[Q] cm didnt installed the stock launcher - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I recently got my nexus 5 and I installed CM 11 on it yesterday...
I am still trying to figure it out..
I know I suupose to have the option to select between launcher and launcher 3.
I got only launcher 3, and I was wondering is there a way to install the stock launcher?
Thank you!

Which GApps did you install? I think when you install the full GApps, it replaces the stock AOSP launcher with the Google Experience Launcher. If you want to keep the stock launcher, you have to install a version of GApps that excludes the GEL.

Could you refer me to good gapps that give me the option to choose between GEL and Cm launcher?
Or at least only GEL?
I am almost 100% that in the older versions of cm you could choose between the launchers...

If you do not want the GEL you can delete the apk from within the zip.

FULL MODULAR PACKAGE
This package is identical to the Google Stock Package above except that it does NOT include Google Keyboard, Google PhotoSphere Camera/Gallery, and will not remove your stock/AOSP Launcher, Keyboard, Browser, or SMS App.
In addition, it also includes Google Bookmark Sync. If you don't have a Nexus device and/or prefer to use the stock/AOSP apps, this package would be perfect for you.

I want to disable HTC Sense UI and use the native android 2.2 UI......
Any ideas on how we can get it? (without rooting or using anything like LauncherPro or AWD?)

Well, outside of rooting, I'm guessing the only way would be finding an launcher app that looks similar.
Not a lot of options.
So there is no way to get it unless I root my Evo?
How do I get it if I root it?

Look at the development section. Most roms have screenshots on there, so just find one with the style you're looking for.
of course, make sure to look at the descriptions of the roms, bc they're custom for more thean their looks. A lot of them add and remove features, and they may be things that you don't like. Definitely choose carefully.
Anyways, if you're not rooted, and u've installed the 2.2 update from sprint, you're not going to be able to root at the moment anyways.

Awesome thanks for your help TJDuckett
I was hoping it was much easier than all of that.....like just some .apk that I install...
Oops, didn't see that don't want to use LP or ADW.. nevermind...

If you just want the stock 2.2 launcher go to settings then applications find the rosie app and clear defaults then when you hit the home button select launcher 2 as default. Sense will still be integrated through out the phone but you will have the stock 2.1 launcher
in the latest 2.2 update for Sprint they removed the native launcher all together. I have attached it to this post for you. Enjoy! It also reinstalls the stock backgrounds which were also removed. BTW this does not require root. Just simply install apk file.

In the root of your sd card (I made a folder on the sdcard called Android Apk and put all my apk's in there). Than open up Astro, migrate to the apk and install it.

No the apk I uploaded is the stock 2.2 launcher.
Sense widgets go with the sense launcher which is why you won't find then when using the Android 2.2 launcher.
To install just double tap the apk in astro or another file explorer.

Then you didn't install this apk. Mine says:
Name: com.android.launcher
Label: Launcher
File Version: 2.2
Nowhere on the summary or details tab does it say ADW.
It is clearly the stock android 2.2 launcher.
Is there a reason the phone button doesn't work? I get a message saying there's no app installed on my phone.

[Q] What's the difference between launchers and ROMs?

What's the difference between launchers and ROMs?
Will installing a launcher mess with an installed ROM?
Thanks in advance
Launcher is a UI that lays over the ROM to give a different user experience. Go ahead and try them... they are safe. I recommend nova launcher myself

A launcher is an app. A ROM is the whole system of the phone.
The ROM is all the apps and such on your phone. A launcher only has the interface of your home screens.
A launcher shouldn't mess with your ROM.

I found Apex launcher to be good as well, so you can try that one also.
Will try out Nova which Glacierguy recommended later tonight to see how it looks and works.
Thanks guys. I'll go and play around for a bit now

REQUEST: Flash-able 4.4.3 dialer for 4.4.2

I'm Running PA 4.4 Beta1 w/Themer and I Want The 4.4.3 Dialer app. Ive downled the apk and installed it on my Nexus 5 but it does nothing. Please help.. or tell me what I'm Doing wrong with the install.
When I added the GoogleDialer.apk and GoogleDialer.odex to the priv-app, there weren't any dialer. So, I had the original Dialer.apk and Dialer.odex from the rom I was running and installed that. Once that was done, the Google Dialer worked. But I have 2 dialer installed.
So, try having both the Dialer.apk and GoogleDialer.apk (make sure you fix permission).

Odd it worked for me on AOKP. Reflashing the rom should fix it. Here is the original Paranoid Android AOSP- Google Dialer module, that might help.

I apologize apparently there are issues with CM based roms which caused paranoid android to take that module down. But if you have the Google Dialer you should just be able to install the apk via a file browser. Which is what I did originally. But I thought all of the gapps packages had the AOSP Dialer, which would make a duplicate dialer on your phone.

Default Wallpapers Location

Hi guys, i want to change default wallpapers before installing a custom rom, where are the system wallpapers located? I found only one wallpaper in the framework-res.apk/res/drawable-nodpi-v4 named default_wallpaper.jpg but i'm not sure (there are other drawable folders with default wallpapers, but i don't see those when i try to change wallpapers from the launcher).. Where are the other wallpapers?

I don't have google launcher in the rom, it's installed via play store.. so in the framework apk there is only the default wallpaper right?

There will be another launcher on there. For example in AOSP, it has another Launcher, Launcher2 or Laucnher3 or whatever. Its actually impossible to use the phone with no launcher. Basically whatever launcher is built into the phone should contain the wallpapers

The wallpapers are in both those apps, so whichever one you have, they're in the apk.
Glad I could help.
Default system wallpaper is located in system/framework/framework-res.apk/res/drawable-nodpi-v4/. All other wallpapers are part of launchers.

More stock android on S7 (no root)

Hello! I love hardware of S7 but some touchwizz stuff i found boring and slow... so... I gather some stuff across XDA to make S7 more vanila.
Keyboard (slow and without features)
Replacement: Gboard - the Google Keyboard > PLayStore
Messages
Replacement: Android Messages > Google Playstore
Phone ( slow and messy)
Replacement: Google Dialler > this Thread > APP
Contacts
Replacement: Google Contacts > this thread > APP
Launcher: (erm Touchwizz)
Replacement: Pixel Launcer Android O > Apk mirror
OK... so if you installed all above.. you can now disable:
com.sec.phone
com.samsung.android.messaging
com.samsung.android.contacts
com.sec.android.app.easylauncher
com.sec.android.app.launcher
com.sec.android.inputmethod
if you disable touchwizz launcher - you can also disable
com.sec.android.provider.badge
com.samsung.android.themestore
com.samsung.android.themecenter
And... now you are step closer to stock Android without root on S7..
If you don't like result - enable disabled apps - uninstall google stuff ....

It doesn't allow me to disable contacts. Or calendar. Or any of those apps.. the disable is greyed out. Love S7. But hate absolutely hate TouchWiz. Can anyone show me how to just do a vanilla install.

just flash TWRP recovery and flash Pixel ROM or vanila, stock Google ROM.
if you don't like TouchWiz why buy Samsung phone ? Motorola, ZTE, Nokia and few other OEM use pixel launcher

because samsung has one of the best hardwares in their phones and yes I also donĀ“t like touchwiz.
So I decided to give this a shot and I have realized that this is pretty cool to use stock with Samsung. I have been tinkering to see just how much I could make stock and I am coming up with a lot.
You can change status bar icon and etc to AOSP
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+/themes/theme-statusbar-icons-extras-samsung-t3658050
you can use SUBSTRATUM Theme engine to change status bar icon ans QS tile icons even you are not rooted.
