seem to find a way at the moment to sync your phone with it directly.
It seems like MS don't really want to support anything less than WP7, despite it only being out for around 9 months by the time the cut off date comes around and most people with smartphones are forced to take out 24 month contracts. As you can see, that means a whole load of people are going to be pissed off.
I've been a WM user for a long time and I would like to stick with it, but right now, it looks like MS have lost the battle. WP7 may have a better UI than 'droid or iOS, but there isn't the support for it when it comes to manufacturers and developers. The best WP7 phone out there has been out now for over half a year and the hardware inside it is virtually identical to a phone brought out a year previous to that. Why? Because that's what MS insisted the specs should be. I am seriously considering moving to a 'droid phone (possibly the Samsung Galaxy 2S when I can get it for a good enough price on my contract).
Seriously MS, sort yourselves out. You had a good product and you ballsed it up.
Farmer Ted, I would greatly appreciate if you could point to a free online service that does the same thing as MyPhone.
I agree that marketplace is really bad, but it aggregates a few apps that otherwise you would need to download the .cab and install al by yourself (like the Citrix client, a professional tool forgotten by iOS and Android - they have a client, but it is completely unable to open .ICA files because the OS is locked down).
anyway, the only way I can see this is that MS wants WM6.5 and 6.0 dead, like, NOW. And MyPhone was the ONLY feature of WM that did not exist in iOS and Android. Now apple launched a similar feature in iOS 5, and MS decides to shut down this feature.
well, I WAS waiting for Nokia to launch some WP7 phones to replace my aging HTC, but now I will not buy a fraking MS-branded phone not even if it is the last phone in the world. MS simply has zero respect for their user-base, and this is the proof.
edit: the saddest part of all this is that I am tied to a WM6.5 device only because of that Citrix client. when my HTC HD dies, I will have to buy a netbook to carry around and be able to connect to my work - because it's impossible for me to change the server configuration to work with the newer smartphone clients. (sorry for the rant here, but I'm really angry at MS).

Marketplace? what is it?
There a lot of apps in other platforms. I don't like windows. I prefer android.
As alternative you can try http://www.bloove.com It allows to backup your Windows Mobile phone (contacts and sms) or migrate data to any android phone.

Why does it have to be online? Hell, I just copy pim.vol to my sd card and call it good. I also use sk tools to back up my pim data to have an alternative. I'll copy the backups to a pc, so I have a failsafe. You could always upload the backups to some web service, but I guess I don't see the point. Doesn't windows live still backup contacts? I've done that as well, but have never used windows live or myphone to restore anything. I've just used it as a failsafe.
I don't really care about backing up texts; I just delete them whenever I flash, but if I wanted to save them I'd use sk tools to do it, and maybe use pimbackup as an alternate way to save them. Again, I'm not sure why a web service is needed to do it.

It has to be online, because we don't have time to copy pim.vol everyday! (Maybe, every few hours for few people.) We can't keep hitting those backup and restore buttons every now and then. We want everything to be seamless and requiring least possible human effort. We want polished ways. And we had it all. Now, we're habitual to it. We want it to be continued!

Most WM users I know are business users. These are the COO & CEO of small to medium sized business, or their sales force. I always have a backup device in my suitcase because I have left devices in planes after long flights, once it fell out in a NYC taxi & more than once it has been broken or otherwise incapacitated.
Now I don't particularly care about text messages, but Contacts, Phone Location, Documents, Videos used for presentations, Calendar, Tasks, Browser Favorites & the Items on my SD Card are different stories. One of the reasons I stuck with WM was the MyPhone Service. Where else can you back up or restore all this data in one central place & then retrieve it with any WM device or computer via the website?
Yes, Live does some neat things!!! But So does My Phon. So, why not integrate the features that are improvements? Why keep starting over every single time you develop a similar technology. It would be like the Tire manufacturers every year saying "Okay, we have a new material that is great on dry & wet or icy roads, So should we look at revisiting the SQUARE tire? No, you take features that set you apart, features that build value & integrate them. That is how you develop a superior product.
Now a backup program just WILL NOT cut it for those situations that we mobile workforce members occasionally find ourselves in. Neither can you just swap out the PIM volume in many occasions.
MyPhone has saved me on two separate occasions, everyone I know that also uses WM & is in this type of business have told me similar stories. Just like you may not use OnStar every day, but you sure are gonna be happy it's there the day you are on a back road & turned over in a ditch, or find yourself in Minnesota during winter and slide thru that stop sign into the ditch with your kids in the back seat at 16 below zero.
Backup of swapping PIM is great if you are a student or if you sit at a desk 9 to 5, Monday thru Friday, but when I get a call & need to grab the next plane to Chicago with nothing but my device & the overnight carry-on bag I keep in my pickup, that dog just don't hunt.

Webcam to Android App (Sound streaming soon)

Hi all,
Just wanted to share this app that found a little while ago and which was a great surprise for me.
Basically I was looking for an application that would let me see my place through my mobile phone.I tried a couple of apps but some needed really security camera systems but I just have a pc webcam..,others would not let me connect if i was not on the same network. And the best thing is that sound streaming will be implemented soon (as per the developer, who has shown a high customer service focus to me since I was unable to connect and spent a lot of time in helping me to sort it out)
This app can be used with 3G/Wifi connections... (just make sure you have a permanent public Ip address).
Lite version.

[Q] Is the Nvidia Shield Tablet the right tablet for me?

Greetings,
I have been on the look out for a tablet for quite some time now.
Some background information:
I am currently a University student, and I enjoy power hungry video games like Diablo3 (if you think d3 isn't power hungry, ok. It isn't the point of the thread.)
I owe a gaming pc - Nvidia 660Ti, and a Tablet / Ultrabook Hybrid - Asus Taichi 31.
I live in Malta. (A&T and T-Mobiles are not available, I have yet to contact them wheter they are willing to offer their services from abroad regarding a data plan) (to my knowledge acquired from these forums, there is currently no possible way to integrate voice calling / smsing with the mini sim. The mini sim is only used for data transfer correct?)
I understand barely nothing about android, roms and kernals, I am studying for a pharmacist. What little I know is mostly about desktops from my interest and sources are typically the internet and some local technicians I enjoy chatting with. (if any1 can point me to a good beginner guide, that would be great)
I am currently looking for something that is able to:
replace my phone - just calls and sms. My lack of education on android devices and a very narrow google search lead me to believe there are apps with this ability if you are always connected to an internet connection? which wouldnt be a problem with the LTE/4G?
good alternative for an mp3 player - main issue: buttery life - size doesn't matter because I use bluetooth headphones
use XBMC hub - i think this tablet can easily handle it
take decent quality photos
stream games from long distances (when I am at university example, from my home) - is the only limiting factor the speed of the internet connection? Is it possible to connect the internet via a cable? (ethernet to mini usb converter?)
My two main priorities are calling/texting and battery life.
I am yet to find a store who has this tablet on display so I can have a feel of the tablet, I do not know if 8'' is ridiculously large to carry around. And I think it also falls within personal preference.
What would you, if in my shoes, get? Should I look for a phablet? I personally find smart phones have a small screen, and the only use I have out of a phone is to text and call, so I would like to have the good out of both ends.
Thank you.

It can meet your needs. You can use Google Voice # and hangouts to make/receive calls. It is a beast at gaming and the nvidia game stream is great, however its huge. In my opinion WAY to big to be used as an everyday phone, and would only allow speak phone calls or through a blue tooth. The call quality is good though.
If you want a tablet I recommend it. However if you want a phone I suggest using a phone.
I would get the tablet then get a Moto G or a Moto E for free and use it as your phone.

GV is google voice? Yes I live in Malta, and thank you I didn't know that.
Is there any other way possible to have voice call / texting possibilities on this tablet?
