Good Morning everybody!
I think I have a defective thunderbolt battery, sometimes when I pull my phone off the charger it drops to 95%. Funny thing this is not a everyday thing. Anybody having a similar problem like this? Sorry if this been discuss before. Have a bless day everybody...on my way to the office.
I have the same thing happen. There is something goofy with how the meter reports battery level. If you reboot your phone it drops even more.

Yea I notice that too. I seen my battery drop down 15 percent after rebooting. Is the battery defective? Or the phone is defective?
Bump charge it. Charge it all the way. Unplug, turn it off, then on, and keep charging.

The phone/battery aren't defective. I have the extended battery so I never bump charge it, but he is right. Charge it up until your charging light goes green, unplug it and then turn it off. Once it shuts down, plug it back in and will now be orange. Charge it until it's green again. Sometimes it will take a few minutes, sometimes an hour. I'm also color blind so I can never tell whether that damned light is red/orange/green. >.<

He gonna have to turn it on then plug the charger in. If left off then plugged in the phone will boot into recovery.

charge ur batt. to 100%, then go into cwm and clear batt. stats, when u turn it back on it should b around 80-85% then charge all the way back full again and then u will b at full capacity

is this all the time we have to do, I have the extended battery and it doesnt drop and I read about clearing the batterystats.bin but is this something we always have to do when we charge the phone? when I use the standard stock battery it drops with no problem
I didn't have any issues until I wiped the battery stats and now, my battery is constantly inconsistent. I would not recommend doing it as it has nothing but a pain in my arse since.
Have tried "bumping it" which essentially means to charge it to 100%, restart it, then charge it back again from whatever it dropped to.. Mine initially was around 85ish.. After a few "bumps" it crept up to 90 or 91 and then wouldn't go any higher. I charged it back to 100% and decided to follow the advice from another article which said to let it deplete to 0%.. In doing that, surprisingly it "froze" in a couple of places, I don't recall the 1st % but the 2nd % was definitely at the 28% mark. It literally sat there for a good 2+ hours with screen on max and didn't go down. Eventually it went down to 1% and I charged it back to 100%.
Issues still remain, wondering if I should've let it completely die out and force itself off?
Lesson: DO NOT MESS WITH BATTERY STATS with CW.

Where do I get into CWM, to do this?
Thanks for your help everybody! I'm sorry if this is a dumb question...what is CWM? My device is stock.
CWM = Clockwork Mod.. Goto Market, download ROM manager, then you can flash CWM. Not sure if that'll do you any good if you're not rooted though.
why when I reboot my phone like 15% of the battery life drops I love this damn phone man...i cant put it down while im at work
The battery reading after reboot is wierd.
Yesterday I was at 51% and draining are at a pretty steady rate like normal. After rebooting, it showed 41% but then it say at 41% for AWHILE.. after like an hour, it read 40% and started discharging at the normal rate.

Thanks for the repost, I had skimmed this thread earlier but don't recall it being so detailed. Seems like the moral of the story is that while "bump charging" works, it's not really recommended as it can reduce the overall life of the battery. Wonderful, now I regret ever messing with the battery stats at all, although I can't say for sure I didn't have this issue prior to doing so.
My OEM battery wouldn't hold a charge even after charging it all day... I took it to the VZ store and they replaced it for free...... I also just bought the larger 2750 mAh battery.... works great!
hello
just to say that with ClockworkMod 4.0.1.5 the phone dont charge the battery when is power off.
thanks
EDIT:
tried to charge with phone off, and work. (with some energy on battery)
but i did had the problem, because i drain the battery to ZERO, and with ZERO battery couldn't charge
Mine does. I did it last night. I drained my new battery dry. And charged it last night with power off because I couldnt even turn it on the battery was so dead. Woke up this morning to a fully charged battery.
My phone does it too.
Same here, mines fine
Keep fastboot checked!!!
+4 works fine here.
OP, please change the title of your thread to "doesn't work for ME (or some people)" as it is misleading.

Defeats the point of wanting to turn the phone off. I prefer to turn it off when I tell it to! Having said that, I never turn my phone off so isn't an issue
+5, works for me too.
didnt work for me...
I drained my battery completely, when I plug it in, the led flashing 11 times last 3 flashes are slow then goes dark.
put it 8h on wall charger, and didnt work...
i had to use this --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1198585
This just happened to me. Kept blinking heaps. So unplugged phone, boot it and instantly plugged in charger and worked after.

I just had my phone at 73% and powered it off and even booted into HBOOT to make sure it was off then pulled the battery. Plugged it in and the orange light came on and stayed on for a bit. I then pulled it after about 10 minutes and powered up the phone, and I was up to 84%
Why do so many people insist on charging the phone while its off? I've never understood this.I have had many devices and have NEVER powered them off to charge, never had to replace any batteries either?

I think its because it charges faster when its off. (idk it could be placebo ) I only charge mine when it is off when it dies. So is it safe to say that the issue is fixed ?

Yeah. I think it does charges but then theres no light. and you can't turn it on while it's plugged in ):
I've never let my battery die tbh, Always carry a 10cm micro usb lead with me as i always have access to a usb port
I did last night on purpose because I am testing an after market battery.
I let my battery died completely last night. When i charge it, it just blink like 5 times, and stopped. So i took off the battery and use a different charger to charge it. The orange light turned on for like 5 sec and disappeared. I thought it just need a little charge. I left the charge overnight. I tried to turn on the phone when i woke up, but it didnt work. I took the cable off, then take out battery and pput it back in. And the phone turns on and fully charged. So I guess the phone does charge, but the indicator light is not just working.

Hi,
That would suggest that your battery is flat.
Why don't you plug the charger in for half an hour ,then try booting again.
Yeah like above said your battery is dead, as soon as the light stays solid it means you can start your phone. Depending on how badly its drained itll take like 15 mins while being plugged into AC. This usually happens to me while playing a game and i dont notice the low battery lol
exactly the same thing happened to me just now...
Strange thing thou was that the phone was connected to the charger all night long and I just removed it from the charger
Charging right now... lets wait a bit
-update
Charger seems to have died in action.....
what was your outcome adiallo77 ?
-update 2
Charger started to work fine again ...
I'm confused now
I had the same problems when I first install cwrecovery, after a night in the charger it was working fine again
I just started having this problem with my phone. The battery is not charging at all, my phone won't turn on, but the red light is blinking. I have been reading and trying all day everything I could find in xda, but still no results. I can't remember which ROM I installed last, but it has stock kernel, ICS probably virtuous.
This usually happens when your battery has drained completely.
Here's what you need to do. Put your phone on an hour long charge before trying anything.
Don't put the phone for charge on the PC or in the car, but use the standard wall charger that was provided with the phone. Whatever happens, don't pull the phone off charging.
After an hour of charging is completed, switch on your phone as you normally would, without unplugging the charger. Your phone should be fine.
Let it charge to 100%, calibrate your battery and perform a restart to maintain the right graduation for battery levels.

Have you tried a different battery?
Have you checked if the battery fits tightly?
EDIT: Too many of these recently. We need to find the source!

i don't have an extra battery but the one i have does fit. I'm gonna see if i can find me another battery borrowed.
Does the orange light continue to blink after a few minutes? I had this problem a while ago but the light would blink for about a minute and then stop, then the battery wouldn't charge and my phone wouldn't turn on.
What I ended up doing was putting my battery into my Desire HD and charging it for 15 min (aligning the pins and just holding the battery down since its too big to fit in the HD and letting it charge) and then I put it back into my sensation and it would pick up charge.
I would suggest getting an external charger and letting the charger bring your battery up to 5-10 percent then putting it back into the sensation and try to charge it/see if your phone will turn on.
The same thing has just happend to my gf's sensation XE, she left it on all night charging, now it wont turn on, tried everything. Its all stock since day one. might have to send it back, her last HTC phone broke too (wildfire), Any tricks to try and get it to turn on?
The lights come on at the bottom keys, but no display ?
This is a strange one. When I connect USB to my computer the device shows up, I also get the option for USB tethering on the phone... however it does not indicate that it is charging. The charger works in other phones and I've even tried using a proper charger (i.e. not a usb cable).
Now the thing is, I'm not sure if it's not charging. When I turn the phone on I have 11% battery and get a notification about it and told to plug in a charger, and when I plug it in the message does not come back - although the battery % stays on 11.

They are installed on my PC yes, although I don't see what that has to do with it?
I'm asking the stupid questions first, lol...
Which USB ports are you using, try connecting to a port on the motherboard (proper +5V) if not?
I have the same problem with a nokia lumia 920 charger, the charger works in others phones and some time before works in my phone too

Like I said, I've tried using a direct mains charger too. The USB connection from phone to computer is fine as I can transfer files etc. It just won't charge regardless of what cable I use.
That said though, the battery has been on 11% for a long time. Makes me think that it has actually been charging (or else it would have decreased/died) and it's just the reading that is stuck? I've tried switching to icon mode then % but it's still on 11. Is there a way to recalibrate it? The phone is barely a month old so it's surely not a hardware issue.

When I got mine the battery hung on 31% for ages then dropped to 0% and rebooted. Since then I cycled it through a few times without connecting the charger until it was flat and then charged it to max and left it for a few hours at least. It came good after that and I've had no problems. According to Motorola to recalibrate the battery state it should be left for charge once fully charged for a few hours extra.
I've had mine for a few weeks.
It doesn't seem to change either side of 11% whether I charge it or not. I guess I'll just have to plug it in for a few hours and assume it's fully charged?
It took me ~4 and 1/2 hours to charge it fully using the 500mAh Moto charger from 0%, but I did it the other way around--I used it till it was flat first.

That's very peculiar... It might indicate something wrong at the firmware level. You are running the standard ROM, are you?
I'd advise to jump some factory resets / firmware (re)install hoops.
I'm running Beanstalk ROM but the creator is already getting very cranky with me for suggesting it might be a bug in that
Unless you can reproduce the behaviour with the stock firmware, Beanstalk is the prime suspect.
But it could be a file/driver corruption, hence the suggestion to reinstall.
Same problem with XT1033 on Stock 4.4 ROM
on stock 4.4 ROM same problem i am facing, even after 1-2 hours charging its showing same % of battery.
but after a restart its coming to normal condition & shows charging icon.
I charged my phone last night (still on 10%), brought it out with me and during use it cut out and would not turn on. I kept trying to turn on by either pressing power on or pressing power & vol down. A couple of times I got to the bootloader but that was it. When I got home I plugged it into a charger and it came up with a white screen with an empty battery graphic.
Now my phone will not turn on no matter what I do, even when plugged in.
I tried unlocking the bootloader. It worked fine. However when I tried to charge the battery after some time, the phone won't turn on. It simple shows a blink Red light in the indicator panel below.
Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?
Best,
Irfan

Red light indicates the battery is lower than 15%. Just recharge it for a while then try. Red is for <16%, Green+Yellow is 16-89, >89 is totally green.

do the following :
try charging with another charger / cable
see if your charging jack is loose and you need to see if your phone is charging
take battery out for 5 minutes.
Reinsert and try to turn it on. Don't put it on charging while you are trying to turn on. My phones only turns on if it is not being charged.
Use little saliva on terminals (use tongue) of battery and then insert it back and try to switch it on. Your tongue would give an idea if battery is faulty or not.
while trying to turn on your phone, make sure you are not charging your phone . Take out all cables /charger etc.
use a different battery
Try to boot into fastboot mode / flash mode and try flashing ftf.
see if that helps.
Also, if nothing works do give reply back with an updated and detailed description about what you did and why isn't it turning on.
