Hello, I recently updated my Sony Xperia L to 4.2.2. There are several issues which I have faced which are explained as follows
1: Data Package not working (I mean at all)
2: Downloaded apps shortcut icon on homescreen disappear after a restart
3: Some of the apps not working fluently
I asked Sony on Google+ and they said to repair it through PC Companion (Steps were written). I followed the same procedure but still the same problem. Than they asked me to repair it through Update service, and I did that as well, and still, the same problem continues. Sony is not accepting that it is an update issue. If it isnt, can you please help me with it that what would be the solution? Please help me with this

Well first of all the 4.2.2 firmware is the buggy , even though you will repair it with pc companion, What pc companion will do is reinstall it ,nothing other than this is going on there. Well there is one option to downgrade to 4.1.2 .
except.rooting??

1: You have to create your APN by yourself
2: That happens with apps on SD card
3: App related. Did you do a factory reset?
I was with no bugs at all on 4.2.2... until i installed superusermod. Then i destroyed my phone and i can't get 4.2.2 anymore (reboots every 15 minutes).

Sir i didnt get that.. What is APN? And yes i did a factory reset as well.. And how ur 4.2 was bug free? Let me know if possible.. Otherwiise if it could be converted to 4.1.2 as before that was working fine
APN stands for access point name. You must configure it manually according to your operator.
You can get back to 4.1.2 using flashtool.

Hi guys.
I used to get a notification which was bugging me to update to 5.0.
I blocked that ongoing notification through Gravity Box (Xposed)
I don't know what has happened, but now when I go to system updates, I see "your system is up to date".
I could have downloaded the update last month but did not because of some root issues. Now when I want to upgrade, I can't.
Any idea on how to get the OTA update? (I can flash the zip, but don't want to)
Thanks!

You'll have to wait for it to come round again.
Wait for the notification? But why? It was available a few days ago... Vanished after I installed the Closed framework.
I also installed eggster for different easter eggs. Can that be a problem?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
The notification goes after a while if you don't accept it. You go to the back of the queue. Sounds like you've made enough modifications for the ota not to work anyway
Okay, this might sound stupid but... Making a lot of modifications disables the OTA or something?

OTA requires no modified files to apply. You'll still get the notification (when its your turn again) but the install will fail
I believe he means, too many modifications that differs from the OTA zip.
Restore the factory image, or side-load it.
I don't k ow if this method still works, but:
Google Services Framework, Force Stop, Clear App Data, then go check System Update.
Service cannot be stopped. Rebooted quite a few times now.
Looks like I'll have to install the factory image directly.

Flash the 5.0 image manualy in fastboot or better yet wait a bit more for the 5.0.1 image to be posted by Google.
The funny thing is, I got a notification to update even after rooting, patching apps etc.
It is only after I installed Xposed that the OTA vanished.
Some people say that even the presence of SU app can fail the update. Is it true?

Look in the general thread OTA thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/ref-nexus-5-stock-ota-urls-t2475327, the OTA is still available there. First reflash the latest 4.4.4 Nexus 5 image and after that sideload flash the OTA in recovery. Backup your files first before flashing 4.4.4 again.
I will flash the 5.0.1 directly now. Thanks all.

There is no link between modifications and the notification. The notification would have disappeared even if you were stock unrooted. The fact it disappeared after installing xposed is pureb coincidence
Oh okay. Thanks!
My G3 has 5.0.1 and I have rooted it. Nothing more.
I got notification of the latest update, which had VoLTE, something about Uber (which is already in my bloatware) and something else.
I have only rooted this phone, however while I was searching around on xda to see if anyone else has gone through this update with root, I found a 1-line fix to disable authentication on WiFi tether. I did that, and then some time later I got a pop-up saying my phone is suspected of being rooted, so the update would be disabled. I then reversed the WiFi tether change, and checked for update and it _seems_ like it is ready to do the update.
But, has anyone out there gone through this update while rooted? Did that work and you only had to root again?
Or do I have to un-root?

I'm in the exact same boat as you. Can't finish the update due to being rooted before. Even if you factory reset it will still say you're suspected of rooting.
Here is my thread just in case you want to give it a glance.

Btw don't use that unroot link just yet. I need to confirm and read around before finding out if it's a viable method for our situation yet.

To be specific about "un-root".
You don't mean that you simply unrooted via SuperSU, do you? I assume you actually restored back to stock KitKat 10d, correct? And then took the OTA update straight to 21l, correct?
(And where can you tell the phone to check for updates again? or did you just wait for it to pop up in the notification area?)
Thanks

I unrooted back to stock kitkat 10d and took the OTA update to 21l.
To check for the OTA update, go to General --> About Phone --> Software Update --> Update now
I did try to update when rooted before restoring back to stock. It failed during installation with a message about suspicion of rooting.

Yup I just had to go through all this as well. Luckily it all went smoothly and my phone is back up to spec and loaded the way I use it daily. Took about 12 hours of deliberate effort though haha. I guess I never really knew how much stuff I had on the phone and how much time goes into editing settings and logging into everything. Anyways UltraSuper you're right. Had to use the link I posted above using LG Flash Tool and go back to kit kat then you can upgrade easily to 21l, LG one click root, use AutoRec to flash TWRP then do your first backup just in case something goes south but it's doubtful. My phone is stable as it was out of the box.
So what does this update offer? Is it worth the hassle of redoing everything?

I may do this tonight

To be honest I went through the whole process and I'll probably never use volte. I did it more just to have a clean start. I've been flashing like crazy and things were starting to get buggy. If things are running smooth for you I don't see the value in it unless you're planning on using volte.

VoLTE. That is the only notable thing about the update. A couple of pieces of bloat are in there as well. VoLTE is still new and not available everywhere yet and is only able to be used by a select few models of phones. Read up on it and decide. I personally do not see the need for the hassle atm so will wait until another day.
Finally the September Security Patch is available for the Style. Hope Nougat is on the way soon.
How many threads about a September security patch that is now 4 months old do we need? Not very impressive to get the September patch in January in my opinion. If anything, the release of a security patch for Marshmallow now doesn't give me much hope that we will see Nougat in the near future. I hope I'm wrong, but I feel like we are getting screwed.
Moto does security patches in 1/4 by 1/4 updates so roughly every three months. Also they are usually a 1/4 behind the most recent.

Motorola/Lenovo never committed to a release schedule.
If u have the captured ota pls share it here

False expectations that it was Nougat update, turns out to be just a security update for September month.
Moto updates slowly turning out to be a just a regular name any oem. No reliability for the software updates.

If you used root to make any change to the system partition (like Xposed, or even some simple things like the GSAM root battery_stats monitor), you cannot take an OTA successfully. The script checks to see if the system partition has been modified, or possibly just ever mounted R/W, and will refuse to continue and will result in an error in recovery like you see.
If the condition occurs like you are seeing, the only recourse is to restore to pure stock by flashing the factory images or restoring a pre-root TWRP backup.

The only way to do is flash stock.. else wipe cache partition and disable notification for Moto Update app. It wont bother you anymore.

True, I meant the only way to take the OTA update was to go back to stock... I neglected to mention that you can restore functionality to the device by just wiping caches.

You can do a minimal factory restore to satisfy the checks for the OTA. Just reflash the partitions most likely modified (recovery, system, boot) and the OTA should succeed. This assumes you're not running an alternate modem or haven't tinkered with any other partitions (besides the logo, that's fine to leave altered).
See ace's nice post @ https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...de-return-to-stock-relock-bootloader-t3489110, and just execute the lines from boot.img to system.img_sparsechunk.8 with the appropriate 6.0 (May) files.
Has anyone from India received this update? I download RETASIA DS verison of this ROM and flashed it, however I'm getting no wifi and can't find an alternate download link. And obviously now I can't flash an older verison and then update using OTA

Hi Guys,
I had recently updated my Oneplus One to 5.0.2 through OTA system updates. Now I wanted to update the same to 5.1.1 (i.e OS 12.1). But the problem is that I am not able to see the system updates anymore. It says the System is up to date whereas it's not the case in reality. It also asks to update cyanogen recovery, which I ignore. Attaching the snapshots of device for your reference.
The device is NOT rooted. I tried switch OFF and Switch ON multiple times. I also manually force stopped the System Update app, cleared it's cache, disabled it then enabled it. tried all combinations for the same. But no luck.
Can someone please advice what should I do to see the system updates as usual the way I was seeing earlier? Thanks for your help.

Thanks a lot for your reply. I actually have that app and it shows me the new update for 5.1.1 too. But the issue is when I first tried to update thru this app from kitkat to 05Q update, it somehow messed up my device. The zip installed was somehow corrupt due to which the installation had issues. Thats why I am actually worried to take that risk again.
That screwed up installation thru that app was the reason why I switched to OTA system updates which updated from 05Q to 5.0.2 lollypop. And now I cant see cyanogen system updates as it seem to have died.
Are you sure that app has no issues at all? Have you updated till 5.1.1 or 6.0.1 using that app? Please let me know.

Thanks a lot for your help man. But flashing and factory reset will wipe the mobile data I guess. I don't really want to do that. I need to keep the mobile data intact. Also, will it be advisable to jump from 5.0.2 to 6.0 directly? Or should I go incrementally only?

I can also see the full update option. But if I do full update directly, will it wipe all data from my device? I am not sure about it. Can you confirm whether your data was wiped when you updated from Kitkat to the latest marshmallow thru this App? That would help me decide. Or if anyone else can confirm the same, that would also help.
