[Q] Samsung Galaxt Tab 2 7.0 P3110 - red X and no USB connection - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have searched and searched and not found an answer, please help!
My son's SGT2 7.0 does not connect to any computer when plugging in via USB. The computer doesn't even acknowledge that a device has been attached. I have installed the samsung drivers, tried Kies, enabled developer options and checked the USB debug box, but all to no avail.
The device is not rooted.
Also, it has the dreaded "red cross" when charging the battery. Is there a way to get rid of this short of sending it back to Samsung?
Anyone any solution for these issues? Would be most grateful.
Thanks

I had this same problem a few weeks back. I bought a new USB cord and the problem stopped. Somewhere the cord went bad, it wouldn't even charge unless the tab was powered off.

STILL OPEN TO ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS!

Well the new cable sorted out the usb connection problem, and indeed the red X issue too. Samsung brand and less than £3. Happy days

usb connection with pc suddenly dead

Hello suddenly my nexus s stopped connecting with data with the pc it only charges, tried with 3 diffrent computers with diffrent os , no menu popping on nexus and nothing connected on the computer(like i didnt connect anything), i removed the battery left it for some time installed stock rom still nothing. It was acting normally for a second and the other it stopped any help appreciated!
Are you sure you're using the cable that came with the phone? I have an LG Wink featurephone here that uses the same connector at the phone end -- its cable will charge my Nexus S (using the computer, obviously, but also when used with either the LG or Samsung charger) but no USB connection happens when I use it. Only the cable that came with my Nexus S provides a USB connection when I connect to the computer. I guess there are pinout differences between the two cables.
If you're sure you're using the right cable, I would guess that it's gone bad if it doesn't work on any computer. You can buy an (overpriced) replacement from Samsung or maybe a cheaper one on eBay or at a retail store. If the latter, be sure the seller lists it as compatible with the Nexus S.
it happened with the original cable ppfff i dont know...
same problem

Hi
I have the same problem
I have no idea what the problem could be.
We are not alone with this problem: code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=13553
Now installed stock rom as well but still the same problem.
If i starting the NS in the bootloader mode the phone is not recognized by the computer.
It would be great, if someone knows a solution!

I've been trying to get help with this for weeks. No one is even responding to my posts. I thought it was something OBSURDLY simple, such that people didn't even want to waste their time responding to me.
Seeing same problem, No connetion via USB
Posted problem in General,, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1104245

Curious do any of you have the Google Music Beta?? (maybe a over zealous rights thing?)

My phone charges just fine. And my USB connectivity was fine until I manually installed 2.3.4.
~I had usb connection problems after upgrade to 2.3.4 a bit different but I managed to get the USB back by formatting the SD card.

I was on 2.3.3 when this happened, i tried to flash 2.3.4 then and again it didnt work but the strange thing is that when i was moving the mini usb the first times up and down it was shown for a moment as a broken usb device. Then this stopped and was not shown at all on the computer and finally the phone charged super slow when connected to electricity
Beginning to believe that it is a physical prob with USB connector on phone. It seems to start/stop charging when wiggling usb on phone but no mounting. Doe anyone know best way to resolve , T-mobile but bought from Best Buy? so to Best Buy? FOR SUPPORT /EXCHANGE? suggestions?
I've seen loose connections before. My suggestion ain't the cheapest but the plug, on the cable end, shouldn't wiggle. I went to a corporate sprint store, the ones that actually have working display phones, and got their usb to micro usb data cable. The thing with that cable is when you plug it in the phone side, it goes into the jack firmly. You can almost feel the little locking tabs click into place. There should be no play or wiggle with that cable as long as there's no damage or abuse with the jack on the phone. IMO, that's a good data cable. It's never given me problems before.
Also, sometimes the cable is only wired for charging. A true data cable will be wired correctly and be able to both charge and transfer data. Usually the cables that come with the phone are crap quality. I don't know if my suggestion will help but it won't hurt to have a good cable for data transfer and flashing. The last thing you want is a flaky connection from a cheap cable when you're flashing roms. Russian roulette with bricking a phone in a worse case situation.
Did you try reboot the computer and the phone? How about a different usb port? How about unplug any other usb device in case it's conflicting for some unknown reason? It sounds like so many people with windows 7 are having problems. Usually always happens with a new os that's released. Xp, for flashing devices and programming different hardware devices, has never given of a problem. I have a small partition with xp on it just for that purpose only.
off to Samsung for repair for me...
After time on phone with them and a factory reset belief is that the usb connector is defective. BTW Best Buy just hands off to Samsung 1-800 #
So Back to a barely functional G-1 for a while, glad I could find it!
So is Samsung or the carriers replacing or fixing units?
My USB data died shortly after 2.3.4 ota update.
Wifi FTP is fine for data transfer but I want USB debug to work...
Shame on google and Samsung, this bug has been around for months.
no shame on anyone...
I went through a factory reset with Samsung on phone that isolated the problem to what is apparently a loose usb connector, nothing to do with software... only hassle is sending it in for repair, as` mentioned problem needs to be dealt with Samsung customer service (not carrier or Best Buy), they were fine on phone...

Cable USB/CHARGE not working

You mean that your USB cable will charge your tab, but it will not connect to the PC?

[Q] MotoG LTE won't charge with USB cable; Bug or Defective phone?

So I just received my MotoG LTE yesterday, and while at work, needed to charge it up. I plug a USB cable between the PC and phone, and the PC recognizes the phone, and I even setup USB tethering and try out the data connection. All's well as far as that's concerned.
I notice that the battery icon in the notification bar has a lightening bolt in it, but the battery is not charging (says Not Charging in the Battery section in Settings). I try another USB cable with the same results. I try it on another PC, same results. Using an AC powered adapter allows the battery to start charging, but won't charge from the PC.
I contact Motorola's online chat to inquire about the situation, and they ask me to go into the Developer Options section (which many of you know is hidden initially on this OS). I get into Developer Options and enable USB Debugging. BOOM! Charging via the USB cable from PC is now working!
I inform the chat rep that the phone is now charging, and mention that this bug needs to be fixed. She proceeds to tell me that it's not a bug, and that my phone is defective and I should return it.
My opinion is that this IS a bug, and another phone will exhibit the same issue. Anybody else experience this same USB charging issue?
I'll reply to/update my own thread.....
I just got off the phone with Motorola's support. Apparently the online rep I chatted with earlier didn't know squat. This charging issue is a known issue and slated to be fixed in the next OS release. As I guessed, my phone is not defective, and a replacement unit would behave the same.
So for those that are having trouble charging the phone via a PC, just enable USB Debugging mode and it will start charging.

Ah I see seems like a software issue to me if it was a hardware problem your phone would not charge at all either on ac or USB as it is a charging/data port on the phone.

Fast Charge and Data Connection Over Cable Doesn't Work Even After USB Port Replaced

I'm all out of ideas on how to get this working. At some point, I lost the ability to fast charge. At the same time, I lost the ability to get a data connection when plugging the cable into the PC that had previously worked. When you plug it into the PC, you get the error "USB Device Not Recognized". In the Device Manager it's got the yellow exclamation mark next to it where it's listed as "Device Descriptor Request Failed" - "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
A request for the USB device descriptor failed."
Things I've tried:
Made sure fast charge was enabled in settings. Tried cycling it on and off.
Tried different cables, including the OEM Samsung Galaxy S6 one.
Downloaded and installed Samsung Smart Switch
Reinstalled Drivers
Tried different chargers making sure the cable was plugged in snugly.
Tried different wall plugs
Tried different PC(exact same error)
Turned USB debugging on and off.
Changed how USB behaves on connection (switching from charging mode to media mode).
Purchased replacement I/O board and installed it
Purchased replacement battery and installed
Did a factory reset
Any suggestions?
Sure it's the charger not the cable ?

Sometimes i wonder if people read the post xD, But i think you should get a replacement device under the warranty. It is probably a manufacturer fault.

Sadly, it's out of warranty. That's why I was trying to get it fixed myself. I figured there was nothing I could do at this point, but I was just hoping I missed something obvious.

BUMPING thread rather than making a new one. I just recently replace daughter board and battery as well, and STILL no fast charging capabilities. Have tried all of my 6 different branded USB cables and 5 different wall adapters. No luck.
Did OP ever find a solution? Anybody else have help for me?
EDIT: Just realized I've been a member since '10 and this is my first post...
Lurk much?
Any solution yet? I have same problem and I can't fix it no matter what I do..
check the cable

Does the Verizon S6 support USB OTG?

Online I've seen people using a USB OTG cable on the Samsung Galaxy S6 but when I try to do so on a Verizon model it does not respond to keyboard or mouse input.
Has anyone else tried to use USB OTG?
I used my OTG cable to hook my verizon s6 to my external hard drive last week. Everything worked fine. Check your language and input setting maybe?
Well the problem is that there is no response at all. For example when I connect the mouse to another phone via the cable the mouse light turns on, connecting it to the S6 does nothing.
Are you on 6.0.1 as well?
I am currently on 6.0.1. The other thing to check would be the usb options in the notification area when you plug it in, if that shows up.
That's what I'm hoping for as well but nothing shows up, very odd.
Have you tried using your OTG cable on another device? Or using another peripheral? Do you plug in your device to charge it? I'm just trying to think of all the possible things that could be awry.
Well so it worked fine on a Moto G and X and I had only tried a keyboard and a mouse. I've now tried a USB stick and it suddenly works on my Galaxy S6 as well. Keyboard and mouse now suddenly work as wel... I'm starting to think it must have been a loose connection due to my phone case or something cus I can not think of any other explanation as to why it suddenly started working. Regardless, thanks for your help!
