[Q] Kindle Fire HD7 11.3.1 Rooted. Now what? - General Questions and Answers

I am a complete and total noob for all things Android. I didn't even know what "rooting" was until last week when I got a Fire HD7 and hated the UI and started Googling how to change it.
I found this forum through said Google search and successfully rooted my Kindle Fire HD7 (11.3.1) and a BIG thank you to those who put in the work to make it SO easy. Now I'm ready to modify but have NO idea what's next. I tried searching the forum for posts about what to do but didn't come up with anything that would fit the HD7. So can anyone steer me in the right direction? I can (and do) read and follow directions quite well so even past posts if there are any would be a huge help. What do I need to do to change the UI, modify things like screen savers/back grounds, put Jelly Bean or something on it, etc...
Thanks in advance for your guidance. :good:

[Q] New to Rooting

Hello,
I apologize if this is a redundant post but I am becoming increasingly confused as I try and figure out what I'm doing.
I just recently switched from a two year old blackberry to the Inspire 4G. I love the phone and recently had surgery so I am stuck in a chair for a while which is forcing me to find fun things to do with my phone.
I have done some research on rooting the phone but there is just so much information out there and none of it seems to be all that consistant to me. I like the way the phone runs out of the box so I hate to go flashing the ROM and messing with what isn't broken. I would just like someone to clarify what all of this is about so here are my questions...
What is rooting and what are the advantages of it(besides removing bloatware)? What cool things have you done with rooting?
Is there any way to root the phone in order to remove the bloatware and then unroot it easily so my warrenty does not become void?
In other words, I would like to temporaraly root my phone in order to remove the bloatware. Then once this is done I would like it to go back to the way it was before the root with the exception of the bloatware being there.
Is what I want to do possible? Is it easy, and what would be the easiest way to accomplish this? If its not possible what should I do and how should I do it?
I hope this isn't too much, and if I am asking in the wrong place please direct me to the correct place to ask this sort of question. Thanks for all your help in advance!
-Mike
Belongs in General. Read there. Search Google "advantage of rooting my phone "

I was in your spot a couple weeks ago, but I had come from a jailbroken iphone. All I can say is, there aren't *many* great walkthroughs, so it took me a good day or two of just looking around XDA to finally feel comfortable. If you don't feel comfortable, don't do it, but it takes a little research the first time.
That said, I'm very happy I rooted my phone, and this site has pretty much been my only resource.

Want to root and have questions

Hi everyone,
I am really tired of waiting for SD Card support and USB support on my Xoom, so I have decided to take matters into my own hands. First let me say, I love my XOOM, but I am by nature an inpatient person. My wife would say that of course is NOT my only character flaw. LOL! That said, I purchased my XOOM on launch day and have been waiting and waiting for the 4G upgrade and the SD Card slot to become functional. I have now grown tired of the wait and would like to root in order to get the SD Card functional, USB support, overclocking etc. This is my first Android device, although I have since switched my phone from a Windows Mobile device to a Thunderbolt. I have no experience rooting, but I am comfortable with tech and computers, so now I would like to embark down that road. However, I just did the 3.1 update over the weekend and was reading about a way to flash 3.1 on a rooted device without losing your root. This is what I would like to do, but after posting a similar thread in the Motorola Xoom Forums, the suggestion was made that I post these questions here. There was some debate as to whether it was possible to root my device right now since I already did the 3.1 update and the feeling was that I might have to wait until a rotting solution for 3.1 was available. I am not quite sure if this is the cased, so I was hoping for some direction from the experts here.
Can you guys point me in the direction of a link on the net that will explain rooting and how to do it and let me know if I can root my 3.1 Xoom? YouTube video would be ideal for instruction, but I would like to read up on the basics and the nomenclature so I understand the terms that are thrown around pertaining to rooting. I also would like recommendations of what kernal you all recommend and what other apps I will need, such as, Titanium Backup, Clockwork Recovery, etc. in order to achieve these things.
Thanks a Ton! I am very excited to join the rooting community.
Steve
Hey mate, the "ROOTED" community not rooting first off lol. Moving on tho. Check this link out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89lQpJJ7zBw . Rooting a device is typically pretty simple and easy. The fact that u want to learn is ofcourse greatly appreciated on a site like this as those that just want it handed to them dont tend to get far. If u need additional help feel free to pm me. I dont have a xoom but the vid i linked seems pretty straight forward. I have a MT4G

How to really get started

Okay this may be redundant but let me try. I'm new to this site and new to the whole androids modding.I was thinking of buying the star x26i or the star note i9220 dpad. I'm really not sure where to start once I get phone. If I can't get the direction I think I can figure out the rest or at least search to get info. Any help will be appreciated.
Get started as in what exactly? Are you talking about rooting and custom roms?

as I see you are interested in ROM development then here is a best resource on this site to help you on this subject

I know this is a modding community so the majority of answers are just going to say root root root! But in all honesty, if you are brand new to Android, get used to stock for a bit before you jump into modification. Spend your time reading about your specific device while you play with it and if people are happy with their devices rooted and the process isn't too intensive for you, then give it a shot.

Thanks for all the input. I was trying to be sure if there was a step by step process on what to do.I am fairly new to android phones and want to learn the ins and outs. I'm searching for a new phone now and it seems like the ones I like need something to be done to them before I can use them. So I was trying to be sure of the process before I screwed something up. I like the suggestion of learning the phone 1st which will probably lead me to a name brand phone.I'm currently with boost mobile so my options are limited. Once again thanks for the info.
1. Root
*unlock bootloder* optional
2. remove bloatware
3. read about custom roms
4. go crazy modding
Enjoy stock for a while, Oh and heres a tip, On the process of rooting, You can easily brick your phone.
Meaning Of Brick - It will no longer boot up; You have to replace it.
Well, actually I'm just looking
I googled "Rooted phone, what next?" and got several helpful sites and threads. Most of which lead back to XDA. Although I had a fairly clear goal in mind; I wanted ICS.

I got the x26i and I rooted it with Bin4ry it worked really well don't forget to install drivers.
Leave a thumbs up if I helped you.

[Q] Help with root on droid ultra

I searched and read all jcase's stuff for rooting my new droid ultra but i am very new to all of it. Is there somewhere or someone who has step by step instructions for all of it from beginning to end. I cant figure out the command prompt, etc. I really want to root my phone and i cannot get the stuff started. I know this is like really a noob thing so i am apologizing now. I downloaded everything (i think) and hope to get some help. Please help. Thanks.
This helped me http://waynekent.com/page18.html
it should be the same except different roms
Thanks
Thanks for the link to the page, but the links on the page you sent are not working. I can download all the parts he has on the page which are the tools needed to root, but it still doesn't point me in the direction of "Start here, do this step 1, etc., etc.,
I thought I would be able to root the phone no problem but it seems much harder than it looks lol.
I guess I am just so noob that I need someone to hold my hand.
If anyone out there knows of a step by step from the very beginning I would greatly appreciate it.

Otherwise do some Google searching and a bunch of reading about setting up and using ADB. I know this method is a far cry from the one click methods we're used to. It can be quite difficult and, at times, time consuming. Its not rocket science though. With some patience and reading you can get through it. Also it may be more productive for you to ask something more specific...ie
"I did X...expecting Y....but Z happened. What did I do wrong?"
I'm really not trying to be a [email protected] or anything. Just trying to point you in the right direction.

It works. Download the zip archive and there is another guide in it. I have never rooted too, my first android, and with general knowledge of what I am doing I was able to do it. Good luck.
Already been said but yeah man rooting is going to be a little hands on these days. Kent's zips you download are extremely clear though and has everything needed to root. Other then that, watch a BUNCH of videos and read all that you can lol

yea man, im still trying to figure out the right steps I need to take. ive been putting off running the 4.4 update because...I just cant get rockmymoto, slp, pwnmoto or bootstrap figured out on where to start yet.
If you take the 4.4 update, you won't be able to root in the future.
I don't understand why people are so afraid of following some simple technical directions. When I was a kid, all phones had dials (not to mention cords!) and the first Betamax VCR came out when I was in college.

How to root?

Hey everyone. I just got this note pro today from Amazon. I've read about a lot of functionality you can get from rooting your device. The thing is I have no clue how to root a device. I've looked around the internet and to be quite honest I'm still not quite sure how to properly root the device. I was hoping someone could maybe point out or give me step by step instructions on how to root a device. Including making backups and the programs needed. I'm totally a noob in this and quite terrified of destroying a 685.00 dollar device. Thanks in advance to anyone willing to take the time out. The reason I'm rooting is because I want to get better battery life and be able to run any app in multiview mode. (Student who wants to go multiview with amazon ebooks and a note taking app)

I'm not sure which Internet your using.... you must not be looking very hard because your answer is in this very forum. In fact , there is a great big thread about it a few lines down. If after reading said thread you still have a question, I suggest asking IN that thread.
Every one here loves to help out, but you gotta put in at least a TINY bit of effort dude.
