Im sick of the most useful apps being developed for the iPhone only.
Take this app for example

This app would be SO useful to UK WM users. The ability to remote record programs on your Sky+ or Sky+HD box would be extremely useful, yet we are being left out in the cold yet again.
This is seriously the last straw, im almost ready to jump ship next gen of phones.
Does anyone know of a WM equivilant?

As you might have seen on the "application" you linked in your post: it is again not a real application but a web service packed in an executable file for iPhones - something the world really does not need since service providers such as TiVo are launching their own stuff:

Im not talking about TiVO (which is not available in the UK), im talking specifically about Sky+.

you guys dont get it, this isnt a remote control app nor should I be required to buy a slingbox (expensive). The iphone app is simple, you sign in with your sky account username and password, you pull up a complete TV guide and you set recordings from the app. The app communicates with skys servers which then in turn send a signal to your sky box from wherever you are in the world and your box will record that programme.
Now, granted you can do this from the sky.com website, but typically its one of those sites that just doesnt work in Opera or pocket IE.

Tivo Mobile was released last month but don't know if that helps you.

Well, I got you already in first place! Even the iPhone Application is nothing but a modified webbrowser control, so, basically, you're loading the Sky+ website into your iPhone - and this is why I always wonder then people talk about 'aplication on the iPhone', mostly these are nothing but web services!
Sky+ is promissing and promoting the MOBILE REMOTE RECORDING on their website and I can't believe that OPERA can't view the site properly! You might wanna contact their technical support in order to get it solved!
Actually mate, it is possible to get one of the java apps for the sony phone to work aparently. Though I havent tried it on the diamond, but i did get it working on my wizard.
So, just download one of the sony ericson java remote record apps and install and try. Have a bit of a google.

You got 2 options to try here,
either just browse to the tv guide page on the sky page as normal, at the top it will give you the option for screen reader version. works a treat, bookmark it to save browsing the horrific sky homepage
you can always 1 up your iPhone freinds, grab skyfire browser, full web browsing including flash. just tried will check if it worked when I get home. Downside is skyfire needs good connection i.e wifi or 3g to work well.
either way less clutter on you phone, rather than the mess of utils you get on iPhone.

You forget 1 thing:
If you have only 1 single place then this single place will most likely make the decision for you which applications will be available to you and which not - this is (unfortunately) quite common in the Apple Store! I am quite happy that I can different stuff on different places! Often you get your stuff directly from the developer's website where you then find as well support and forums for the particular product.
Now, think about the following: each super market in the world would be Wal-Mart ... go a step further and try to determine what you might find in Wal-Mart if no other stores are around anymore ... go the final step and try to get support from an Wal-Mart employee for the product you bought ... brrrrr!
That java app (which I used to use on an old sony ericsson) does not and will not work on a touch HD with its lack of buttons

As the title suggests, I am looking for a vpn client that supports open VPN so I can tunnel all my traffic through it to get around chinese IP blocking. I've dl'd the one found here but it won't open on wm6.5....anyone get this or any other client working to route web traffic through a vpn service? THANKS!!!

I tried everything:
Proxies: I could add proxies in the winmo network config, but it seems either China Mobile blocks proxy connections (is that possible?) or it's winmo's fault. I tried many proxies from various websites and lists..
Windows VPN: Thats what I use on my PC to use Twitter/Facebook/Youtube and blocked news websites. Got my server in Germany running 24/7, and its really fast and stable. On windows mobile: no connection possible. It connects for 5 seconds, but as soon as I try to access internet or mail, it just disconnects. could be the slow EDGE network which is just not supporting constant data tunnels. But I tried with WiFi and it was the same, so.. Mabye I am stupid or my WinMo is. I hope the second, hehe..
Open VPN: The client is 2 years old and I guess thats the problem. Tried it once, but already a while ago. Didn't work as I remember correctly..
Other: There's clients for cisco vpn out there. My university WAS supporting this protocol, and with a cracked client (don't remember the name, just google it), it was possible to connect. At least in Germany. But EGDE/3G/WiFi, all no problem.
So I am in the same situation. I wanna use Twitter, Facebook and maaaany news websites, bought Kinoma Play but CAN'T PLAY, .. so if anyone has an idea here how to route traffic constantly through a different country, please share!

openvpn service with ziggurat29 client official support
I've been looking for an open-vpn service which can be supported by an open vpn client for wm.
The only thing I found is the combination Witopia service, with ziggurat29 openvpn client
It looks good, but the only drawback I've found, is that the annual payment is the only subscription option, not suitable for testing purposes.
All you have to do is to first configure the service on a PC, then copy the configuration files to a new configuration file to fit the open-vpn client for Windows Mobile

Initial issue/goal: Ports open or blocked over 3G/4g? Getting a reverse VNC connection working on an android phone.
Resolution: Ultra VNC SC basically allows someone behind a firewall or router to, without any configuration required, share their desktop with someone (you) for technical support or any other means. I use it for friends and family and such, and it works great, but the real question and purpose of this thread was about open ports on a 3G/4G connection and what VNC apps allow listening. This is what worked for me: Remote VNC Pro from the market (~$6), DynDNS from the market (free), a dynamic DNS account that is supported by the DynDNS application (like no-ip, dyndns, etc), and a personalized/configured version of Ultra VNC SC (linked below). Port 5900 works, as well as a few others, but 80, 8080, and 443 won't.
VNC Application: Remote VNC Pro (for the phone)
VNC Application: Ultra VNC SC (for the client)
Dynamic DNS: DynDNS (update agent)
Mods/Admins feel free to move this thread and/or lock delete if I am breaking any rules (like advertising?) or something.

I know with 4G you definitely get a publicly accessible IP without any proxy in the middle. I imagine 3G would be the same so it should be fine in that regards.
As for open ports, any app worth its chops should let you choose which port it listens on so that shouldn't be an issue.
Why don't you just buy one of the apps and give it a try? If it doesn't work you can always return it within 24 hours for a full refund.

Not sure if this should go here or not, but I'm trying to see if I can get a Reverse VNC Application going. Looking at existing VNC applications for Android, the only one that allows listen mode is Remote VNC Pro v1.7.7 and above. Unfortunately, since it is not free, I cannot test the listening capabilities. Listening aside, I suppose my biggest issue will be open ports. Given 3G/4G addresses (NAT, I assume?) are out of our control, does anyone know what ports are open and what ports are not?
Has anyone else tried? Interested? Suggestions? Here's what I have so far:
VNC Application: Looking at Remote VNC Pro (for the phone)
VNC Application: Ultra VNC SC (for the client)

Well the idea was to see if anyone had already tried this and/or had the application to save me time troubleshooting. Since there has been no response, save yours, I went ahead and purchased it.

Oh, it has the option to specify ports, but which ports are open over a 3G/4G connection is what I wanted to know. I tried 443 and 80, and both gave me permission errors. Surprisingly 1723 (PPTP) works, but VNC Pro on the phone just sits on the 'please wait while listening on <ip address>' screen forever. The computer running the Single Click VNC server says that the connection was successfully acquired, but the icon never changes colors (suggesting I am completely connected). The interesting thing is that when I cancel or close the connection on the computer, VNC Pro on my EVO closes the 'listening' window and gives me a java exception error.
*sigh* any ideas? I'm guessing the connection is going through but other traffic is getting blocked or something. Not sure what other ports to try, but I will fiddle around with it in the mean time.
Edit: I tried the standard ports on a local WiFi connection. I gave the phone a static IP, port forwarded everything appropriately, and then received the same results. I'm going to take a few screenshots and send and e-mail to the developer for now.
Edit: It appears to be an issue with Ultra VNC SC. Ultra VNC and Real VNC both worked by manually adding the viewer client from the installed server while using port 5900. Sort of defeats the purpose for me, but the developer said he would try it out and (hopefully) get it working.
Edit: The dev got back to me really quickly and we figured out the issues and fixed it over the weekend. He pushed out a new version of the application on Sunday. First post has been updated for those who care.
Bumping the thread for those who are interested in what worked for me, now that everything is fixed.
Nice, been interested in this. How is the refresh rate when your phone is on WiFi and also how is it on 3G?
I tried Screencast (http://code.google.com/p/androidscreencast/), but it only runs at 3-5 FPS, so it was pretty unusable.
I've only had it working for a day, and nobody has really needed my help, so my testing of the application has only been to confirm it works. The best thing I can say, for now, is that the reviews all brag about the performance and pinch-zoom, that the developer is pretty cool and was willing to return the application well beyond the 24 hour limit, should the application not meet my needs, and finally that he fixed the issue I was having in less than 48 hours from the time I reported it to him. Overall, as far as the application is concerned, I am pretty satisfied. For example, I wrote (and edited) this post while using it over 3G from my phone. I saw all the text as I was typing, so I would say the frame rate is satisfactory.
Edit: Wait, after following your link, I think you might be misunderstanding the purpose of this application. This allows you to control a PC from your Android, not the other way around. The purpose is to supply people with a pre-configured portable application that allows you to connect to the computer without any port forwarding or security changes on their machine. The application (uVNC SC) also "uninstalls" itself from their computer after the connection is closed. To reiterate, the primary benefit is to allow you (the admin) to connect to someone else (the user) without them having to do anything but double-click on your connection.
You're right. I misunderstood, didn't know what "reverse vnc" really meant.
Sorry, I knew people confused the two, so I could have been more clear. On that note, I am also interested in a... remote connection to my Android phone. Recording, in particular, would be great for demo's and setup instructions, given so many people have android devices now-days. But yeah, this is not the setup for that. =/

I want to support people OTA, since I don't need high framerates, just a view at some PC settings.
I have Remote VNC Pro and it allows the phone to Listen for incoming VNC connections. But it listens on a 10.20.xxx adress, instead of my WAN 3G/4G ip-adress.
I want to use GITSO (awesome little program) for the http://code.google.com/p/gitso/ support issues.
It works flawless pc-to-pc where I have my own portforward setup, saves tons of hassle with the people I want to support.
I see alot of threads around xda requesting miscellaneous apps or ports. I have written down a lot of my ideas and I'm not quite to the stage where I can make them myself, and I'm sure a few others are in the same boat. I don't see much of a point to keeping them a secret when there are alot of capable developers around here. If there are developers out there with free time that see a cool idea in this thread, try to give a mention to the person if you create the app!
3rd party app toggle
Just an app similar to adb toggle, that quickly toggles on 3rd party app installs. It's not secure to leave it on all the time, and for people with settings locked it can cut the time taken to install a 3rd party app. If you're an overachiever try toggling all app installs, not just 3rd party.
Password Scanner
Basically an app that just scans /data for SQLite entries and lists items associated with password fields. Plaintext is enough to make it useful for a lot of people, with options of a pro-version that cracks encrypted passwords.
Car Remote
This is the most challenging one I've thought of. It's an app that uses the device's radio antennas to unlock cars that have remote control locks. Time Machine
I thought of this while reading en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Year_2038_problem
A mod/app that messes with the clock to cause app compatibility issues, which could enable potential root exploits on devices which don't have current root methods. This one is risky because it is likely it result in bricks (yet another use if you want a device to be bricked in the event of a theft). I'm unsure if something like this would need root access to work.
Share your ideas! My apologies if any of these have been thought of, it wouldn't be the first time I've rethought the wheel.

oh don't let me get started on the list of ports I want haha. Top 3 would probably be cain & abel, cisco packet tracer, and something like encase.
cs6 is would be nice for sure though, adobe is really slacking with their tablet app. I see something like gimp coming before photoshop due to it's source being more available.
i would really like something like frozen synapse on a phone i think it would work really well.

I think car remotes work on the 400-500mhz spectrum so it will take some research to how compatible it could be with most phones, and that's not even exploring dongles.

My Nissan Altima Remote operates on 315Mhz whereas
Bluetooth operates on 2400–2480 MHz
GPS operates on 1575.42 & 1227.60 Mhz
Wifi operates on 2.4, 3.6 and 5 GHz
IR operates on 33 to 40 kHz or 50 to 60 kHz
All these antennae are not capable to transmit in any frequency band, they have been hardwired to operate on a particular band to save money and be power efficient.

When I get a phone call from a new contact ( so not currently in the contact list )
Create the contact with the name as date eg. DD MM YYYY & mark it as blocked

Some background information:
I am currently a University student, and I enjoy power hungry video games like Diablo3 (if you think d3 isn't power hungry, ok. It isn't the point of the thread.)
I owe a gaming pc - Nvidia 660Ti, and a Tablet / Ultrabook Hybrid - Asus Taichi 31.
I live in Malta. (A&T and T-Mobiles are not available, I have yet to contact them wheter they are willing to offer their services from abroad regarding a data plan) (to my knowledge acquired from these forums, there is currently no possible way to integrate voice calling / smsing with the mini sim. The mini sim is only used for data transfer correct?)
I understand barely nothing about android, roms and kernals, I am studying for a pharmacist. What little I know is mostly about desktops from my interest and sources are typically the internet and some local technicians I enjoy chatting with. (if any1 can point me to a good beginner guide, that would be great)
I am currently looking for something that is able to:
replace my phone - just calls and sms. My lack of education on android devices and a very narrow google search lead me to believe there are apps with this ability if you are always connected to an internet connection? which wouldnt be a problem with the LTE/4G?
good alternative for an mp3 player - main issue: buttery life - size doesn't matter because I use bluetooth headphones
use XBMC hub - i think this tablet can easily handle it
take decent quality photos
stream games from long distances (when I am at university example, from my home) - is the only limiting factor the speed of the internet connection? Is it possible to connect the internet via a cable? (ethernet to mini usb converter?)
My two main priorities are calling/texting and battery life.
I am yet to find a store who has this tablet on display so I can have a feel of the tablet, I do not know if 8'' is ridiculously large to carry around. And I think it also falls within personal preference.
What would you, if in my shoes, get? Should I look for a phablet? I personally find smart phones have a small screen, and the only use I have out of a phone is to text and call, so I would like to have the good out of both ends.

It can meet your needs. You can use Google Voice # and hangouts to make/receive calls. It is a beast at gaming and the nvidia game stream is great, however its huge. In my opinion WAY to big to be used as an everyday phone, and would only allow speak phone calls or through a blue tooth. The call quality is good though.
If you want a tablet I recommend it. However if you want a phone I suggest using a phone.
I would get the tablet then get a Moto G or a Moto E for free and use it as your phone.

GV is google voice? Yes I live in Malta, and thank you I didn't know that.
