[Q] USB Debugging won't stay on - General Questions and Answers

I tried searching the forums but didn't find a solution or problem that was close enough to mine.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 for US Cellular and whenever I try to turn USB debugging on, it won't stay on.
I first have the USB unplugged, I check "USB Debugging", I plug my phone back in via USB, a popup appears that says "Tethering Detected" and upon clicking OK the USB debugging checkbox is now unchecked..
I am not rooted and would like to find a solution that doesn't require me to be preferably.
Maybe a way to make the phone not think its going to be tethering since I have no desire to do so?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Bump. Anybody have this problem before even?

Help me recovering Samsung Galaxy Mini II

Hello.
Short story: my phone was a little wet and i have some issues with it, mostly i want to get a mass storage to get working. (cant root)
Basically at first the phone didn't even want to charge, when i connected it to the PC windows was giving me an error that the device cannot be recognized, and couldn't install the drivers. (i had Kies installed)
I dried it completely, now the phone turns on without any problem, when i connect it to the pc the phone is recognizing connection (i hear sound + the button backlights are firing up for a sec)
Homever, windows is not detecting any USB device at all, and in about phone/info it says the phone is connected to the AC instead of USB.
When i connect it with USB there is no dropdown in notification to choose from charging, storage etc.
There is also manual usb storage mounting under settings/communication/usb settings , when i'm trying to mount here it just says to connect the phone with usb cable (not detecting connection, homever the backlight + sound is here after connecting, and it's charging)
I tried connecting it with usb debugging on/off even tried to fiddle with in service menu (*#7284#) but nothing.
And since i cannot get the usb storage working basically i cannot flash anything or root it.
Also the USB cable is not a Samsung but an HTC one, could this be a problem? (people in different thread said those cables are the same so it shouldnt be a problem, same amperage, same stick etc.)
Even tried to install MountUSB Widget from market, but it doesn't work when im trying to start the app it's force closing, when i make widget on desktop and press it the phone just vibrate for 1 sec and nothing happens.
When i connect phone with Kies AIR and it works, i mean it shows the storage information, also recognize the phone model correctly, how much free space i have on internal and on SD card but i cannot click "show in explorer" it's greyed out.
Any experts out there could help me? :crying:
Just a blind guess, try a USB cable which supports your device. If it doesn't help, I'm afraid it's a hardware problem and you will have to consult some hardware expert.

USB connection problem, connection type screen does not appear

When i'm connecting my phone via usb, choose a connection type screen does not appear and i cant select the "disk drive" or "charge only" options. When i tap to change usb settings, it sends me to "portable hotspot & tethering"
Windows recognizes usb device
Phone is stock, some days ago updated to android 4.1
Try disabling usb debugging. On my Blade I have to do that if I want to mount it as usb storage.
My S and tablets doesnt need that though, but might be worth a shot.
Hmm interesting my phone turns usb debugging automaticaly on when i connect my device, tried hard reset, problem still remains
I see. I read about someone else having the same issue on JB. I guess its a bug or something.
I guess you either have to flash a custom rom or wait for an official update.
In the mean time, you could always use quick adb pusher. Much better than mounted usb storage (requires a working adb connection, which you should have if you have installed htc sync)

[Q] USB Mass storage missing on gingerbread

Hey guys,
I'm trying to root my blaze so i can go from gingerbread to CM10, however i noticed my phone's mass storage function isnt even turning on... and obviously i cant run ODIN without my computer recognizing the phone. I tried turning debugging mode both on and off, etc.
When i plug the usb cable from phone to computer, it only charges. There's no setting in the pull-down menu saying anything about mass storage, no usb icon on top, that whole (software) part of the phone seems to be missing. I just bought this thing unlocked.. its not rooted and i did a hard reset as well.
When i go into settings/ wireless/ usb utilities, i see the mass storage button. It says Connect storage to PC. if my usb cable is plugged in, it says "USB is connected. Remove the cable." If its not connected and i hit the button, it says "please connect cable" and once i plug it in, nothing happens but charging. Any ideas? Can i root using kies?
Thanks for the help!

You can't root via kies. But you can upgrade to ICS via kies and see if that helps. Provided kies recognizes your phone... Otherwise, I know very little about GB since I immediately upgraded to ICS upon purchasing my Blaze.
Have you seen mobileodin?

@ njstein, I see the update now that you mentioned it, although it looks like the update is no longer provided? Check out these links, the samsung site link is broken for tmobile blaze, and the tmobile site link shows in the info box on top that the upgrades were only being provided until March 5? *I put a space between the .com on the links because i'm not allowed to post links yet*

@ Somcom3X, I'll see if i can find threads on this forum about mobileodin. I think if i can just root the damn thing to bring it up to CM10 the rom should include usb cable software, correct?
I'll see if I can make something happen. Thanks for the tips guys.
@njstein On that tmobile link i put up, it says that software version T769UVLF5 wont receive the update because it is up to date??? That makes no sense as i'm on that version running GB. Are they trying to say that for whatever reason my phone cant do the upgrade? One thing after the next..

It appears only the model 9000s galaxy S is compatible with mobile odin, i dont see anything about the blaze. I couldnt post a message on the mobile odin thread due to low post count. I also read that your phone must be rooted to be able to use mobile odin. Do you guys have any other ideas how i can root my phone without a usb cable?

Dev Options > USB Debugging always gets turned off.

My phone is a Mt7-tl10 and is rooted. When I go to Titainium Backup it almost always prompts me to turn on the USB Debugging. I don't know what would be the cause of this. It could not be a cable thing because I did not connect my phone with a computer or charge my phone.
Maybe you guys know the cause of the problem and a fix for this?
