I was trying to get a head start on reading that 500+ thread before my new phone comes but was getting overwhelmed and thought there might be a quick answer.

if by switching mobo and the imei recognition on network, just do the unlock. it's very simple
if the phone is on froyo,
here is gb

here is insecure gb kernels you can flash using sgs kernel flasher or in cwm
if you want jb or kk, find the: how to flash jb by andros11
that's about it.

unlock phone
after opening a terminal emulator type the following
cd /efs/root/afs/settings <enter>
su <enter> <at this point your phone will ask for superuser access ALLOW it if you already haven't done so>
dd if=nv_data.bin skip=8 count=4 | strings <enter>
Your unlock code will be displayed in terminal emulator. something like this...
4+0 records in
4+0 records out
2048 bytes transferred in 0.001 secs (2048000 bytes/sec)
18164367
00000000
00000000
00000000
00000000
Btw, the nv_data.bin file is located in the same location across froyo, gb, ics or jb. /efs/root/afs/settings
This method, "dd if=nv_data.bin skip=8 count=4 | strings" also works on all platform.
So is this the only thing I have to do to unlock the new (to me) phone, type this string in the terminal emulator on the phone and that's it?
I don't know what OS is yet.

Probably yes. The new phone was unlocked after I put in my mb. However, I do not know if the phone was already unlocked.

[Q] AT&T Bootloader Unlock

Hey, I'm kind of a noob here. Where do I get fastboot.exe from? Im stuck on step 11 in the "[UNLOCK] AT&T Bootloader Unlock Through HTC-Dev" thread
you need to download the android sdk, it has it in there as stated in the htcdev unlocking instructions
Thanks, I was able to get it to work once the one click unlock tool was posted.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Stupid questions but I can't seem to find simple answers:
a) do I need to be on a specific FW version or have a specific bootloader to unlock?
b) how do I tell what version I have?
c) does/can this get rid of the "tampered" on the bootloader screen?
d) does/can this give us full S-Off?
I'm assuming you're on the HTCDEV part because if you're not using the tool and you're asking this question you're doing it wrong.
that being said, it should come in the android SDK, if it doesn't then just copy the exe file out of the tool folder that you unzipped.
Edit, I see you already got it answered.

Thanks for the info.
Another couple of dumb questions:
Will we ever be able to get rid of that "tampered" notice?
How does that notice effect me should my phone, say, fall and break its screen or have some other hardware-related failure? (I'm a klutz)
What does SuperCID mean and how does that effect me?

Maybe, who knows on the "tampered" and yea you void your warranty so if you are afraid of hardware failure then don't do it, or but insurance on it. That's what I have, if I brick it cost me 100.00 rather than 600.00.
"Waiting for device"
Every attempt and different ways always brings me to that part. I have does the oneClick supercid program and I've even gone through the HTCDEV website 6 times now. after it reboots into boot loader mode and I direct it to the folder with the 3 files in it through cmd and I get to the final step to where it says "Waiting for device" trying to get the cid codes for my phone and nothing. I am at the end of my ropes of how to unlock codes. if anyone can help me or walk me through via text or video I would be so happy. I just want this thing finally unlocked and over with.
I take it your on this step?
11. Type "dd if=/sdcard/mmcblk0p4MOD of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p4" and hit enter. To test if it worked restart the phone into fastboot (type "adb reboot bootloader" and hit enter) and once the bootloader screen comes up type "fastboot oem readcid" and hit enter. It should read "11111111".
12. Next type "fastboot oem get_identifier_token" and hit enter. Leave that up on your screen and go to HTCdev.com. Follow the instructions from there. Choose "All other supported models" from the dropdown menu.
If so, Step 11 is kinda tricky worded after you type the command to reboot the device. Just don't even wait put the second line in "fastboot oem readcid" the batch file will wait for the phone. I hope this helps ya I had the same problem before And booted the phone back up and tried again but last time I just rebooted with the command then right after than put in the second command.

Devs will find a way to remove tampered label once we find S-OFF. After the device has been "tampered", if your phone breaks and you send it to HTC warranty, they will not replace your phone if you have flashed a custom ROM on it. How they know you've flashed a custon ROM, I'm not sure.
SuperCID is the development CID designed to work on HTC phones. It allows you to unlock your bootloader through HTCDev.com. It also allows you to flash RUUs, because RUUs check CIDs on phones to determine whether the RUU is a valid ROM for your phone. However, it has been said this is hit/miss.
Don't take my exact word for it, use GOOGLE.COM.
I waited for the one-click tools, and I'm glad I did.
Forgot to mention
my Main computer is my iMac and I have a windows 7 laptop I switch to for my flashing/rooting etc... because I am not good with terminal or adb steps after a few seizures I've had recently. So shell stuff is completely useless to me. I can follow the steps on the briefmobile website then I have the HTCDEV account. but still at a lost.. for some reason.
I never got a 1111111 or whatever message
It just went straight to "Waiting for/on device" I tried again even attempted somewhat the hex edit way. but I never saw any "CW__111" or whatever in the file that I threw into HxE I think that was the hex program I used on my laptop. To frustrated to check in other room. I even kept looking at 210 section and nothing. So I'm not sure what is going on that won't let me unlock. Maybe I'll check youtube to see if there is a video on unlocking the bootloader.

You should just use the one-click Super-CID tool in the Developers section, it's much faster and hassle free.
Thanks but that option never succeeded
I finally got it to unlock and get past that "Waiting for device issue" it seems even though I had my device plugged in and all the android and HTC drivers installed, it never registered that it could sense android 1.0 plugged in. so I had to manually right click and force it to install the drivers and it finally found device. low and behold it clicked and I got my email instantly right afterwards. So now I need how on installing CWM any ideas how to? be I am wanting to try out Team nocturnal's Rom for a little bit to see what it has to offer. Thanks for comment also by the way.

Had similar problem. Found unlock code in /dev/mmcblk... after rooting but didn't have a foreign SIM to test resulting unlock code until after flashing Cyanogen ROM. Finally bought a PureTalk prepaid SIM prior to traveling abroad to test and unlock code did not work. Before full on panic, flashed nandroid backup of TMO ROM and unlock code worked (whew!) Flashed back to CM10.1 and still unlocked. Now I can travel with phone assurance.
Apparently, you need to be running a SENSE ROM in order for the unlock code to actually work.

Hi can i use this method for all android devices?
Hi, I tried to unlock my HTC One S on 4 differents paid websites, but all say "unfortunately your unlock code cannot be calcuted, please double check your IMEI blabla" ). Since yestarday I kept trying these methods with NO SUCCESS.
Terminal emulator and ADB Shell say String not Fount / No IMEI
I try the method with ES file explorer. The bad news is The file "mmcblk0p6" is crypted when i opened as text. but when i open with notepad++ on my laptop THE IMEI in the file "mmcblk0p6" is completely different when I type *#06#
I calculate the NCK code with both IMEI, phone says "incorrect password" I pay for the IMEI i find in the file, the server send me the same NCK with the app in method 2.
All necessary information about IMEI, model, carrier are in the attachment
Please anyone have an idea?

I think I have a similar problem.
I have an HTC One S (I think S4 - 1.5Ghz). It is locked to ORange. I unlocked bootloader, rooted and finally managed to get busybox etc installed.
Method 1 and 2 provide the same code-
IMEI: 2547014 (last 7 digits)
Un lock code: 062975078
(sim unlock 61522531)
Method 3 didn't work as I got stuck after loading grep etc via busybox.
When I entered the unlock code I calculated the phone said unlock successful and that a reboot was necessary, but when it rebooted it asked for the unlock code again! I tried a different recovery (was using clockwork, went to twrp but still asked for the code on reboot.
I am scared to re-enter the code as I know I have limited tries - so far I have only entered it the once. I have factory resetted the phone - should I try and enter the code again?
I have now lost the boot screen after the factory reset so I don't think I can check the hboot.
As far as I am aware I did not install a new ROM at any point.
Thankyou thankyou and thankyou :->
We cannot thank you enough for sharing this brief 'tutuorial'. It worked like a charm once we had rooted the phone (which was the tricky part).
In case of it being helpful to anyone else, our device was prepared using:-
- CWM Ville with Touch Recovery ROM image.
- Chainfire SuperSU.
- BusyBox (must use Team Trickster's 'on Rails' initially so as to install from ZIP/SD storage,) followed by an immediate upgrade using the stericson version).
After installing that little lot, the acquisition of the sim unlock code was was a breeze. Thank you again.
Tested on HTC One S (S4)
Locked to Spanish vodafone
Worked like a charm
Had a little trouble installing busybox so installed viper S rom 2 and things went straight
Thank you very much
Cincinatti Bell Wireless
SIM unlock worked great after my crashcourse on rooting, recovery, and the bootloader all last night. But even customer support with HTC and T Mobile told me since it's from Cincinatti Bell Wireless, T Mobiles internet service WILL NOT WORK. :crying:
There's gotta be a work-around. Any way to move a Cincinatti Bell Wireless exclusive phone to T Mobile? There ought to be considering their wireless service is ending in a month. That carrier wasn't even in my area.

Tried all methods, outputting wrong IMEI
Hi guys, I've tried all the methods and I'm ending up at the same unlock code which doesn't work. I noticed the stated IMEI in the bash script is different to my actual IMEI, and so I guess the Un_Lock Code is wrong as well. I've checked the mmcblk0 files using a hex editor and the correct IMEI is in there. Does anyone have any ideas?
I am unlocked, S-off, SuperCID, clockwork Mod recovery, busybox installed, running the Stock ROM from factory reset.
Thanks
hi,
so i can't get unlock code with this command
su [enter]
strings -n 8 /dev/block/mmcblk0p6 [enter]
but it work well with this one
1. Note IMEI *#06#
2. adb shell
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p6 of=/sdcard/mmcp6.dump
3. Open mmcp6.dump on SDCARD
4. Look for in this file your IMEI
5. Just in front of your IMEI a 8-digit code which corresponds to the unlock code
may help some one

Depends on what model. Verizon branded not yet. Not without root. Need root to pull the code from the phone. I'll be working on that after I get root. As for the others check around the forums. I did it with Motorola phones. It was in /dev/block/stl5 not sure where Samsungs is located yet.

That's the international version right? If so, there is root and custom ROMs available. Once you get root, get adb, open a terminal and run
adb shell su pull /dev/block /whatever/directory/
Them send it to me. I'll look through it and find it.

For anybody that has ALREADY unlocked their bootloader >> PLEASE READ!

Hi, I am new to the Nokia 7 Plus forums, and I know that a bootloader unlocking method is sorely needed.
I would like to ask those who have ALREADY unlocked their bootloaders to send me the signature file they used in the "fastboot flashing unlock..." command.
By sending me this file, I can TRY to determine how the IMEI and Serial Number is used to generate the bootloader signature file and, If successful, I can release an unofficial bootloader unlocking method, for FREE.
OR IF SOMEBODY IS ROOTED, PLEASE FOLLOW THESE STEPS AND SEND ME THE FILE GENERATED AFTER:
1. Connect your phone to your PC with USB Debugging on
2. Open Command Prompt and type "adb shell".
3. Then type "su"
4. Then type "cd /dev/block/bootdevice/by-name"
5. Then type "ls -al"
6. Then, you will need to find the "mmcblk0p?" that is listed on the same line as "aboot" (e.g. mmcblk0p1)
7. Once you have found that, type "dd if=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/(the mmcblk0p that you got above) of=/sdcard/aboot.img"
8. Then send me the aboot.img file that is located on your phone's SD card.
This applies to all owners of the Nokia 5, 5.1, 6, 6.1, 7, 7+, 8, 8 Sirocco

Well by looking on the threads around Nokia devices, it seems that there are people who used this method to unlock the bootloader
Hi, I have sent you a PM with the key for my Nokia 7. I hope you are able to find something out of them
Development is growing:laugh:
Hi everyone, a quick update:
My Nokia 7 Plus is currently in for repair so I will still try to decipher the signature files before I try any bootloader unlock, and I won't be trying to unlock the bootloader until I get my 7+ back from the shop, but once it gets back....
You're the man! I wish I can help you but unfortunately my device is locked.

It is possible. I've done it today. Paid for the signature file, applied it based on the instructions and tada I have unlocked the bootloader. It was a hard earned 5 dollars...
BTW would that aboot.img file be the boot image? Cuz I would need to extract mine and patch it with magisk to get root. Can you tell me how to pull it? Thanks. Signature file I'm not willing to share, sorry, as it probably contains my IMEI. But if you have a Nokia, I'll pay you the 5 bucks to get your own file which you can then reverse engineere.
5$ for unlocking is not a big deal,so don't waste time by finding how the serial number and IMEI number combination works to create bin...unlock the bootloader and try to make custom roms bro, spend time there
By the way I have unlocked and rooted my 7 plus ?

We are out of luck already. The old unlock files do not work after the August update. Seems patched up. So, back to no official and/or unofficial unlock again
