[Q] What's happened with my phone during night? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Going to sleep I put my phone on the charger. When I woke up it was boot looping and damn hot even to hold. I managed to turn it off, went to recovery and cleared cache and dalvik cache - after that it booted normaly (it seems). During all night (~7h) it managed to charge only up to ~45%.
The problem that I have now:
when the charger is connected screen keeps locking up and unlocking rapidly - there is nothing I can do.
I am using latest LiquidSmooth rom.
Any ideas what the hell is happening?
Edit: setting "stay awake" in developer options helped to solve the issue with rapidly locking up and unlocking while charging. Still it's a mistery what has happened

probably an app running on the background or use the batterystats app and it will tell you which app has been draining the battery

You enabled battery animations, atm it causes that issue like it says in the op of liquidsmooth

It wasn't the TYLT wireless charger was it? I know some people were having problems with it where it would heat up immensely.

Having a MAJOR Issue

Today while in the car my GF plugged her phone into the cig charger and it said it was charging. After she unplugged it the battery still showed it was charging.. So I factory reset it and wiped dalvik cache. That did nothing. The phone boots up showing that its plugged into USB and debugging is active. So I did a full wipe and reflashed the ROM (Royal Glacier v1.2). Still having the same results. After checking the uptime I also noticed uptime and awake time are the same so the phone isnt sleeping when the screen turns off. Anyone have the slightest clue wtf happened? I thought the ROM may have just glitched but the fact that its still there after a full wipe and reflash is making me worry. Any help would be appreciated!

This is a hardware defect, it's nothing a flash can really fix, I had this issue way back on my G1 sometimes. I would call Tmo to request a replacement, the charger is confusing the phone so there's no much you can do now.
Figured.. Ok thanks for the fast reply!

[Q] problem when charging

Hey guys I have been running into a problem ever since I've started using custom roms for my g2x. Sometimes when I plug my phone in To charge it after I leave it there for half an hour or so j come back and the phone is extremely hot and its locked up. Cannot unlock screen or turn it on. It just looks like it is off. The only way to get it to turn back on is to remove the battery for a mjnute and then put it back in and then it will turn on. Any ideas as to why this is happening?
I had this problem before too..start with a fresh wipe but use the G2xScrubber to do this then do a format of the system, data and cache which is located mounts and storage. Then wipe dalvik and flash ROM.

try enabling "Stay Awake" in the development part of the settings menu.
Charging is controlled by the bootloader and kernel. So if there is a problem with overheating, etc. during charging I would suspect the kernel first and then the bootloader. It could be you are using a custom kernel that doesn't handle charging properly.
I was having it too, if I change kernel it would be fixed?

[Q] Atrix 2 wont boot up, battery issues?

Hi guys,
I just recently flashed my phone to the Romulus rom, and its been going great. There have been a few hiccups but nothing too big, except for 2 things:
1. Whenever the phone is plugged in, the lockscreen becomes unresponsive. When i try putting in my unlock pattern, it only allows about 2 dots max before it thinks i have lifted my finger of the screen. To fully enter the pattern i have to unplug it, enter the pattern then reconnect the charger. Anyone else had this, or know of a fix?
2. This is the major one. For some reason, when my phone turns off due to low battery, the phone just wont come on, no matter how much i charge it. It gets stuck in a bootloop at the moto logo. Its happened twice now, the first time i somehow got it working by using the charger to turn it on, then unplugging and pressing the power button immediately at the logo. However yesterday this isnt working. When i do that, at times it boots up, but then when it gets to the lock screen it tells me to connect the charger, then shuts down again. The battery icon is red with an X accros the symbol. Does this mean that its not detecting the battery? How would i fix this?
Cheers for your help

First off mate, all questions go in our Q&A Section, so just keep that in mind going forward.
Now, your 1st question regarding the touch screen's responsiveness while trying to unlock with password, I've experienced this myself, and while charging. Though I'm not really sure what causes this, to be truthful. I've found though, that sometimes locking and unlocking will get things to cooperate. I doubt it there's anything to cause concern with any hardware (digitizer) since you don't mention this as being an issue outside the unlocking of the device while charging. Mine was sporadic, and I eventually grew tiresome of the pattern unlock, and did away with it altogether. Perhaps someone else could chime in here with a better explanation as to why this happens. (?)
Now, to your more 'serious' issue. Seeing as how you have Clockworkmod Recovery (CWM) installed, you never want to allow your device to power down at the low battery state. You're lucky that you can at least -or at least have- been able to boot after a low power shut down. You may need to FXZ back to stock, if the phone will not boot at all. Can you get into AP Fastboot by pressing and holding AT THE SAME TIME the volume up +volume down + power buttons? If so, you can restore to stock and get yourself out of the soft brick. Here is a great thread with discussions by Fall of Enosis and jimbridgman, I suggest you read through this:

Edit: Also i'm on SCV7 so it's nothing to do with the rom.
For your second Q...Try to clear battery stats on CWM?? Sometimes when u flash a new rom u need to clear those stats...So give it a shot and let us know what happened.

This won't do anything for the OP's inability to boot. That's why I said that likely his best bet is to see if he can boot into AP Fastboot, so that he may be able to FXZ back to stock...

Cheers for the heads up, its not exactly a question, but I've seen questions on this board before so i thought that was ok.
Thing is, its not that it wont boot, it boots after i charge it for a while, but it states that the charger is not connected each time it boots, then shuts down.
Why should we not allow it to go into a low battery state when on CWM? I also set CWM recovery to start at each boot, and i have backups of just before and after i flashed the phone. Cant i just restore a previous backup rather than flash to stock?
And with the battery reset, doesnt clear any user data yeah? I have alot of stuff i would hate to lose

Okay, I thought from the thread title that at some point, the phone wouldn't boot after a low power shut down. If the phone is saying that it isn't recognizing the battery while charging, you might have some luck trying the methods I overview in THIS POST. The battery will NOT charge while in CWM Recovery, nor will it charge while in AP Fastboot. This is why it is imperative that you not allow the phone to get to such a low power stage, especially when attempting a flash. You can certainly restore via CWM either of the backups that you have, and see if the problem clears up. And with a battery stats reset, nothing is wiped except the battery statistics. All of your user data, applications, settings, etc. will remain in tact. Hope this helps...

The battery reset actually worked! I had to charge it for quite a while on the usb charger since it wouldnt charge on the mains charger. Once it was on i made a backup then cleared the battery stats, and now it detects the mains charger.
Cheers for your help guys i still dont get why it wouldnt charge on the mains charger when the battery was low, even though before it would charge before when the battery wasnt...

Is my phone dead?

Hello, I am using galaxy S3 stock rom and my phone keeps shutting down/rebooting when I am using it. Sometimes I let it charge and 20 minutes later it turns off and I have to try many times to boot it. Many times I let my phone on airplane mode at night at 53% battery and It drains completely. I tried other batteries but still the same thing. Did anyone ever experience this?
Thanks

If you're sure it's not a battery problem, and you've run a battery calibration after backup, factory reset, and restore, just to be completely positive, you might want to see if it is a power button issue. The internals of the button get stuck every so often, and I found that when it was usable, I still got huge battery drain, and sometimes turning off and on by itself. There was a place near me that fixed the button on my S4 mini for $15, worked just like new.
I found that the phone was losing battery when when turned off, try leaving it off overnight and if it drains, it's probably an issue with the button.
If it's just a software problem, then that won't help. What does the OS say is using the battery? Maybe check for wakelocks with a battery saving app, I'm sure someone could recommend something

I Just played around with the power button because there was some dust and removed the battery and tried cleaning the metal things. I tried it today and it did not shut down once, i will see how it goes.. :good:

I had a problem which was similar to this but the phone I got is LYF Flame 7.
My phone was automatically shutting down a few minutes after the device is locked, I investigated every setting to check whether anything like auto shutting down or sleep or something was enabled , but every settings were okay but the problem continued.
When I bought this phone, I was disabled a lot of useless stock apps . I re-enabled all these apps to their default and then the problem is solved.
So you just try reverting your apps to their default,if you have tried to disabled it.
Clear its Cache and Misc
Also try a factory reset and try to boot the phone without any SIM cards and SD card.
In my knowledge , I think , the problem of your phone is software related and hardware is okay.
And keep investigating in S3 threads.

Phone keeps shutting down after locking the screen

Hey there, i have a smartphone (android 5.0.2). it has a bootlooping problem, it turns on at a certain battery percentage. I can keep the phone on as long as i keep the screen on. the moment the screen locks, the phone shuts down automatically and goes to bootloop again. for the bootlooping i tried to install a fresh stock firmware and it helped a little with the bootloop. not that it doesn't bootloop, but it turns on faster. for the shutting down i thought maybe the battery needs to be calibrated so i tried calibrating the battery. the phone is not rooted so i tried the alternative with apps as well as charging to 100 and fully discharging it. it helped with displaying the percentage correctly but it still shuts down when its screen locks.
so first of all what could be the reason for bootloop and how to fix it, secondly what causes the phone to shutdown when it locks the screen.
is it a hardware problem? also the phone is LG G2.
Update: just changed the phone battery and it still boot looping. any ideas what else could cause this problem?
