So randomly my brother's Galaxy S3 stopped recognizing receiving power from the battery. He thought maybe the battery was dead but we've tested with my battery (fully charge) and nothing happens. When plugged in with a full charged battery it shows the battery level indicator screen with an empty battery. Any ideas? Have flashed phone back to full stock just in case that was causing issues.
EDIT: Realized the battery is recognized but phone is not getting any power from it. With battery in I can boot into download mode. Without battery in I cannot boot into download mode.
Also re-unlocked bootloader, flashed an old version of CWM and cleared battery stats. No dice.

Did you take the OTA to 4.3 before you downgraded? If so you have a soft brick and can repair it in download mode with ODIN and the stock 4.3 rom file

It's not bricked. If I give it enough power through the charger port I can boot into android just fine.
Maybe the battery just crapped out? (Maybe need New battery)

There are 2 problems
First it shows charging even when I disconnect the charger/USB cable.
Second it is booting only when I am charging, else there is no reaction even if I press the power button forever long.
Other things worth mentioning
It is also not going into recovery mode. It is going into only RAM dump mode.
It is booting only if I press the power button when the battery shows up on the screen while charging when it is off.
Most of the problems I noticed when I removed superuser permissions from all apps.(Actually there were only 2 apps proxydroid and superuser itself in the list)
The phone was rooted android 2.3.7.
I then hard reset it. It is now 2.3.6.
when phone is on it shows charging forever once I start the charging.
Now I was able go into recovery mode when charging.
So I loaded cyanogenmod 7.2 official stable version. But still the battery problem is there

Then I guess it is a hardware problem.. Do show it in Samsung Service center..
However you can once try to use some custom ROM and see if the problem persists.. Or re flash your firmware..

I have the same problem
I flashed a Jellybean touchwiz rom for Verizon GS3, and went to reboot and now nothing, zero zip nada. No charging led light, no way to get into recovery and no response.
Anything I can do?
what happens when you do vol up + home+power button?
Absolutely nothing. I tried to get back into the recovery to see if I could restore my backup and nope.
did you try leave it pluged in for 30mins ?
does it vibrate once when you try to turn it on?
No vibrating and no sign of life at all. Even when plugged into my computer, I was going to try the unbrick guide but it listed that I should be able to get into the recovery still.

leave it plugged in for a while to make sure its not drained battery
do you have a usb jig?
I don't have a USB jig but this is possibly good news. I removed the battery and SD card and plugged it into my computer and it tried to install drivers (failed but tried) and the led light comes on red.
if your gettin led now you more then likely need to let it charge
It doesn't give me the led with the battery in
Plug it into a wall charger for at least 30 or even better if you can get a battery from someone.

I think its gone still nothing.
red led means qualcomm download mode. sounds dead to me
Yeah, haha. I saw it and mentally prepared myself for it. Literally just got the phone today so Verizon had no qualms with just sending me a new phone. Guess I'm reactivating my Rezound in the meantime. Thanks for the help guys.
you know
I am surprised. That also happened to me the first time i flashed that very same rom (touchwiz) with twrp . I have done this so many times , i literarily can flash a rom on the way to work .
I was in shock , i still dont know how the heck can i flash a rom and brick .
I plugged mine into windows and i got the device manager driver error from hell . and my phone never came back up again
I stayed away form twrp and touchwiz and i still cant possibly comprehend how a simple rom flash can brick my phone .
Which ROM did you flash?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
you could probably send it to get Jtag'ed for around $60 if your warranty is invalid (ie used device)
You just hard bricked it. I did the same thing. Check here - post 5 shows the same symptoms :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1770341
And here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1791721
I was pushing a copy of root66 that I hadn't md5'd. Took a JTAG to bring me back (twice) .
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
So, in the future, md5 checksum absolutely everything since I'm assuming now that that is why this happened? (Since I made doubly sure I was flashing a rom for my phone).
If you still have the file you downloaded, you can check it. That would answer that question. If it checks out fine, then we have to look elsewhere for the problem.
BTW, MobileTechVideos.com can bring you back - based on my experience with them, I highly recommend.

What ROM did you flash?
Did you use ODIN or a recovery?
If recovery, which one - CWM or TWRP?
Was there any unusual condition you can think of ... low battery, USB connected to computer or to charger, etc?
battery percentage not accurate on mytouch 4g slide cm9.1 ....i charged my phone for 6 hours it gives 36%,i unplug it and reboot it and it gives 94%,after another reboot it gives 72% just wondering why it keeps fluctuating and the batt stats as been wipe but still the same please kindly help
Try discharging it completely, then charge up to 100% without any breaks. Then, again empty the battery and charge to max. Then, for the third time, once you're done discharging and charging up to 100%, don't disconnect the charger, manually delete batterystats.bin in data/system, and then disconnect the charger.
...The above solution might work. Might. Yeah.
thanks please is there any other option?
Use Battery Monitor Widget. Put the widget on your home screen, monitor your battery at all times, gather enough data, and then calibrate it.
If that still does not solve the problem then... wipe cache, dalvik, flash a new kernel.
If that's no good either, then switch to another ROM.
If you still cannot see light at the end of the tunnel, then... buy a new battery.
If, even then, life still betrays you... then... thoroughly mix 2.34 grams of sugar and 5.09 grams of powdered gold in 155.71 grams of warm distilled water. Drink the mixture and hopefully, your life will change for the better.
I've got your back. :fingers-crossed:
thanks for getting back at me....my battery works great on the stock rom when i tried switching back but its just malfunction on cm9 and cm10 as well...i.e battery percentage not accurate...well,i will give it a try and please how do i flash a new kernel
Flash WildKernel Reloaded on either CM9 or CM10.
1. Download the zip file and copy it to your phone's SD card.
2. Boot your phone in Recovery. Wipe cache and dalvik cache.
3. Flash/Install the zip file.
4. Reboot your phone.
5. Empty the battery, charge to 100%, wipe batterystats, unplug charger.
That should do the trick. But if it still fails, try flashing a different ROM. AOKP, for instance.

Batterystats.bin is automatically wiped when the battery charge. So doing all that crazy calibration is honestly a waste of time.

I had to buy extra batteries if I wanted to stay on the bleeding edge of development.
For some reason CM9 was the same way and it took ages to fix. Its just something your going to have to compensate for if you plan on staying with the device.

Download kernel of choice...make sure your s-off then wipe cache and dalvik then flash in recovery or...if your s-on download kernel of choice. Flash it in recovery (for modules to be flashed) then boot into boot loader and run put the boot.img in your SDK/fastboot dir and run fastboot flash boot boot.img and reboot.

Since I rooted my GS3, my battery gets to 20% and without fail every time, my phone shuts off and won't shut back on? Any advice? I used odin to root and super su recovery. Thanks in advance!
Have you calibrated your battery? After flashing you may be required to calibrate your battery

Please help! After successful downgrade from 4.4.2 to 4.1.2, my tab 3 refuses to charge while turned off. Stuck at the stage of starting to charge where you have the battery symbol and a circle inside it. Even when cable is removed it won't go unless restarted by long pressing the power button.
It charges well when powered on but not otherwise! Every other thing is working normal.
Could it be that the downgrade has tampered with the charging software.
What can I do please?

How did you downgrage your tab? Using Odin or a Nandroid?
Sent from my XT1052 using XDA Free mobile app
Same here after downgrade back to 412 uk jb I flashed back using odin3
Same probelm even that its stuck its still charging tho
4.4..2 has a locked bootloader, I do not think you can revert now to 4.1.2 without issues because you will have a mis match . Your only option may be to reload 4.4.2
Hmm. I'm not ready to go back to kk. I can't access internet since I only use BlueVPN to get internet which VPN is broken in kk
well. you are pretty much stuck then. bootloader controls charging and so, mismatched bootloader and kernel are not a good thing
