Attached images from BBS and andriod battery stats, how to fix/prevent this ?
Doesn't look so bad. Have you googled android.gms
That process is the generic name for all Google Play Services. Could be any number of reasons why it is doing that from location services to a sensor continuously getting polled.
Go into BBS and check the exact name of the wakelock.

From the Alarms section (the one you posted) click on the "com.google.android.gms" line.
This should bring up another window with the actual name of the wakelocks and how many times each one occurred.

GCM is Google Cloud Messaging. But honestly that's all I've got. I've never even heard of the service. It is some kind of push service that requires a server and configuration of the phone. No clue why your phone is trying to connect to a server though unless you set it up.

What rom are you using? I've been having the same problem in my missus' phone running cm11

Nearly similar here
I've tried to disable the Location Service at all but still the phone remains on "Remain Active" without never rest, anyway it's very strange because some days ago I've never had of this problem, could be a PA gapp issue or ROM?

Solved!
Try to update Google Play Service from this link, reboot and fully recharge.

Good that yo solved it, mine is still recurring..
Options:
1. Assuming data and wifi are already off, try turning of the sync too. Turn off Location reporting, open google maps, log out your google account there. If your problem still occurs, check other options.
2. Other option if you have donate version of greenify, just greenify it.
3. Other option is using android tuner, you can disable gcm manually, more info on link

So, I realized that my SABnzbd downloads had slowed down substantially, and when I looked into the reason, it seems my phone is using about 3MB of bandwidth while sitting and doing nothing.
I uninstalled a few apps I thought might be responsible, and restarted the phone. I've not touched it since it booted up, and my router shows me that I'm currently using 375KB/s on this phone.
I have no idea what could be doing this, but it seriously concerns me.
I'm running Purity ROM, and will soon factory reset and try a different ROM, but thought I would ask about this before I do anything else.
Ideas/thoughts?
Go into WiFi advanced settings and turn off scanning. You could also turn WiFi off when screen is off. I just turned off scanning. PS it helps save power while idle

Even if the phone wifi is 'scanning' for a signal (it's actually connected, so it's not scanning for anything), it should not be actively downloading at almost 375 KB/s. It should not be downloading anything.
What else could it be?

Whenever the phone is on, for the last few days. I suspect it's an app causing it, but I can't find any indication of which one. I think I'm going to wipe and install fresh, and probably try another ROM for a while. I'll install apps one at a time until/if the situation happens again.
There are apps to check data usage of each app. Can't name one. Never needed them. I always just accepted its the NSA and I try to stay away from my phone while in ze nude, as our German friends would put it.

Install this to find out what app is causing it. I'm betting one of the google apps. Play services loves to use data for no reason.

Thanks. That's telling me "Downloads" has used 66MB since being installed 4 minutes ago.
I'm not intentionally downloading anything, and when I checked the Play store, it doesn't seem to be downloading anything either. When I checked the downloads folder, there is one jpg (623KB) and the Amazon app store apk (4.99MB), and both have been there for weeks.
There is nothing else in this folder, nor any other indication of what is causing "Downloads" to be downloading. In the 2 minutes it's taken to write this, the amount has risen to 124MB, which is 98.1% of what's been dowloaded.
Very weird to me.
So the app is using DL's. DL's doesn't do anything by itself that I've ever seen. Try force stopping it then freezing it. That might make the app show up that's causing the issue. Might being the key word here. Weird indeed.

[Q] Wifi & network location unavailable after switching location off & on again
Hi there,
I found this strange but reproduceable bug on my N5's location services and was wondering if it's the same for you.
Turn off location via settings or quick settings
Turn it back on
You'll be asked to accept Google location terms
Switch to battery saving mode (only wifi & network, no GPS)
After these steps, my N5 cannot find it's location via Wifi & mobile network anymore. In Maps it might still show the blue dot but moving around it won't update. When using any other app which will try to get a fresh location it's a no go. Like Google+, try and make a post with location, no joy.
I have to reboot to get it working again.
Did you agree to those Google terms? If not that's the reason...

You're right, mine also won't find my position without GPS. However a reboot fixes it for me.
Somewhat glad to see others having this bug too. Indeed a reboot fixes it right up so it's not a huge deal.
Under normal circumstances I would't change this setting ever, but when I just got my N5 I wanted to test the GPS only feature. After turning it back to Battery saver I noticed and started investigating what caused it.
Thanks for testing mate!

I have the problem on my 16 GB black nexus 5 with stock Rom and no root. I tested with dalvik and art but the problem exist. I have found 3 solutions:
1- reboot phone (temporary solution)
2- stop Google Play Services (temporary solution)
3- uninstall updates of Google Play Services use with stock/no update (permanent solution)
one more thing; when I can't get a location fix with network/wireless GPS mode on Google Maps or any other application, I can see a circle on " Yandex Navigation" that shows my location.
but more interesting thing is I can see a circle that shows my location on Yandex Navigation when my GPS is completely off.
I think this problem is about Google Play Services or Google Location Services. I hope someone find a solution.

Thanks for your (rigorous :good tests.
Reboot was the one I used to fix it, didn't know about the others you found.
In a strange way glad to see it's a software bug, which means it's fixable. I guess the friend I mentioned has not updated the Play services ever, that would explain why he is not affected.
happens to me as well on a Nexus 7 (2013). I've found that battery drains faster even when in deep sleep
Me and my colleague also have this issue...
Completely wiped and factory reset to stock, same prob.
Reboot solves it until you turn location services off and on again, or go from "device only" mode to "battery saving".
A quicker way then reboot (reboot actually does the same as this step) is go to settings, apps, running, Google Services (you might have 2), there STOP the GoogleLocationService (it will stop and reload the service)
Location should work again in battery saving mode...
Thanks for that one Foggy79!
Reboot or restarting the google play services takes much longer (especially when you have to disable ADM first) then your trick of only stopping the only location service.

I just reproduced the issue on an other colleague's N5, that makes 3 ppl here in the office, can't be coincidence.
If the GoogleLocationService could restart automatically when you turn on "Location" and agree the terms, that would be great...

It appears the issue is fixed for me.
I have Google Play services 4.3.24 so it might be fixed behind our backs.
Now when you turn the location off and on again, the GoogleLocationService is automaticly restarted also
Fixed for me as well with the new Google Play Services!
The new version now indeed restarts the LocationService again.
I'm glad Google also reads XDA (j/k)
Now if they can get GoogleLocationsManager and NlpLocationsReciever to stop running when Locations Services are turned off completely, that'd be great.

I thought I'd start this thread to raise awareness and stop some confusion. It looks like there is a bug in Android Lollipop where under certain circumstances, the battery chart/graph always shows WiFi was on even though it was switched off. This is with "scanning always available" set to OFF of course.
A google code bug has been submitted for this: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=81501&colspec=ID Type Status Owner Summary Stars
What I've found reproduces the problem:
1) Make sure "WiFi scanning always available" is OFF.
2) Connect to a WiFi access point.
3) Physically leave that area of the access point so that the WiFi disconnects because you've gone out of range.
4) Disable WiFi from the settings.
5) Observe the battery chart will continue to show WiFi on, forever, until you re-enable WiFi, reconnect to another WiFi access point, and then disable WiFi.
This hasn't been fixed in 5.1 :'(
No issue here and I manage my WiFi manually. So my question is: do you manually manage your WiFi or do you use an app or a rom feature based on profiles, hours,...?

Yeup it's a visual glitch with the battery graph. As OP said it only happens if you disable the WiFi once leaving the WiFi network area, if you disable it while still connected it shows as off properly in the graph.
Any fix has been found for this bug? Because I'm on Chroma 5.1.1 and this still occurs.

Go into settings and then Data and tap more in the upper right hand corner and restrict the background data on apps that you don't use.. I pretty much have everything restricted because when I open it the data will work fine in the foreground just not in the background after it's closed. Saves me a lot of data!

Yes they do... What model phone do you have? Verizon? Because when I updated to MM 6.0 it was draining the battery in less than 2 hours of screen on time and killing my data and I wasn't about to accept that so I downgraded back to Lollipop! I get a good 8 to 12 hours of screen on time now. I do think the only way to fix the battery problem when updating is to factory reset the device first so there's absolutely nothing on it and then update to MM 6.0..

They're listed separately so you can see which one is using the most data, that way you'll know which one it is.. The other thing is, you need an OS in order for anything to run obviously which is why I said they all run on the OS. But like I said they're separated for a reason.

Did you do anything at all before this started to do that? If not, maybe you should try factory resetting the phone because I know data isn't cheap anymore!
By the way, there's also network monitoring tools on the play store that you can try out so you can pin it down to which process is using it all up.
I did nothing new / different. Factory resetting is annoying. What's the best app to pinpoint which process it is?

So, still no update. Those apps don't measure specific apps or anything. But it's pushing 2gb a month of data.
I'm also looking for answers.
Android OS used 1GB data in one day in the backgroud (uploading). So it's not updates.
I'm not using Cloud or any other backup service.
Has anyone else noticed heavy standby drain from Android System?
I spent a couple of hours digging through to find the culprit and it looks like it's actually Qualcomm's IZat location services. Even though you can disable it in the location settings it is still set to scan and report back to Qualcomm's servers via a couple of config files in /etc.
Instead of changing the config files and forgetting which ones I changed I simply disabled the service in location settings then disabled the package that IZat uses and rebooted.
I am already seeing an decrease in battery usage and I have been able to still use GPS.
You can either freeze the app with Titanium Backup or whatever you choose. I did it through adb which I believe is even possible to do without root.
com.qualcomm.location
Code:
adb shell pm disable com.qualcomm.location
I hope this helps someone else out that was having the same issue. I did not get a screen shoot of my battery usage before disabling the service but I have included one with it disabled.
I was losing 15% overnight with a kernel wakelock for the entire night that showed up as LocationManagerServiceEx through GSam
for users with no root:
Code:
adb shell pm hide com.qualcomm.location
I'm going to poke around and try and find the files in /etc you mentioned.. would rather tackle the actual problem in the config files than disable izat entirely. good find though. I'm currently trying to find the source of my Google Play services drain (may be related to pushbullet). you mentioned that it was showing up in your Android system drain so not sure if it'll help with my specific issue but if it does I'll report back.

ahh thank you. I got sidetracked when trying to pinpoint my drain and never went through all the files. I will check out those 2 files as well as grep around through the rest.
and thanks for the dumpsys tip... never actually used it. I went the easy route and reinstalled BetterBatteryStats. Within 20 minutes a partial waklock stood out... "CmaSystemUpdateService"
A quick google lead me to this reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/Nexus/comments/4jmw74/cmasystemupdateservice_wakelock/
Made sense... I had blocked OTA updates using the same method Nexus devices use.. as the tmo g5 gets its updates the same way.. instead of using LG's own updater like most of the other variants. As soon as re-enabled "SystemUpdateService" in Google Play Services the wakelock stopped and battery was fine. I'm not sure what needs to be done to stop the wakelock while still blocking OTA updates... more research must be done.

I had the same drain after disabling updated on my tmo g5. I used app MyAndroidTools to fix it. After you disable system updates open the app and grant root. Open the menu and click on service, broadcast receiver and activity options. In each on goto system then find Google play services and disable anything that says system update then go back and do the same for Google play services framework. After disabling for all three categories restart and your wavelock will be gone. Also you can disable the OTA using this method as well. Seems like when using adb it only disables some of the services but not all which is why it keeps searching for updates. Hope this helps.
I too have this irritating wakelock which prevents the phone from reaching deep sleep (it shows up as LocationManagerServiceEx in betterbatterystats).
When I freeze the com.qualcomm.location app however, GPS actually DOES NOT work the way it is supposed to. Interestingly, it results in the GPS behaving just like the 10A GPS bug--GPS is achieved, but then cuts in and out all the time, making nav near useless. The 10D update fixed this. So maybe the implementation was buggy in the 10a firmware.
Still would be nice to have a more permanent fix for this wakelock issue. I'm not getting the cmasystemupdateservice issue.

For some reason, out of the blue, I received the Nougat update notification today. I plan on staying on MM until I retire the device.
I had previously knocked out the OTA update receivers using 3c system tuner, just disabling the receiver elements that matched the 3 ones you listed in your all in one thread.
When I looked at the running receivers, one of them that was still on for some reason (update.systemupdateserviceactivereceiver). I can toggle it off, but it doesn't stick with a reboot. Under services, update.systemupdateservice was still active.
I decided to go the ADB route. I stopped the services using your ADB commands. This fixed the OTA. But then just as you mentioned, the CmaSystemUpdateService wakelock came in.
Did your research come up with any new ways to stop the OTA notification?

I had the same drain after disabling updated on my tmo g5. I used app MyAndroidTools to fix it. After you disable system updates open the app and grant root. Open the menu and click on service, broadcast receiver and activity options. In each on goto system then find Google play services and disable anything that says system update then go back and do the same for Google play services framework. After disabling for all three categories restart and your wavelock will be gone. Also you can disable the OTA using this method as well. Seems like when using adb it only disables some of the services but not all which is why it keeps searching for updates. Hope this helps.

Just saw this post just now. Do you have a more detailed list of what you disabled?

Using the app My Android Tools is the easiest way I found. Then do like I said before and go into each category and click on Google play services and search for systemupdate, disable anything the comes up. Then go into Google services framework and search for same thing and disable anything that comes up. I've included some screenshots, hopefully that helps. Maybe when I have more time I'll write each thing down and post list but don't have time right now.
