[Q] How to install GingerBread 2.3.6 using Recovery and not ODIN - Samsung Infuse 4G

How to install Stock Rom (GingerBread 2.3.6) in Infuse4G (SGH i997) without ODIN, i mean, install it using recovery (I actually have Red CWM).
My USB Port sometimes, when it wants to, and when it works i can't properly install the rom with ODIN because it says: "can't mount /dbdata" or "can't mount /datadata". I guess with those errors i wouldn't be able to install it using the recovery neither.
Forgetting about the errors, is there a way to install that rom with recovery ? I can't find the zip file online.
Thanks for reading.

You should try flashing Odin with the "pit" file for your device so it can reset the partition table. Have you tried these: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1705260
There is a 2.3.6 rom in the Development section if you want to flash using CWM.

Can't install any custom roms any longer

I am lost.
I had FireFly 2.05 on my SGS (ATT US version) and was going to update to 2.1. I followed the procedure as I aways do; ODIN 1 click to stock rom, master clear, copy update.zip and rom file and reboot into recovery. This time however I get the following error
E:Can't symlink /system/xbin/su SYSTEM:bin/su
E:Failure at line 14
I checked some notes on this and found out that it might be a currupt file. So I re-downloaded FireFly2.1 again and transfered the file to the internal SD card. The outcome was the same.
Then I copied the original 2.05 version back which I know was fine and I still get the same error. Even after a full stock 1-click and master clear the above error will not go away.
Is my internal SD card messed up? Or am I missing something else?
It's running stock right now and all seems to work fine, but I cannot stand all the bloatware and other crap ATT puts on the phone and really want to try FireFly2.1.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Did you flash clockwork recovery
Did you root the phone after you flashed back to stock?

Agree with DaveyBB - sounds like you are not rooted.

You do not need to root on stock just flash clockwork with update zip
The update.zip i use is the current clockwork recovery.
I boot into the stock e2 recovery, then apply cw recovery and update the rom. Never had to root stock before when i update via cw recovery.
I will try to root stock first this time and then apply rom via recovery.
Thx

To install clockwork select reinstall packages twice
The issue is not with cw recovery. I am already in it, but the error that i get is after i click "yes apply this zip"... The script starts to format the system, data, datadata, etc. And then this error shows up after files ate copied

Have you tried re download of rom package?
My only guess is that clockwork and the rom are not working well. I would try downloading a different clockwork

Done that too.
So just to reiterate...
I had FireFly2.05 running and many other cooked Android 2.1 and 2.2 roms before this. I follow the instrution of the cooks to the 't' on how to update to the newest rom and never had any issue.
This time I downloaded FireFly2.1 and also Phoenix4.5 from the respective cooks and followed the instructions as usual. The issues does not show up until the 'copy files' part of the script is running (formating of the filesystem already passed).
All I can imagine are these:
1) The transfer from the PC to the Phone is corrupt (ruled out the download from the net as even the existing FireFly2.05 rom no longer loads)
2) The internal SD card is messes up
3) There is some configuration change I am not aware off that prevents the install of the cooked rom.
Maybe try to reformat sd through clockwork
Problem solved, kind of.
My desktop PC, which I always use to transfer the files is somehow responsible for the error I get in CWM recovery. I ended up using my laptop to transfer the ROM to the phone and it worked again.
Something is messing up the USB transfer? That seems very odd but I am glad it's not the phone that caused the issue.
If I find out what the issue is with my Desktop I will post again just in case this rather rare issue might happen to someone else.

One Question:
What method are you using to enter recovery method when you attempt to flash the rom? And what color is your recovery menu (should be green)?
(Don't go into recovery via rom manager. Try entering recovery via your advanced power menu)

I don't think he's getting into Clockwork via ROM Manager, as he's said multiple times he's using the CWM update.zip; reinstalling packages in 2e recovery to get to CWM.
He's also said he doesn't believe this to be an issue with Clockwork (and I don't either). And I'm also pretty sure we're not dealing with newbie mistakes of Android Recovery vs. Clockwork Recovery.
any chance you're leaving your usb plugged into your cappy while you're trying to flash it?

custom rom doesnt flash on samsung vibrant

i have samsung vibrant with 2.2 stock rom updated via kies. after update i rooted it with superoneclick. and i got superuser app on. then i downloaded rom manager and installed clockwork recovery, in rom manager it says what version is installed and everything but everytime i go to recover it shows me stock samsung recovery mod. so clockwork isn't actually installed. and when i try to flash custom rom via rom manager it goes to samsung recovery mod does somethings and just reboots to normal rom that im running. can anyone tell me what's missing or what am i doing wrong?
Same here
I'm having the same issue. I have SU in apps and Rom Manager has SU permissions. Thanks in advance for any helpful advice.
found a fix. lemme know if you need any help. the step with 3e whatever was weird but just follow the link and download. after doing the shell thing in superuser (don't reboot) run the 3e thing you just downloaded... should be a dos type user interface.

Can't go back to stock Samsung Vibrant ROM!!
“I'm in a similar situation... I've been trying to go back to stock ROM by flashing several new stock kernel images, but i need to find a fool proof way to flash back to stock. The newer stock kernel images are not allowing me to mount the necessary files - I'm not able to find the older stock kernel images without any of the mounting issues.
"E: Can't mount/dev/block/ST110
(Invalid Argument)"
"E: copy_dbdata_media: Can't mount DBDATA: copy default media content failed."
Any one has an answer/solution to this? THANKS”
Did you try installing busybox.. then try installing amon-ra's recovery in rom manager or at boot screen.. the screen where you can select fastboot or recovery and stuff

I have been using Odin 1.7 to flash the stock images. None of the newer stock kernel images have been working for us, hitting us with mounting issues. Now we cannot even get past the standard bootloader and do not have the luxury of a custom recovery. We need an old but reliable stock kernel without mounting issues so we can at least get past the bootloader.

[Q] Problems with ClockWork Samsung Infuse

I tried putting clockwork recovery onto my Samsung Infuse. I Installed it through a ROM Manager and now everytime i go into the ROM manager and select it to boot into recovery it boots into android system recovery. I cannot get to the Modified Recovery needed to install a cutom ROM.
What do i need to do to get CWM to work?
Flash the community kernel via ODIN

Option 1:
1.-Download Sgs Kernel installer
2.- Download a Kernel with modified cwm included ( here one choice: http://www.multiupload.com/1E3AWIQYAA <--If you are on Froyo;
http://www.multiupload.com/6ZVYU3F106<-- If you are on Gingerbread) The links ARE NOT mine are gtgx.
3.-Put the kernel in your sd card.
4.-Open sgs kernel flasher and select the kernel.
It will reboot and convert your data to ext4 and also give you modified red cmw ready to install custom roms. It will take about 5 minutes be patient.
Option 2:
1.- Download the Defuse 1.5 one click kernel from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331381 (link NOT mine)
2.- Put your phone into download mode
3.- Run the file you downloaded it will do the work for you.
Find Odin preset with 3e and root. Follow directions and run odin properly with phone in download mode (explained in odin post). After that you will be rooted with modded 3e recovery. Then you can download rom manager when the phone reboots and flash for galaxy i9000, reboot into recovery and reinstall packages. You should be able to reinstall packages now since odin set up your recovery. It sounds like you aren't able to put the modded recovery in the system/bin folder; same thing happened to me. I had root, but could not modify the recovery file in system/bin. Odin is a charm, if I had the money I would donate to the guy who made it, unfortunately I don't at the moment. Odin says phone should show as com## yet mine showed as com0 and still worked. Probably depends on which USB port you use. Odin takes about 10 minutes to flash your phone but it will be worth it when you are done. I was skeptical because of the steps but it is very easy, once you get your phone into download mode its a breeze. PLEASE HAVE A FULL CHARGE WHEN YOU DO ANY FLASHING. If your phone dies you can have serious problems during the flash.
thank you all, I am going to try these once I get my internet restored.... this is kinda agony since my t1 line died....

Just an update, Forced it to work with SGS kernel, it put up a huge fight tho... after CWM was installed i got GingerReal 2.3.5 on there. I iz happeh

CWM won't install..

Ok, my infuse is rooted and have done GTG, odin back to stock (at different times when CWM wouldn't install)...with root and without. I have successfully rooted and had superuser install with su# updated.
Have download CWM from the market and flashed the recovery with no luck. Download the file from XDA links and put on root of sd card, with renamed "update.zip", entered 3e recovery and reinstall packages...with the following error:
E:Failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted
Yes I have tried to download it again from different source in case of bad download...
Are their any other ways to install CWM......? at a lose cause my other Infuse worked on the first try of everything....
Sorry forgot to add the (Q) didn't see it....

if you get no where,
I would do a factory reset when you are running the stock ROM under /settings/privacy/reset
Then I would try the heimdall package adam outler made.

What worked for me after Odin to stock was using SGS to flash the voodoo community kernel from froyo after that it allowed red CWM to work flawlessly and then I could flash ROMs again without issue.
Just a follow up to who ever would run into my problem:
I did return to stock using Odin and could never get CWM to flash using the app from market nor putting it on the root of the SD card. I tried GTG back to stock...with no luck getting CWM either....nor could I get Heimdall to work.
So I was able to use SGS kernel flash from the market to flash the "community kernel v8"... and get CWM.....so I don't why nothing else but the SGS flasher worked.....but I got it!!
Thanks for all the input and help fellows!
Wookspy important having the same problem i just got my infuse today i rooted and 3e recovery is installed i just keep getting the verification error when installing packages all you did was flash the kernel and it worked ?
Sorry i keep getting the errors when reinstalling packages for cwm any help would be much appreciated

[Q] P6800 ROM Questions

Recently I hard-bricked my Tab whilst installing a Rom on it (Brick Bug). Now I have a replacement, and it's about time I replaced the HC with something else.
I plan to use the 'Singha ROM ICS P6800DXLP7' ROM and ' Dedraks' GT-P6800' kernel. I'm guessing installation for both is via CWM, but that is how I bricked my tab last time. How can I work around this as to not brick it again? Odin? Which do I install first? Any guidance would really be appreciated!
Thanks
Which cwm you using that cause it to brick?
Share some detail procedure...wipe on stock rom, custom rom, kernel...etc which end with brick?
For now I believe safe atm..
- From stock ICS
- Root with this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1849235
- Install cwm using Mobile Odin
- Boot to cwm recovery
- Flash custom rom and custom kernel
- Reboot recovery NOT reboot system.
- Full wipe and fix permission
- Reboot system to home screen
That what I always do
Here's what works for me
first, d/l CWM to SD card.
then power down.
reboot into download mode ,PC Odin is my install of choice for the roms...
then power down again after the new rom installs and re-boots
re-boot into recovery and choose install zip from SD and choose CWM (which is a temporary install)
dont wipe anything, just choose to install zip and then choose your new kernel.
After kernel (a safe one) installs, then re-boot system.
Ive never bricked this tab or my GN7000 Note
good luck
correct me if im wrong, but as long as you do not factory reset in stock ics recovery you are okay. Right?
Some Note GT 7000 guys reported that they bricked their phablets by copping large files (being on ICS). If this doesn't affect our P6800s, then you are not wrong.
I had installed LQ2 without wiping anything. But had many Screen Offs and Shut Downs, so I considered to risk the clean install.
Did it with Mobile Odin Pro, but first
Ensured that I already have CWM 6.0.0.1
Flashed Dedraks Kernel.
In Mobile Odin chosen "open file..." and then the particular md5 file,
BUT EXCLUDED:
1. Kernel
2. Recovery
Then I selected "wipe" and "clean", crossed my fingers and everything went OK.
Not quite everything, because I lost root, although I am pretty sure that I did not unselect "everroot'.
It was not a big issue. Installed again "root.zip" via CWM recovery.
Its about a week since then and I have nothing to complain.
...
Thanks for the responses guys.
Does this sound safe?:
Flash LQ2 via PC Odin
Root from universal recovery
Flash CWM 6.0.11 via PC Odin
Flash Dedraks Kernel via CWM
Then root again if needed.
Thanks
