I have no idea how to do this. When I connect the phone to my (ubuntu) pc, I can transfer files taken with the camera to the pc, but I want to put some wallpapers on the phone from my pc. The phone in MTP mode won't show up on my computer, but PTP mode is no problem. Do I need Nexus Media Importer (from the play store) to achieve this? Stumped.
You can use superbeam

Thanks, but I get "This app is incompatible with your device."
If you have a router, I suggest using Airdroid or WiFi File Transfer. Both can be downloaded from Google Play Store.
follow post #5 from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2537119
the part at the top of this post about "add to /etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules the following code"
and then see if your phone is detected in mtp mode
I use the Wifi router and ES File Explorer. I have LAN on right side and Cloud (google drive) on left side. If i would like copy something from pc, i get it to public folder and copy from here to my Moto G. Make scan for find the Pc in ES.
To enable file transfer between my phone and computer I used this method. I am running Ubuntu 12.04. However, the same guide would not work for my other laptop that runs Ubuntu 10.04. After attempting several different methodsI still can't get it to work. If anyone has been successful getting MTP support on Ubuntu 10.04 please post your method here, it would be greatly appreciated.
cheers :cyclops:

+1 for this. You just need to make sure you made the folder on the PC side shareable to your network.
This also allows easy copy and paste between any cloud folders/PC/tablet/phone/whatever you need without wires.

Hi, when I connect my PC to note3 can not I see the folders and files preceded by a dot (eg. .thumbnails.; .adobedigitaledition)
On the PC I checked the item displays hidden folders but nothing!
From the FileExplorer of Android on the other hand I can see all content

i have no solution for your problem but you could try out droid manager.
this windows tool should show every folder. it has many features, beside the filebrowser, that might be usefull for you too.
i just bought a pro license to unlock wifi. usb mode is free.
crashes sometimes on my pc, but its ok...
Did you disable 'hide file extension'?
Because technically everything after the dot is a file extension to Windows if there's no actual file extension.

I'd like to use it, mainly because I would only connect via USB, but it seems to be very complicated.
I can not even find the link to download the version 7!

Hide extensions for known file types is NOT checked.
Were you referring to this?

I was.
Can you see the generic Windows hidden folders? There's a bug that happens sometimes that makes hidden folders invisible even if the setting is set to "show".
Seems you're still unlocky when it comes to devices... Did you ever solve the mismatching files on your TF700?
You can see the hidden folders.
If I put the card into a reader files are visible.
If you want to see the hidden folders use Droid Manager.

I'm trying but it's hard!
I can not get it started.
Yes, it is a bit complicated first and the ui could be cleaner too.
I couldnt get it to work using n3 custom kernel. Some error about ls option, ..., showed up trying to use the filebrowser. I switched to civz kernel and now it works. For some operations you may need to install the adb insecure app by chainfire.
Hm, you have usb debugging enabled, dont you ?

I had contact with the developer, and he is preparing a update of the app. If you have ideas of your own, go to the thread and put them there. He is very flexible, and he listens to your suggestions.
thanks, good to know !
it really needs to improve a lot but its ok for now. i dont use it that much atm.
I DroidManager install thanks to the valuable advice of the author. Now I can see the folders with the point in front.
There is always the problem of the display of folders named with a dot in Windows
This has nothing to do with the Hidden FOlders setting in Windows OS.
It's to do with how MTP works.
It seems MTP is an abstraction of the actual file system unlike Mass Storage. So MTP (on the device) scans the disk for the list of folders and presents a list of folders and files that are normal only, not hidden. That's why you might not even see a new file show up in Windows if you manually added a file from the device side because MTP hasn't updated the list of available files.
MTP is just horrible, it fails with the transfer everytime when I move large files and I also tried leaving the screen on. Is there any other way to transfer files or at least to fix this?
You could try via smb over wifi (a.k.a. windows shared folders) and a file manager on the phone that can connect to it

Do you have WiFi at home? You could try to use a file manager app such as Es File Explorer to send all your files over wireless.

Not entirely true. You can push/pull files to/from the device with adb, while connected via USB.

What exactly did you try?
Set the usb connection as mtp?
enable usb debugging?
Tried another cable?
If you're just wanting to transfer files, you can use a wifi transfer app where you access the phone through a web browser once the wifi app is started on the phone.
If you got your phone locked with a swipe, pin or password, you need to unlock it first

Hi folks,
I just just downloaded MiXplorer. There is a major issuse where I need your help. I want to connect to a network share which is on my windows 10 workstation. My mobile device is connected to my Thinkstation via usb. The name of my pc is "Thinkstation", my share is called "Temp". I tried to connect using mixplorer with "add storage - custom..." ...then I got lost.
Does anybody knows help? Thanks for your assistance.
what is the MI explorer version that you're using.
If the version is V1-180407, you have an option to connect to the computer directly.
