Ok, i would like to monitor my phone. I dont know what the best way to do this. I would like to set up a console through my computer. If necessary, i can use another monitor via micro-usb to hdmi.
honestly, any feedback would be much appreciated

Do you mean monitor as in always see the "systems health", or actually see the devices whole output on a larger screen?

I know how to get it to a larger screen, jus wondering if i could monitor the health i guess from another screen. Also if somebody could link me to a place where i could use my computer to control my phone/tablet. Unfortulently i have a verizon htc one.

My compliments on the descriptive title and problem statement.
Here are a few suggestions:
1. What is the problem? "it don't work" is not much to go on
2. What have you tried? Again, a little information can help those trying to help you
3. Try searching - there are many threads on using cables for TV-out (especially in the accessories forum - that is a hint).
Did you enable TV out in the Sounds and Display menu?

I've never used the TV out capability of the Captivate but this link may help you.

I do know you have to enable TV out from the Display menu. Settings->Display->TV out, then you select TV out on or off.
Mike
Make sure it's enabled and if it doesn't work try switching the colors. Some cables you'll have to use red or white for video.

Try a different cable. Not all mini jack to composite cables work.

I just order a new cables but for iPod I read this works on captivate so I going to try.

Is there any way to get video-out working on the mesmerize and showcase or is the hardware just not there?
there is no hardware anywhere on the board that supports video out. if you had the time, money and knowledge to open it up, put the right connectors and hardware, ports, everything and then write drivers to make it work then it could be possible potentially.

I have a Samsung 6000 series LED tv and am able to play videos by simply connecting via usb cable.

I don't think it's possible, but at the same time I'm really not sure. I haven't worked much with it. Just doesn't seem possible.
Anyone know of a way to hook up an external camera, perhaps to the USB port? Maybe for video calling?

Why would you do that you have a front facing camera....smh... and no your phone can't do that

Actually I thought of a work around....smh...no faith. And not specifically the skyrocket. Gotta think outside the box to see the reason for a miniture camera that can video call.

How are you gonna build a driver to recognize an input device like that on top of making it recognize a video input over USB and then activate it based on app demand when apps don't natively support it so you would have to trick the phone into thinking its the ffcamera seems like an awful lot of work for something built in already IMO.

Like I said...think outside the box. Bring the camera out or make a daisey chain with a simple switch.

I thought of that after I posted it...then I was thinking it would be easier to extend the camera out and have it functional.

The easiest way to do it, I thing is to use the Eye-Fi connect SD card in you camera. ( http://goo.gl/dxXK ) and especially the Mobile X2.
There is an app for android. I never used it but I read a lot on it lately and it seems really interesting
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1468531
don't think this does what you want but there ya go
I was thinking about being able to do video chat with someone but be able to have the camera pinned to my jacket or something slllowing person I'm talking to see what I'm seeing. Extending the lens out is easiest thing I can think of. Will check out those links though.
Thanks guys

Hey any one know about an app that i could leave my phone somewhere and watch the camera from my tablet or someting similar??

Try ipwebcam. I used to use it on my phone to use as a webcam, and you can view the stream online which I don't see why you wouldn't be able to do with your tablet.
I'm sure there are other webcam apps out there also. I seem to remember using one that streamed the camera over wifi but I can't remember the name of it.
